The San Ann Skillet is my undisputed favorite breakfast in the area. A warm flour tortilla on the bottom--topped with a hearty layer of golden skillet potatoes and a full, perfectly seasoned ground beef patty. Fluffy scrambled eggs, onions, bell peppers, diced tomatoes, and plenty of melted jack and cheddar finish it off, with salsa and sour cream served on the side. Outstanding flavor, generous portion (I've never finished one), and excellent value. Enjoyed mine on the shaded patio (watch for occasional falling acorns). Service is always friendly. I don't think a restaurant can get more Florida, which I love! The decor is an old Florida classic and is also attached to a bar and a separate store. Seating is limited, but we did get in pretty quick for lunch. I ordered a mimosa, which is lined with brown sugar and started with the gator bites. For my entree I ordered the shrimp and grits- and wow. The home made tomato bacon gravy was everything and more. My friend and I decided to do brunch here. It was about a 40 minute wait for a table, so we went to the store to look by, and again waited in the seats near the entrance. They give you a ruler with a number, and call them out when ready. We were called after 40 minutes and sat in a table outside. I decided to do lunch and have a cheeseburger (12 dollars) with coleslaw as the side. I requested medium rare temperature, but when it came, it looked to be medium instead. It was still a very nice burger with good beef grilled nicely to add that smoky flavor. It came with cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and pickles on the toothpick. Condiments came on the side, which you added yourself. It was a very good burger as the vegetables were fresh, bacon was crispy, and the beef was grilled nicely (if a little overcooked than requested temperature). The coleslaw was mild and clean, which was still quite enjoyable. The service was very good, with our server catching up on us and refilling my friend's coffee. We had to pay in the counter, and they only take cash (no credit or debit cards here). What was quite interesting is 2 dollar bills are also given as change. Even though the dining area looked small, the extra seating outdoors helped a bit. Parking was quite full, but we lucked out after a truck left, giving us a space. There is a cocktail bar next door to enjoy drinks while you wait for a table, and a small store as well. For 12 bucks, I did enjoy my burger. It is quite a popular restaurant, especially during the weekend. It serves a nice brunch during the weekend, and will visit again to try their omelette next time. After a hike at Chinsegut Conservation park, we headed for lunch at Florida Cracker Kitchen on a perfect fall day in Florida. As usual, there was a brief wait, so we popped next door to the Tap Room and got some cocktails while we waited. Service during lunch was fine- everyone was nice but we never saw the same staff member more than once- and none of us got drink refills. We shared some gumbo- not traditional but very tasty, and we tried the grits and gravy- which is a tomato sauce "gravy." I had the shrimp and grits- same red sauce but with a pair of fried triangles of grits cake. The shrimp were tiny, but it was a nice twist on a classic dish. I added a side of collard greens- good but they needed some tang. My friends had the chicken and waffles (nothing to write home about) and the refreshing Ponte Vedra salad. The restaurant is cash-only and we got our $2 bills in our change- a tradition! A small piece of heaven off the beaten trail in Brooksville, this restaurant serves breakfast and brunch with indoor and outdoor seating. Tons of choices from the usual fare to seafood and brisket and a little bit of everything else. The homemade cinnamon roll is HUGE and melt-in-the mouth delicious. The pancakes are large, the eggs perfectly made to order, and the bacon tested like it was fresh off the pig. Friendly staff even when we came in a half an hour before closing. This place is just amazing! Not only is it a restaurant, there is a tap room and an awesome gift shop! The whole vibe makes you feel like you're in the mountains, which I always want to be in the mountains lol. You MUST have the cinnamon roll, it is to die for. I've never had anything so good but it is giant! The rest of the breakfast was great! Food makes you feel like you're just hanging in your grandmas kitchen. The service was great. The one thing I will say, the server didn't mention it was cash only or that we take our ticket inside to pay. really felt the southern hospitality at this old school at this old school Florida dining establishment. We supposedly had a 30 minute wait, which flew by due to the attractions on the strip. They have a tap room and merchandise store right next-door. I even got a windbreaker cause it was half off. When we were seated we were warmly welcomed and checked on frequently. The food came out quick and fresh. They got all the special details on the order right and there is a bright atmosphere. Would definitely recommend this spot if you are in the area or I would even recommend a trip because it truly depicts old Florida. They offer booths for families and bigger parties and they have bar seating if you are rolling solo. The first time I came I got the cowboy burrito, this time I got the cowboy classic which was eggs your way, corned beef hash, and a biscuit. Both meals were flavorful but I definitley felt better after this one (The burrito is for if you are starving). My cousin ordered the fajita skillet and then we shared a 4 stack of the pancakes. We were dancing on the way out so you know we enjoyed the food and service. They offer different specials on specific days of the week so I would recommend you check it out. This place offers a cool atmosphere. There are all kinds of things to look at hanging around in the old Florida cracker style theme. We got here early on a Saturday so we didn't have to wait to be seated but it quickly got picked after we arrived. The waitress was super nice and attentive even as they got busy. I got the western omelette which tasted a bit off, I think it may have been the ham in it. The raisin toast was tasty and the coffee was good. My husband had the sausage biscuits and gravy. Brooksville has been a much visited town for me with the Throw Down the Mountain disc golf tournament and my in-laws living in Brooksville. I saw Florida Cracker Kitchen as highly rated and just had to give it a try. They are open 7-230 everyday except Monday and only take cash so be prepared. I came at Saturday lunch and had to wait 30 minutes or so. I had three entrees in mind: the Cowboy Burrito, Papa Gator's Brisket Sandwich, and the Cowboy Burger. I asked my waitress for her opinion and she easily said the Brisket Sandwich. I eat a lot of BBQ and unfortunately, I found this Brisket to be mostly tough. I should have known better. There were moments that the sandwich did have a good bite here and there with the Swiss cheese and au jus mixed in. But overall, it was disappointing. On the other hand, I loved every single bite of the slaw. I loved how onion heavy it was for a slaw and how creamy it was. The slaw was soooo much better than my sandwich. I actually wanted more slaw. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet and service was outstanding! I would give Florida Cracker Kitchen another try. I just need to know what to order because it definitely ain't the brisket. read more

We ordered a corned beef hash and cinnamon bun to go. I normally hate corned beef hash, but this item specifically said that it was made from scratch and not from a can. I actually thought it was really delicious and enjoyed the eggs it came with as well. The cinnamon roll was large and fluffy with a sugar frosting on the side. This is the real deal here. The opposite of some chain restaurant. Wholesome attitude, generous portions, hearty cuisine. My family sometimes meets here because it's somewhat in between Orlando and New Port Richey. Expect a long wait but there's plenty of tables to enjoy a drink beforehand, and there are "conveniently" (ha) some small shops you can browse next door. Staff is especially friendly and down-to-earth. They are all wonderful, really. We always feel welcome and appreciated. Plus, the servers are experienced, so it's easy to respect how well they manage their work. I've always liked the Florida cracker in Dade city and something's happened as the chicken corn crusted tasted old so then I tried the Brooksville location. It was much worse. The hamburger tasted old and old grease and it was switched to a chicken sandwich was just as bad. We will never go back to Florida cracker again they claim they chase their grease every day that's hard for me to believe because the fried chicken sandwich was nasty as well as the hamburger.
