UPDATE: After I posted this, Chaime and the tech I spoke to from this location reached out to…read morerefund my diagnostic fee. The staff were friendly and straightforward about it. That's more than most shops would do, so points back for that. Leaving the original review below for context. Inspections here are cheap and quick, the staff is friendly, and they'll re-inspect for free within 15 days if you fail. I've had larger work done here before, they replaced my water pump for around $2,000. It seems to have held up fine. Here's my problem. After a failed emissions test I paid $95 for a diagnosis. The tech came back with exactly one recommendation: $320 for parts and labor on a mass airflow sensor. The MAF sits on top of the engine, is held in by two screws, and takes about fifteen minutes to swap. I bought a Bosch unit for roughly $70. More importantly, a new MAF alone would not have fixed the car. Not even close. The actual failures were a cracked charge hose at the turbo outlet causing a tremendous boost leak, a failed PCV system (it's a well-documented weak point on this engine, and had coated the MAF and the whole intake tract in oil vapor), and a valve cover gasket that blew as a result. None of that was mentioned to me at the counter. I repaired all three myself for about $250 in parts. All my codes are gone. I'm not a mechanic. I make coffee for a living. I don't have time or money for stuff like this. If I had approved that $320 quote, I'd have paid it and still had a very broken car. Go here knowing precisely what you need done. I wouldn't rely on them to find it for you.

Came here for a state inspection and will not be back. I've been coming here for two years because…read morethe location is super convenient but it's not worth it to me after this. I had to wait 45 minutes for a 5 minute emissions test, they did another inspection on a customer who came in after me before mine, then proceeded to try to sell me an oil change and brake fluid that I did not need. My car takes synthetic oil and was at 7k miles, you can go 10-15k, or once a year with synthetic. I can't say for sure that any of this was because I'm a woman or Hispanic but I can't say it wasn't. Needless to say, they lost a customer. Ladies beware. I learned afterwards that there are some places that will do the inspection for free and the state website says the fee is $7.50 but Brakes Plus charged me $11.50. Don"t pay for the inspection (and insult) like I did. Go somewhere else!!!

In regard to your response Frank I'll expose again why no one should use you. To start I used you…read moreafter the break issue we resolved to give you a shot. I bring up that brake issue because it eventually became a pattern of dropping the ball, and repeated issues 1. My car had to be towed because basic logic well known issue for GMC/Chevy 6.2 liter V8 engines have a lifter issue which requires engine replacement. The car wasn't in bad shape as you say. Cadillac dealership said I should have it towed due to the knocking sound. My car has always been kept immaculate. Yes you quoted a fair price, it was Lambs in Lakeway that was ridiculous and most people know they are. The engine took long because they sent the wrong engine and in regards to my finances it wasn't I couldn't pay . I was at the mercy of you and I was nothing but polite every single interaction with you. Your dropped the ball so many times and you actually asked me for advance payment at one point because you needed to pay your taxes . I didn't want to pay you UPFRONT Frank. You fix then pay, that's most every way it's done . You didn't have the money to cover costs which is a concern regarding running a business. I had also just spent money on another car repair and boat repairs . The car sat as I decided what I wanted to do. As far as stating you could have charged me storage you never once mentioned that and I have every phone call that proves that. Pretty shady of you to pull that out on your reply here. Again not on single time did you ever mention storage fees. So please don't act as if it was some favor you did. The car went in for an engine replacement. As you confirmed the day you put the engine in to test drive you call me telling me I need steering column replacement. Yes I have you on recording Frank stating that indeed the lift and big tires were the culprit. The steering was completely fine and it had not been driven once per you as we waited for the engine issue and replacement to be resolved. You now understand why I recorded you. You can't remember what you told me. I didn't struggle to pay you. I had a boat in repair and another car a Range Rover in repair. I communicated to you very professionally. By the way let's remember you had me pay up front on everything. It was the engine that was ordered that was delayed. 2. Regarding the transmission line. Let the public see this post. I pick up my car from Frank and I make it about a quarter to half a mile or so down road and what becomes the problem is the transmission line. Frank I have that call to you recorded as well and your claim that I accelerated or false and blew the line is total BS. It had nothing to do with big tires. I'm saving all my facts, statements from GM certified techs , and video of your guy coming over to "fix" it. Within a day or 2 it went out again and I made you tow it for free. It was your guy that you sent and had him do what he did and sent me on my way and that all was fine only to have it sent back to you. By the way on our recorded call you tried to lead me to believe with certainty it was one thing when in fact you were wrong and called me with another reason. Again grateful I recorded both those conversations. The reputable mechanics I discussed were my brothers out of Houston. My brother owns a professional garage and luxury and collector car biz for 22 years. The other reputable people was a connection I had out of A Cadillac dealer in Dallas. I mentioned this to you and so logically my car stayed locally with you. 3. The whole issue about you spending 200 for the detail I will just say to anyone reading this look at the pics of my Escalade left in his care. Never should have happened Frank. By the way I took a time stamp video of my car before it went back to you. I didn't spill the oil. That's a regular engine oil. Why would I need engine oil to leave in my backseat after you just repaired and did an engine replacement. Again shady of you to blame that on me. And by the way I had to waste 3 hours of my work day sitting there waiting on a detail. Completely unprofessional. 4. I asked you you fix my windshield wiper motor while you had it. You never did. I kept asking you very time you had the car and I have your texts alone that show you forgot several times. same thing Frank regarding the transmission thermostat. I asked you several times, you came out to fix my running board and forgot to get the transmission thermostat and windshield motor. Again pretty crazy you fixed my transmission yet our texts show you dropping the ball on the thermostat. I have lost count on the amount of texts I have that show you never show up on time. I'm done with my response. I'll update this post after claims court.

I don't normally leave reviews, but I feel obligated to warn others about my experience here…read more I brought my vehicle in for a fuel injector issue and supplied my own parts. The shop proceeded with work without clearly communicating the scope, process, or total cost upfront. I ended up paying around $1,000 expecting the issue to be properly resolved. Within about a month, the exact same problem came back and the vehicle began dumping fuel, running poorly, and became undriveable. I had to tow it back to the shop. At that point, instead of standing behind their work, they initially tried to charge me again to fix the same issue. I was also told, without any proof, that someone else may have worked on the vehicle. After pushing back, they did additional work and returned the vehicle but the same issue came back immediately the same day I picked it up. At this point, I've lost confidence in their ability to properly diagnose or repair the vehicle. Between the repeated failure, lack of accountability, and poor communication, this has been a frustrating and costly experience. If you're considering using this shop, I strongly recommend getting everything in writing upfront and being cautious. Based on my experience, I would not return.

John is very good at what he does. He is a no-nonsense guy who will tell it like it is. He gave me…read morethe price and he honored what he said. He didn't try to upsell me. He did suggest that I make some concerns a priority, which I thought was a great way of approaching it because clearly he's advising something, but he didn't try to convince me that I should go ahead and do it while the car is in his shop. I trust this guy inherently. He'll tell it like it is.
