Interior is confusingly fancy and also really casual. Totally empty other than us and one person who came in for takeout.
    Jowi E.

Came here for the first time today and I was really thrown off by this place. We walked up and the owner(?) chef(?) was standing out front smoking and the restaurant was 100% empty inside even though it was 6pm so we stood around for a second feeling confused until the guy walked in and showed us to a table. The interior decor was excessively fancy in a sort of neglected way; chandeliers, carved wood doors, marble walls, pillars, etc except the sugar packet holders were sort of smashed lazily into place, the chef guy was wearing a sweatshirt and jeans, and only half of the restaurant's lights were on even though they were open. Don't get me wrong, I love a casual mom and pop restaurant, but the combination of these things threw me off. The menu could've had more explanation on some things (I've never had Senegalese food so I was unfamiliar with some terminology) and was sticky. Despite all this I was hopeful about the food, but we ordered and once the chef went back into the kitchen I started hearing microwave noises (he'd left the door to the kitchen open). It was kind of off-putting to know that my food wasn't being made fresh. Nevertheless when the food got to us it smelled good. My boyfriend loved what he got, some sort of lamb and grain dish with a side of roasted onion sauce and a side of this VERY spicy red pepper condiment. My dish (a fish thing with grains and a nice sauce) was pretty good too, no complaints but I was already so thrown off and uncomfortable about everything else that I struggled to enjoy it. The sauce that the fish was in was lovely I will say. Overall I'm not sure if I would go back honestly. The food wasn't bad by any means, but it certainly wasn't good enough to make me excited about going back, especially with how weird the rest f the experience was. Tl;dr: Decent food, confusing staff and atmosphere.

Yassa fish with onion sauce over rice to go. Very tasty.

The atmosphere is nice. The staff friendly. The items on the menu could use some more description. The yassa fish is a whole fish prepared with a spice rub and onions very tasty. Good for one maybe two with some thing else small. Staff did not know how to deal with a yelp checkin coupon.

Went there one afternoon to try Senegalese food. Ambiance is casual, customer service was great. It was authentic food, portion was large and price was reasonable.

Crooked people. The price on the menu is different from what you are asked to pay. The restrooms are dirty.

The young lady at the counter was pleasant and patiently explained the menu items. I believe her name was Yama (sp?). I decided to try the tilapia with Attiéké, my aunt had the red snapper and couscous, which was also tasty, but mine was the showstopper!!! I really wanted to try the jolloff rice, but they were out... maybe next time. Anyway, it's a small spot, but welcoming. The food is cooked fresh! It was late, but I wanted to eat right then and there, so we dined in. The tilapia was like nothing I'd ever eaten, seasoned to perfection and it was fried, but also tasted grilled! What?!? It was so delightfully confusing!!! So meaty and fresh, not one piece of meat was going to waste, not even by the head! The Attiéké by itself, kinda bitter, but I mixed with the onion sauce and omg, Wow! That onion sauce is like none other, you have to try it to understand! It's unbelievably good-- a sauce of onions with onion chunks! I'm so glad I tried it! The gentleman that cooked it-- that man knows his way around a kitchen! I believe his name is Moda (sp?) and he's kind too! I'd definitely visit again!

It was my first time having shito. The Jollof wasn't my favorite, unfortunately, but it finally settled the debate for me once and for all - I'm team Nigerian when it comes to Jollof. Although the Efo Riro was nicely flavored, the mix of collard greens did not compliment this dish as I thought it would. I prefer it with spinach and from my Nigerian food connect (Mina's Jollof in LA). Hers can't be beaten! Black Eye Peas were unique, and the plantains were cooked nicely. Now for the ambiance: We were one of two tables during the day, so having the place for ourselves felt nice. It also looked tidy. Our waitress was a sweetheart. The pounded yam was smooth and not too thick. I had fun scooping up the Egusi in the Fufu with my hands. Both together was an enjoyable flavor and texture combo. The Beef Suya was good as well, a nice meat appetizer. The beef was cooked well done which some people may not like, but I enjoyed it since I grew up eating my steak that way. It paired very well with the spice blend and raw onions. I also had the Ghanaian Jollof Rice and that was not my most favorite dish due to the flavor. Not my cup of tea, but the rice was cooked well. I also liked the side plantains. The interior is nicely ornate and comfy. The service here was also super great and my assigned server was very personable. Setting / Service: We had came in about 10-15 minutes after they had just opened, so it felt like we were the first customers by the way the wait staff was missing. The host had told us sit at any table and we would have a staff member come swing by. We waited about 5-10 minutes before our waitress had came by and asked us if we were ready to order. Mind you - we were not given a food menu or told about the QR code that looked like it was barely hanging on the table beforehand. Food order took a little longer than expected. Table that was sat after us got their full lunch order before our soup came out. Felt little weird about that. The occasional check-ins from the waitress was welcomed. Food: Hunter's Platter was a overcooked or charred. The beef was well done at minimum. Some of the other meat pieces that contained bone were so overcooked that it was tougher than jerky and the bones themselves began to break off into sharp ends / mistaken as meat due to how brittle they became. For it to be priced at 'Market Value' and not have a actual charge was a bit odd to me. It came out to be near $60 for those wondering. Sweet potato soup with plantain fufu was good. We had ordered the mixed meat version, but it only contain one piece of each meat. It was borderline room temp by the time it got to our table. We had also ordered a few other items that were pretty enjoyable. Pleasant additions to a couple first timers who wanted to taste the menu. Overall: I'd say that the experience here was pretty okay to the point we had gotten the meal tab. It was a bit peculiar that our waitress had dropped off the credit card machine to the table for us after handing her my card. It was then I noticed on the machine "Additional Tip". Puzzled, I looked back at the check and noticed she had applied auto-gratuity. Yes, I would have given a tip. I would have given more than the auto applied tip, but it was context that made the entire situation foul. She applied auto tip, dropped the machine off, and just 'disappeared' until we left the table at which she muttered words as she walked past us while looking down to the floor.

My order might arrive half missing... you never know! If I do Uber Eats, I always have at least 1 driver cancel because the wait is so long, even at odd hours when they cant possibly be that busy. And then the second driver complains about their wait as well. I stress... the food is really good. The wings are fantastic. Even the jollof is good (try the onion sauce.) The portions are generous and that is why it pains me so much that the service is just so flawed. Today I called in a meal for a homeless gentleman who lives outside my building, to pick up for him on my way home. When I arrived 45 minutes later, I learnef that the call was answered by an employee who wasn't physically at the restaurant... and she never called it in. Then after another 30 minute wait, I am told that part of my order is now sold out and unavailable. When my mom asked for a replacement of fries, and if they could be complimentary (considering we'd been waiting over an hour due to their mistake) the response from Omar at the counter was snarky, condescending and mocking to her. I'd rather drive 30 mins all the way down Campbelton Rd. for better jollof and lamb from my fave Senegalese spot than deal with these antics, truly. Too many restaurants are struggling right now for me to be directing my little bit of PUA assistance toward restaurants that refuse to be reliable. :/

The best part of the meal was probably the seasonings they have sitting on the side of the counter where you order. I do not really know who works there. First there was a lady, then there was this kid, but the kid was sitting in the lounge when I first walked in and stood there for about 5 minutes at the bar before the lady in the back who was having a conversation with the lady who makes the food I guess came from behind and walked around to the register. Their menu has absolutely no pricing. I had the peanut butter soup, which was good, but a little disappointing because the majority of the meat was nothing but fat, and there was not that much meat in it honestly. The potato that was in it literally looked like that had just cut it in two and threw it in the soup. It was good, and not that bad portion wise, but if I had known it was almost $20 I probably would have gotten something else. I was hoping to try the hookah while I waited, but evidently all of the hookahs were in need of maintenance, so that was a bust. Would like to go back in the future, maybe when they have a crowd of people or something, but overall I was disappointed.
