Did everything they said they would on a complicated move. I'll be calling them anytime I need something done in the future!

I should have just gotten my friends and a uhaul to move, but i was promised it would take 5hrs. i was billed 5.5hrs. tip top of the money i had left. and they didn't even have time to move everything. why? because their recklessness with my things i didn't want them carrying my computer monitors. they were hired to pack and move stuff across portland. they came at 1:30 when they said only to tell me that they didn't know they needed all the packing stuff. they eventually arrived nearly 2hrs later and towards the END Of the original window i was promised without any 'hey we will be there at this ETA' they said they got stuck behind a train, which is fine i guess? but no update after that until i called and complained, which got me a 5% discount, which is nice i guess? but like everything that happened after were MASSIVE red flags, both for the computer and the 'movers' which felt like contractors they just hired for whatever without properly vetting. i had a small move, 2 rooms. they were the slowest movers and most reckless movers i've ever hired. but i don't really blame them fully for that. supposedly they were working since 8am and just drove up from salem or something. they didn't even eat lunch. is that even legal?! no wonder they came to the door exhausted already and out of it. These 2 guys did the best they could, but honestly with how exhausted I was from helping them (something i SHOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO DO), they were doing a good job, but that doesn't really matter. in the end this guy ruined my 2000 custom built standing desk for music. not sure if i can get it repaired or fixed. he undid it and said he will put it back together. it was pretty easy just a few bolts into the joints between the wooden top and the legs and putting on the keyboard tray. easy stuff for the most part (when you have a drill, i don't own one). this guy didn't even look at where he was drilling or understand how the desk was put together after showing him specific things. he just drilled in the bolts and they hit a part that they're supposed to go into but was put in backwards making it impossible (on purpose) to get the screw in. this guy just kept drilling harder and harder and when i asked him about it he was like yeah it's supposed to sound like that. He either was so exhausted he couldn't think straight or just took on tasks he could have said 'yeah i don't know how to do that, can you do it?' either way now i have a broken desk that's only partially built and put together. i am really glad i moved all of my expensive stuff to my place with a friend last weekend, because they definitely would have broken a lot of very expensive things! I also gave them a mattress cover to put on the mattress, and they struggled doing that. You are movers wtf?! i zipped it up about half way and moved on. Then when we got to my new place they didn't even use it and put the mattress on the pavement to get a better angle or something. like what was the point in bringing it?! They also dropped a bunch of precious memories i had in a bin in a bin, they said they took them out because the outer bin couldn't close (bs). They were holding it open wrapped around their arm and i asked them to close it as it doesn't look secure and he said it would be fine, then immediately drops it with pictures and papers dropping on the ground and getting dirty. Anyway this all just happened. and there's no way I can live in my new place due to the lack of time they afforded to me to actually place things in the right spot. At least my bed is in the right spot. luckily for now i am in a short term rental because my last place had mold and why I am moving. i am highly allergic and being there as long as i did, both to wait for them to show up and how slowly they worked on loading the truck, I am feeling sick again because of it. The estimate was low balled to say the least because these guys move at a snails pace because this company overworks them and treats likely their staff like crap. these are probably more desperate people looking for an easy pay day. one guy was like 'i worked 4 days this month' and the other one worked 6 days in a row. a 12 hr day without a break outside of driving (which isn't a break) isn't really fair or legal? I paid nearly 1k for this move, and you can't afford to give these people a proper break between moves? I'm sure they weren't making nearly enough either. Lastly they pressured me to sign a thing at the end of the receipt that says everything was delivered intact, which i didn't sign. Anyway go with another company, not worth the risk. I didn't have another weekend to do this move as i need to have a livable space and that takes time as well. Anyway the movers were careless, slow, expensive, and ignored instructions.

Main issues: 1. pricing lies (a bait&switch style of pricing). 2. Automatic "insurance" that covers…read morevery little. 3. Their online account access. 1. Ignore promotional pricing - once it's over they happily increase monthly rent by 70% of the normal rate. READ: PRICE WILL INCREASE ON THE 4th MONTH. This is consistent and likely an established business practice. Case 1: promo pricing was 50% off first two months. Large (intentionally nonspecific) unit- $136 "normally" with $68 as rate for promo pricing. Rented in June. Then, rate jumped by $88 to $224/month. Given notice in last week of September (25th) for November new rate start. After raising a stink they dropped it by $22. That's still $66 over what I budgeted. Case 2: Had to get a 2nd unit last day of move and didn't have time to go to a different place (believe me, I would have). A smaller unit at $42/months as "standard rate" (October '25). Promo discount of 50% for first 2 months. Notice received in December (26th) that rate will increase to $75 starting February. Again, over 70% increase in cost. And $33 above budgeted. Like clockwork. They claim: [*Warning - eye roll following reading their statement may cause pain*] "We understand that any change in pricing is significant, and we want to assure you that this decision was made after careful consideration. Our team is dedicated to providing you with the best possible storage experience, including ongoing maintenance and upgrades to our facilities." I watched this building get built. It's new. Upgrades..? No. Maintenance, okay but what kind of incompetence didn't plan for that in initial pricing? It's not incompetence. It's shady and unethical. Cowards. What does $100 get you every month? 2. They make you pay upfront for insurance at $12/mo that covers up to $2k. I suggest not storing items at $200 a month if it's all worth less than that. I gave my documents quickly. I was still charged (for first unit) and had to ask them to refund me since I was charged again. I got a second unit as noted - under the same account, passcode, email etc. They still preemptively charged that insurance despite my private policy being on file already. Needs more refunds again. Very dumb. 3. They have an online account (kinda) but it's limited in function to strictly facilitating them getting your money. You cannot see itemized statements. You cannot submit or view documents. You can update your basic info and payment info and see payment history (only total they took from your account so nothing useful). You must request actual itemized statements EVERY MONTH if you want to see what that extra fee is for. Only positives are the doors work and it's relatively clean. But it's new...we'll see how far their maintenance goes. Go elsewhere.

The TLDR summary is -- stay away and find a different solution for storage! Public Storage offered a good initial price compared to competitors in the area, offering me a large storage unit for $424/month. I expected an increase, as it is known that this industry lures you with low initial pricing, but the experience I had is nothing short of "predatory". In the 4th month, the price increased by 39% to $593. I was surprised by the magnitude of increase but continued using the storage unit. About 6 months into my lease, I experienced a first break-in where a pry-bar was used to open metal corrugated doors on the unit, by bending them out of the tracks. My storage unit was at the end of their building, and they did not have adequate security camera coverage. Multiple items were stolen from my storage unit, which amounted to an eventual ~$1500 payout from their third-party insurer through Orange Door. Public Storage was not able to provide another large unit that could fit the contents at the time, so I had to move some more valuable items out (time/effort/expense) and asked them to repair the unit as soon as possible and install a new security camera that covers the end of the building. It took them over 2 weeks to install a plywood cover over the broken door, and 3 months to repair the door (without further securing it). I left Public Storage a key to my unit to facilitate the repair but had no idea it would take 3 months like this (more later). Throughout the whole ordeal, I also was never successful in getting any additional security/lighting or protection added to this part of the building. Shortly after this horrible experience, I was contacted (8 months in) and told that the price was increased to $755/month - a 78% increase since starting the lease. After spending a good amount of time on the phone, the local office reduced that to $633 for "3 months" and I started to make plans to vacate the unit. After planning to move out, I returned to the unit to find that more items had been stolen from the storage unit. Since this happened while Public Storage had access to the storage unit, I contacted their management and suggested they investigate (and filed another police report). They claimed that another break-in had occurred, and they had already repaired the unit again. They had not reached me about either the break-in or the 2nd repair. Throughout the issues, I found it difficult to contact the company representatives. They do not really work through email or text messaging and often don't answer the phone during business hours. I also made 3 separate trips to try to collect the shared key during clearly posted business hours, but there was not employee available onsite. When I did reach local representatives, they were generally nice and helpful. At the end of the ordeal, I asked for a 1-month credit due to poor security and overall experience. This was granted and showed up on my credit card, and I put this behind me (or so I thought). Several months after putting this behind me, I was contacted by a regional office for Public Storage claiming that I was granted a one-month refund that I should not have received. I explained this over the phone to the regional representative, and his attitude was one of complete ambivalence as I relayed all of the issues at which point he told me to pay, or he would send my account over to a collection agency.
