We live in Florida but have family in Lexington. EVERY time we visit them we must stop at the Flight Deck at least once and hopefully twice for the country fried chicken Blue Plate special. It is always perfect and the sawmill gravy is to die for. The owner is always walking around and greeting guests and somehow he always recognizes us and gives us a cheery greeting. Flightdeck is a very unique restaurant. Everything is airplane themed from the wall to the menus. Almost everything on the menu has an airplane nametag with it. The atmosphere is pretty classic. Going to this restaurant pulls you into another time in a nostalgic way. Also, the people who work here are very friendly. They will go out of their way to make sure you have a good dining experience. I've had the Spitfire which is a fried chicken sandwich and chicken parm. They're both pretty good and you get plenty to eat with either. I'll say they're food isn't the best you'll ever eat in your life, but it's classic diner food. I wouldn't say the food is fresh, but it's cooked to order (obviously) and it is good. If it wasn't for how cool the place is and the atmosphere it'd probably get a three star review. The atmosphere and the staff make this place worthy of 5 stars. The food is consistently 3.5-4 stars but the owner and staff really go above and beyond. Sometimes you'll get a server that might forget something or other regular restaurant stuff but it's always good and they have a food item for everyone. It's a fun aviation atmosphere and they have pictures and aviation stuff from every military service. My kid always has fun in the arcade. Sometimes a machine is down and it isn't always staffed but it's always fun. The other day we went there for my daughters half birthday (don't ask) and we sat in the big room and the owner changed the tv to Disney jr without us even asking. She loved it. read more

Wow. A coworker took me here for lunch today and I am elated. The menu looked great and my co-workers were pleased with their food. I ordered the ribeye sandwich (almost intentionally left off the bun). It was perfectly seasoned and the fat was perfect. The steak fries were a great compliment. The service was excellent. I remember this place since I was 8 years old in the old location. I haven't been back to Lexington in 20 years and here is this new fabulous amazing restaurant! With a back game room for my kid! We celebrated a 4 year old birthday tonight with 8 guests total and they seated us in the back room with plenty of space and great service! The owner came to our table to assure we were enjoying ourselves at 8:00pm! What owner of a restaurant is still even present at 8:00pm? "Ted" (the owner) even remembered my parents after all these years! Now, to the real reason of my post!!!! The food! I am a foodie and that is the MOST IMPORTANT part! If I had to give a recommendation, it would be the Primo Salad!!! Delicious! However, as a TRUE FOODIE, it would be the deserts! All of the deserts are made homemade!! Food is always really good, with a large menu that has about anything you could want. Try and save room for their wonderful deserts, from cookies and ice cream to delicious over the top cakes and cheesecake too. Now, keep in mind, Flight Deck is not only a restaurant, but somewhat of a museum as well. The walls of the restaurant, down to the tabletops themselves, display amazing photos and memorabilia of our beloved US armed forces. You could spend hours trying to take it all in. Great place for the kids as well, from Superman, to King Kong statues to greet you, along with their on point staff, there's a large arcade to keep the kids busy, and adults too! To top it off, Mr Red, the owner, seems to always be there and stops and speaks to EVERY table, and usually remembers you! The manager usually always makes a stop too, to assure you are getting everything you need. Lastly, they have rooms you can rent for special occasions. While traveling home from an anime convention (Banzaicon), I wanted a fix of food and arcade games. Fortunately, there existed this place. We ate there this date around 4:30 and had wonderful service! I had me a bacon cheeseburger, and it filled my stomach up along with some thick cut French fries. Normally I am not a thick cut fry nerd, but I enjoyed these fries. Now, the burger did have a bit too much onions. I normally am not a fan of onions. I definitely want to try their other food next time though. They've got fried goodness (chicken tenders, fried flounder), wings, salads, desserts, etc. Just about everything. Now, for possibly the biggest selling point of Flight Deck -- the small arcade. I found a 1998 classic which is SEGA's Star Wars Trilogy Arcade, complete with John Williams' almighty film score! I haven't seen this game forever. It was so much fun to shoot all the Stormtroopers in the Hoth level... but I'm not very good at the Yavin level for some reason. :P There was also some ticket redemption games, Namco's Razing Storm shooter (Time Crisis series), and Daytona USA 2 to name a few. Daytona 2 has seen better days here, but still playable. :P I would give the Flight Deck Restaurant another shot. Especially since they've got decent food and Star Wars Trilogy Arcade! read more

I absolutely love the Flight Deck! We have gone there for many years and have never been disappointed in the food or service. I know Ted the owner personally and he walks his restaurant to make certain that everyone is taken care of. Yesterday, we took one of my sons in law there for his first experience. I recommended the blue plate special and he was delighted with it. He got pot roast that melts in your mouth. I got my usual, Country fried steak and you can't go wrong with it! We had a group of 5 plus my youngest grandson and the wait staff were wonderful to us. My wife takes a social group she is in there for meetings. Weekends can be crowded because folks know that the food is great and you get Value for your money. Give them a try if you have not been!!!!! read more

The atmosphere in Flight Deck is great and very kid friendly! Our group ordered several kids meals and sandwiches. 2 of my children enjoyed their meals (corndog & fries, and cheese pizza). My oldest was not impressed with his spaghetti though and wasn't able to finish it. A friend ordered the French dip sandwich and said it was good but too salty. I ordered the Rueben and found it fattier and less flavorful than I like. I love that they have a bakery, or at least dessert case, inside the restaurant though, although we were unable to enjoy any desserts on this visit. read more

We were staying nearby and called in an order for 3 people on Valentine's evening around 6:30. We were driving from the Congaree Ntl. Park for my Aunt's 50th Birthday and saw this restaurant near our place. I read the reviews on this place and saw their average was 4 stars, but I definitely didn't experience a 4-star-worthy meal. I'm definitely not one to judge a restaurant solely by their takeout- I believe that you have to eat there in order to get a full (FAIR) review of a place. However, even with takeout, you're still paying for food, therefore still a customer, and therefore are entitled to an opinion. I'll give them the benefit of doubt because it was Valentine's Day and they seemed busy- at least I'm hoping that was the case. A side note is, especially when traveling and trying new restaurants, I'm not a picky person by any means, so I'm hard to disappoint, but I was. I'm a millennial, 21 years old, and not a "Karen" who complains about everything. The staff were very unfriendly. The hostesses seemed uninterested in their jobs and offered little to no hospitality or help getting our order. We felt like we were burden to them entirely. Even on the phone (and we are nice people!). While we were waiting for our order, a regular was receiving his and had to ask them for the ranch he had asked for, the gravy and his drinks. He was so frustrated after waiting for his ranch and gravy that he left without his drinks. It's a small complaint, but shows a lack of care and attention to detail. We ordered 12 wings with a side of fries, a pot roast with a side of mashed potatoes and carrots, a large greek salad to share and chicken stir fry with a side of fries. We also got 2 slices of the peanut butter chocolate cake and one slice of the chocolate cheesecake. I had ordered the wings, in a medium sauce, and was left immensely disappointed/unsatisfied. I was craving wings knowing full well they weren't necessarily KNOWN for their wings, so I was hoping for at least an average wing. The wings I got were below average. Definitely one of the worst orders of wings I've had. I found that disappointing because I grew up with a dad as a casual, southern chef and know that wings aren't hard to make or time out by any means. It is really hard to make a fried chicken wing unsatisfactory, especially for a large American restaurant. They were BARELY sauced, oily (yes, even for a fried chicken wing), and tasted almost naked. Bland in taste, felt like I was just eating unseasoned, plain chicken. They were also overcooked, and not because they had time to dry out in their take out packaging, as it was only sitting in its packaging for barely 5 minutes while we drove home. It would have been nice to drown the dry chicken in some ranch to add at least a LITTLE flavor, but they forgot my ranch even after I reminded them (just like their regular customer I had seen earlier). It was a shame. Both sides of fries weren't even salted and were completely bland. My aunt had said her pot roast was average, it was bland as well. Out of the 3 meals my friend seemed to enjoy her stir fry the most. The portions aren't that big, so keep that in mind when visiting as well. I guess that's why it's so cheap. The peanut butter choc. cake was average. I was hoping it would be better than our dinner because the desserts are supposedly home made. It was just bland. The chocolate cake featured in this dessert tasted like nothing and was dried out, and the icing was sweet with little peanut butter flavor. The chocolate cheesecake was better, and if I went back I'd get that instead. I enjoyed the chocolate flavor and chocolate crust with the ganache on top. All in all, we spent about 70 bucks on a below average meal. I wish we would have eaten at the chick-fil-a down the street, but we were trying to treat our Aunt to a nice dinner for her birthday. It kind of put a damper on our day. We won't be back if we are in the area again, unfortunately. read more

A couple of the servers looked at us as they brought drinks and food to the tables surrounding us, but no one offered to help or even get our server.
