DO NOT USE!!! Please stay away if you like to be lied at, have your things broken and have no one to respond. I signed full insurance and they broke over $8,000 of items and do not respond. Please use someone else.

Second time using FlatRate moving. And the second time I'm giving them one star. First time I used them was from 2012 moving from NYC to LA. They were WEEKS late delivering my stuff. They swore they fixed it when I hired them to move some stuff in storage recently from LA to Kansas City, MO. The truck was late (but given weather issues, they get a pass). However, when they arrived in Kansas City, one of the movers broke a $1000+ dresser, hurried out the door, and said "oh, just submit a claim. have a good day!" I go through the claims process, and they want to give me $175 for a dresser the movers admitted to carelessly breaking. Again, the dresser was over $1000 and I have a receipt proving such (and it's a one-of-a-kind piece). When I protested the small compensation amount, they were basically like "too bad, you should have opted into better insurance." Given how careless they are with your belongings, you can find cheaper elsewhere. I expected better service after such a bad experience with them the first time (and the offered to pay me to remove initial that review).

Vintage mid century credenza from grandparents

So look I used them once to move from NYC to CA, was highly disappointed. Gave them another shot moving 10 mins from one place to another in LA, again was highly disappointed. They do not care about your furniture. They literally do not wrap anything correctly, they send small tiny men, show up late, place items in inappropriate ways on the blacktop. Here is the list of what happened: During the local move, they broke a vintage glass jar I had because they took the plastic stacking bins I had, did not use the dolly they came with which purposefully keeps them stacked upright and instead used a hand truck which has to be tipped back to operate. All items were shuffled around inside each bin. Why did I bother with the plastic bins that stack perfectly upright? This cost me an extra $200 for no reason. (The company though is Leafy and they are women owned. They I highly recommend! Amazing people, service and price) Our handmade beautiful oak bed was literally destroyed by them only wrapping it in black shrink wrap, leaning it against the truck on the blacktop and it blowing over in the wind. They scratched both of my bedroom end tables right on the top of them as well because again they only used black shrink wrap to protect them. My $1000 mattress that is less than a year old got torn in three spots also since they dragged it across the unfinished wood floors. I mean this company has NO regard for your stuff. I paid $1200+ (not including tip) to move a 2 bedroom home 10 mins down the road and my husband and I did almost all the prep work for them before they arrived. Had we known to what extent we should have done the prep work we would have. During the cross country move, they scratched my husbands Vespa up by strapping it down inappropriately during the cross country move. They damaged a mid century credenza we had left from family (literally left holes in the wood). The cross country move was a 1 bedroom move that was quoted as $5664 and on the day of the move they tried to charge me more for items they had already seen when they came and did the consultation. You will get little to no money back for damaged items. Lastly, their masks were down the whole time in this most recent local move. I can not say anything good about this company. STAY AWAY!

Only few pictures for the beginning.

    Broken Flat Screen TV

I would not use Flatrate.com! I used them in NY years ago when I was simply moving to a different floor within the same building. Based on that experience, I thought they would be good for a move from LA to Denver. I was wrong! I paid them to pack up my apartment and transport the contents of my 1-bedroom apartment to my new place in Denver. When the boxes arrived in Denver i was horrified at how poorly my items were packed and how little care they took in the move of every household item I own. They broke my flat screen TV, custom art frame, crystal table lamp, walnut wood end table, and many collectables including glass blown flowers, tea cup and a keep sake box. What is even worse than how poorly my items were treated is that they employ a worker who steals. An original painting I purchased was stolen, and the company's customer service is non-existent. I even paid for extra insurance! I filed a claim and sent them the original purchase receipts of almost every item broken including the painting of which the value was several thousand dollars. They told me they reviewed my claim and were going to send me a check for $800 of which $500 was them waiving the deductible as a courtesy to me. They said I could appeal their decision. I immediately filed my appeal, sent several emails, made calls only to be ignored. They could care less about their customers and their customers possessions. This has been such a horrible, frustrating process and I sincerely hope no one ever has to experience what I experienced in dealing with flatrate.com. Don't let their inexpensive move pricing lure you. They provided careless service to me and showed zero remorse that one of their employees stole a valuable painting from me. I told them that I would let the value from the broken items go if they at least sent me the value of my painting of which I sent them the original receipt. They failed to respond so after a few attempts to get them to reconsider, I felt compelled to let others know about my horrible experience trying to deal with flatrate.com. My move actually cost me more than double their quote due to the items broken/stolen. Now, I'm forced to pursue legal means based on their non-existent customer service and the fact that I had given them plenty of opportunity to make this right. I was being reasonable in trying to get them to simply pay me for the damage they caused and now they will have to deal with my attorneys and pay for my broken flat screen tv, table and other items in addition to my stolen painting plus my attorney fees. I've shared my horrible experience with flatrate.com in the hope that this never happens to anyone else!

Gabriel was very patient with me as I wanted to wait for the price to drop before transferring to the smaller unit. He always wears a mask and keeps his distance for safety purposes. Three weeks later, I got my new smaller unit. It was thoroughly cleaned. Gabriel is cleaner than the previous manager, and I hope he stays for a long time here. He is also very nice to give me the first available unit closest to the entrance. He tries to give you the best service possible under the given circumstances, really. He also allowed me to borrow the moving dolly to move my stuff from one unit to another. Very very kind and helpful. He goes out of his way to gives the customers the best possible options or alternatives. The storage facility itself deserves only 3.5 stars. It's located next to a slaughterhouse so it stinks like cattle manure from late morning til dusk. My ex-unit was outdoors, the first one next to the office, and we once had one fat roach on the wall. I reported it to Gabriel and he took care of it, and reported it to management. No other pests sighted, and they have rat poison every two units or so. The outdoor units are more prone to cobwebs, so if you're going to store and forget, please be aware.

So I bit the bullet, tightened up my belt and dealt with it until i was able to get out and stopped the bleeding. Fast forward to this past few weeks. I was going out of the country and needed a space to park my car for 18 days. Figured it was temporary and that I would be back soon, I opted to rent a parking space here since it is nearby. It was an uncovered space but I thought it would be OK. I was wrong, completely wrong! When I returned and went to retrieve my car, there had been an attempted theft! The steering colum case was ripped off and the ignition key slot was damaged to where it would no longer fir the key. The interior was a mess. The glove compartment and between seat interior compartment were thoroughly trashed. Everything was scattered all over. The battery was taken. So even if I manage to force the key into the ignition, the car will not start. This was about 4 or 4:30 pm. on a Tuesday afternoon. And "no Public Storage personnel" was anywhere to be found dispite the posted hour of operation of 6 am. to 6 pm. So I called. No live person to take the call. I left a message. A short while later they called me back. As I began to tell them what happened to my car, they told me yes they know. The incident happened 2 days prior and that they have file a report with Montebello PD and for me to come next day at 2 pm. to get the report number to file with my insurance. Sound ok so far? Next day I showed up at about 2:30 pm. and told the lady at the office near the gate what happened and why I was there. To my astonishment, she knew "nothing" about it! The left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. After a few minutes, another lady called into the office and confrontationally and combatively proceeded to tell me they are not responsible. Was I upset? Oh! Why would a long time customer like me be upset just because I "paid" to leave my car somewhere thinking it's safer than parking it on the street? Why would I be upset if the party I paid tells me they don't know anything about an attempted theft of my car after having told me to come get information? Why would I be upset if the party I paid tells me they are not responsible for anything that happened? Why? Why would I be upset? So I put in a call to the PD and waited. When the black and white pulled up and official police report was filed, the officer tells me she just came from another incident report at a Public Storage. We went to the office to as about security footage and a man who introduced himself as the District Manager was there. I asked him if this type of thing is a common occurrence here. He responded "No. But a lot of people are impacted." What the f_ck does that mean? My take... The people who attempted to steal my car had access to the gate access code. Surely they wern't going to ram the car through the gate to get out if they succeeded in hot wiring my car. Conclusion: This is not the place to trust with your belongings. It is not safe and they don't care...

You expect long waits, confusing rules, and just an overall headache. That's honestly what we were preparing ourselves for when we started looking for a storage unit. However, our experience with Golden State Storage in Santa Fe Springs was the complete opposite. We actually found the place by accident while driving by, and what immediately caught our attention was how clean and well-kept the property looked from the outside. The bright yellow color of the building stands out, but more importantly everything looked organized, modern, and very well maintained. That alone made us curious enough to stop in and check it out. We were looking for a storage facility close to home where we could keep some equipment, but we honestly had no idea what to expect or what the process would be like. The moment we walked into the office, Jackie greeted us and completely changed what we thought the experience would be like. She was incredibly welcoming right away. Not the forced "customer service" kind of greeting, but genuinely friendly and helpful. Jackie was amazing from start to finish. She took the time to explain everything in detail and made sure we understood how everything works. Since we had never rented a storage unit before, we had a lot of questions. She never rushed us and was extremely patient while answering every single one. She walked us through the different unit sizes, pricing, access hours, and security features so we could figure out what would work best for our needs. What really stood out is that she didn't just talk about the units from behind the desk. Jackie actually offered to walk us around the facility and show us several units in person so we could visualize the space. That made a huge difference because it helped us understand exactly what we were renting. She also showed us how to navigate the building, how access works through the Bluetooth phone system, and how the entry points and elevators work. For someone who has never used a modern storage facility before, that level of guidance was incredibly helpful. You can tell she truly cares about making sure customers feel comfortable and confident with their decision. She made the whole process smooth and stress-free. As for the facility itself, everything is extremely clean and well maintained. The elevators are spotless, the hallways are clean and well lit, and the entire building feels very secure. You can tell the management takes pride in maintaining the property. The Bluetooth phone access is also very convenient. It makes entering the facility simple and modern without having to deal with complicated keypads or cards. The whole system feels very organized and secure. Overall, we were very impressed with Golden State Storage. What started as a quick stop while driving by turned into finding exactly what we needed. But the biggest reason this experience stood out was Jackie. Her professionalism, patience, and friendliness made what we expected to be a stressful process incredibly easy and actually enjoyable. Thank you so much, Jackie, for taking the time to help us and for making the entire experience such a positive one. Customer service like that is rare these days, and it definitely made a lasting impression. If anyone is looking for a clean, secure, and well-run storage facility in Santa Fe Springs, I highly recommend Golden State Storage. And if you get the chance to work with Jackie, you'll be in great hands.
