I feel like there aren't alot of good quality sushi restaurants near this part of Connecticut so when I found out about Tomo 202, I was excited to give it a try. My mom and I stopped by for late lunch on a Sunday and the staff were attentive and helped us right away. We ordered sushi and sashimi for 2 and wow, I was blown away by the quality of the fish and how the sushi/rolls were prepared. The rice was cooked perfectly and they spread the rice thin for the rolls and the fish was fresh and delicious. The presentation of the meal was beautiful too. We have a select few that we will eat at, but we decided to try a new place since we were in Brookfield for the day. We are beyond thrilled that we did. Tomo 202 is absolutely fabulous! It is one of the cleanest restaurants we have ever been in, with a very helpful and friendly staff. There are so many menu options to choose from. The speciality rolls are incredible, the miso soup is light and delicious, and the gyoza is some of the freshest that we've ever tasted. ORIGIN: Tomo 202 opened during the summer of 2024. The restaurant is one of several Asian-influenced restaurants associated with one of Tomo 202's owners, Naugatuck resident Jin Lin (Tomo 68 (Naugatuck, 2009) and Ramen N Bau (Oxford, 2021)). The restaurant's name refers to the road on which the restaurant is located (Route 202) and the Japanese word for friends (Tomodachi). LOCATION: Tomo 202 is located in the recently constructed commercial and residential building in Brookfield's Four Corners. CONCEPT: Tomo 202 is a one stop shop for Asian-influenced dishes, facilitating the pleasing of many guests by serving a wide range of dishes, including ramen, hibachi, and sashimi. AMBIANCE: The new restaurant is thoughtfully decorated, with blond wood upholstered chairs complementing a row of banquettes. An unusual amount of sunlight streams through floor to ceiling windows that line two walls. Interesting adornments, such as twig pendant lights, add charm to the space. FOOD: A big draw to the restaurant are the soup dumplings ($9 for six). These were good, but not at the level I have experienced in New York ( such as Joe's Shanghai). The attraction for me is that the dumplings' were far more tender compared to dumplings at other Asian restaurants in the area. During my initial visit I also tried the Asian fusion roll -- Salmon Paradise roll ($16). This roll is a mix of seared and raw salmon, surrounded by different herbs and spices. This was similar to a roll I used to order and enjoy at another Brookfield restaurant-- but this one is far more substantial in size and quality at the same price. On my second visit I asked one of the servers (Rachel) for recommendations, and she suggested the Brookfield and Shrimp Tempura special rolls. They were beautifully plated and as expected had some unique texture and flavor combinations. I also tried a cocktail -- the Lychee Martini -- and found it to be fruitier and sweeter than what I experienced in another restaurant. SERVICE: Service was attentive and swift. TIP: The restaurant is getting a lot of promotion from some of Connecticut's Instagram foodie accounts and was recently proclaimed to be the state's hottest new restaurant on Yelp Connecticut's Instagram. Jeff M. noted here that he expected to be more "wowed" after traveling quite a distance. First time trying soup dumplings was a success. Tomo is located at the four corners in Brookfield. There is street parking on both sides, depending which direction you are coming from. There may be a lot in the back but not sure if it's just for residential parking. It is a clean new building with tables, booths, and a sushi bar you can sit at. It's a welcoming environment where you are greeted with smiles when you enter. All of the staff I dealt with were friendly and helpful. Our waiter instructed me on the technique of how to eat the soup dumplings. He specifically said don't try to eat in one bite, you will burn your mouth. The food is great. We got a few different things. The soup dumplings had lots of flavor. We got Pork and Blue Crab & Pork. Both were great. We also got regular Pork and Chive Dumplings which were very juicy. My absolute favorite was the Baconator Roll. I've never had bacon on a sushi roll so I was curious to try. It consisted of shrimp tempura, cream cheese, avocado, spicy kani, yum yum sauce, and of course bacon. It was amazing and I will definitely order it when I go back. Definitely stop in here. We were delighted to hear that Tomo 202 is owned by the same person as Ramen and Bao. My husband and I love the ramen there but NOT the drive to Oxford. That, combined with all of the other 5-star yelp reviews, it's to say we went in with high expectations. We came at about 7pm on a Saturday night and were seated immediately. Food came out quick and tasted great, all for a reasonable price at that. We ordered: -Kani salad (not enough mayo but that's my personal preference) -Takoyaki (AMAZING, drenched in sauce just how I like, GENEROUS filling) -Scallion pancakes (meh, some slices tasted bitter to me but my husband said he didn't taste it) -Soup dumplings -Honey Monster Roll -Tonkatsu Ramen Overall, our bill came out to $70 excluding tip. I read the reviews of this place and reserved a table with high expectations. We were disappointed Tomo 202 did not have hibachi prepared in front of us, but we decided to stay. Two of us ordered steak and scallops and one ordered chicken. Regretably we felt the food fell short. The meat quality was low, the scallops were chewy, and much of the flavor was overly salty. The best part about this place was their staff. Everyone was welcoming and friendly, particulary our server. The preparers at the sushi bar were also very friendly. We wanted this place to be a five-star. It was clean and the staffers were enthusiastic, but unfortunately, the food did not wow us. I finally got the chance to dine at Tomo 202 in Brookfield CT. . The atmosphere large and noisy but the food was substandard . I ordered the calamari rings rings and realized they were NOT made fresh even though the waitress lied and said they were made in house ; absolute lie . I wanted to try Asian Thai chili sauce which was botched and watered down with some soy oil - , as they tried to stretch it out to save money by adding some cheap soy oil . The kani salad was all cucumber salad with very little to no crab leg meat . Another fake salad called kani salad when it should be called cucumber salad with watered down mayo . It was over priced cucumber salad. I ordered one of the more expensive sushi rolls and one middle of the road rolls . What I got was 6 pieces of one roll and 7 pieces of the other . For 43.00 between 2 rolls for myself I was trying to eat 13 pieces . I could not get passed 9 pieces . I am not sure where they source their food but appears to be food cost prohibited to charge a lot of money for substandard poor quality garbage . Now , you can fool everyone some of the time but you can't fool a professional chef all the time . Today was Not Their day . I complained to the waitress and she took it in stride . She only took off 6.00 charging half price for the calamari . Embarrassing to even call it calamari . The bill was 135.00 for 6 rolls , 4 appetizer ( 2 kanai salads , 1 vegetable guyoza dumplings and calamari) , the only thing that was half way decent was the guyoza edemmami dumplings and the waitress attitude . everything else was of- poor quality at best . DO NOT EAT THERE IF YOU HAVE ANY HEALTH CONCERNS. Not to mention the 2 sushi chef's that were outside smoking away on cigarettes . Not sure if they practiced handwashing safety standards . If you're familiar with their other restaurant, Ramen & Bao in Oxford, the menu is a perfect hybrid between the Tomo and R&B concepts. I recently read a review of Tomo 202 I made it sound like an innovative high-quality sushi place, so with great expectations I drove up to Brookfield to check it out. Immediately upon walking in I knew that I was in trouble. It had the vibe of a thousand other sushi joints, but in a newer space. They offered a table, but we made our way over to the sushi bar so that we can have a closer look at the fish on offer. What a disappointment. The two little bar top fish refrigerators had when I can only describe a scraps of fish waiting to be sliced into rolls. The menu reads like every other pedestrian sushi place I've experienced in the past. Nothing new or innovative here. And definitely not an Omakase joint. Not that they claim to be, but any fish on this menu that's out of the ordinary I would be hesitant to even trust. I suppose the giant wooden sushi boats stacked on the bar should've been a strong indication of Just how commonplace this sushi restaurant is. It's not like Brookfield is without good sushi. Literally less than 100 yards away is a tiny little sushi place that does a lovely Omakase at a bar that only seats four people. Sure there's plenty of room in this new place for a kids birthday party or an after-work sake binge (and it's definitely the room for it so I'm sure those will be mainstays of its business) but for the discerning sushi fan, I can only say you probably want to go somewhere else. read more

My parents frequent this restaurant and have been constantly telling me how great it is. I currently live in California and I came to town to visit so they took me there. Can't say enough great things! The food was excellent and the customer service even better. All of the servers are so personable and kind.
