Called this shop to get my tire replaced using my new tire and tube , he quoted me $30 on the phone... I dropped it off and he told me he only uses ceramic beads for balancing... I said fine because that's what I've always used. Thought balancing was included and he didn't quote me any more cost - picked up my rim and tire and was charged a $50 bill ...$17 for a couple of tablespoons of beads ? needless to say I feel that's really screwed up ! I should of been told of the price difference... Hell I had beads at home ... I'm still walking funny from my experience there ... very sad ... seemed like a nice guy . I understand a guy has overhead but you don't need to screw the customer to get there. BEWARE ! read more

I bought a used honda shadow and I had been having some problems a few thousand miles down the road. It was quickly running out of oil and It was so difficult dealing with motorcycle shops in austin, they were always full with weeks long repair times and they were always short with me and stressed sounding over the phone, I just tried to change the oil myself. Then I heard a loud boom starting it up and i knew i couldn't drive it. I thought for sure i had just totaled my new bike, which is my daily vehicle, and my stomach dropped. I knew i had to find a shop and was prepared to be bounced around from place to place, no one seemed ever prepared to work on my bike, "oh we don't work on hondas". And i was, but only once. The first place referred me to the Flying Piston and as soon as i spoke to Jim I was immediately put at ease, finally a calm, helpful voice who was willing to take a look at it and sounded confident, knowledgeable and eager to help. This is my first bike, I don't know much about bikes, and I've been discouraged owning one at how difficult it is to find a shop willing to even just change a tire. I felt like Jim and his team treated my bike like it was their own. They not only identified and fixed the problem, they also did a complete diagnostic and got my bike to run better than it had out of the dealership. I was worried, at first, about taking Jim up on some of his recommendations due to cost, but he did a great job gaining my trust and explaining to me how each safety measure would save me huge problems and money down the road. and the results speak for themselves. Instead of worrying each time I take my bike out on the road that it won't make the drive, I'm now having fun and gaining confidence, taking it further and for longer rides. And when he was first diagnosing the problem, he was constantly calling me to give me updates, working with me in terms of what i could afford, taking pictures to include me on the diagnostics, and he even called in a honda specialist friend of his for a second opinion. For someone who doesn't know motorcycles, it's very comforting to know I have found a shop who i trust will work on my bike as though it were their own. I paid these jokers over $4000 to fix my Harley Davidson FXR... After they had my bike for over six months off and on, I finally pick the bike up and it still leaked oil. I haven't received a call back after I called them to express my concerns. I do not recommend using them for any motorcycle repairs... Oil change, tires, any repairs... Do not use these guys! If I ckd give it no stars I would. Took my scooter there and 2 weeksater they hadn't even looked at it to see what the issue was. I eas told it would cost about a $1000 to fix because yamaha parts are extensive and he didnt even know anything except I had laid the bike down and it was leaking oil. When I called to check the status he said the haven't looked at it. At that point I decided to go get it. When I got there and told him I come to get it the bike was rolled out and parked. They gave me the wrong key and the least they could of done was help put it on the truck since they didn't do anything else. If I knew then what I kmow now i would never have taken my bike to them. read more

Do NOT take your bike to this shop. It took 3 months to get my tank back. During the 3 months I called and the owner said they were still working on it. Found out from an employee that my tank had been sitting in the owner's office for 2 months repaired. Then, of course, found out that I was over charged. This place is a rip off. read more

Expensive af.. Took a chance with this shop because they were close to my house and my regular mechanic could not see me because of holidays. They ended charging me 30% over the quoted price (which was high to begin with). So while I was in and out quick and the folks seem professional, the cost to do business here is too high. It is not my intention to sabotage a business(hence the 2 stars, my other choice was 0 stars), however I will not let go when a I find something out of place ... called here to get a quote for front wheel tire change on my sportsbike, all I needed was the labor, I was supplying the new tire (Road 5, $170 shipped). I called the place to get a quote on the labor to change the tire and I could not believe what I heard ... $160 for a front wheel new tire mount. This is ridiculous compared to what all the other places in town charge (worst case it averages around $50) .. what a waste of time and loss of future business. RIP off, I know anyone with a little bit of experience knows to avoid this place, newbies beware. Ensure you get a quote before you drop your bike here for any repairs. Flying Pistons, try to be reasonable. In case anyone were wondering, the total mount at another place was done in 20 mins for $30. PM me if you can get the job done in Cedar Park area and I will share the mechanic I trusted by bike with. read more

Jim and Lucky can work on any bike under the sun. Last year they diagnosed my Ural 750 dual carbs issue and re-jet to this central Texas region. This summer right before our SouthPadre Island trip the Ural had a heat issue and I was in short runway and they delivered ahead of schedule. Wow try doing that in Austin or other dealers. read more

narrating an incident from last year. I hadn't gotten around to write a review till now. Brought my bike in for repairs. I was told that the carbs needed to be cleaned. The repair guys opened the bike even before they gave me a quote. The quote was too high but now I couldn't go anywhere because well, they'd already opened it. Disgruntled, I paid them for the repair and picked my motorcycle after 1 week. Guess what! I had starting problems within 2 weeks. I took it to another mechanic who cleaned the carbs again (this time at half the price of Flying Piston) and found a bug in the carbs. It is a high probability that Flying Piston didn't perform the repairs at all. The second mechanic told me that he regularly gets people who were "serviced" by Flying Piston. I'd strongly encourage people looking for motorcycle repair shops to look elsewhere. read more

Long post ahead. If you have had issues with this shop, please file a complaint with the attorney general. It takes less than 10 minutes. As a small business owner myself, I really don't like giving negative reviews. But can't hold my tongue with Jim and his 'repair' shop. I initially took my 2002 Yamaha to Jim on March 8th 2023. I told him I needed new tires, that the stator was bad and I wasn't in a hurry to get the bike back. Little did I know that Jim isn't in a hurry for anything. He spent 30 minutes talking with me and said they would do a '50 point inspection' as well and email me with a quote to for all the work. Didn't hear anything from Jim or anyone else at the shop for over 2 months, so I decided to stop by one day and see if they had worked on it. Jim told me he was having trouble with mechanics, but they replaced the rear tire, still waiting on the front tire and stated there was rust in the gas tank. Most likely from my bike sitting outside all day long in the rain at his shop for 2 months. I told him to go ahead and get rid of the rust in the tank and reminded him that the battery wouldn't charge while riding and probably needed a new stator. Still didn't get an estimate or anything about the wonderful '50 point inspection' Jim kept mentioning. Another month went by with zero emails, phone calls or texts from the shop. So I stopped in again. Same old same old. Jim was again having mechanic issues and was trying to hire a new mechanic. Said he would get the front tire on sometime that week and my bike would be ready the following week. Still no estimate or communication on what they found with the '50 point inspection'. I left and another 3 weeks went by with no communication from the shop, so I called them and spoke with a new guy named BC. BC's claim to fame is that he was hired to turn the shop around, keep the mechanics accountable and get bikes out of the shop quicker. He also stated that they have bikes in the shop that have been there 2-3 years. Obviously, red flags going off everywhere, but what could I do. He said they got rid of the 'B' mechanic and the 'A team' was no working on my bike and they were needing to do a carb job to get it running properly. And my bike was really old, so it takes a lot of time to 'dial' in the carbs and get it jetted properly. Still no estimate or mention of what they found with the '50 point inspection', but he did tell me it would be done next week and that my invoice was a little over $1600. Once again, I told BC about the battery not staying charged and needed a new stator. The next week came and went with no communication from the shop. Finally two and half weeks later I get a phone call from BC and he says good news and bad news, motorcycle is running great, but the battery won't stay charged and needs a new stator. Thanks Sherlock..... I've told y'all this a half dozen times. At this point I was done with them and told them I would be in the following Tuesday to pay the $1600 and pick up my bike. Hang up the phone in frustration. The following day June 30th, 2023 I get a text message from the shop stating my bike was completed and ready for pickup, however the $1600 amount was wrong and my total charge was just under $3000. Again, mind you, I never received any kind of estimate for repair work and only approved new tires, cleaning the rust from the gas tank and replace the stator, which was never done. Confused and frustrated I stopped in the following week to get a print out of all the 'work' that was done to the bike. After waiting for about 15 minutes, Jim was finally able to get his printer working to print out the detailed invoice. I asked Jim point blank several times if he ever gave me an estimate for the work and he skated around that like a seasoned con artist. So long story longer, I told Jim that I would be turning the matter over to my attorney and that I would rather spend $3000 in attorney fees than to pay for the motorcycle. Since leaving the shop without my motorcycle, I have received about 15 text messages from them stating my motorcycle is completed and ready for pickup...... Now you decide try and communicate. As mentioned previously, if you've had issues with this shop, please file a complaint with the attorney general. read more

I don't usually bother with reviews, good or bad, but I believe my experience with Flying Piston warranted the write up to warn other people. I admit that I did not read the reviews before bringing my motorcycle to them. I dropped it off and was told they would call me with an estimate before they started any work on the bike. No other pricing or fees were discussed. They did not give me a time frame as to when they would call me with the estimate. I decided to read the Yelp reviews on the shop after dropping off my bike. I should have done my due diligence prior to taking my bike there, because the reviews were a mixed bag. The majority of negative reviews had the same three complaints: 1.it took too long to get to their motorcycle, 2. they were overpriced, and 3. the work they did was shoddy at best. They also got some great reviews so I hoped that the negative ones were just from people that are never satisfied and always have something negative to say, whether warranted or not. Over two weeks went by and I hadn't heard from the shop, so I gave them a call to see if they had looked at my bike yet, and find out what needed to be done. They told me that my bike was on their list to get done that day and they would get back to me when the estimate was complete. Another week went by before I heard from them again. They called to tell me that the total of work needed was $2200, with $1300 being labor alone. I requested they email me the itemized list of the work my bike needed. I admittedly do not have the background or knowledge to know if this was reasonable or not, but it sounded very high to me. This prompted me to call and speak with multiple people who knew their way around motorcycles and all of them told me that was super high for the work quoted. I then consulted another mechanic who told me that was an exceptionally high quote, and he was able to do the work for me at a fraction of the price. Due to one of the complaints being the quality of work from this shop was subpar, and the other complaints seemed to be legit, I decided not to have Flying Piston do the work. I called the shop and told them I decided not to have them do the work and I had someone coming to pick up the bike. I was then informed that I would first need to pay a $280 diagnostic fee. Up until that point no one ever mentioned a diagnostic fee, much less one so expensive!! They put the owner of the shop on the phone to discuss it with me. I explained that this was not something he told me upfront, not to mention that a $280 diagnostic fee was ridiculously over-priced. The owner offered to cut the fee in half. I told him the average diagnostic fee was between $50 - $100 (and was always given up front) and even $140 was a high fee. He then told me he doesn't let customers set his prices, (even though these prices aren't quoted to the customer from the beginning as they should be). This turned into a $140 lesson to always due my research before going to a shop for any work. I cannot speak to the quality of work this shop does, since I didn't have them fix my bike, but the other complaints people had appear to be spot on. read more

My last two experiences were terrible. I'm done with this place. The first bad experience was an oil change and battery. Not only did they have the motorcycle for about three weeks but imagine my shock when I found out that the bill was $350! The second was replacing rear end plastics on my other motorcycle. It took just over two months to finally get it back and that was after having to send them links to the manufacture website showing they do in fact make my motorcycle in that color. Then, after a paint snafu because the parts were on back order and the parts sent just needed to be painted (I had to tell them the insurance would definitely cover this and please contact them) before the parts were finally sent off for paint. Then I get the call to pick up the bike and there were huge gaps in the plastics and everything wasn't even tight. So once again several days later I get the call that it's ready for pickup. Wrong! The turn signals were reversed! I took it back and they finally got it right. read more

These folks are the real deal, very professional and reasonably priced. I took in my wife's Yamaha which wouldn't start, which I was fairly sure was due to clogged jets. I dropped it off at about 3PM. By 4:30 the following day I was picking up the bike. It was purring beautifully and with an oil change and an inspection to boot. I was not looking at getting tbe bike back for a few days at least but these guys really know there business. I can't say enough about their customer satisfaction skills. I knew they had my best intrest at heart. And their turnaround time was amazing. Very nice folks to deal with. I will be back. read more

I have a 2012 FXDC and my front left fork seal blew out. I had heard good things so I decided to take the bike over there. I ended up having them rebuild the entire front end with Racetek components. Phenomenal Customer Service! I've been here for a thing or two before, but never needed help like I did today... I called at 3pm on a Saturday with a flat rear tire, looking for a recommendation on a towing company, and they volunteered to come pick me up on a flatbed for half the price of the cheapest tow I've ever had! Not only did they show up right away, they replaced my tube on the spot and had me back on the road the same afternoon. I can't recommend these guys highly enough! read more

I have been around lots of motorcycle shops, but let me tell you that Flying Pistons exceeded my expectations. From the moment you walk in you get that local home vibe you like. Shop manager Lucky and Owner Jim has gone above and beyond form my Harley. Don't get me wrong all businesses need to make money in order to operate but these guys are not here to clean out your wallet. The best things is these guys are military friendly lucky being a combat vet knows what's it's like. They look for the cheapest ways to save you money and their techs in the shop are outstanding. I was a first customer and will definitely be back. They tuned up, replaced the fluids and repaired the front brake on my 99 Heritage that I inherited from my dad after he passed away. So, the bike is important as I ride to honor him. I can't think of a better place to trust with maintenance and repair. I had the WORST experience EVER at Flying Pistons!! I am new to the area so I didn't know where to take my bike and I found this place online so I took my Harley to them. I needed two new tires, an inspection, and the brakes done on my bike. They don't charge per hour so you have no idea how much they are charging you per hour for labor. When I asked about how high the price was they said it was because they did great work and guaranteed their work. I had them do the job and when I got my bike back the brakes were done wrong and I had to take it back to them to fix it. About a month later I was driving my bike to work and as I was accelerating to get on the highway the back tire locked up and I almost fell off the bike. I was able to get to the side of the road and found that the bolts on the back wheel had broken off and come out of there "supposedly, lock tight" place. I called them to come and pick up the bike and about three hours later they came out to pick it up. I had to walk back home and get my truck. When I got to their shop they said that none of this was their fault and that I would need to pay for all the repairs. I got my trailer and picked up my bike. I will NEVER go back to them! read more

I have been using Flying Piston for over a year. I can't say enough about Jim the owner, Jim and Royce, sorry I don't remember the other mechanics name, and Mike the Service Manager. Even yesterday I called and they were able to fix two flats on my Trike in the same day. They are always busy; however, they will do their best to get you rolling again as fast as possible. These guys were friendly and professional (especially Jim, the owner), and the shop was clean and well maintained. They are also conveniently located for me, less than 5 miles away. I took my 2006 Yamaha FZ6 there to have the plugs changed... I had installed Iridium plugs on it and it ran like crap afterwards, and one plug would not come back out for me. But they got it fixed with no problems, and installed standard NGK plugs which worked out great. They also installed a new Michelin PR3 on the front, and fixed my sticking front brake lever issue. All of this at a very FAIR price, with fantastic customer service, and it was ready the next day. They also informed me that I needed new steering stem bearings, which I already knew from the noise, but they did not pressure me to do it and I still appreciate them notifying me about it because I may not have known about it and it could be a safety issue. BOTTOM LINE: I will definitely go back here for future service, and would recommend them to anyone needing fast and dependable service for their two-wheeler. read more

I needed to have the fuel filter in my Harley Road King replaced and when I went to the shop they told me they needed me to leave the bike so they could do a complete diagnostic. I was fine with that and told them just to call me when they finished the diagnostic and could tell me how much the labor and parts would be. After 2 days I called them to see what the status was of the bike but the call went to voicemail. I went in the next day when I was in the area for a job and when I stopped by they said the diagnostic was not done but they'd finish it tomorrow. The next day they said they had replaced the fuel filter already (without contacting me) and the cost was going to come to $600. When I went in to pay the fee, they told me the master cylinder was also bad and needed to be replaced, it was not serviceable. Jim (owner) told me that it would be $350 and they would give me the off brand master cylinder because it would be cheaper than the Harley Davidson OEM MC. I approved it, but the next day I wanted to see how much the actual Harley part was and found out the OEM part was $120 cheaper than the part they gave me. This was the second dishonest thing they had done with the bike and after it being in there for 10 days, I went in to get the bike back. When I got into the shop, Jim said he could give the bike back, but first he would have to charge a $50 restocking fee for the part if it wasn't going to go on the bike and charged me the $350 anyways without having the master cylinder replaced for the labor the put into it so far. The way this shop works is dishonest and I hope that someone can read this and avoid wasting your time and money here. read more

Moved to Austin a year and some change ago and this was the first place that I saw while searching for a place to get my motorcycle checked. Went there for a 1000 mile checkup and they were awesome. They were very friendly and educated on things about my bike. I took it back to get my muffler replaced and again, they did an amazing job. I used to drop my bikes up to Horny Toad (where i bought them from) for services etc.... but that was becoming a major hassle just because of the distance I had the travel and waiting around for 2-3 hours for an oil change etc etc. So when Flying Piston opened up down the road from me I was very happy to try them out to see how they would fair out. I'm happy to say that after a year or so of dropping my bikes down for various services that I am very pleased with the service I receive from Flying Piston. I highly recommend them for all kinds of motorcycle services. They are extremely knowledgeable regarding all aspects of motorcycle problems. My experience is that they will tell you what they will need to do to the bike before you leave and the kinda money it will cost you. There will be no surprises when you leave the shop as to what will be done and how much it will cost. And if there are any surprises during the course of the service they give a call to tell you what they found. Also they maintain impeccable records... so you can go back when ever and get copies of what service was carried out and when. They also email out receipts and your records if needed. Very convenient indeed. Again I highly recommend them. The other extremely negative comment on this site regarding this shop ... seems like a major miss alignment of the planets for all parties concerned, a once off issue perhaps...... certainly not my experience at this business up to now. I usually take my bike to QZ Motorcycle shop by Mopac and Parmer and have always had good a experience there. About a year ago I took a bike to QZ to have them install a set of tires and they charge me $50 per tire. Unfortunately QZ is closed on Monday and it was my only day off so I took my bike to the Flying Piston to have them do it. I made the mistake of not asking for the price up front since I thought tire installation was probably a similar price for every shop. After the installation I was shocked to learn that they charged me almost $150 per tire just for installation (I brought the tires). Needless to say I won't come back. read more
