We have hired Flannerys Handiman twice, originally on the recommendation of a friend who also loved them. They have been respectful, timely, and careful workers. We did not have much notice for moving our dad and they fit him in meeting our timing pressures both times. They' were very patient with the clutter and size of the furniture and were helpful in removing furniture that we did not have a destination for. We wished the extra furniture could be donated, but couches are regulated and could not be donated so they dumped them for a fee. We will hire them again and recommend them highly! read more

This moving company came highly recommended to me and they had the most reasonable rates, so we chose them. I had to move my office within the city of Salem but I was downsizing so they not only had to bring stuff to my new office but also to my home. There were 2 gentlemen who did the work, Jay and Julio, and they were delightful to work with! They went above and beyond. They were patient and listened to what we had to say. It was a very positive experience. We appreciated their efforts and their pleasant demeanor. We ended up chatting and looking at photos of our dogs when they were finished. IT WAS A 5 STAR EXPERIENCE so they deserved a generous tip. However, the reason I gave the review 4 stars is that the company policy is that they do not charge for partial hours. The move took 3 1/2 hours but they charged us for 4. I was so taken aback I paid for the 4 but when I thought about it more I realized it was not fair. Not only were we not informed of this policy, the phone rep insisted an hourly rate means you pay the full hour. I have never heard of or experienced this in my entire life. Anyone who charges by the hour, charges for partial hours. After learning about this policy, I called other movers and some even broke it down to 15 minute segments. After a few emails from me, they did the right thing and refunded the half hour and I strongly encouraged them to make this policy clear from the beginning. I cannot believe I am the first person to take issue with this policy but I did not see it mentioned in any other reviews. So I felt the need to make potential customers aware. If I had known about their policy from the beginning it would have made a huge difference. read more

This is my 3rd time using this excellent moving service. The movers have been wonderful. They arrive on time if not slightly early. No job is too big or too small. They treat all items as if it is their own. The fee for their service is very reasonable. They always ask and never assume - which I love. If you ever need moving services, junk removal, or demolition services, Flannery's is the company to hire. They make the process streamlined from the initial call to the billing. Their employees are on time, organized and get the job done on schedule as planned initially with the estimator. Most recently I had a demo job done with insulation, horse hair plaster and other debris to remove and the crew did their work very efficiently and cleaned up so well that I hardly had to lift a finger after they left. Basement clean out I had an excellent experience with Flannery's handyman. The scheduling was easy and communication seamless. When I inquired during the scheduling if they would " take this and that" the answer was "we take everything!" They're really expensive and you don't get what you pay for. What they charge hourly for 2 guys and the truck is more than I've ever paid for 3 men with a truck even in September, peak season. I hired them for a couch removal and move. I think they are 5*s as a removal company, a generous 1* as a moving company. The employees are all very polite & considerate & respectful. Very professional. They got the couch I was junking out very efficiently. I would not hire this company again for moving service. WARNING They don't use moving blankets or the rolls of protective plastic wrap that every other moving company on the planet uses. They don't seem able to move things with care or delicacy. The men moved extremely fast to the point of carelessness and as a result dropped things down the stairs. I saw one guy carrying 4 boxes at once, one on top of the other in a tower. Nobody should try to maneuver stairs like that, even a professional mover. Needless to say I opened one of those boxes and discovered half the CORELLE bowls in it shattered despite the bubble wrap - these guys managed to break the unbreakable! I didn't even know it was possible to break corelle. Almost all my artwork is damaged. Apparently my picture frames and wall mirror all look like they were just thrown in the back of a truck with no care and no protection, because they were thrown in the back of a truck without care or protection. They are chipped & dented & scratched now. When I called to make the appointment I told the scheduler that I needed artwork moved and I wish they had told me they don't usually handle that and warned me that they don't have the protective materials most moving companies use IE those blue moving blankets and big rolls of plastic wrap. I see other reviewers mentioning this. When somebody is moving art I would think that requiring such things is obvious. So, now I'm out the better part of a grand for the bill and I'm also looking at thousands of dollars in damage to my art and items. They're a 5* junk removal company but keep in mind that if you hire them for a MOVE, they will treat your property like junk. read more

Very small move of a few boxes and a cabinet. Flannery's gets one star because they did not steal or damage my stuff. Otherwise, move could not have gone worse. Day of move: - After about an hour of waiting, I called. My move had been forgotten about. Finally, they sent two movers with a truck. - Flannery's truck followed me in my car from point A to point B, 10 minutes away. Except they missed when I turned, around minute 9. - Apparently they never realized this. I had to call to alert them after 5 minutes passed and I heard nothing from them. I think they somehow thought they were still following me! - At the end of the move, they attempted to charge me a minimum hourly fee, even though I was told when I booked there was no minimum. This small move went so poorly, they probably shouldn't have charged me at all. read more

I engaged the services of FlanneryHandmen (781-775-9943) in January 2021 to move me from 1980 Commonwealth Ave, Unit 67 (6th floor), Brighton, MA 02135 to the first floor of a two-family home in Newton, MA. At the time of the move, Flannery's was reportedly located at 111 Locust Street, Lynn, MA 01904 with the owner residing in Swampscott, MA. The contact person was given as "rory@flanneryshandymen.com". A certificate of Liability Insurance was issued by an insurance company, Farquhar & Black, at 85 Exchange Street, Suite 101, Lynn, MA 01901-1475.(781-581-3940). Contact person: CK. (781-599-2200). I also requested references and was provided 3. One of the three references- (a woman) provided very favorable comments- the other two were unavailable. The move took place on Thursday January 28, 2021, and began approximately 8:30 AM as one of the movers reportedly had a flat tire earlier in the morning. End move concluded approximately 4:30PM when the truck was finally unloaded at 34 Hilltop Street. Paid the invoice ($1445.00) by credit card and tipped each of the 3 movers who were great. When I finally cleared boxes which were stacked on tables and surfaces (February 21), I discovered two pieces of furniture--both Pottery Barn--with chips on the veneer surfaces. (One a black cadenza and the other a black desk, matching style.). Took pictures of both and emailed details to Rory. I also followed up with several phone calls as my initial email went unanswered. Called again Feb 23, 24 and 25th and left messages. No response. I then called the insurance company and spoke with Christopher Kennedy, who said he would follow up. There was NO response or follow up. On March 18, 2021, I filed a Small Claims court document with the Trial Court of Massachusetts at 1309 Washington Street, Newton, MA 02465-2011 to try to effect a resolution for $750.00 damages for the two pieces of Pottery Barn furniture. Pictures of the damaged surfaces were included in the application. Court date was May 26, 2022. (Delay due to Covid 19). The docket number: 2112SC000072. No one from FlannerysHandmen appeared in court. A judgment was found in my favor with a total award of $894.26, compounded with interest. I was provided with a Capias and advised to contact the Swampscott Town Manager as the principal owner of the moving business resided in Swampscott. The Town Manager provided names and phone number of two presumed constables. The phone numbers provided were inaccurate and I re-contacted the Town Manager who said he would get back to me. (He did not). On February 9, 2023, I again contacted the Newton Small Claims court to obtain additional steps to resolve this matter and told to contact the Essex County Sheriff's department to engage a sheriff to serve a warrant to FlannerysHandymen, with a location at 250 Canal Street, Salem MA. (781-775-9943) The Customer Service of this company is NON-EXISTANT! read more

Showed up on time and were quick. There's the 2 stars. Did not have booties and were moving our stuff in the middle of winter with tons of slush and salt on the ground. Did not have tarps to cover the floors and tracked in everything that stuck to their boots. They damaged both of my beds and when I pointed it out their answer was "oh you can't even see that when the night stand is there". They do not wrap anything to ensure a safe arrival and had only a few blankets. Very unprofessional and left my new house a mess that took me hours to clean. Do not hire them for moving. read more

Hired Todd Flannery's for a local move, downtown Salem Condo to Salem Storage. The experience was horrific and would not recommend this company to move anything that you value. The quote to move was estimated at $400 and the final charge was over $1000. One experienced worker and one new guy to move three rooms of furniture. My cherry dining room table was scratched, one table leg had a chunk of wood taken out of it, dining chairs have scratches and large gouges on the arms, Flat Screen TV was broken off it's pedestal, missing chair cushion from one of a matching pair of living room chairs so now both have to be reupholstered, cherry entertainment center has large gouge on the top of it and the back panel is torn, iron bed has scratches all over it, armoire has deep gouges in the side of it, pine desk has the tables completely broken off, missing one parsons chair slip cover so have to replace with two new ones so they all match again, crushed pottery, glassware and tableware, ottoman was heavily soiled from grease inside the moving truck, mattress has a long cut on the underside, soiled sofa even though I purchased plastic covers for all the furniture including blankets to cover. Todd showed up on the day the Bekins movers came to pack my belongings, stated he would bring his adjustor and showed up alone and then left. When I called to ask why he walked out he stated he was being abused, Todd is operating without license to move in the state of MA, he states he has insurance to cover damage and promotes his business as a mover and hauler including insurance. When I asked to file a claim he told me to get a lawyer. Todd is not an honorable man and is operating a moving business illegally. Beware he will overcharge you and back you in a corner using intimidation tactics to force payment. His workers are overworked and inexperienced, when these two boys were working way past 5:00p Todd never even showed up to help them. The boys never had lunch or dinner showed up two hours late and were exhausted, they worked over eight hours to move boxes and three rooms of furniture into a moving truck. When I moved in to this same condo five years earlier, three movers were able to move the same amount of furniture in less than two hours so go figure. When talking with Todd on the phone he accused me of being a woman who prey's on small businesses to extort money and this was a tactic in order to pay for my cross country move. I have photos to show how the furniture was loaded in the back of the truck (taken by my neighbor) and also photos of how the furniture was stored in storage unit.
