Lechon Kawali

I took my companion out to FOB Kitchen to celebrate our anniversary. We both enjoyed our meal and would recommend it if you like Filipino cuisine! We arrived on a weekend afternoon. When we arrived, the inside was closed for a private event. We sat outside, which was perfect since we brought the pup. The vibes outside were super relaxed, with loud, upbeat music playing, and it was nice and colorful. Even with a private event, there was a good flow of diners coming in to pick up takeout or dine outside. I can see this place getting busy! Service was a bit limited because of the event, but the friendly staff kept smiling. My companion and I shared a few dishes. We got the Tortang Talong, Pork Adobo, and Lechon Kawali. Everything was delicious, and the plating was nice! I liked the tortang talong because I'd never had something like that before. It was a hearty omelet-like dish that was still light, savory, and filling. The adobo was good--savory, tangy, and rich. The adobo was also savory and crispy. The garlic rice paired well with everything. We also got a Calamansi Juice which was refreshing. I'd be open to trying other items, but for the price, I expected a bit more in taste and quality. FOB Kitchen is a well-loved spot in Temescal. Find them off Telegraph Ave., with a busy shared parking lot and street parking nearby. The food is good whether you like Filipino cuisine or want to try it. I'd be open to coming back!

our airbnb was just across this place. we went right when they opened, so we got seated right away. decor is pretty and welcoming. it's pretty cozy with maybe about 8-10 tables. the food was not as authentic as i expected. i've definitely tried better for a cheaper price. the presentation is perfect, but the flavor isn't there. the food wasn't terrible but it wasn't impressive either.

FOB kitchen was one of my first introductions to Filipino food, and also one of my favorite places to take friends and family who have never tried Filipino food before. I've been a few times and keep coming back to my favorite dish the Daing na Bangus . It is a marinated milkfish with plenty of fresh veggies on top on a vinegar, garlic, and soy sauce to complement it. Other dishes I've tried have been the lumpia, lechon kawali, and the tocino. I've been for both brunch and dinner and all of the dishes have come out quickly, and have been very flavorful each time.

FOB Kitchen is one of our favorite restaurants in Oakland! We love their modern take on Filipino classics while still keeping the flavors that make the cuisine so comforting. Their version of Adobo was so good that it inspired us to start adding coconut milk to our own recipe at home and we've never looked back. The restaurant itself is warm and inviting, with beautiful plants throughout that give it such a cozy, homey feel. The staff has always been welcoming, making every visit enjoyable. My personal favorites are the Calamansi drinks and the Palabok, both are absolutely delicious. If you're looking for creative Filipino food that still honors its roots, FOB Kitchen is definitely worth checking out.

Suman (aka sticky rice cake) with mango

Almost everything is perfect. Food is good, very "cheffy". You can see the technique put into every dish. Atmosphere is delightful with a warm, cozy dining room/bar. Lush greenery abounds. Servers are nice, checking tables frequently. What fell short for me was the taste. Restaurant quality food but flavors are so divorced from the og that diners looking to satiate their Filipino food cravings will leave unsatisfied. Filipino food has very strong pungent flavors whether salty, sweet, sour, bitter, and definitely umami. It should punch diners in the mouth, no ands, ifs, or buts. Adobo sa gata (aka adobo in coconut milk) is a regional specialty. The sharpness of the vinegar mellows out with the addition of the coconut milk. But there should still be a clear and distinct flavor profile. The eggplant omelet was almost there. Liked that it wasn't greasy but again was searching for some punch of flavor. Maybe I needed to ask it they had a garlic, chili and vinegar dipping sauce. Or maybe atchara (aka pickled veg). Didn't care for the sticky rice dessert (aka suman). Didn't like the pureed texture. The green mango garnish was better when I dipped the slices in salt. FOB Kitchen's food is refined. Maybe too subtle and restrained. I get it. The chef has to appeal to the western palate, a wider audience than just Filipinos, to survive in an industry with razor thin margins. I look for good food and flavor, not necessarily for authenticity. So yes, I would still recommend this restaurant, for good eats but not for Filipino food.

Parking is limited, but worth it for the food! It was a taste of home coming to this restaurant. The crispy pork belly appetizer was yummy, the eggplant giniling (chopped meat) was a great portion and I finished my place. Service was quick and friendly and they always checked on you. My water cup was always full and I appreciated it. The decor is very nostalgic and so much to see around the restaurant.

Ugh, love this spot. My partner's mom and grandma had never tried Filipino food before and I told them I knew just the spot. They were impressed. Everything here is delicious, and I haven't had a miss yet. From the lumpia to the kamote, pork adobo and halo halo...everything is delicious. The service is attentive and friendly, and our host took her time to explain all the different ingredients and flavors to our newbies. Her recommendations were on point. Grandma and Mom loved their first experience eating Filipino - grandma REALLY loved the desserts lol (check her out eyeballing that Halo Halo). Highly recommend and would absolutely come back again and again. Protip - that hot sauce is amazing on just about everything, but incredible on the Side Tortang Talong (eggplant omelette). I don't even like eggplant, but I devoured that thing. The inside of the restaurant is super cute as well - a perfect date night spot!

Delicious, Filipino food with a Western twist. You can fill up on classic Filipino breakfast/brunch food here while enjoying new creations like the French toast with ube butter. (!!!) Servers are nice and treat you like friends right away. I'd say it's a little rough around the edges, but that's part of the charm. Nice ambiance and modern musicZ

Pretty interior with lots of sunlight and plants cute. Great service plenty of parking. Lumpia was perfectly crispy and not too thick. House made sauces were delicious as well. Thrice cooked pork belly had a nice crunch, but got stuck to teeth a bit. Milk fish was a bit dry But garlic rice was so aromatic. We got a Filipino dessert with Ube ice cream and coconut shaved ice with jelly, tasted a bit artificial, but not too sweet and refreshing

No complaints. Husband and I came for dinner on a Saturday evening. Relaxed ambiance, good music selection, great service. We had a reservation so we were promptly seated. We ordered: - Veggie Lumpia - Pork Adobo - Daing na Bangus - Side of Garlic Rice - Turon w/ Ube ice cream - Pandan Iced Coffee We loved everything! We also ended up purchasing a bottle of their house made hot sauce because it was THAT good. Will definitely be back.

Such a good experience. Came for dinner and was able to park close and there is a parking lot right out front. The staff is great. We ordered two of The Town cocktails which were so good we had questions for the bartender, who came to the table and was super knowledgeable. We started with the Lumpia which was hot and crispy with a really nice sweet chili sauce. Also ordered the Tortang Talong which was good with the banana ketchup. The pork adobo was fantastic and hot sauce on the side went with everything. Now I am bummed that it took me so long to get here!

Wow so good! Anna May was our server for the night and she was so sweet. 10/10 on service. We came on a Thursday night and it was just us and two other tables so it was great timing. This is the first time I've had Filipino food and didn't feel terrible afterwards. Usually I'm used to the food being very heavy, oily, and lots of sodium or msg. This was the complete opposite. The lumpia and lechon were fried very well, not oily at all. Anna May told us they change their oil daily, that is great! The pork in the adobo and the soup were sooooo tender. Like melt in your mouth tender. Also the yam with the sour cream, chefs kiss I will try to copy that at home. I loved every dish!

Bartenders were very nice and got the drinks out quickly (came in at 6:30 on a Thursday), but it didn't look rushed. SUPER cozy vibes, perfect for either a catchup with friends, or even a date. There are some negative reviews here about rude, more accurately, unresponsive bartenders, and I don't think they get what this place is all about. If you want a chatty, friendly bartender, go to an Irish pub. This place is all about creating unique concoctions in volume. Having said that, I'll tell you a story. In March 2019, I was with a chatty bartender here, since it was a quiet night. I was looking at the vast array of bottles, and noticed something that said "Buffalo Trace" but looked different from their usual bottle. I asked her what it was, and she didn't know. It had about three fingers left at the bottom, so she looked at me mischievously and said, "wanna finish it with me?" So we did. Turns out, that 375 ml bottle was worth about $300. It was one of their experimental batches, made with oats in 2002. I found a bottle online in England and got it shipped here. Best whiskey I've ever had.
