A couple of weeks later, I had to put some things in the storage unit and Isaac was kind enough to got a step stool out just in case I need it. I contacted this business to take care of my storage needs and got a lot more, Josh who use to work for Downtown Self Storage who has moved to California was there for me and my husband, he gave us a discount on our Storage unit when we spoke to him over the phone and in person. When our Uhaul was broken into he advised that we could left our uhaul in their dock bay. He gave us time to get our things into our unit when we struggled to meet the time deadline. I am forever greatful to him. Everyone here is very accommodating. They give my little grandkids treats. This is the place to come to for your Storage needs. I have used Davis St Storage in Portland for the last 3 years, and will continue to use them for the foreseeable future. In the last 3 years of having the same unit, regardless of whether items have been there for 3 years or just 3 months, there has been no damage, whether it be due to rodents, bugs, water, heat, or other typical storage concerns. As someone who stores things in multiple states, this is one of the best units I've ever rented. It is also secure. They are very diligent about people entering and exiting, and about people tampering with locks. I've had no issues and have never felt that my items were not secure while storing them here. The staff is also always on hand, and they are FRIENDLY! I wish I was just writing this for the review but Kristi and Kelli provide amazing service and pretty much always have me leaving laughing. We needed a little extra space while living in the Pearl District to store some things we didn't use often. The staff at Downtown Self Storage are so friendly and helpful, not to mention the facility is spotless! I don't know how they keep it so clean for how old the building is. I would do no stars if possible. I'm sure I will be discredited by the owner/manager but I would like to warn any BIPOC folx from renting here. Linda Monroy was incredibly racist towards us after another customer harassed us outside and inside the elevator. The man then stalked us to our unit to see where it was and then reported us after we stood up for ourselves. Linda Monroy (employee "manager")proceeded to accuse us and say this man would never do anything like that and basically blamed us for the altercation. She said the man was reporting the situation to the owner and when we asked for the owners number we were denied. After feeling unsafe leaving our belongings here we promptly moved out and requested a refund 20 minutes after moving in. We went back and forth for close to an hour where Linda Monroy refused to provide a refund or proof that she requested one. She attempted to record us, started raising her voice and then called security on us for simply requesting our money back. She said if I wanted proof of a refund I would need a "court ordered document" in order to provide a simple receipt that a refund was processed. She assumed because we are brown we are the aggressors and when we rightfully so got upset with the treatment, she threatened us with police involvement. read more

I have never had this type of personal and exceptional service at a self-storage. I was personally greeted each time by the friendly and attentive front desk staff, especially the two female attendants. Two different experiences I think prospective customers will find useful: 1. I wanted to downsize a few months into being there when I had settled into my new place and expected to be told to wait until a new month but I was able to move that day. 2. The amazing customer service in this case cemented Downtown Storage as my future company of choice forever! I got a bigger apartment and was gradually moving my things, I met someone at the unit to sell some storage tubs and dropped the money outside my car by accident, I thought I'd dropped it somewhere between my car and apartment though. Within 10 minutes I had a voicemail from Monica (one of the attendants I mentioned above) to let me know I had dropped something (my cash). No one would have ever known the difference and I never would have thought I lost it there, it was not a large sum, $10, so it would be unlikely anyone would cause too much of a fuss, and she not only put it aside but also took the time to call me and leave me a sweet message, even held onto it at the front desk for 2 days until I could make it back into finish moving my things out. On top of that, I moved out on the 3rd and instead of needing to give 30 days or pay an entire month, I paid a prorated amount, not something that is usually done other places. The facility: They have 4 bay parking spots w/ 6+ street parking spots that are almost always available. Unheard of in Downtown Portland's Pearl District. Inside is immaculate and well lit. The units are all indoors keeping belongings safe and temperature controlled. There is a wide array of unit sizes and dimensions, as well as having a significantly lower price point than competitors in the Pearl, all of Portland Metro really. Cons: If have any complaints (they would never stop me from returning or recommending to someone else) is that the hours are limited with no after-hours entrance, which I think is to keep homeless persons from camping inside rather than the street which is a huge problem during the pandemic and the city is a ghost town. ( I understand this is a thing at the Public Storage nearby). And there is usually a tent or two across the street with loads of flotsam and shopping carts that they never seem inclined to clean up after themselves. That is not something they are responsible for but it is off-putting. read more

When I was moving to Portland, Oregon from West Seattle, Washington state in the early 2000s I stored all my belongings that I could fit into a rented U-Haul moving van. I ended up storing my belongings at the Downtown Self Storage on Davis street. There are large bays, dollies, and a cart which made it easy for me to load my belongings into a storage unit on an upper level. I moved into my apartment about a year later on three Saturday afternoons. The staff at Downtown Self Storage was an older woman who was friendly, but liked to roam the halls near closing time... she was looking for people that left their storage unlocked - it's against their policy. I asked about the payments, and I was told that back then the second and third month were free. There was a special for the month that I moved my belongings into Downtown Self Storage. I ended up living in Northeast Portland, though in a very busy neighborhood. There was a Cafe' nearby as well... and sometimes after I was done moving my belongings on a Saturday, I walked over to the Cafe'... it had horrible coffee... I think it was the Dark Roast or something. Once, there was a Weird man who was roaming the halls of the Downtown Self Storage.... I asked the woman working there why he was allowed to rent a storage unit... she said she hadn't seen anyone similar to the man I described. It was odd... I think he got let into the building by one of the people who was renting a storage unit on a different floor.... sometimes there are riff raff in that neighborhood up to no good! Also,... I think that older woman who was staff dyed her hair black... although, it didn't look like that was her natural hair color. I recommend Downtown Self Storage for those people who need a reliable storage in any part of Portland, Oregon. My rent for my storage unit was prorated for the last month... because I left in the middle of that month. read more

I had a unit for 3 years and had nothing but good experiences. The staff is very professional, friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Some examples: -When I didn't have my key and needed to cut off my lock, even though it was one of the very heavy duty Kryptonite padlocks for bikes, they had massive bolt cutters on hand and got it off within 5 minutes. -When I moved away and wanted to empty my unit into a couple of those storage pods, they were very responsive and helpful about letting us use their loading bay. -They always had anything we needed, on hand: new locks for purchase, parking permits to load and unload our truck/trailer without hassle, freight dollies and an elevator, etc. Thank you, Downtown Self Storage at Davis Street! Renting a unit downtown was not my first choice. I had thought parking was going to be an issue. I thought access to my unit was going to be problematic -- not a drive-up unit, need to use freight elevators, preset hours for access, etc. I was wrong! There is such a friendly staff with 2 managers on duty, all hours, all days. The inside loading docks are key to getting my belongings in and out, dry, easy and safe.
