While waiting at the BWI airport for a layover, my friends and I decided to grab a bite to eat at Flying Dog Tap House. Thankfully, it wasn't crowded at all so we were seated right away! The restaurant was very clean and spacious, which helped due to all of our carry-on luggage. We started with drinks and I decided on the Sparkling Guava Margarita which was pretty good but not very strong. I also ordered the Double Dog Hot Wings and a side of Onion Rings. The wings were actually very good! I never have super high expectations for airport food, but they were seasoned perfectly with the right amount of sauce! My friends ordered the Crabby Waffle Fries but the best part was the Old Bay Crab-Cheddar Dip! It was delicious! Since we had a long layover, our waiter was very pleasant and allowed for us to hang out in the restaurant. She kept checking to make sure we didn't need anything which I thought was very thoughtful! The only taproom at BWI that I know of for a brewery. They have a decent selection of Flying Dog beers and cocktails. Been here twice and once nearly four years ago and another time a several weeks ago. They have a great bloody mary I had the first time and another apple pie beer I had the second time. The fries had a generous topping of crab and cheddar cheese, though the cheese slightly overpowered the crab flavor and made the dish a bit saltier than expected. I couldn't decide on which beer to have with my dinner and both servers were kind enough to bring me samples to taste, so I could find the "right one". I've been through this airport too many times to count and always wanted to stop in. The Boss burger was great. I got it medium rare, which I recommend because it tastes better AND the beef is lean, so any other way would be too dry. The mac and cheese substitution seriously hit the spot. I have had Flying Dog beers many years ago but recently I decided it was time to revisit this brewery's beers again. Steve and I had just one, the Snake Dog IPA. All in all it was a fairly solid IPA. It wasn't "too out there" but wasn't underwhelming either. This was a brewery that's been around since the early 1990's and all I can say is that the beer tastes like that period of time, before breweries exploded everywhere and every place , going in all kinds of directions with their beer recipes. And now the great shrinkage and brewery mergers happening now in post covid pandemic times is ushering in a new (but not necessarily exciting or good) era and history for craft beer. But more back to the beer experience, flavor features to look for in this beer are hoppy, sweet, strong and malty. Had a layover at Baltimore airport and decided to stop in. First off the place is cute , decent size. The place got crowded pretty fast. The waitress took our orders in a timely manner. I ordered the chicken salad wrap and my husband ordered a beer. My food came before his beer which seemed strange bc how can pouring a beer become faster than food being made. So we reminded the waitress in case she forgot about his beer. She rudely replied It's coming! We were shocked bc he didn't have an attitude when he said it, but she did. So we just said ok. I looked at the bar and noticed there was one little old lady, making all the drinks at the bar. And there was our waitress an older lady and one younger girl waiting the tables. So then we realize what the problem was . Then about 6 minutes later she threw him a few napkins and placed his beer on the table. Met by a hostess and sat immediately. The waitress greeted us with menus. They have an item on the menu that "hasn't been served for 5 years". But they have plenty of options. I like some of the local specialties like, crab dip and aioli on fries. I wish I could. But for now, salad. I did get the Cobb salad. So it still has some extras. It was really good. Fresh. My wife called me crying. is traveling to see her father who has cancer. She has our 1.5 yr old son. She asked for a table in the corner to be away from everyone. Our waitress Sam told us what was good and we were not disappointed. The steak sandwich was great, my brothers burger looked fabulous. My sister had the pretzels with crab dip. All good. Our big problem was how slow the service was. I took my first international flight from BWI on Wednesday and came to the airport two hours earlier as recommended. There were absolutely no lines, so we had over an hour and thirty minutes to blow before our flight took off, so we settled in a Flying Dog for a little breakfast. The restaurant is working from a limited menu, I am guessing this is because of Covid. Your drinks are poured into plastic cups, you are provided plastic utensils and the food is served on paper plates. The condiments are single, one-time use, again, all of these options I am sure are a result of Covid. My meal was named "Momma Made the Breakfast with No Hog", after the popular Ice Cube song. Another 2-3 hour layover at BWI?? Hungry?? That means you've got a FINE opportunity to try this tempting option in the Southwest Terminal... Don't plan on getting in and out of here too quickly, not because the service is slow, but because you'll want to linger as long as possible to savor their surprisingly good elevated "comfort food" and brews. I fly SW and pass through BWI often, but usually go for the fast food options, but with extra time to kill, Flying Dog was a great choice!! Their menu might be a bit limited still, due to COVID, but there were still plenty of tempting choices for dinner when we were there late May, and we took a bit of a while trying to decide what to order. I enjoyed a spinach salad and the Mr. had a great looking burger with waffle fries. I had a cider (sorry, can't remember which any more, but it was GOOD!!) and he chose an equally satisfying IPA. Ok I will start by stating that this is a review of an airport restaurant so I take that with a grain of salt. After that being said there were a couple of goods and a couple of bads with my visit here. The goods are that the food was pretty tasty as I had a bacon cheeseburger with a pickled pepper and delicious barbecue sauce. As I watched the food coming out of the prep area it seems that the burgers are pretty popular. I also liked the decor and the southern barbecue feel to the place with merch to boot. Now a couple of tough moments. When I walked up I wanted to be seated by myself and it took about 20 minutes waiting to be seated without eye contact or a hello one single time. Then when they got around to it, it was very impersonal. Second is the overall experience with service that really is tough in that "turn and burn" kind of eatery but at least engage in a conversation or make it a little more personable when serving folks.
