We came here for the first time because of the Sweet Deals beer booklet. We would have never stumbled upon it because it's in an industrial area that we don't ever drive near. The menu has beer, wine, appetizers, and pizza. Our beer booklet covered one beer each and an appetizer. We decided to have the blonde beer, the hazy hefenweizen, fried caulifower, and the artisan bread. The blonde beer and hazy hefenweizen were both great. The fried cauliflower was mediocre. It seemed a little undercooked and could have been more crispy. We also would have liked more sauce on it. The artisan bread had fresh, fluffy pizza dough which we really liked. This one was suppsoed to be truffle flavored and we did not taste any truffle. There was mushrooms and balsamic glaze on it and the flavor was overall bland. If I come back, I would be open to trying the pizza, but would not get the items that we had. The inside of Flat Fish is really big. The cellar area is big enough to have a large party or group. They have a stage in the cellar area where they have events with live music. The owner who helped us was friendly and nice. Flat Fish has a laid back vibe. Flatbread dough was unique and delicious; soft and slightly chewy, in a good way! Beer...two thumbs up! I sampled the brown, the stout, and an IPA. All were excellent. I'm not a brandy drinker, but had a couple sips of their house made and really liked it! The husband and wife owners were very helpful and nice to talk to. They have a cozy front area and large rear area with lots of seating, a big screen, and a stage where I'm told they have live bands. Definitely will be going again! read more

This has been the summer of searching for casual live music venues in Ventura County. We checked out Flat Fish Brewing / Cantara Cellars on Saturday evening to have a date night. We were greeted with a clean, spacious venue set up inside the storage warehouse for Cantara's wine vats. Their place is in an industrial park in West Camarillo. GPS is helpful to find them. Protected from the weather, this a good choice when it's too hot, cold, or windy to be outside in the evening. It got a little bit stuffy even with two huge roll up doors open, but we could go outside for a while to get fresher air if needed. The tasting room / gift shop area is off to one side of the large overall space. Dear Hubby went in to choose a beer, while I chose a table for us to sit for the music portion of the evening. He came back with a lighter, but very hoppy craft beer. I could catch a whiff of the hops from time to time. Very pronounced. They had a few options for the designated driver - Lori's Lemonade, or NA beer (found out about that option later). Ice cold bottled waters were a bargain at $1. We didn't sample their food items as we'd just come from dinner. As we plan to return, will be checking out their flatbread offerings. Would love to try the pizza, but, sigh, non-dairy diet happening for me. When I went in to the tasting room I was able to view the menu as a teaser to a future visit. Acoustics for the visiting band were good, and there was plenty of room for dancing up near the "stage" area. We appreciated that the band played a variety of rhythms, so we got to trot out our rusty rhumba, swing, West Coast Swing, and hustle moves. Great to see on their website that they will have more live music events on into the autumn. We'll definitely be heading back for another night out before long. read more

I like to leave a nice tip and would have loved to leave glowing review for this local small business-- but really impossible. I have NEVER not left a tip for a server, but Chris, the owner, was shockingly rude while behind the bar pouring drinks - and many of us felt the same that night. Looking at Yelp, it's clearly a pattern. With just a little kindness this could've been a place worth recommending, but instead it's a textbook case for customer service 101. Will not be back or recommend this business. And just so bad I had to leave a post - really says something. read more

Camarillo is short on places for GenX to spend time without the noise of the world. This little gem answers that unmet need. The brewery room is perfect to sit and enjoy a quiet night out. The owners, husband and wife team, are the two kindest people you'll meet. There is an event space, but kids and their parents generally stay inside there. Of course, private events are welcomed and are lots of fun. There is also card and board games for anyone to play. The beers are lovely. I like the darker beers. The stout (Devil Trout) currently on tap, is delicious. We have the Access Ventura card and got a B1G1. They offer growlers, if you find something you love. If you like to frequent breweries because you can bring your kids with you and enjoy a family day out, this place is not for you. This is a fairly small brewery, with no outdoor seating, which should have been my first clue. They have a small selection of beers, a list of wines, and a large kitchen menu. We walked in and were initially greeted with a smile, until they realized we had kids with us. We were told they were going to set up tables for us in the back room, "so we wouldn't be a distraction." Mind you, there was only 1 other couple in the brewery at the time and our kids weren't being overly loud, but I just want to have a beer and enjoy our day out trying new places. So, we agreed to sit in the other room. The beer wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything exciting either. We felt like we were shunned to the other room with no interaction. It was awkwardly quiet and I honestly couldn't wait to leave. It was very clear that families were not welcome here and we were not having a good time. We won't be back, which I'm sure the older woman behind the bar is happy about, because she was literally glaring at us as we walked out. Some may judge us for bringing our kids, but we've been to plenty of breweries that welcome families and make it fun for everyone. I have never left a business feeling so unwelcome. read more

We've been searching for a place like this for quite a long time. Husband loves beer. I love wine. This place has plenty of each. It's a brewery and Cantarra cellars combined. I had a small flight of 3 tastes of wine. The red blend was wonderful. Husband tried 2 very dark beers. He said they were very good. The food was fun and yummy. Great flat bread pizzas. My gluten free crust tasted amazing which is usually not the case with GF. Also recommend the pulled pork tater tots. We enjoyed the live music although the 2 comedians fell flat and some parties lost their steam and left during that portion of the evening. I can't wait till the tap room opens! Until then, Flat Fish is conjoined with Cantera Cellars. When entering, it doesn't feel like a brewery but be patient because the beer is pretty darn good! Also resist the temptation for the wines because remember, you came for the beer. The owners are very warm and welcoming, explaining the beers through and through. There is also an assortment of merch to purchase and unique wine themed gifts to buy. I got the sampler to try the beers as I'm not the biggest beer drinker but found them all to be very pleasant (even the IPAs). Came here on a Saturday afternoon with some friends for a birthday. My boyfriend got the Long Drift and I ordered the Go Fish and both beers were very good. We also ordered the buffalo wings with ranch, which were okay. The service here is great and everyone working was extremely friendly. The only thing I wish they had was maybe some music (which we learned they do live music on some nights!), and maybe some games for entertainment. Atmosphere is almost cafeteria-like - sterile, noisy, no character. Two beers and their $20 salami/cheese plate was over $36. Beer was mediocre at best. I don't think we will go back - pricey without a good vibe nor excellent beer. If you have little kids, you might like the game and play area - not our style though. read more

We attended a reception at Flat Fish Brewery. The owners are rude and extremely unfriendly. Chris Brown stands with her hands on her hips watching and is very rude and unaccommodating. We arrived early to help finish setting up. Some of the small flowers & greenery that were delivered for the tables were no where in sight. Chris had decided that it wouldn't look good and there wouldn't be room for them. We found the buckets of flowers and greenery stashed behind the refrigeration storage. We added them to the tables and they worked out perfectly. The reception was scheduled until 9:00pm. At 7:30pm she tells us it's Last Call and then her husband and an employee start clearing off the reception tables! Their prices are high, but what is worse is how extremely unfriendly and unwelcoming they are. Horrible place for a reception of any kind. read more
