Flying Fish at Cypress Waters is a casual seafood restaurant with an epic view of Northlake. When the weather is nice, dining on the patio at the Flying Fish will fool you into thinking you're on vacation in another state. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Flying fish has a casual, fun, marine feel. The restaurant sits on the edge of Northlake, and the view on a pretty day is amazing. Inside there is plenty of seating, and the entrance will lead you to the line to place your order. You may also spot Big Mouth Billy Bass on the wall, too. 1 Star. Service - The service is great for a quick service restaurant. You place your order, give them your name, and wait for them to call you. The staff were nice, helpful, smiling, and best of all efficient. Even though our line appeared long, it moved quickly. 1 Star. Food - First the good - I ordered a Nashville Hot Catfish Sandwich. It was exactly how I imagined it would be. The fried catfish was hot and tender. The "Nashville Hot" part of the sandwich was a tangy sauce, which is a good move considering how delicate fish can be. In the end, it worked out great for me as the sandwich provided a satisfying tangy bite that was cooled by lettuce and bun. I also ordered the Mexican Cocktail. Served in a big, chilled goblet with shrimp and avocado, it was a beautiful site. Unfortunately for me, the cocktail sauce was ketchup based and I wasn't a fan. I prefer this dish at similar DFW restaurants. 1 Star. Will I Return? - Yes. Flying Fish is in my rotation during two yearly events: Fall when the weather is nice and the patio is amazing, and during Lent when I can't eat meat on Fridays. Yes, I will be back. 1 Star.
What a great find! Great location and food at really good prices! I visited this restaurant in Dallas while on business. It serves seafood and fish dishes in a casual atmosphere. You order at counter and sit either inside or outdoors. We sat outdoors to enjoy the lake view this particular location offered. The lady behind the counter was very helpful at explaining their wide food selection. I chose catfish basket with fried okra and beer. The fish was fresh and well seasoned, it came with a hefty portion of fries and fried okra as well as a salad! Oh my! Delicious! Awesome views! Perfect! I truly enjoyed my time at Flying Fish!

Extensive menu on wall. We had the rainbow trout, grilled served with lemon slice, with grilled veggies-zucchini and yellow squash- and red beans/ rice. Excellent! Huge piece of fish. Grilled veggies were perfect! A variety of hot sauces on the table. Table clean up service very attentive. Summary Fun fishing themed restaurant with friendly and efficient counter service-outstanding fish menu with many options, happy hour, and specials!! Great dinner!!
Flying fish always does a Memorial Day special on crawfish. I have been on more than one occasion, though always at the Arlington location. This was my first time at this spot. It is closer to home and has a lovely view! I should have just driven out to Arlington. Ordering is easy, you go to the counter and they give you a little buzzer when your order is ready. It is pretty no fuss. I ordered the crawfish special, 4lbs with corn and potatoes. I took my seat and waited in anticipation. I picked up my order and took it back to the table to tuck in. It was steaming hot, but there was no visible sign of seasoning. Also, I have had crawfish on a few occasions this season, and these were SMALL. No matter, let's go! There was NO discernible seasoning on the crawfish. Even sucking the head, I know that sounds terrible, you could pick up a hint of lemon, but nothing else. I have NEVER encountered bland crawfish before. Not ever. I would have told you that wasn't a thing. But here we were. After going through about ten of them I finally had to go to the counter to ask for a cup of seasoning so I could douse it myself. They obliged. It helped. Even the vegetables had nothing to them, if they were boiled in anything other than water, you would expect a potato to pick it up, nothing. There were two corn, one was shriveled up and sad and the other was half frozen. The side laying on the hot boiled crawfish picked up some residual heat, but again no seasoning. I even went back to photos on the Arlington yelp page and you could see them seasoned and delicious. This isn't a flying fish issue, this is a location issue. Maybe they had their B team working on Memorial Day. Next time I will just drive a bit farther and go on down to Arlington. The boil was well done, the seasoning was non-existent. Also people were clearing the tables outside, themselves. No one bothered to come out there so they were just piling plates and such on the same two tables so they could enjoy the outdoors. It wasn't very busy when I came in. And no one cleared those outdoor tables while I was there. You spend all that money to put a location against the water, you should make sure people can take advantage of the view.
You just gotta love Flying Fish. I'm usually not a fan of the drummed up, artificial kitchy environment but, in this case I'll make an exception. They've done a fantastic job of sourcing old fish camp relics and artifacts and using just enough to give the vibe of an old place on the water. As always,this location is serving up hot,fresh tasty helpings of oysters, catfish,shrimp, redfish,gumbo etc. at good prices ,in a casual relaxed fun environment. No reason to do anything except... Go!
The prices were actually pretty decent when we were looking over the menu so I was pleasantly surprised .. that is until we got our food. We got the fish tacos and shrimp skewers. They were both barely ok when it came to flavor but on the bland side. The fish tacos were super not appetizing looking and tasting. The corn shells were super soggy by the time I got my first bite and I didn't even dilly dally either. I got straight to business as I was quite hungry when we got our food and yet it was still falling apart. The shrimp skewers had a handful or so of shrimp on them and they were not properly deveined. This made them a bit unappetizing to eat and look at. Their beans and rice side was inedible due to an odd smell. It tasted like they bad been sitting in rancid beer before being served up on our dish. We did have a side salad and that was pretty nice and a good sized portion. But that is just about all I can say that is good about our food here. There is plenty of parking. The view of the little pond here was nice out on the patio. Service wasn't that great. The cashier lady wasn't a very friendly person.
A really decent meal at a great price with happy hour beers even on the weekend... although "normal" beer prices are pretty good too! Nice casual atmosphere on the "lake". Outdoor patio seating if weather cooperates. The gumbo wasn't my personal favorite but I know a lot that love it. It DID have a good amount of tasty shrimp in it!
The restaurant overlooks the lake and has amazing views from the patio. They also have indoor seating. It's a self-serve restaurant - you place the order at the counter, get your buzzer and pick up the order when it's ready. The staff are friendly and willing to help. Food is just average. The crawfish boil was a disappointment. Will not recommend it. The rest of the food was not bad. Parking can be tricky during busy hours. Pricing is moderate. If you are looking for a place to chill out with a view, have a few drinks and eat some snacks, this is the right place for you!
I have a decently strong stomach so when I say it took everything not to vomit when I bit into this oyster, it means something. We eat oysters regularly when traveling (raw, fried, grilled) and am familiar with what to expect, so when I took it up to the counter and was met with laughter from two men telling me that's "just how oysters are", I wasn't thrilled. I was told the rest would be fine to eat, I said there was no way I was eating them and they offered to throw them away. That was it, no offer to even refund the item. I emailed corporate, no response. I completely get that sometimes things happen, but the terrible reaction from the staff has ended our eating with this company.
I went to the restaurant on a whim on a Friday early evening. I ordered a simple meal: salmon, rice, and seafood gumbo. Perhaps I was mistaken, but the seafood gumbo was more of a shrimp gumbo. It was still good of course. The salmon was also tasty. I was greeted kindly by the cashier. The restaurant interior was well decorated. Is it the best seafood I have ever had in the Dallas area? No. But I do not think anyone expects that. Nevertheless, the food was still good and I will return.

This is in a nice location and has great views over the nearby lake/pond and walking path. The area is new and is actually quite impressive with a few options all in the same area. Parking can be a bit limited. Flying Fish is good for having an expansive menu that includes grilled, fried, blackened fish, shrimp, oysters, in platters, po'boy, salads, etc. You order at the counter and seat yourself. The drinks are self serve and include the typical sodas and iced tea. They have a ton of condiments and hot sauces available. Some of the food was good and some was a disappointment. The grilled tilapia po'boy was cooked perfectly and a good portion. The fried oyster po'boy was so skimpy and had maybe five oysters on it. The po'boy bread was really good. The place is worth a try but maybe stick to some of the popular options such as fried catfish platter, etc. Try to visit when the weather is nice so you can enjoy the outdoor seating. read more

Came here for lunch with some coworkers on a Summer FRYday (see what I did there?) before school starts. The place was packed and I understand why. I was met with a long line that moved quickly. Staff was pleasant. You order at the counter (which always makes group outings easier) and you're given a buzzer to let you know when your food is ready. You seat yourself and wait for the buzz to pick up your food and proceed to grub. I got the catfish basket and it costed around $9. There was a little bit of everyone here (nice) and cops seem to be regulars. Lots of fried seafood on the menu, but they've got you grilled lovers covered too. I admired the patio seating from indoors because it was just too hot out, but I imagine it would be great to dine out there in the fall or during sunset. I suppose one would say there is a "view", but being from Cali I honestly wasn't too impressed. I would return and enjoyed the chill casual atmosphere. They are a nice addition to Coppell. read more

This place was a lot better than I was expecting and more casual than I thought it was going to be, overall, very nice! My friend and I stopped here after a morning of shopping and being July 4th, it was empty. You walk in, order at the counter, get a buzzer and then go up for your food. We were stoked to see beers at a reasonable price and they give you a frosty fish bowl to drink out of which is appreciated here in Texas! I got the Snappy Grilled Catfish plate with slaw an fries and it was the perfect size and not as expensive as I thought it was going to be. Beautiful views of a body of water right near (not sure if it's an actual lake), ambiance is chill at this place. Is it owned by Rodeo Goat or in the same restaurant group? I always see the two of them together so not sure if they're in cahoots. read more

LOVE this restaurant!!! Great ambiance with a beautiful patio on the water. Service is always extra friendly here. And the FOOD is AMAZING!! When we first started coming here, my favorite was the Grouper PoBoy sandwich, but now we also get the crab and shrimp plates, beers, margaritas, and just enjoy the sunset with DELICIOUS seafood!! read more
Flying high! So my wife and I were riding around and we saw this complex and started to drive through. She was in a mood for seafood and we found this place. We walked in and it wasn't quite what I was expecting. You order at the counter and they bring the food over to you. Tina, was the counter lady and she saw us looking their huge menu. So she asked my wife what does she like and she said shrimp. She got a simple shrimp basket with fries, hush puppies and a lemonade. I got the Mahi cooked traditional with red beans and rice plus vegetables. The food came out promptly and I tasted the red brands and rice. Can I say, glorious as it was delicious to the point where I ate it all first. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her shrimp as she was quiet throughout dinner. Tina came over and talked with us about their other locations that serve a traditional breakfast and how much different it looked compared to the location in Valley Ranch. I'm sure if you enjoy fried or grilled seafood, this place won't disappoint. They do not have scallops and that just broke my heart. But rest assured you will find something to enjoy here! read more

Another day of searching for good food and I stumbled across Flying Fish. I saw great reviews on the restaurant so I decided to give it a try. The one thing I can say is.... The seafood is fresh tasting. I felt as if the fish that I got was caught and fried on the same day. This is the reason why I gave this restaurant four stars. My only wish is that they put a bit more seasoning on the catfish. My shrimp Po boy was dry. I had to slather my Po boy with tartar sauce. The shrimp was fresh and fried to perfection but unfortunately, it needed more seasoning. I'm sorry to say but I hated the hush puppies. They were too sweet for my taste. Overall, this restaurant was pretty good. Please don't let my review deter you from going to this restaurant. For my taste, I just needed more salt and pepper. read more

I visited a few weeks ago, but please trust the memory is fresh in my mind. Coming into the main building I was hit with the most delicious aromas and it immediately cranked my hunger up 10x. My hubby got the grilled grouper, mixed veggie and red beans & rice. I got the fried catfish salad. And we enjoyed freshly shucked oysters together. I sampled the grouper which was juicy and flavorful. But honey my "salad" (I use quotes because it deserves a far better title) was so huge and delicious and perfect. It had cucumber, sliced almonds, cranberries, tomato, avocado and I chose the house ranch. Sitting on top was the best fried catfish aside from my own and my mother's...I was in seventh heaven. I won't give a 5 for a perfect meal because I'll need to continue my flavor cruise before I fall all the way in love. I'm definitely recommending and returning soon. read more

Fried Oysters should not be so crisp they look and taste burned. And gulf oysters should be at least as big as the hush puppies. Server was prompt and polite. The manager was as nice but clearly doesn't care to work here. He said "I don't check the orders." read more

My husband and brother-in-law love it here. We usually come on Sunday for their 75 cents oyster. However, you need to come early. Wait too late and they will be gone. They like their other food too. Plenty of grilled and fried food to choose from. Portions are big and prices are reasonable. I have had both grilled and fried entrees. They are good but not exceptional. You can substitute most sides. There are a few non-fried sides to choose from. I had substituted my coleslaw for salads and my salad was huge! Employees are friendly. Atmosphere is casual and there are plenty of seatings. There is a nice patio outside next to the lake where people often eat and fish in the summer. There are fishing pole holders on the railings so you can fish while you eat. I have seen many catch big catfish. Nice place with a nice view for dinner with family and friends. read more

This spot has an amazing view and sitting outside on the water was great! The crawfish chowder gets 1 star for the amount and size of the crawfish in it. Because it didn't have any seasoning and all of the veggies were chopped entirety too big. The fish and shrimp were good and fresh! Loved that!!! The lake trash cake was exactly that, "TRASH!" Take it off the menu, please!!! The food came out in a timely manner and it's not overpriced. read more

This place has great food best catfish and shrimp I ever had!!!! The views are beautiful and relaxing too . The Texas heat is fierce this year so even though the patio is covered it was to hot to eat out there but after we ate we took our drinks out and enjoyed the views for a while . My only negative is the oysters on the half shell were very small and VERY expensive which may be because it's not really oyster season. Over all great place awesome food we will definitely be back very soon!!! read more

We love their Mango Margarita and service!! Food was blasé. I have tried so many mango Margarita's and none have tasted good until theirs!!!! Seriously!!! DH even dislikes others and loves Flying Fish's!!! I asked for the tango stics which is complimentary!! Wow!!! Lady working the cashier was so polite, patient and welcoming!!! Good job Flying Fish on your service. We told her it was our first time and our food preferences ( friday no meat ) and she was absolutely so sweet and accommodating!! We wanted a seat by the window unfortunately it had any customers dirty dishes that a previous customer left but waitress was so sweet and upon request removed and cleaned booth to accommodate us.. DH and I will be back to have a drink on the patio with their delectable Mango Margarita!!! read more
This place was just ok. It's new, so hoping they have worked out the missteps by now... The jambalaya was spicy! I totally dug it. The trout almandine was good. The fish was pretty thin but it was cooked nicely. The side of boracho beans was very good :)' The lobster stew came out ICE COLD, we complained about that. The manager was very cool about it, made me a new one no questions ask that was HOT. It was pretty good. Like to try some other dishes in the future. Will return. read more
I've been to a few locations and this definitely has a wonderful locale to visit! Parking isnt the best and you know I've never been upset with it because you get to walk and hear some live music, see some doggos, people watch, and see the art structures that are sprinkled around the area. They have inside seating and a nice patio right on the water which makes it that much better especially eating fishy food! You can look out while you crack some crab or enjoy your fish and pretend you aren't in metropolis. The shrimp I've had is cooked spot on, crab legs are yummo, fish is equally good... Honestly haven't had anything yet that I've said I wouldn't get again. They do "spice" a little light imo, it's more of a flick of the wrist over the top of your dish rather than boiled in but you can ask for spice as they are super accommodating. I wish they would add the flavored margaritas to the menus *** I eyeballed one at another table and asked and that's how I discovered they had flavored ones. I'm a lightweight and the large margaritas is plenty for me lol they are so good!! Ask for mango or strawberry! I'll add the young man who cleans the patio is just the sweetest EVER!! I wish I got his name.. He will stop and chat with you and I watched him proactively get a sweet panting doggie a bowl of water while asking before placing it down. Heart of gold this young man has Don't skip the desserts btw I've tried those too... The key lime sheesh that's good stuff... Get it you won't regret it! read more

I really had high hopes for this place but unfortunately the food was disappointing. Today was my second visit to this Flying Fish location. I ordered the catfish po' boy the first time I came a few months ago. It was mediocre and unremarkable. On this 2nd visit I ordered the jambalaya and a side salad. I think it is overpriced for what you get. Their version of jambalaya tasted like a can of tomato soup with a few Cajun spices and okra/green peppers/tomato served over a bed of white rice. There was literally 2 small pieces of shrimp on my plate with a few strands of shredded chicken. Yes, strands! The dish itself was lukewarm and the hot food should be served hot (not warm or room temp). The restaurant is situated in the the Cypress Waters development with a nice patio and lake views. Even though I work nearby, I will try other lunch spots in the area that offer better tasting food and more value for the buck. read more

Good food, great service! I wandered into this part of town thinking I was headed for a burger, but changed course when I saw an option for some decent river- and seafood. I'm glad I detoured! I walked in and up to the counter where I was warmly greeted by a young man. Telling him it was my first visit and what I wanted, he suggested an oyster basket with a catfish filet on the side. My pager went off relatively quickly, and there I was, staring at a basket of 8-10 fairly large lightly cornmeal-breaded oysters and a decent sized catfish filet. The meal came with fries and two hushpuppies in the side, and I dove in with great enthusiasm. The oysters were delightful, and the catfish every bit as good as if I'd cooked it at home in middle Tennessee, where we know a few things about catfish. I was just about done with my meal and thinking about a piece of Key lime Pie when the young man who took my order came by with a bowl of gumbo. "Since it's your first time here," he said "enjoy this bowl of gumbo on the house." The gumbo may be the most authentic item on the menu, and obviously comes from the hands of someone who knows how to make a proper roux. It was thick, rich, & delicious. Other things to note: Wednesday's are "All you can eat catfish" for $17.95. You can bring in your old Billy the Singing Bass wall trophy and they'll add it to their collection. They've got a decent selection of Texas craft beer by the bottle & can, as well as your standard semi-domestic draft offerings (Miller Lite, Shiner Bock, Blue Moon, & Modelo). On the whole, it was a delightfully surprising and enjoyable experience. Give it a shot when you're thinking about a goat burger but decide to take a left turn. read more

My wife and I switched to a Ketogenic diet in August 2020. The pandemic allowed us to be very careful in our food choices. In the months to follow, I researched restaurants which would be capable of satisfying those on Keto and Flying Fish was one of the first I found. Having been fully vaccinated, my wife and I made a visit to the Flying Fish on Wharf Road (Cypruss Waters) and were completely satisfied. The seafood was fresh, deliciously prepared. My wife had grilled snapper (snappy) and extra grilled veggies (no rice & beans). I had the protein platter with grilled snapper (extra snappy), dozen oysters, and grilled veggies. We also had a dozen boiled shrimp. The oysters...the best I have ever tasted. Having lived on the Texas Coast, I am very familiar with oysters, particularly the ones that need a bit more Tabasco or cocktail/horseradish to consume. My wife even ate three for the first time ever and was surprised by how enjoyable they were. I figure the oysters are farmed, but I am ok with that. It was such a nice surprise tasting the freshness. The snapper was well-prepared. I like lots of seasoning and had my fish prepared extra-snappy. I think next time I will order the fish snappy because my wife's filet looked even better than mine. The dozen boiled shrimp were perfectly prepared and served on a bed of ice with cocktail sauce. The patio is on the east side of the building facing the lake, so it will always be in the shade in the late afternoon. Outside seating is wonderful and relaxing. Before you go to Flying Fish, go to their website and sign up for their club in order to receive email coupons. A parking garage (free) is nearby along with street parking. We are looking forward to our next visit. Go there today! read more
