To both of them equally I say, there are very few places I'd be willing to stand in line for an hour for, and few of them involve meat on bread. Luckily, being the off-season, I didn't have *any* wait to order a sandwich. Unluckily, being the off season, that's also because it kept raining off and on, and this is a strictly take-out affair. So I ended up eating the sandwich under a nearby awning. In nicer weather conditions, though, there are plenty of nearby benches to sit on right there. Would i wait in a long line? I would not. But it was a legitimately great sandwich, great fluffy bread, great cheese if you splurge on cheese (as of a couple months ago, they were 3.5 euro without cheese, 5.5 with cheese), and solid, juicy, meaty meat, even if I do *personally* prefer the thin-sliced version like the other place I went, did. For how filling they are, that'd make them pretty darn affordable, if you don't add cheese, which I would probably keep doing anyway if I lived here, I'd just go when it was the off-season and not busy, *and* not raining*. At least as of when I was there, being a takeout place, they didn't have much in the way of drinks, but there was an unrelated business in the next alcove over selling cheap large glasses of beer and large blended fruity pineapple drinks. p.s. Make sure to absolutely douse your sandwich in mustard and chili oil, if you like spicy food like I do. They're self-serve, and great.

I'm a fan of a higher custard to crust ratio and this definitely hit the spot. Remember to add a bit of cinnamon on top to bring out the custard flavor more. There are three queues: one for sit-down service, one for the historical counter (whatever that may be, we didn't stick around long enough to check that out), and one for takeaway which is the fastest and basically had no line, where you can take one or four and enjoy them in one of the nearby parks. For those who haven't had one, the bifana is a staple of tender, simmered meat (usually visible somewhere in the restaurant) and placed between a fresh piece of bread. Traditionally just meat and sauce from the vat of simmering meat juices. This was close to the Rossio section of Lisbon, making it very convenient to various attractions. They also had other meat pies, codfish cakes and French fries. Staff were very friendly (and spoke English for those visiting) with a chill and casual vibe. Perfect for a quick lunch close to the square to sit and enjoy a lunch or light dinner.

When you check in, they give you a slip of paper which has a QR code on it for you to access the menu later, and we were promptly seated upstairs. The menu is conveniently available in several languages (you select your language at the bottom of the main menu page). We were at a long table for 6, with us sitting on the inside and another couple sitting at the end, and the table settings in between us were cleared, so it didn't feel like we were on top of one another. I appreciated that the server gave recommendations that would be good for two people. We went with most of his recommendations (shrimps on garlic sauce (it's labeled as spicy, but it's really not), clams on garlic, tiger prawns grilled on bed of salt) and added some of our own (razor clams and lobster roll). All the seafood tasted fresh, bursting with flavor from the buttery garlic sauce, which we sopped up with garlic bread. The bread is brought to the table when you first get seated. It's not free, which I was aware of, but I knew it would go well with the dishes we ordered. The razor clams were juicy and sweet. The lobster roll was good, but not something I would order again when there's so many other fantastic seafood choices. I usually don't drink beer, but felt that it was appropriate since we were at a cervejaria, so I ordered a bottle of Sagres Bohemia. It went perfectly with the seafood. My SO, who doesn't drink alcohol, got peach iced tea. I wanted to get the prego sandwich for dessert, but my SO was pretty much full at that point, so I ordered a tarte whisky and a cappuccino for myself. The whisky ice cream layer in the tarte was nice and refreshing. I was shocked when we got the bill and it came out to less than 50€. This meal would have cost so much more in the US. You pay via tablet at the end and I left a generous tip in appreciation of the wonderful meal and service. They get you in and out of there quick, but it never felt like we were being rushed out.
