this man is complete nice guy, brought him a rim to put a tire on, and balance, mind you it was fresh painted and I waited three week for paint and clear coat to fully cure, Brought it to this man and he said I'm real carful with new painted rims, did not use a jaw cover and drove a spoon into the paint causing me to repaint a quarter of side rim over, hell what's another 7 hours of fixing right. After almost having it simi better i see he didn't even balance it. In my opinion he's a hack not because he didn't balance the tire but because he felt the job he did on my stuff was less important than other things he was doing in the shop. Lesson Get my own balancer and tire mounter and stay away from people who don't care to do the right thing. read more

Needed to drop my bike off for service. Called ahead and aligned with John on a good day for me to drop-off my bike. When I arrived to drop off my bike, the door was closed. I called twice and left two voicemails to John - no return call. I waited 30 mins and John never showed up. I asked the neighbor shop and they had no idea where John was. I went to another shop to service my bike. I never got my bike serviced by QZ Cycels, but after the poor cx service, I'd avoid this shop. Great to find a shop like this. The problem is that my 1997 1400 Suzuki Intruder is like me. Too damn old! I used Zabor's Cycle Repair for years. Unfortunately after he closed I haven't found anyone good to work on my machine. The thought of getting a newer bike at this point isn't that interesting. I have the perfect Corbin seat, windshield, highway pegs, etc. I also know this bike pretty well. Unlike the modern cruisers, I sit upright and that helps my old, creaky back a lot. I stopped in one of the local Suzuki dealers and they won't work on it because it's too old. They suggested QZ. I stopped by there a while back, talked to them and was impressed. Left the bike for them a month or two later. They took a good look and not surprising it needed major carb. work (as ignorant as I am about engines, I DID know this). They took it all apart and called let me know it need some parts, which weren't that cheap.I gave the the go ahead. They took a really good look at the bike as they worked on it. I had them do some other routine maintenance as well. They test rode it several times. At all times I knew what was going on and what it was going to cost. Finally, after letting me know about another issue, which we both agreed can wait a while, my bike was ready. The carbs for the have been responsible for really poor performance the last few years. Hard to start, rough running and frequent stalling (even with the idle up pretty high). The bike ran better when the engine was nice and hot, but not great. When I picked it up, it was like riding another machine. Every time I stopped at a light, I thought it had stalled because it was idling so low and smoothly. I'm used to revving it, a lot and now have learn how to ride it all over without revving. It also starts like a dream and runs much smoother! My whole experience with QZ Cycle has made me a big fan. Review for QZ cycle. John is the best. I regularly ride at over 120MPH and I know that every nut and bolt could be the difference between life and death. I wouldn't trust anyone except John with my cycle. Ii took a little while to schedule in and with good reason, John is busy because he can be trusted does good work and doesn't charge an arm and a leg to do it. I am so glad to have found someone in Austin that can be trusted to do the job right. In the end I had 1 clogged jet, 1 jet not seating right, a broken intake boot, and a cracked exhaust pipe. He repaired all of that, and also flushed all my fluids and checked my tires. On that note good thing he checked they were way off. What impressed me most is that he personally rides everything after working on it. He told me the back tire broke loose for him. I have been riding that bike for years and never gotten the tire to break loose, so I know he didn't take it lightly on her. I love that when someone not only talks the talk but walks the walk. The fact that he got down on it hard enough to spin a tire tells me a lot. Now she purrs like a kitten with that deep loud rumble she had when I first got her, no more idle problems, and the response time when I roll on it is 1000% better. Honest and good trustworthy work that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, sign me up for that!!! John is kickass. Here's the thing.... Since I got my bike it has run like crap. It's a hand me down- only 7k miles. After John got his hands on my bike it now idles, starts without carb cleaner, and does not pop or stall. Like a new bike. John gave me an estimate of what needed to be done and when everything was all said and done the actual cost was right there. John knows bikes. He does great, honest work at a good price. John does things the right way. No half ass work - he does it the right way the first time. John also put new tires on the bike since the ones I had were 11 years old( originals). This is what impressed me. John was to call one day and get estimates on the tires and call me the next day in the morning. He did get estimates on the tires and called me the next morning. Months ago, I had some issues with my motorcycle, and two friends came over and agreed to help fix it. And then, we all somehow made it worse. Not sure how. All I know is that it decided to stop running after we worked on it. I had other friends who wanted to help out and fix said bike, but life happens to us all, and those friends had to bow out. Months pass, as I watch other people enjoying the lovely weather and freedom of riding their bikes all over town. I decided to take action and enlist a pro. After being told by another cycle shop on Burnet to "call back in 10 days", I was worried I wouldn't be able to ride my Honda ever again. Thanks to Yelp, I found John at Q.Z. Cycle. He's a no-nonsense kinda guy, but he's solid and very accommodating. Don't get confused when he answers his business line with a simple, "Hello?" He told me to bring the bike in, but it might take a week before he could get to it. A week later? I have my bike back, and it's running better than ever. I wish more places ran their business the way John runs QZ Cycle. He is honest and fair and takes pride in his work. I have a motorcycle that sat waaay too long and thought this "baby is a goner" but John and his "miracle hands" were able to bring it back to life. And I know it wasn't an easy thing to do considering the shape it was in. I think it was easier for Moses to part the Red Sea than it was to bring this bike back into working condition. Call ahead to make sure they have the time and space to work on your bike if you want to get it done that same day. If you're going down Palmer after exiting MoPac, this place is the second left turn you can make from Palmer. If you see a big Yamaha sign behind the window you know you're looking at the right place. I bought a used 1999 Suzuki SV650 about a week before I came here, and I brought it here to get a new rear tire mounted on the bike. The bike had been sitting for so long the tires had thousands of miles of tread left but was already cracking. On top of that, the fork seals were rotting and started to peel off. Or so I thought. I called several bike mechanics in North Austin to figure out where I could get the rear tire mounted for the cheapest price. Prices ranged from $70+ from a stealership to $45, which is what QZ Cycle offered - a very reasonable price. Zach did the job and didn't mind me watching everything he did and occasionally asking stupid questions about my bike and a bunch of things I saw around the shop. I also bothered John a little bit while he was working on another bike to ask about other stuff around the shop. I was pretty much standing right next to Zach the whole time until John asked me to stand back a little, which I later found out was because due to insurance purposes no one is supposed to even be in the work area. There was a pretty big sign that stated so. I am not a smart customer. Anyway, while changing the tire I asked Zach how to tighten the chain, and he ended up tightening and lubing the chain as well after mounting the tire. He also put some WD-40 on the rough foot pegs' pivots, which I didn't even ask for. I also asked about the fork seals, which I thought needed replacement asap - a job that would cost in excess of $200. He explained to me that it was actually the dust seals that were rotting, and the oil seals which are the important bits were still fine as long as I didn't see any leaking oil, and that I didn't need to get it replaced for at least another riding season. I even asked if it was something I could do myself, and he explained what needed to be done and the tools required. I knew right then and there that these guys are honest mechanics, and are in no way out to get your money. As I was leaving, John popped out of nowhere just to shake my hand and tell me to be careful. They both informed me that I should take it slow and ride gently for 100 miles to break in the new tires. You can tell these guys care about their customers. I rode out to carve Lime Creek that same day, not heeding their advice, but that has nothing to do with QZ Cycle. The place doesn't look nice on the outside and there's no waiting lounge for you to sit in while you wait for them to work on your bike, but if you just want someone who will work on your bike and not any unnecessary luxuries, this is the place to go. read more

I took my "new" (1985) BMW K100RT to John. It had a number of problems, among which was that it had just started leaking gasoline and thus really wasn't safe to ride. John was great - even though he doesn't normally work on anything other than Japanese bikes, he took pity on the fix I was in and chose to stay late to fix the fuel line for me. He didn't have to, but he did and also told me some of the other things that needed to be done to the bike when I found somebody who does work on BMWs. First off, before I begin, I would like to let it be known to all that Google maps (and the map here on Yelp) are actually wrong--it's close, but it's on the opposite side of the street. You won't see a sign either, some weird legal stuff they're still trying to work out, but just look on the opposite side of the road, and you'll see some of the tell-tale signs of a mechanic's shop. Edit: one of the pictures here shows the storefront well, take a gander at it so you know what to look for. I was recommended to QZ cycles for an engine rebuild by two other locations I called, one of them saying he used to work with John--and had nothing but good things to say. This Yelp page definitely speaks for itself, so I honestly don't even feel the need to write, except to say they're all correct. I'd say the big deal is that John has integrity and humility, and it's just difficult to find that so readily evident in mechanics. It's impressive, and it sticks with you. You can hear it in his voice. I left my scooter there for way too long, and when I finally had the money to come do what I had been meaning to all along, he didn't give me any trouble, even though I had my tail between my legs. His pricing is reasonable. I'm still waiting to get my bike back, but I have full confidence it will be better than it was when new when he's done with it. If there is a negative, in my particular case, the repair is coming along a little slowly, but there was a line, and I certainly took my time, so I don't fault him for it. What's more, he's working on my scooter, and I know he prefers motorcycles. Yamaha Riva 2001, for the record. Anyways, I will definitely be recommended him to people I know, and certainly be returning. Update: Not only did he perform the repair within the budget he promised, even though his hours ended up going over, in order to tune the scooter properly he serviced the carb. When it got back to me, the scooter idled so quietly that coming up to a stoplight, one would swear that it had just died. It just became silent. Unbelievable. The man is like the horse whisperer of horsepower. Zach's pretty cool as well, his personal assistant. I've since had many interaction with Jon and Zach, and they have all been positive--including giving me some studs for an exhaust for a motorcycle I later owned when I had some break off, giving free advice, and just being helpful guys. I had them do a general service on another bike I got. And they hosted a motorcycle co-op at their garage free of charge. If you want to buy the guy a beer, know that he only drinks Dos Equis. Also, don't be put off by Jon's quiet nature. He doesn't like people talking too much or sitting over his shoulder. It's just his way; but he's an honest man who does good work. Zach will make a much better conversation companion if you need someone to talk over what's going on. Anyways, steller service. John shot me straight. No bs. He adjusted the carbs, and installed new custom handle bars. He is friendly and knows his stuff. His hourly rate is quite affordable for someone with that kind of experience. I think he said 25+ years. When I arrived he had a 35 year old mini bike up on the lift. Took my '05 Honda CBR600 here after purchasing it off craigslist for a once-over. Overall they did an excellent job getting my bike into perfect shape. She wasn't that bad to begin with but they did all of the basic lubing, oil change, and chain maintenance. They also fixed some electrical issues with my headlights, put in new flush-mount turn signals, and unseized my rear brake and replaced brake pads. The bike rode slicker than snot in a chicken beak when I got it back. Service was excellent and pricing was very reasonable. read more

If you look at the ratings these guys get, it seems it would be pretty hard to live up to 5 stars. But these guys really do. Took my bike in for an oil change and front tire replacement. Simple enough, but they didn't think it was running just right so they started looking around. Turns out I have a couple of cracked vacuum hoses which was screwing with my carb mixture. They fixed it on the spot, explained what was going on and did it in a way that I could understand. I would recommend them to anyone looking for good honest and capable service. I had a tank leak caused by a cap that wasn't vented. It blew out a weld...well these guys took the bike in on a Wednesday and had it back in less than a week. It was high quality work. Let me preface by saying I am in no way affiliated with them (this is going to be glowing, so I wanted to get that out of the way). I found QZ on Yelp and immediately made my way over with my Ninja 650 (my first bike!) a little over a year ago. Zach greeted me and I immediately took a liking to the guy. He has a great amount of confidence in what he does, and takes a lot of pride in it. He did the first few oil changes, chain lubes / adjustments, etc for my Ninja. Shortly after I found them, I laid my bike down at about 40-50 MPH. I had it towed to them and they immediately went to work on it. Zach took a look at it and told me what I'd need. That was exactly what I got, and at a great price. I've since bought a new bike (Yamaha FZ-09) and they did my first two oil changes (conventional at really low miles and synthetic at around 2500-3k, I think it was). The FZ-09 is somewhat finicky, and they have always been super cool about looking at it for me to put a lot of my fears to rest. I can imagine the guy who just started riding, who knows nothing about bikes, being terrified of every little noise can get annoying, but John and Zach have always been awesome about it. I actually just ordered quite a bit of stuff (manual CCT, grips, levers, braided brake lines...) and will be working with them to get it all installed. Normally this kind of stuff stresses me out, but I actually look FORWARD to it with QZ. Every single person I meet who needs a mechanic, or rides at all hears about QZ. After buying a few quarts along w/ a filter decided I really didn't have time or the need to get dirty, esp on a beautiful day like today. I called QZ and asked him what he would charge. Me: and the bike is ok... mostly... Her: HUH? What? What happened? Me: I.. uh.. took a little spill on the bike on the way to work.. no biggie.. really.. Her: are you ok? do I need to come get you? .. where are you? You're not in the hospital are you? Me: no.. I'm at work.. I'm fine.. I was coming to as stop .. well, stopped already actually and my front tire hit some gravel and slid out from under me and I I fell over..no biggie Her: you WERE wearing your helmet, right? Me: you know I promised to love, honor, obey and always wear my helmet.. of course I was wearing my helmet.. and I used it... I banged my head on the road when I went down, and my goggles hit the road and mashed into my eyebrow and gave me a little cut... other than a skinned elbow, that's it.. really.. Her: are you sure? Me:.... well, my eye is a bit swollen... I'm gonna have a good shiner.. Her:How swollen? Me: I can still see out of it... Her: oh, good Me: ... for now... Well, you get the gist.. so the only damage to the bike is a small scuff on the front corner of the gas tank and a cracked windshield.. so I calls John at QZ Cycle.. he says, bring it on up and let's take a look.. so I rides up a day or so later and he takes one look at the eye.. because at this point I am merely a means by which the eye transports itself, and says.. 'hit some gravel huh.. well, let's look at the bike' He finds me an almost identical windshield, orders it and a couple of days later it is in and he installs it.. Again, John treated me like a valued customer and not just a quick buck to be had.. I will continue to take my trusty '86 Honda Shadow that the Honda dealer won't even look at due to it's age to QZ whenever it needs service, and I am confident I will continue to get the best service available and at a great price from a great guy to boot! read more

QZ got my 2002 ZZR1200 up and running great after a terrible experience at Total Performance Cycles in Pflugerville. Total Performance Cycles charged me $550 to do my carbs and they did nothing to them. QZ Cycle showed me the parts and I was totally ripped off at the other place. Don't go to something closer to you, go to people that do the job right like QZ. read more

Zach and John did an excellent job on my KZ750. Had the carbs cleaned up, full service done , and the fork seals replaced. They seem to be reasonably priced, and were super straight forward. It's also super apparent they know what they're doing when it comes to the older Kawasaki's. read more

I remember last year they changed the tires for my bike for a very good price and right now I just picked up my bike from oil change which I would say the price is also fair. Top Notch. I came from out of town (Seguin) to have new tires installed before a trip to Colorado. I had scheduled an appt at 1030. Due to I-35 being shut down I arrived an hour late. That did not stop them from getting my bike on a lift in no time and installing my tires, while at the same time showing and explaining some things to me while the install was in progress. First and foremost I have to commend these guys for not holding my bad review (at first) against a friend of mine that has similar bikes and first name as mine. He thinks that maybe I was to harsh in my assessment of this shop due to I didn't believe they actually did the work they charged me for during a routine service check. I could be wrong but that is the feeling i got when i left. Ever since then I have been skeptical but updated my review, reposted it and even plan on taking my bike back there in a week or so for some much needed maintenance all off of the word of my friend and his new experience there. Others have confirmed that the two mechanics are extremely fair and knowledgeable when it comes to all types of bikes. Maybe they are some what selective on who and what bikes they like to work on but my friend swears by them now. They have fixed his fork seals, busted oil case and brake issues (just to name a view) on his Busa. I really should have given this place a second chance even though my first experience left me as a nonbeliever. So thank you QZ (John & Zack) for not holding my review against my buddies or their bikes, that shows a lot of professionalism and class!! read more
