Expensive but their fufu and egusi is delicious! The only they need to work on is availability when you call.

The pounded yam was smooth and not too thick. I had fun scooping up the Egusi in the Fufu with my hands. Both together was an enjoyable flavor and texture combo. The Beef Suya was good as well, a nice meat appetizer. The beef was cooked well done which some people may not like, but I enjoyed it since I grew up eating my steak that way. It paired very well with the spice blend and raw onions. I also had the Ghanaian Jollof Rice and that was not my most favorite dish due to the flavor. Not my cup of tea, but the rice was cooked well. I also liked the side plantains. The interior is nicely ornate and comfy. The service here was also super great and my assigned server was very personable. I genuinely enjoyed my conversation with her and she did well giving me recommendations and directions as a first timer for this type of food. Overall, I had a great experience here and would come back again!

Setting / Service: We had came in about 10-15 minutes after they had just opened, so it felt like we were the first customers by the way the wait staff was missing. The host had told us sit at any table and we would have a staff member come swing by. We waited about 5-10 minutes before our waitress had came by and asked us if we were ready to order. Mind you - we were not given a food menu or told about the QR code that looked like it was barely hanging on the table beforehand. Food order took a little longer than expected. Table that was sat after us got their full lunch order before our soup came out. Felt little weird about that. The occasional check-ins from the waitress was welcomed. Food: Hunter's Platter was a overcooked or charred. The beef was well done at minimum. Some of the other meat pieces that contained bone were so overcooked that it was tougher than jerky and the bones themselves began to break off into sharp ends / mistaken as meat due to how brittle they became. For it to be priced at 'Market Value' and not have a actual charge was a bit odd to me. It came out to be near $60 for those wondering. Sweet potato soup with plantain fufu was good. We had ordered the mixed meat version, but it only contain one piece of each meat. It was borderline room temp by the time it got to our table. We had also ordered a few other items that were pretty enjoyable. Pleasant additions to a couple first timers who wanted to taste the menu. Overall: I'd say that the experience here was pretty okay to the point we had gotten the meal tab. It was a bit peculiar that our waitress had dropped off the credit card machine to the table for us after handing her my card. It was then I noticed on the machine "Additional Tip". Puzzled, I looked back at the check and noticed she had applied auto-gratuity. Yes, I would have given a tip. I would have given more than the auto applied tip, but it was context that made the entire situation foul. She applied auto tip, dropped the machine off, and just 'disappeared' until we left the table at which she muttered words as she walked past us while looking down to the floor.

It was my first time having shito. The Jollof wasn't my favorite, unfortunately, but it finally settled the debate for me once and for all - I'm team Nigerian when it comes to Jollof. Although the Efo Riro was nicely flavored, the mix of collard greens did not compliment this dish as I thought it would. I prefer it with spinach and from my Nigerian food connect (Mina's Jollof in LA). Hers can't be beaten! Black Eye Peas were unique, and the plantains were cooked nicely. Now for the ambiance: We were one of two tables during the day, so having the place for ourselves felt nice. It also looked tidy. Our waitress was a sweetheart. I forgot her name, but she was attentive. Would I return? Perhaps when revisiting ATL. Overall: The experience was enjoyable!

I went in and he had already gotten us a table. Our server came over pretty quickly and took our drink orders. I wanted to taste some authentic African beer. My friend suggested an Orijin or a Trophy Premium Lager beer. I ordered the Trophy Lager and my friend ordered the Orijin. I later found out his drink was not an actual beer, but some kind of mixture of alcohol flavored with African herbs and fruits. We took a small taste of each other's drinks. Mine tasted like a standard lager, really. We reviewed the menu and I described what I had a taste for. My friend suggested that I get the Jollof Rice with Chicken, and that's what I ordered. He ordered the Pounded Yam with Egusi soup. My food came out quickly. My friend's order took longer than expected, but he told me to go ahead and start eating, so I did not wait. The food was very good, well seasoned, and had a nice spice kick. My friend's dish came out about 15 minutes later. It must have been a specialty item since it took so long. Once it arrived, he enjoyed it, even though I think he had ordered it before. The restaurant was a little empty, with just a few other patrons inside. While we enjoyed lunch, we listened to some good, authentic Afrobeats music in the background. I even Shazamed a couple of songs while we were sitting there. They also had an area set up with an Instagramable photo wall and a DJ booth. The restaurant itself was very clean and they also had a full bar. I will definitely come back to try some other authentic menu options.

Very dark and not many traditional tables and chairs. I came around lunch time and there were quite a few ladies in beautiful traditional dress (it was Christmas Eve). I had called ahead and ordered takeout and when I walked in I was promptly acknowledged. Food arrived in the quoted time (25 minutes). Nigerian cuisine is not one I'm incredibly familiar with, but I have tried many of the standard dishes. Today I went with White Rice and Red Stew, which comes with plantains. It was delicious. Piping hot and incredibly fresh. The spice level was perfect. Just spicy enough but in no way overpowering. The plantains added a sweet element which played beautifully against the spice of the stew. The only place they lost points was the price on the website is not the price I was charged. $19 on the website and I was charged $25 but maybe they just haven't updated to reflect current prices. Regardless, I really enjoyed my food and can't wait to go back and try some other dishes. Edit: Take note, it doesn't say "The Island Grill" on the sign. It says "The African Grill."

They came with steak fries, which i'm usually not the biggest fan of, but they were fried crispy so I didn't mind them. The jollof rice also tasted good on it's own - not the best Naija jollof I've had (not spicy), but solid for a restaurant/bar. Our server was really sweet as well. Even though they're open for dinner hours, it's definitely mainly a bar/lounge based on the size and setup. I will warn - if hookah is not your thing, this isn't the place for you. Since it's pretty small in there, there's nowhere to really get away from the smoke or people who are smoking. I'd go back for dinner, but would make sure I'm out before ~11pm, which is when it seems to pick up in traffic and smoke.

I can't speak to how the service is on a busy night but I haven't had any problems on the days that I've gone. Some menu items are served on select days which is a bummer but other than that, me and my friends have always been satisfied with the food. I've had their shrimp tacos, asun (peppered goat) and jollof which are delicious. My friend has also ordered their kpomo and had no complaints. I've been to a few African restaurants and this is by far my favorite. The food here is so flavorful compared to others OTP. My only con is that the music is very loud even when there's hardly anyone in the restaurant. I wished they'd turn the music down but I guess that is the culture here in Atlanta. Definitely give this a place a try, you won't regret it!
