We enjoyed our breakfast here on a rainy Thursday. The cappuccinos we had were delicious and a perfect size. I got a large chocolate pastry and a macaroon. The vanilla macaroon was the perfect texture for a macroon and not too sweet. The chocolate pastry was fantastic and I'd order it again. Seating was plentiful outside, and the service was great. I'd recommend giving Paul a try!

We came for a quick breakfast of sandwiches and a hot drink. The food and drinks were okay, but unfortunately our experience was tainted by some super aggressive pan handlers. One wanted to take the bread out of my hand as I was eating it. Asking why I wouldn't give it to him and arguing when I said no. My partner had to firmly tell him to go away immediately. Another literally growled at a mother and young kid when they were walking past. It was the most uncomfortable meal we had as we were constantly on the lookout. The waiters can not be expected to tell them off as it can be understandably dangerous. Lesson learnt: do not sit outside unless you want to be harassed for the whole time. Sit inside.

Great cappuccinos and confections! Also great for people watching. This was at the Lisboa location.

By far my favorite spot to grab lunch! Gotta get one of the sandwiches. The bread is freshly baked and has just the right texture. I normally cannot finish a whole sub but easily finished this sandwich without trouble. It was that delicious.

I came here for breakfast two mornings in a row for some freshly squeezed orange juice and a cappuccino. I also tried some of their freshly baked pastries including a croissant, chocolate croissant, and apricot pastry. The croissants were very good and flaky. The apricot pastry was good but the apricots were quite sour. Overall, a pretty cheap and conveniently located breakfast place in Lisbon. I would definitely recommend stopping by for a morning coffee.

Got an almond croissant. The filling was yummy, but the crust wasn't flakey and the croissant wasn't airy (see image for how flat it is). This was in the early morning, so I was expecting fresher pastries :/

My beautiful, amazing wife and I were on our honeymoon in Lisboa, Portugal. In the Rossio - Baixa - Chiado we discovered them. At least twice, to three times a day we passed by for breakfast, a nosh, or something to take away back to our hotel. The food is top notch! We were really hard pressed, as we missed it when we were heading home. We discovered a Paul's in the Checz Republic, however, it's not the Lisboa' Paul's... Figured they cater to each region they're in... and you can't get any better than this! When we return to Lisboa, we'll be stopping by Paul's once again!

Ok, it was after 10:00 pm and after a long day and over 6 miles of walking, we were starving!!!! We saw this Paul and thought it will be a good idea, well, it was. Delicious sandwich with mushrooms ( sooooo many and tasty) cheeses, and the best service. This location of Paul has a seating area inside and outside. Please check out my pictures and see those amazing loaves of bread and desserts, I wished I had a bigger tummy to eat them all!

This is a lovely place to get coffee, pastries, and sandwiches in the main shopping district of Lisbon. If you're just looking for a place to order a coffee and something small to eat, then this is a great option! They have a huge selection of fresh baked pastries and ready made sandwiches which they heat up fresh for you. There are only a few tables inside, but they have many outside, in front of the shop. One thing to note though, is that they do NOT wait the tables outside. You must go inside to order and then you can go outside to sit and eat. I mention this because I sat outside and initially waited for someone to come take my order, but no one did. I eventually caught on, but after I had gotten my food and was sitting down, I noticed the same confusion happening with other customers. Overall though, a great place with tasty food!

Your typical bakery with typical pastries. Barely any seats inside but you can find tables outside in the streets. This place is known for its name and that's why it's so busy but there are so many better places that serve the same stuff close by.

You're one of the places I go to every time I get a chance. I'm never disappointed by any of the products you put out. You take classic recipes and make them steller. Tried the croque monsieur mushroom, pistachio macaroon and pomme crisp. Also tried some of the atlantique and Mediterranean sandwich. Everything was great although pomme crisp was a little burnt around the edges but I'll put that aside as a one off. Can taste quality ingredients and effort put into what they make. Love ya Paul, to the moon and back.

I love this place! It has rescued me so many times being jet lagged or early morning starvations. I believe Paul originally French store, however I am not sure. I do always visit Paul when I am in France, Paris because sandwiches are great and pastries too. I usually grab a sandwich to go and eat it in the park while sketching Parisian architecture, therefore I was super happy when I saw Paul near Comércio Square. We have been walking around for a bit, which means we skipped dinner and grabbed beer instead. When I saw Paul, I knew I was rescued. I grabbed a sandwich and dessert and hangout outside on a warm night with my boyfriend. In Lisbon, Paul carries traditional Portuguese dessert, so my boyfriend was super excited to grab couple of those bad boys! Thats what i love about Europe and traveling. Evening we did was spontaneous and Paul was there late at night experiencing it with us!

This means I can now say who made them best, and more importantly, why. The interesting thing is, I didn't think the pastel de nata here were particularly great, on any dimension - fairly flimsy, doughy crust, with a pudding-like, drippy filling that was too sweet and not quite eggy enough. Don't get me wrong, I'd still eat them any time someone offered, they were still tasty, you just have a ton of options nearby, some of them notably better than the ones here. I also tried one of their fancy-looking cookies, which definitely looked fancier than it tasted. Was just a cookie. Dessert-wise I was unimpressed. They were also always fairly busy, which made ordering feel a bit rushed. So why am I still giving this bakery 5 stars, and why did I come back here a couple more times, including to get food to-go the morning we left, to get food to take on the plane with us? For exactly one reason, and it's a weird one: oddly enough, the samosas here are the best samosas I've ever had, and by a wide margin. You'd think the best samosas ever would come from an Indian restaurant or bakery, but nope, they're here. The other small savory food items we tried were also pretty good, but the samosas are the juiciest, meatiest, most perfectly bursting with spices samosas I've had. Who knew? They also had pretty solid espresso and pretty solid free-squeezed orange juice, but those aren't hard to find in Portugal (I miss seeing inexpensive fresh squeezed OJ all over the city... especially *truly* fresh squeezed, to order, from whole oranges. Portuguese OJ definitely was the best. Though obviously not *better* than other places you can get the same thing around - probably indeed the same oranges. Definitely better than anywhere you can get fresh OJ for a few bucks in the US, though, if you can find such a place. :p)

The service was super fast and friendly. The pastel de nata came out perfectly, with that delicate flaky crust and warm custard that just hits differently when you know it was made moments ago. The espresso was equally impressive, rich and smooth, and the two together make for a simple but near perfect combination. The crust was super flaky and the tart was nice and warm out of the oven, but I didn't like the flavor of the custard. I did forget to add cinnamon to the top, but I don't think it would have helped me personally. The woman who stood next to me at the counter had a nearly orgasmic experience next to me, so it's obvious that my taste buds are apparently off. I loved the patience of the server, who got confused when I told her I wanted to eat in but wanted to take water to go. Note to self...Portuguese folks want to have their "to go" as "takeaway." What I also didn't know was that there was no place to sit!! I scooted down the counter just like all the other folks to watch the bakers prep the next gozillion pastries for the day. That was interesting. Then, I didn't know how to bus my dishes. I just left them on the counter like all the other folks and went away. I wouldn't skip going because of my personal taste buds, though. Enjoy it for yourself and let me know if you have a different opinion than I did!

The custard strikes a great balance -- rich and eggy but not overly sweet. The pastry shell is where these really shine: thin layers of laminated dough baked until they're deeply golden and crisp. The result is that perfect textural contrast: crackly pastry on the outside and silky custard inside. Like most Portuguese pastry shops, the setup is straightforward. You order at the counter, the service is quick, and the focus is on getting the tarts to you while they're still warm from the oven. Cinnamon and powdered sugar are available to sprinkle on top, which adds a nice extra layer of flavour. Lisbon has many places competing for the title of best pastel de nata, but Fábrica da Nata holds its own.
