I feel compelled to write this review - not because I think they need my help. They're obviously doing well. Every time we drive by, no matter which day of the week or what time of day, there's a ton of people there - but because some of the recent negative reviews I've seen on here just don't align with the experience I had. It had been a very long time since I'd visited Tarantula Hill. Like I mentioned, it always looks crowded, it's beer focused, and there always seems to be a bunch of kids running around. Not really my thing. BUT, we were invited to come watch a friend's band play last weekend, so I came to Yelp to read recent reviews. You know ... to set my expectations. The complaints about the QR ordering system. Ridiculous. This place is HUGE. I promise you, you're getting your food and drinks faster with this method. I remember when you had to stand in long lines to get a drink. Who wants to do that? Not to mention you don't have to flag down someone for your check when you want to leave. The complaints about service being rude and taking forever. I actually couldn't believe how fast we got our drinks and food after placing our order with my phone. Especially given it was a Friday night and really crowded. Also no one was rude to us. Food and drinks are what you would expect at a place like this. Pretty good! Am I coming here to impress a date? No. Am I coming here to hang out with friends? Absolutely. And their proprietary beer is very good. I order it even when I'm not at their brewery. I like this place. It is super far from my house but for the last two years, I have been a part of a private event that is hosted here yearly. It is a super casual place. We usually reserve a couple tables on the front patio overlooking the street. The part about this place that I love is the ordering system. There is a QR code on the table which takes you to the menu. You simply place your order and someone brings it to your table, usually fairly quickly. You simply keep a running tab and close at the end of your meal. Super easy. Drinks are good too. I was worried it was only beer and wine but they have a full bar. The old fashioned and manhattans are good and yes, they have block ice cubes. The scene is cool, casual, friendly people. If it wasn't so far from my house, I'd make it a regular stop! read more

i've only been here a couple times now with my boyfriend and every time we even drive by, there's always people inside and outside. Tarantula Hill Brewing is probably the most popular place to get drinks in the Thousand Oaks and Westlake/Agoura area. Don't ever expect it to be quiet because they'll have live bands, high school reunions, to even little kids birthday parties because of the ice cream store that they have at the back. What's nice, though, is that they have a brewing beer line and on the other side of the place, they have more cocktails and mocktails with an ice cream store in the back. Both times that I've been here, my boyfriend has gotten a beer while I will explore the cocktails menu. My boyfriend also likes that you can sample the beers and sours to see if you'd be interested in getting a full drink. They have a lot of good basic drinks, as well as the frozen blood orange margarita, which is my favorite and packs a punch. The first time we went, security wasn't really present, but it was during a weekday while when we went on a Saturday night, we noticed that security was going around giving wristbands. The only time we've had an issue is when we went the most previous time on a Saturday night and because their frozen margarita machine was being serviced, it was taking longer than usual to get my drink. When we first went to order, they said that they would be ready in 10 to 15 minutes so after 15 minutes, we went back to check again. A different worker told us that it would be another 15 minutes and then it should be ready shortly, so we waited again another 15 minutes and noticed that the machine still wasn't working. You end up feeling bad as a customer having to keep asking about something because you're not being updated or communicated to. It sucks because in the end, we ended up having to wait an hour or so in total just to get one drink, and by that time, my boyfriend had already drank two beers. I ended up having to get in line again and waiting behind a long line of people which took over 20 minutes just to get told that the frozen drinks had been ready for a while even though we had consistently been checking. When it comes to customer service, no one really seemed to care that we had to wait over an hour for one drink, as I know that they were swamped, but no consideration was present at all. I'm glad that when I finally got the drink that it was good, but because it was a frozen one apparently they had also made one on the rocks at the same time just in case the machine STILL wasn't ready after an hour (although we had been told that it would be ready in 10 to 15 minutes). We were upset to see that when we went to close out our tab, they put both the on the rocks and frozen margarita on our bill even though I had just wanted the one frozen blood orange margarita. All in all, it's nice that we have a place like Tarantula Hill in the Thousand Oaks area, but it's moments like those that discourage me from coming again in the future. If Tarantula Hill Brewing can find a better balance of handling the Friday to Sunday rush with people, then I feel like they would have a better loyal customer base and I'd love to keep being one of them. read more

Wanted to try the trivia night at Taratula Hill. We arrived just after 5 PM thinking the trivia started at 6 PM. Wrong. Doors open to the back yard where the trivia takes place at 6 PM. The games start at 7 PM. At 6 PM, no problem getting a large table (we were 8 on our team). By 7, getting a big table would have been a challenge. My wife and I decided to share the Goomba pizza (really just a mushroom pizza with a cute name). A white pie with several types of mushrooms. ($24). A bit pricey for a bar pizza but tasty and large enough for the two of us to share. A scoop of their house made ice cream for dessert. Now that was quite good. And being a brewery, I had my choice of IPAs to pick from. Also NICE! The trivia was closer to the New York Times connections game rather than true trivia, but still a lot of fun for a group to play (no, even as a group we were terrible but still fun) read more

This spot seriously doesn't disappoint! Not only do they have the best bar food including icecream but they have live music and it's so spacious so there's always plenty of seating inside and outside! Big tvs to watch sports. We got to watch some World Cup games and you would think it'd be too pack to find somewhere to sit but no. It was pretty packed but there was still plenty of room to sit at. I tried their spicy chicken wrap which comes with chips and their honey mole pizza. Both were so good! Honestly their pizza is some of the best pizza I've had and that's not common for bar pizza. We've been to Tarantula Hill before (the first time we just left because we wanted a sit down seated service type place, but, we've been back since) and generally like the vibe and really like the beer. I'm still not a fan of the whole scan-a-QR-code-and-order-everything-yourself setup, but whatever. We know that's how it works going in. Last night we grabbed our beers, found a table and scanned the code to order dinner. I got a Cubano with fries, my husband got a chicken club with fries. Nothing particularly complicated. It was busy, so we waited. Totally fine. Eventually my food came out. The woman delivering it slid it onto the table in front of me without saying a word and walked away. Okay then. We figured my husband's food would be right behind mine. Nope. We waited. And waited. And waited some more. Meanwhile I'm trying NOT to eat because it's date night and I'd actually like to have dinner WITH my husband. My sandwich and fries are getting colder by the minute, he's stealing my fries because he has no dinner of his own, and we're both wondering what the heck happened to his chicken club. There are TONS of employees walking around, so I kept trying to catch someone's eye. No luck. Apparently once you've successfully used the QR code, you're on your own out there. We checked the order on the phone to see if maybe there was an update. Nope. But we did discover a button to call for assistance. Aha! Assistance! So we used it. A woman in a green hat came over and just stood there looking at us like...WHAT? No "Hi, what can I help you with?" No "Is everything okay?" Just a stare. We explained that we'd ordered together, my food had come out quite a while ago, and my husband's still hadn't. Her response was basically that food doesn't come out together, it comes out when it's ready. Yes. We understand how food works. I'm not expecting two sandwiches to burst ceremoniously through the kitchen doors side by side while trumpets play. But there's "your meals might come out a couple of minutes apart," and then there's "one person's entire dinner is cold while you wait for the other person's sandwich to appear." I told her we'd been waiting quite a while and my food was now cold. And because the universe enjoys comedy, at that exact moment my husband's food arrived. Hooray! The chicken club lives! And Green Hat Lady just turned around and wandered away. No "Sorry about the wait." No "Sorry your food got cold." No "Do you need anything else?" No "Enjoy." Nothing. She'd been summoned specifically because we needed assistance, provided precisely zero assistance, and apparently considered the matter closed because the missing sandwich had materialized. As she was walking away I finally said, "You could have at least been pleasant." She stopped, turned around and said, "What about that wasn't pleasant?" And walked away. Well. THAT, for starters. Seriously??? Nobody came back. Nobody checked on us. Nobody asked if we needed anything. That was it. And here's the frustrating part: the food was good. Even cold, my Cubano was good. My husband liked his chicken club. The fries were good. We like the beer enough that we ordered a second round. I don't expect full table service at this place. I know where I am. But I also don't particularly love a setup where I place my own order, essentially serve myself through my phone, have no actual server, can't get anyone's attention when there's a problem, and then the person who finally responds to the "assistance" button acts annoyed that we require...assistance. There were so many easy ways to handle this. "Oh, I'm sorry! Let me check on it." "Sorry about the wait." "Sorry your food got cold." Honestly, just BE NICE. We weren't demanding a manager. We weren't complaining because the place was busy. We just wanted to know where the other half of our dinner was. How hard is it to be pleasant? Apparently harder than making a chicken club. I still like the beer. I usually like the vibe. The food was genuinely good. But last night's version of "service" left a whole lot to be desired. And Green Hat Lady: if a customer tells you that you could have been more pleasant, "WHAT ABOUT THAT WASN'T PLEASANT?" is perhaps not the slam-dunk rebuttal you think it is. read more

There are plenty of street parking near the Wells Fargo. This place is huge! I love the short rib pizza. I don't normally like pizza but I love this. I'm definitely more of a wine person than a beer person, so I wasn't sure this was going to be my scene. I ended up leaving pleasantly surprised. The layout is one of the best parts of the place. It's incredibly open with plenty of seating inside, and the outdoor patio with live music is a huge plus. It never felt cramped, even when it started getting busy, and it's getting harder to find places that are designed this well for hanging out. What surprised me most was the wine list. I expected maybe a couple of basic options, but they actually have a solid selection featuring some well-respected Santa Barbara producers. It wasn't just the standard Cabernet, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc either. There was enough variety that I had no problem finding something I genuinely enjoyed. Ordering through the QR code at the table was easy, and our drinks came out surprisingly fast, even during a busy rush. The system seemed to work really well. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and would definitely come back. The crowd isn't exactly my personal vibe, but that's completely subjective and didn't take away from the experience. If you're a wine drinker who's hesitant about going to a brewery, don't write this place off. There's a good chance you'll be pleasantly surprised too. read more

Manager Brooke: I've been to plenty of bars with mediocre service, but I've never seen management actively make a place worse quite like this. The manager, Brooke, was unbelievably catty, condescending, and completely lacking the professionalism you'd expect from someone running a hospitality business. Instead of making guests feel welcome, the attitude made it feel like customers were an inconvenience. What really crossed the line were racial comments made during our experience. There's a massive difference between having an edgy personality and saying things that are inappropriate and offensive. A manager should be the person setting the standard for the staff, not the reason guests leave uncomfortable. The bar itself has potential, which honestly makes the whole thing more frustrating. Hospitality is supposed to be about making people want to come back. This manager accomplished the exact opposite. read more

Tarantula Hill Brewing Co. was a first for us. We met friends there for Sunday lunch, but this was really a scouting visit to see if it would work as an event venue. The space is huge - with lots of seating out front, inside, and out back. There are fire pits in the front, a stage in the back, and plenty of room for tables and mingling. From an event perspective, it's a great setup and very flexible. The service model is more DIY than we expected. You grab your own water at the bar, and to order food or drinks, you either stand in line (separate lines for bar, ice cream, and pizza) or scan a QR code at your table. At first, I rolled my eyes at having to order on my phone (hello, COVID flashbacks), but for this kind of place, it actually works really well. One person can open a tab, others can add to it, and you close out at the end. Mid-meal, I wanted another Diet Coke--two taps on my phone, and it arrived in under a minute. That's faster than traditional table service. There are also lots of TVs inside, so if sports are your thing, you'll be happy. The menu has something for everyone, but the food itself was just okay. We ordered a chicken wrap, a vegan sandwich, ahi tuna tacos, and a Hawaiian pizza. Ironically, the tater tots were the crowd favorite. This place really wins on ambiance, layout, and ease of service. The food isn't the draw--but the vibe absolutely is. Will we be back? Yes. We're planning to work with them on hosting an event. You really can't beat the atmosphere. read more

He said he's the manager I see the way he treats the workers bc I'm very observant and it's not a good look. I was excited to go back after eating there once but was very disappointed. We paid $83 for two people and the shrimp burrito was burnt black on the outside and very very salty. I couldn't eat it. My brothers veggie plate was old, pre-stored and cut vegetables and they even left the seeds and stem on the peppers. We could only eat my husbands fajita burrito which was decent. I think we will opt for other options in the area next time. The space is nice and had good a/c but other thank that, not going back. A great local brewery with plenty of space! There's seating in the front, inside and in the back where you seat yourself. It's great for large parties. It can get pretty crowded especially on weekends and even on weekdays after work hours. You can either order at the table using the QR code or in line. I would say the food is overpriced, but I still love the bbq chicken pizza and pretzel. My go to and favorite beer of all time is the liquid candy hazy IPA because it's super smooth. Biggest downside is the parking. It's limited to a very small parking lot and street parking. read more

I absolutely love this place. Plenty of space inside and outside for larger groups or for the solo traveler like myself. I'm here at lease once a week as it is close to my house. The beer selection is top notch, they have it all with more beers than most breweries in the area along with cans to buy and take out. Pizzas, tacos, and other street food on the menu are fresh very tasty. Massive TVs behind the bar for your viewing needs, they also have another bar that I beleive is dedicated to cockatil service. I like Tarantula Hill as it is close to where I live and has a great selection of brews on tap. Located in an old furniture store there is plenty of room for all the vats and piping. They have a good food selection and I heard that they plan to cater to World Cup viewing. Check it out, both indoor and patio dining and drinking. Great for those upcoming summer eves! read more

Tarantula Hill is our go-to hangout spot with friends and family. There's a ton of indoor seating as well as outdoor tables in the front and back of the brewery. This place can get pretty crowded on weekends because there's nothing really like it in town. Tarantula has a pretty solid beer list with something for everyone. They always have a selection of IPAs and lighter offerings. The beer menu also features guest taps in addition to Tarantula's locally brewed crafts. I've never had a cocktail here, but they do have spirits as well. The food menu consists of standard bar fare like chicken strips and sandwiches, but they also have their own in-house pizza oven that whips up decent pies. There are healthier options like salads for those watching their figure. As a bonus, they also have ice cream by the scoop. Never been here before but decided to have dinner before Reign of Terror Haunted House. Driving up, we were SUPER surprised to see how Large this brewery was but also how PACKED it was!! Never seen anything like this before at a brewery lol so we were worried we wouldn't find any seating. Parking is awful, we drove around a few times and finally found one like a block away along the street and just walked. Our friend luckily got a table out in the patio, cold, but seats nonetheless. They allow you to order through your phone which is super convenient and they quickly deliver the food which is nice. We had to wait maybe 20 mins for the 20 pc bbq wings for some reason but everything else like drinks, pepperoni pizza, and garlic bread came really quick. The food here is fantastic and loved my Shirley temple that I somehow managed to forget a pic lol. Looking forward to dining here again, especially since one of our other friends couldn't make it. Stopped by on a Sunday night and they had Cumbia live band going on in the back. We didn't want to go because we were looking more for a chill night. We went inside and ordered food and drinks. The adobo fries were sooo good with some ranch. My husband ordered wings and they were def on the spicy side. My first time coming here, and have to say I had a good time. The security upfront was very nice. We went an ordered drinks, it was a bit of a line but it went by quickly. The place is pretty crowded, so a little bit hard to find seats at first, but once we did it was nice to relax. Had a terrific first experience at this local brewery! What a delightful surprise. The staff gave me some samples and I settled on the Dankerman 3 IPA... it was legit. Good hop flavor with balanced finish. I definitely want to try the Liquid Candy next time. The food options look amazing even though I wasn't able to try anytime this time. There is a pizza concept, ice cream concept, coffee menu and full bar. I could definitely see myself hanging out on a weekend with friends or to watch a game. Really awesome atmosphere with open space and plentiful seating. The outdoor porches are really inviting. Can't wait to go back and have another awesome visit soon. read more

Do Not Go Here! This place has the worst customer service ever! Rude Bartenders, Servers, and especially, Security. This place has expensive drinks & lousy food. This was a horrible experience to say the least. I've never been harassed by anyone, especially, Security. They literally harassed my girl friend and I for absolutely no reason. Watch out for Michael, especially. All of them, should be ashamed of themselves, with their attitude. As retired LE, please be aware of this establishment, and the shady tactics of Security. Went here for Superbowl Sunday this past weekend. Popular craft brewery in Thousand Oaks. To start off with beers, El Rey, Blonde Ale and Smiling Samurai were my top picks. The Neapolitan-style BBQ chicken pizza and buffalo wings were great. Big open space with a lively atmosphere. They brew on-site with a wide selection of beers. Service was good overall, clean/organized setup and ordering was convenient with table ordering option via app. Couldn't enjoy the game or the halftime show as much since it was loud and TV/Projector volumes were low. Location is also dog-friendly on the outdoor deck. Great for casual outings but perhaps less ideal if you want a quiet meal. Parking wasn't much of an issue, with plenty of street parking available. If you're in the Conejo Valley area, it's worth checking out, especially for their beers. read more

First visit to this brewery and it was a positive one. They have a huge inside seating area with various high tops and picnic type tables and lots of bar seating, plus they have a huge outdoor patio. They have large screen TVs displaying whatever sports are on, so that is a bonus. The food is standard but should meet the needs of your party - they have a nice looking pizza oven, but we went with trying a Cubano sandwich (pretty good - liked the pickles, bread was just meh - not panini style as I prefer), tots were tasty, and the spring peach goat cheese salad was pretty good. Round it out with a good selection of local craft beer plus a few rotating guest taps and it is a worthwhile stop. It was the perfect spot to end or start the night after our concert. they have have so many beer selections. we had their liquid candy colada, razzle dazzle sour, Tarantula Hill blonde and succulent sipper seltzer. we also ordered food. please note you have to take a seat first to place the order via a QR code or if you order at a bar then you must give them the table # so that they can send you the food you order.
