This is a small take out vegan spot in Brooklyn close to Glen burnie and Baltimore. It's in the chefs home. I was happy to hear that a vegan place was so close. I was greeted by the chef herself and she helped me make a decision. I had the southwest bowl. I had asked about other items and mentioned I did not like spicy food. However, this dish was very spicy. So much so that I didn't finish it. From what I tasted it seemed flavorful but just too spicy for me. The following day I decided to give it another go. I tried to place an order on Grubhub. My order was cancelled with no explanation. After calling and calling the store to find out why, I was told that two of the items were unavailable. I was disappointed that I didn't get a call to ask if I wanted a replacement (which I would've ordered something else) and instead she just canceled my entire order. If I hadn't checked my email while waiting to pick up I would've driven there for nothing. I ended up just ordering the mini "crab cake sliders". They were not bad. I think a little old bay would've made them just right. All in all I'd probably try again.

Taco Salad! Fresh and full of spice!

AMAZING! Fresh, flavorful and delicious. I have ate every vegan cookie I have seen over the past 5 years and I must say this is the best I have ever had!

The food was absolutely amazing and the service was great! There were a lot of options to choose from and the prices were reasonable. I will definitely be a repeat customer!

Slider city! The Chipotle Black Bean Sliders are tiny burgers of deliciousness the pickling is my fav!

I ordered the coconut curry tofu bowl and Omgosh, there are no words to express what those flavors did to my taste buds.

Oleum can best be described as vegan, chef inspired, fine dining. I was absolutely floored by how…read moregood everything was. To start with, the menu is very creative. You aren't going to find black bean burgers and cauliflower wings here (not that there is anything wrong with those). Instead, you will find small plates like Cannellini and Pan (bread with white beans) and Batata Harra (spicy Lebanese potatoes). Soups like Roasted Pumpkin. Mains like Steak, roasted veggies and Polenta in gravy. Pizzas like Meat Lovers with vegan bacon, pepperoni, sausage and spicy Italian sausage. There is plenty more dishes I just named the ones we ended up ordering. My wife started with a mocktail that included coconut and was meant to taste like a Creamsicle popsicle. Incredibly, it did. I was intrigued by a number of lattes but considering it was night and I had already reached my coffee quota for the day, I abstained. After that, we ordered and received our small plates and soup. The Cannellini and Pan was incredible. I don't know how to describe the bread. It looked like pita but it didn't taste or feel like any pita I've had before. The beans were flavorful, with a hint of spice. Speaking of spice, the Batata Harra was very spicy. Good, but definitely not for someone who can't handle spice. The soup was good but didn't really blow me away like everything else. Next came our mains, Steak and Polenta and the Meat Lovers Pizza. A lot of the pizza meats and cheeses are made in house at Oleum giving this pizza a unique taste all to itself. The crust was great, the meats were good with a hint of spiciness and the cheese was not too much and flowed with the rest of the pizza. The steak was a locally made vegan steak that cut and looked like real steak (I didn't quite have the same texture as I remember actual steak). Paired with polenta, mushrooms and Brussels and topped with gravy, this dish was incredible. To end it all, I took a carrot cake to go. Also excellent. The wait staff was incredible. Two different servers and the owner stopped at our table to check on us. Oleum is not cheap. This meal, with tip, was close to $150 dollars. But the quality and taste (and amount of leftovers) made the price more palatable. Will definitely be back!

I'm happy I got a chance to try the food at Oleum. These pics are from two visits. Upon my first…read morevisit, I ordered the kale ceasar salad and a butternut squash soup. 2nd visit was the breakfast burrito. Both times, the service was impeccable at the bar, and while being formally seated. As I'm not a vegan, I do frequent vegan places in hopes of finally transitioning, so I understand flavor profiles and what to expect/not expect. The salad dressing was a bit skimpy and the croutons were extremely hard. I asked for some honey to add to the sauciness of the dressing, which in hindsight, I should have just asked for more dressing. I've had vegan ceasar salad dressing before that somehow mimicked that anchovie-taste, which is what I expected here. For the soup, I had my mouth ready for a sweet savory taste, but instead it was salty savory which altogether changed my viewpoint on how this soup can be made. I asked for chili oil to give it a little pop. Onto the breakfast burrito - a sight to see! I'm not a breakfast burrito girl, but a friend let me taste her leftovers and I thought I HAD to have my own. At first bite, I can say it was a whole YES. My only ask was more seasoning, and to have cooked the tofu down just a bit more so it didn't give the consistency of a runny egg. I asked for sriracha, chili oil and ketchup to seal the deal. I highly suggest offering at least one of these sauces/oil as a free accoutrement, instead of charging per oz. Ambiance is always warm and inviting. The dark wood gives a homelike vibe and the music is on point. I will definitely be back for the breakfast burrito in hopes of more fun sauces on the side!

I ordered the following items on Uber Eats: - Curry Puffs - Vegan Nuggets - Salt & Pepper Tofu - Black Pepper Ban Mein w/ Thick Noodles The portion sizes for the main dishes (Salt & Pepper Tofu and Ban Mein) were generous, about 2-3 servings and shareable. Which is pretty amazing considering the Ban Mein was $10 (on Uber Eats). I made sure to try a mix of dishes that both featured and didn't include meat substitutes...I was WOW'd by all of the food! As a meat eater, the vegan beef in the Ban Mein was very well seasoned and the flavor indiscernible from real meat. I was especially shocked by how much I enjoyed the vegan nuggets. They had a slightly nutty flavor (likely due to the oil) and a great texture. The salt & pepper tofu and curry puffs were standard, but good. Overall, the food at this restaurant runs a little spicier than usual American Chinese spots. Flavors like curry and five spice came through more, and two of the dishes I ordered used fresh peppers (instead of just pepper flakes). I loved it and will be ordering again!

Presents like a typical carry out, but I like the concept with the little convenience area and I noticed an area in the back to play games, which I thought was nice. Honestly, I forgot to post the review when we picked up dinner here some time ago. I really needed to try them again. On our first visit we had the baby bok choy, Singapore noodles, the crispy eggplant, Kung Pao and curry puffs, I believe. This time I ordered the salt & pepper tofu (10/10), the bok choy (7/10) and the crispy eggplant (9/10). Now to be very honest these dishes would have been even better if we had eaten there, because the fried items would've retained their crispiness, but everything was still good. I've been thinking about the salt & pepper tofu. May even grab it again this week. It was just that good. I definitely recommend you try this place if ever in the area... I'll be visiting again soon.

Unfortunately, I don't think that this was a great showcase of the restaurants abilities. For food, I had the Caesar salad to start, which I can honestly say was a decent caesar, nothing to write home about, but no complaints either - think your basic Caesar. For my main I had the crabcake entrée and to be honest it was just not good. The crabcake was beyond dry and the coleslaw and fries were fine but that that's not what I came for. I do have to say that dessert was great, the carrot cake was without any complaints. The only other thing that I had was the seasonal martini on the drink menu and it was so bad that I couldn't take more than one sip. Other people did like their food, but we all left saying that it was not a great meal. In discussing service, the service itself was good. Our waitress was attentive, but kept jumping into our conversation and wasn't dressed totally appropriately for wait staff in my opinion, she was very attentive though. Ambience is interesting here - it feels as though it has no ambience almost. It's just like a bunch of tables in an outdated restaurant with minimal decor. Overall, I will probably not be coming back to Sobo and can't say that I would recommend others do so.

I was disappointed because I was nervous to try a new dish that they had just added the same week (no time to get feedback and perfect the dish). I ended up with chicken, brussel sprouts, and potatoes from the keto menu to be safe on the flavors. That did not exactly pan out for me, as the chicken was tremendously dry and overcooked. I did not send it back because I was already starving, but I did not enjoy that particular meal. The potatoes and brussels were tasty though With that, our service was efficient and the restaurant is a nice vibe as always.

I also ordered the pomegranate martini and it was absolutely amazing. It had the perfect balance of sweet without being overwhelming, especially if you're someone who doesn't love super strong drinks. It was refreshing and paired really well with the meal. With all the competition in the area, we don't find ourselves coming here quite as much. Their drunken noodles are not as flavorful as the competition and often come out gummy. That said, the Tom Yum fried rice is still killer, and if we stick to our favorites they will give any competition a run for their money. The real reason for the loss of a star is the patchy service. We gave up eating there in person years ago and now focus on carryout. Typically we show up at the time our online order tells us to, but more often than not, the food isn't ready. Not the end of the world, we usually just go for a walk around the block and by the time we are done with that, it's ready. What drives me crazy though is that on a recent visit, while we were walking, we get a text that our order is ready, we come back and it STILL isn't done, we have to keep waiting. TLDR; sometimes the food can be slow to come out and the information about when the food will be ready isn't always accurate.

A friend and I were seated quickly, and provided menus. I knew I wanted mango lassi and ordered that. We decided to split beef samosas and garlic naan. I went with a veggie saag dish but asked for it extra spicy. The mango lassi was amazing, it was hard to stop myself from chugging it. The beef samosas were well made, perfectly flaky, however, I realized in that moment I prefer veggie samosas. The entrees arrived and my dish smelled amazing. I tried my best to spoon rice onto my plate, but the rice was oddly stacked high on a plate and would just tumble down like an avalanche. I prefer my rice in a bowl. So, my saag dish, while well prepared and was hot, was lacking flavor to me due to the spice used to provide the heat I wanted. And that's on me. I realized this meal that I should get maybe medium spice at most, then ask for whatever their version of "hots" is on the side. Overall, it was a very pleasant visit. Service was amazing. I just made bad choices, which is not Little India's fault.

That first night after the drive was an entire vibe. Their espresso martini--made with almond milk, I believe--was different in the best way and so, so good. The food? Don't even get me started. The Bang Bang Shrimp, Cheezesteak Eggrolls, Elote Street Corn, and Maple Brussels Sprouts were all hits. Every single one. We loved it so much that we decided not to rush back to NYC and make a full weekend out of it. One of the owners personally recommended ROOST Baltimore Pennisula, a nearby apartment-style hotel, and wow--beyond awesome. Truly the perfect suggestion. We came back to Bar Vegan for brunch, and somehow the experience was even better than the night before. Our server, Shavone, was phenomenal--attentive, kind, warm, and just an absolute joy. We also got to meet some of the kitchen staff preparing our food, and I made sure to give them their flowers because listen... I am not vegan, and I loved everything. The omelette, sausage, shrimp and grits, chopped salad, French toast, and fresh-squeezed juices were all superb. Before heading back to NYC, we stopped in one final time that evening--and once again, they did not miss. The oxtails and jollof rice, Brussels sprouts, corn, and potstickers were straight fire. I truly wish nothing but continued success and growth for this place. Bar Vegan deserves all the love, all the recognition, and all the thriving. We came as visitors and left as fans for life.
