We were in the area and craving ice cream, and this was the only spot nearby. The place has a classic, old-school feel from the wall-mounted kiosk menus to the simple decor. They offer a small selection of milkshake flavors, and I went with the mint chocolate chip. Watching it being made through the cashier window, I could see it was blended with real milk. The flavor itself was solid and clearly tasted like mint chocolate chip, with small mint pieces throughout. The only downside was the texture. It was a bit thinner than a traditional milkshake and leaned more toward soft-serve consistency. Even so, I'd order it again. A large was about $9 at the time of this review. If you're in the area and want a cold milkshake, this place will definitely do the job. read more

Perfect post hike treat! We stopped by for a swirled soft-serve cone, and it was so good that we came back the next day for a root beer float. Both hit the spot after a day outdoors. Its a tiny hole in the wall and one of the only worthwhile places to eat near mc cloud falls so dont miss it. Mr. Floyd welcomes u himself and the staff is friendly. Lots of parking in the same square and though the lines look long when u get in, they are serviced quickly so average wait time is less than 15 mins which is not bad. If u are really hungry then order a shake/ drink/ ice cream as well and it comes to u as u are getting billed. We're not usually Burger eaters, but when we do have them we like them to be memorable (in a good way). So, feeling adventurous, we thought it'd be fun to stop in to a local joint and try one. We got the elk burger and the Patty melt. Since I ordered off the plastic menu I didn't see the prices and was shocked at the $36 bill. The Patty melt was a single beef patty between 2 two slices of rye with melted cheese. No lettuce or tomato. Very greasy. I'm not saying it wasn't tasty but I don't know how they can charge $15 for that. The elk burger was ok, but nothing special at $19. The fries that came with it were generous and ok. I probably won't go back but if I did I'd order a regular burger. IMHO the deluxe burgers were not worth the price. read more

Floyd's was the only option opened for us when we got to McCloud on a Wednesday afternoon. The menu looked like your old fashioned burger joint, so we were pretty excited for it. The food was great. It was good quality and cooked very well. I got the Elk Burger with fries. It was a bit pricier than I anticipated ($20), but I guess that comes with the territory as McCloud is very far and a bit secluded. We also got the hamburger and onion rings. The burger was also delicious, and Onion Ring was cooked perfectly. The downside was that it was about $8. It only came with 6 onion rings. I would also recommend getting a milkshake. They have a lot of combinations you can choose from to personalize to your liking. read more

First of all, personable and friendly service by both the gentleman at the counter and the employees who delivered the food to our table. This is a small, casual eatery with booths that can seat less than 20 people, I'm guessing. But, there is also outside seating so that's a bonus. The Mixed Berry Milkshake was excellent. My husband had a chocolate-banana malt that he really enjoyed. We also shared any order of tater tots that hit the spot. McCloud is a very small town. While I was there, I was looking for a casual place to have some lunch, and there is not really much to choose from. It's a simple little cafe, where you order from the counter and then they cook your food. I ordered the cheeseburger, which goes for $7.95. I thought it was a solid hamburger, as it had quite a bit of meat inside. The food here seems to be fine, but realistically, I didn't think there was anything special about it. read more

I just returned from a camping trip at McArthur-Burney Memorial State Park in sub-freezing nightly temperatures. So, to reward myself for 'roughing it,' I took a drive along the breathtakingly beautiful Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway (State Highway 89) from the park to the picturesque small town of McCloud. While in McCloud, I stopped by Floyd's Frosty. Wow. Just....wow. This is a fantastic burger/ice cream/milkshake joint that serves up all of the goodness you want after a week of camping, hiking, skiing, sledding or snow boarding. The food is absolutely delicious and the outdoor seating provides a "billion dollar view" of Mt. Shasta. The food is cooked the old fashioned way -- with good ingredients and a good cook on a good grill. My double cheeseburger was fantastic. The mozzarella sticks were probably the best that I've ever tasted -- with fantastic batter (completely unlike those you buy at a grocery or big box store). The fries were nice and crispy too! The staff is very friendly and patient when you're ordering. They want to get your burger or sandwiches correct. What is correct? The way you want it! A guy working on the soda fountain struck up a conversation with us -- and he was genuinely interested in our experiences that week (and offered some friendly thoughts about the snow season and potential things for our next trip in the area). I didn't order a milkshake or ice cream. However, someone ordered FOUR different milkshakes while we were eating. As someone who worked at an ice cream shop while I was still a teenager, I could "hear" the sound of real milkshakes made correctly. If it wasn't so cold outside (and I wasn't so incredibly full), I probably would have ordered one to go. The only thing that was disappointing here is the realization that I cannot find a burger spot like this in the Silicon Valley. The Bay Area is filled with upscale burger spots; however, they just lack that sense of made-in-the-real-world feel (and taste) that you find in a place like Floyd's Frosty. Those working were very friendly and helpful and the food was fresh and delicious. They had plenty of choices on the menu including elk burgers! Visited McCloud falls and forgot to pack lunch so we decided to stop by and to our surprise Floyd's Frosty was only about a 10 minute drive. Super glad we stopped by! Ordered the bacon cheeseburger with jalapeños and some large fries. The large was more than enough for 2 people to share. It was super crispy and reminded me of Belgian fries. The burger was also super good. The toasted buns were really Soft. I think it's made fresh since they were pillowy soft . The best part of the meal was the vanilla , banana & Oreo shake . It was super creamy and flavorful . Loved the chunks of fresh banana inside. Although they ran out of peanut butter, the shake was still delicious. The restaurant is a ma/ pa shop ! We heard they make a good elk burger so we decided to try it. I got the elk burger with fries and my husband got the double bacon cheeseburger and tots on the side. Everything was fresh and delicious and cooked perfectly. The only thing that could have been better were the tots. It was a small basket for 5.50 and they were decent but the fries were wayyyy better. Super crispy and yummy. The elk burger was cooked perfectly with no gamey taste. Nothing good to say at all Terrible sense of hospitality Had a POS but didn't take cash He told me after serving the ice cream cone that we ordered, so then I was trapped and had to walk down the street to an ATM the chicken strip basket came out in a bag even though we said we would eat there. The vibe was cold (no heat), so we left. Driving down the road, we reach in to find a chicken patties cut into 7 little pieces. That's our chicken strips basket for $15. The fries were decent.
