Very bizarre. My wife and I stayed across the street at a great hotel, The Maison Armance. We went to Flottes when we arrived for a bite and a drink before heading to Notre Dame. The manager was stereotypically rude. I speak French coversationally. He didn't want to seat us when I told him we would be having both food and drinks. He said, this is a restaurant for food only, not to drink. They go together. He reluctantly let us stay. Have I said very bizarre? The servers were great. The fare was fair. We tipped 20% because the service was good. We then tried to go back for dessert and a night cap the following evening before heading back to the hotel. This time the manager refused to seat us. We went to another place on Rue de Rivoli. This is a standout negative experience on a great trip. I have been going to Paris my whole life and have several family members who live there. I would avoid this place. No one needs the hassle and bad energy in such a beautiful place. read more

Our waiter was a young gentleman who--like another reviewer said--was all business. We are English speakers so we had slight difficulty with the menu. After a misunderstanding our waiter frustratedly said he would put in our drink order and come back when we were ready. As we placed our entree order he corrected my daughter's pronunciation of a dish and said that she would receive another dish by mistake if she continued to pronounce it incorrectly. He said this without malice but it seemed unnecessary to point out. The food, which was average at best, was spoiled by our waiter. I have been coming to Paris regularly on business travel for 15 years. I have never had a bad meal at Flottes. The service is tremendous and the food very good. I am often on the go and just want a quick meal at the bar. They are very good to an American with no French language skills and appreciate if you are a business traveler to get the food out promptly. I like the beef dishes, but they are fantastic at many seafood dishes. I have also been here with work friends and wanted a leisurely table and beers. Wonderful atmosphere. Very Parisian with no attitude and a genuine regard for their customers. Professional in every way and I am thinking of my next trip there already. A must stop on any of my trips. read more

Got the smoked salmon entree which, in my opinion, was raw salmon. I did not feel comfortable eating raw salmon in Paris. . So I asked the waiter to put it on a pan and fry it up so that it would be cooked. He said he could not do that. I was not able to eat the other two pieces of the three that were provided. I've eaten here 3 times in 2 trips to Paris and each time have been really happy with the quality of both the food and the service. Everyone that works there is really friendly and has a great sense of humor. I've had their onion soup and fish soup and both were delicious. I probably prefer their onion soup but that's just bc I love onion soup so much! Beef tartar is excellent. The foie gras is amazing. And the beef cheeks with shell pasta is hearty and good. Flottes Still Hits the Spot Ten years later, Brasserie Flottes is still a great spot for lunch, or dinner in the 1st. Stopped in for a leisurely bite to eat before heading to the Musee l'Orangerie -- a very convenient seven minutes away across the Rue de Rivoli in the Jarden de Tuileries. After six days of non-stop eating we went a bit lighter, with a salad Nicoise for me and a croque madam, which came with a small salad and frites for my wife. They have a special on half bottles of champagne at lunch for only 39 euros, so why not? And I highly recommend the profiteroles for desert. Magnifique! read more

Dinner in Paris is always a treat. We were staying nearby and found Flottes on our afternoon walk. The place had a nice comfy vibe and the man who greeted us was charming and welcoming. We had to order the French Onion soup - seemed appropriate being in the city where it all started. It was delicious and welcome as it started raining as we were served the steaming hot bowl. I ordered the pork dish and my hubby had the sausage with aligot (mashed potatoes with stringy cheese and if you haven't had that you must do it). We were taken to the basement of this restaurant where it took a while for the only waiter working to come around and take our order and he was grumpy. We had two roasted lamb dishes that came thinly sliced (never had it like this before) with a sauce. The roasted lamb was the worst that I ever had. It came with ratatouille and that was the best part of the meal. The other dish was chicken and it came under cooked. The water bottle was not open at the table. ? Tap water for 8 E. We came to this restaurant due to a recommendation from our hotel staff. We were seated on the street level but at the top of the stairs to go down. It was terrible. We waited forever for someone to come to our table for our drink order and he was rude. He again let us wait forever to take our food order. We again waited forever for the food to arrive. Then waited for him to show up to ask for the check. As he cleaned our table he broke a glass and didn't say a word. There were shards of glass all over the table. He barely wiped the table leaving glass still visible. Sooo rude. Would never tell someone to go and I told the front desk about our experience as well. This was the last meal we had while in Paris. Our tour stopped for lunch. Obviously an organized lunch will not have the options of a full menu, but there were no options unless you had a dietary restriction. We were served one slice of baguette, an over cooked chicken banquet made with only breast meat (dry despite the sauce) with white rice and carrots. Super boring and momochrome. A woman who can't have dairy received cold grilled vegetables and chicken without sauce. Dessert was good, honey ice cream with warm apple tart. And service was efficient. I requested/begged/cajoled for some cheese, because the cheese display looked very good (pictured). But, alas it wasn't included in our pie-paid meal so, non!
