I visited to place a takeout order of jollof rice and pepper goat soup. Pepper Goat soup can be spicy, but they did ask me me how spicy I wanted it. If you've never had goat soup I would compare it to oxtail soup. Oxtail are much larger pieces though. Goat is better, healthier and leaner than oxtail. It's also high in iron and low in saturated fats. This restaurant serves good quality food and friendly plus quick service. The pepper goat soup was delicious and meaty. For once, I've gotten a bowl of pepper goat soup that is mostly meat pieces versus gristle fatty parts. The soup and it's meat was seasoned perfectly. It was not too spicy at all to where I'd break a sweat just trying to eat it. It was definitely perfect. The jolloff rice was good and seasoned good too. I wil definitely be back for this meal. I'm so happy to have found authentic quality Nigerian food much closer to me in Katy. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you're looking for some good, quality healthy food with even lots of gluten free options.

The jollof was spicy (in a good way!) but a bit flavorless, and the chicken was pretty dry. The soups were also on the bland side for me. That said, everyone's taste is different -- just because it wasn't for me doesn't mean others won't enjoy it. The staff was friendly, and I'm still glad I gave it a try. I'll definitely keep exploring more African/Caribbean spots!

I recently had dinner at Bantu House with my daughter. I am not very experienced with African…read morecuisine outside of South African restaurants and a few Ethiopian-style places, so this was a very new experience for me. Overall, I found the food to be very flavorful, well seasoned, and unique. My daughter and I actually ended up liking each other's meals more than our own, so we switched plates, which worked out well. We also ordered a few extra items, including wings and yams. The pounded yam was interesting and very different from anything I usually eat. It is probably not something I would go out of my way to order again, but I am glad I tried it and now understand a little better how it is eaten. The one disappointing part of the visit was the ordering experience. The young man who rang us up was polite, but he was unable to make any recommendations. He said he had been working there for about three months and still could not really suggest what to order. For someone like me, who is unfamiliar with this type of food, recommendations would have been very helpful. I would have appreciated some guidance on the most popular dishes, common choices, or what first-time customers usually enjoy. That said, the owner was extremely kind. She came out to our table, spoke with us, and helped explain how to eat some of the food we had ordered. I really appreciated that. She came across as a very sweet person, and based on her hospitality alone, I would come back to support the business. This style of food may not personally be my cup of tea or something I will crave often, but I respect the flavor, the care, and the local business behind it. I would give Bantu House four stars. It could have been closer to 3.5 for me personally, mostly because of the lack of ordering guidance, but the owner's kindness and the quality of the food pushed it to four.

I'm always happy to discover a good restaurant recommendation, and this one definitely did not disappoint. They had someone out front handing out samples of their Jollof rice, curry sauce, and stewed plantains, which were part of their Golden Bowl. I'm not a big plantain person, so I initially asked for mine without them. But, I decided to give them a try anyway, both with and without them. I'm glad I did because the plantains actually added a really nice balance to the dish. The combination of the rice, curry, and plantains was mostly savory with just a hint of sweetness. Hands down, this was my favorite dish. I also have to give a shout out to the woman out front handling the samples. I spoke with her the most, and she did a really good job of selling the restaurant. She was welcoming, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience enjoyable. Sometimes it's the little things, like someone taking the time to introduce you to the food and make recommendations, that can really make a difference. All in all, ChopNBlok was a great find, and I'm glad my friend recommended it. I don't live in the area, but if I ever find myself back there, I would definitely return for the Golden Bowl. It's always nice when you discover a dish that makes you want to come back for more!

I shared the fufu with egusi soup with stewed goat added, the Stewed Hen, Moin Moin, & Jollof Rice, and the meat pie with a friend and it was plenty for both of us. The fufu with egusi soup was super delicious with a spicy kick that I loved (7/10) . The plate was the star of the meal. Everything from the stewed hen, to the rice, to the greens were all so well seasoned and I truly enjoyed every bite (8.5/10). The meat pie was also delicious with a savory filling and the pastry was thick and buttery but surprisingly not overbearing considering the pastry to filling ratio (8/10). Overall the food was awesome and seemed quite authentic. Would definitely come back to support this small local business!

When I woke up this morning and checked DoorDash it said that the order was picked up at 7:37pm and my card was charged $60, which is honestly too much for 2 soups and 2 appetizers. Also on top of that the location was sketchy, had no visible signage, and was dirty. Would not recommend this place at all if I could give negative stars I would.

Ms. Ade was helpful and took time to explain what was available to order. I personally did not plan on eating Amala because I usually do not like/eat it. My friend ended up ordering the Amala, of course, and I got the goat pepper soup with a side of rice. To my lovelyyyyy surprise I ended up eating the Amala with my friend because IT. WAS. DELICIOUS! While ordering I did mention that I don't like/eat Amala and Ms. Ade confidently stated that if I ate theirs, I would enjoy. I'm so glad she was right. Easily a 9.5 out of 10. Our only critique was that it could've had a bit more meat. But the portion was great. We were even full and had some leftover. (no amala photos taken because we demolished it lol, a reason to go see/experience it for yourself) I did eat some of my pepper soup and it indeed was pepper-ish. Although it was yummy, it was a bit too much for my liking. I would recommend for those who have a very high spice tolerance. Ended up spending a little over $55 but highly worth it due to taste, portion size and service :) Would absolutely recommend and would revisit to order Amala that I used to not even eat lol.

"If we will not eat it we will not sell it." -Marvin Amadi (Owner)…read more So my husband told me that we needed to try out Naija Eatery because he had their Pepper Soup and LOVED it. We decided to go after church service. This place right next to an African food store. When we walked it the place was very intimate and had the really gooood Afro beats playing on the big screen TVs. IB the waitress/ hostess greeted us and allowed us to pick Our seats. My advice: Don't look at menus, but ask IB instead. It pretty much worked like this: We: 1. Picked our rice (plantains are included as a side) 2. Pick meat (goat, fish, chicken, or beef) 3. Order the moi moi (a must have if you are new to Nigerian Cuisine) The menu had a wide variety of soups and stews, but I'm not much of a menu reader. I usually go with what the waitress or waiter recommends. I had the Jallof rice with plantains, goat, and moi moi. Now, I am an American that knows and loves spicy food. THIS Nigerian food is perfection.... Not too spicy as some Nigerian restaurants can be. The best thing is, if you want it spicy, the chef will bring it to the back and add the spices to your liking. I had the pleasure of speaking with the Chef. Her name is Auntie Christy. She recommended (for people that are really looking for a taste of Nigeria) : Fisherman's soup! She said that it has a lot of ingredients from the Motherland and is one of her most exquisite dishes. I brought some home to my husband and he LOVED IT! as did me and Our children She did NOT disappoint! I also had the pleasure of speaking with the Owner whose name is Marvin and he mentioned how good The Egusi and Ogbono soups are when mixed together. I will be sure to try that next time we go! Did I mention that I brought my elders who are from Nigeria (Edo State) and they said that the food "Tastes like HOME". This is the place to go if you are looking for an Authentic taste of Nigerian Cuisine!
