Good food. Pretty nice space. Less than stellar service. Two friends and I tried The Bistro for drinks and appetizers before heading to our next adventure in Brooksville. We were seated at the bar and the host shared a few seasonal options- super helpful off the bat. Then things slowed WAY down. It took a lot of time to place our drink orders. The we ordered two apps that we were sharing- the burrata and grilled peach salad (a seasonal option the host talked about) and the Brussel sprouts. We had time to chat with each other until the sprouts came out- delicious! The salad didn't come. Another round of drinks didn't happen. Waters didn't come. The salad arrived more than 45 minutes after ordering and the server said "sorry that took awhile"- it was delicious. And...that was it. No one checked if we needed anything while we dined, just kept walking in front of us in the bar- I requested our check and we paid. Based on this experience, try them out if your goal is to get some good food with minimal service and you have patience and time to spare. I loved that our server left a large glass bottle of water on our table for us, since I was drinking water with my meal. We ordered the crab cakes appetizer. It comes with 5 fried crab cakes that are a little bit larger than a golf ball. They were delicious. I ordered the Greek Salad and got blackened salmon on it. My husband got the burger and fries. I knew as soon as I walked in that it was going to be great. They did not disappoint. Service was immediate upon sitting. The server was very patient as we looked over the menu. There were several dishes that I would have gotten, but I decided on the Yardbird. They were out of a pinot noir and really didn't have much else that looked good to me. My friend started out with a fried green tomato app. OMG! This will change your life as you know it. The chunky bacon bits are what made these the best fried green tomatoes I've ever had! My friend also ordered a black and blue salad to go. But my friend substituted her bleu cheese for gorgonzola. No problems. The salad looked really good. I ordered the Yardbird Fried Chicken Sandwich with a side of fries. The photo I took doesn't do it justice because this thing was a monster sandwich. The fries were crispy and soft. The perfect fry. I honestly didn't think I could finish it. I almost did. Great sandwich. So after seeing that wood fired oven I decided to get a pizza to go. I ordered the Carnivore. I ate 2 slices for dinner. Another winner. Nice chewy crust with a nice blend of pepperoni, sausage, and that chunky bacon. I wanted to try dessert but I was too full from the sandwich. I'll say this. The service is consistently slow, and even getting basic acknowledgment--like eye contact--feels like pulling teeth. I ordered a BLT. I know you're thinking how can anyone screw that up, but let me tell you how they did. Not only were the overly large lettuce leaves that were hanging over my sandwich brown but they were also slimy. They had an almost translucent appearance as if it had been frozen and thawed. My boyfriend and I went here for the first time for a romantic date night and boy did the Bistro pull through . It was a little busy so we ended up sitting out front at a cute table while looking at the menu. On staff that night was one of the most tentative hostess's I have ever met. she offered for us to eat outside and then like an angel she brought us a lamp to set the romantic mood even more. I have never been to a restaurant that instantly had me saying "we are definitely coming back here" like this place did . Stopped by and got a couple of their pizzas to go. The decor is cool and trendy. The service is friendly and great! These pizzas are so good! The Tomato Caprese ($11) is delicious with the pesto and fresh tomatoes! We also tried the Black Goat Pizza ($12) which uses some interesting ingredients and reminded me of bbq flavors. It was also delicious. Depending on how hungry you are, you could share with someone and have an appetizer, salad or save room for dessert! The bistro There were 3 waitresses we interacted with. Two were busting their butts running around our primary one was not. She was behind the bar, slow, Unapologetic for an incorrect meal and bill. But again the other two with dark hair were great. I wish I got their names. Food Pizza 4.5* very good a bit uneven of an uneven cook Salmon 3* was supposed to be a salmon salad... but with the mix up received mashed potatoes and green beans instead. Salmon was very good. What a letdown and how this place has high ratings is crazy. We started with the fried green tomatoes, which were okay. A little dry but had potential to be great. Also ordered two pizzas, habenero Hawaiian and the Goat one that has molasses on it. Either way, both were gross to me. The flavors were all over the place, and they added a garlic butter or oil on the crust, which was weird with Hawaiian. Way too sweet of pizza and no nice crunch to the crust. Beet salad was dry as heck and plain. Carrot cake was the only decent thing we ate. Service - a little slow - had to keep reminding the server to get things. He was wearing a Patchouli cologne or essential oil, awful smell every time he came to the table. Servers should be mindful of their fragrances. She came over and was not friendly. she definitely made me feel uninvited. "Regulars" that walked in were made to feel superior to everyone else. We got sat at a corner table with poor lighting. The lamp was broken and she was like "oh well." She took out order and after it was brought out only checked on us once. Never brought plates for our apps and only had 2 sets of silverware for 3 of us. Again she was like "oh well we are out." Storefront tales to tell. Visions of simpler times. Model T's and no a/c. Number 10 South Main, overhead oval swings in the breeze, 'The Bistro', a beckoning beacon. Bearing one small footprint to the right of the stoplight off Broad, Number 10 might seem small. Diminutive. Minuscule. But it's not. The depth of this downtown den is evident as you amble through the door. Once inside, volume relates to size and not sound. Spacious. Now that I have your attention, let's get to reviewing.... My Fab One and I first took in The Bistro for lunch. Announcing this was our first time, we were gleefully greeted by Luci, a bubbly blonde with team spirit. It really helps when you feel instantly welcomed and valued as a customer. Maggie took over to carry on the rest of our foodie quest, she took excellent care of our every request. We started out with Fried Green Tomatoes. Picture these green seeded slices perfectly breaded and crunchy fried, drizzled with a pimento and BACON oooooh and a balsamic squiggle. The presentation was picture perfect too. It's always fun to eat a masterpiece....right? Fab One ordered the We Got The Beet salad. A healthy spring mix with Beasley's Farm beets, roasted walnuts, goat cheese(YES!) and house balsamic. Her happy salad smile said it all. Delicious. I got the Bistro Cobb Salad. All the fresh goodness you'd hope for and more. With a dab of Ranch dressing I was on my high horse! And there we were, back at Number 10, at just after 11. Sunday. For the Brunch bunch. We strolled ALL the WAY back to the bar and took a comfy high chair seat. Yeah baby... This Bistro Brunch stroll was guided by her behind-the-bar-ness Felicia. I stepped out of my usual tea zone and ordered a Bloody Mary. Oh man! Tomatoes, celery, little oniony onions, BACON, spices and adult beverages have never combined more cohesively in any concoction! Fab One, what did she order? OH! Yeah. She ordered the Eggs Benedict with the cheesy gouda grits. I am quite familiar with that sultry look of satisfaction on her face and there it was. She was happy. I tried those grits(not being a fan of grits). They were quite good! I'd order them! I ordered something that I felt I'd never try. And I'm from the South... I got the Chicken & Waffles. What intrigued me was the country SAUSAGE GRAVY drizzled over the top! So you have these delicious melt-in-your-mouth waffles, some fried chicken pieces covered in a blanket of sausage gravy goodness...what MORE can I say? For me, that sausage gravy put this dish over the top. And there you have it. My review. A little writer's inspiration. A lot of foodie investigation. Four of us went to the Funny farm to see the alpacas in Lecanto. On the way home we stopped at the Bistro. This is a well appointed place. Brick walls, calming lighting. Very friendly staff. I had the chicken tortilla soup for an appetizer. This was the best I've ever had. I like lots of chunks of meat and veggies in my soup and this was perfect. It was topped with tortilla strips that had layers like puff pastry. Sooo good. I decided to have the Black Goat Pizza. They make their pizza in a wood fired oven. There is apple maple bacon, prosciutto, black garlic infused molasses, goat cheese, mozzarella and provolone cheese. My first bite elicted a loud "YUM"!! Everyone at the table got a taste that wanted one. They all loved it. The depth and meshing of flavors was unique. Luckily I brought half of the pizza home so I can eat it tomorrow. One friend had the philly cheesesteak with mac and cheese and fries. She loved the sandwich which was stuffed with tender meat, cheese and peppers. She said that the mac and cheese was yummy with lots of cheese. Half her meal went home with her. Friend two had chicken salad sandwich with a side salad and fries- she shared some with me and they were crispy and flavorful. The salad was very fresh .I got the tomatoes since she doesn't eat them and they tasted fresh from the vine. Friend 3 had avocado stuffed with chicken salad and mac and cheese. She took half her meal home also. The lemonade that I had was delicious. Two friends had iced tea and loved it. Our server Nicole was helpful and attentive.
