And inexpensive. Don't make the same mistake I did though - I grabbed a Snapple and it nearly cost half the price of my meal. What I didn't like: The cashier decided to come out and vigorously sweep the floors while I was sitting with my co-worker eating. Really? Like any other flame broiler. Only thing I don't like is that they are stingy with the meat. Today my whole bowl was mostly rice and the bowl was less than half filled. The thing I really don't like about this place is that I always feel rushed trying to get the magic sauce and hot sauce. Still a healthy choice though. read more

I have seen this place many times on the way to work and have meant to stop by. Today it sounded like the perfect option. I looked it up on line to get an idea of what they offered. Yelp seemed to think it was a good lunch option so why not? I ordered the beef and veggie bowl. I was thinking mini but then opted for the regular. Both are the same price although the mini comes with a soda. Good marketing and pricing strategy, I guess- they keep their margin. The regular was a good size but if I weren't so hungry then the mini would have been good enough, maybe. (I'm not sure if it's all rice or actually has some substance to it). The food was okay. There is nothing to write home about. The big selling point of this place is the nutrition, lack of chemicals, etc. I have found that if you want a healthier option that sometimes you have to deal with something a bit blander. I opted not to use the soy sauce that would have added some sort of taste. It's a catch 22 for me because I would love to say this was amazing AND healthy but I'm not sure it was either (and I'm not sure you could get both!). For the amount of calories in a regular bowl you'd be better off going to Subway (I hate to say it, but it's true!). I'll probably come back here because I like the idea of a good bowl that is healthy (and I know it's nutritional makeup). I'll do what I did today- skip on the rice portion of it and focus on the beef and veggies. The price isn't horrible and it's convenient. Nonetheless, relative to other experiences, I can't give this place more than 3 stars. read more

I'm seeing more and more of these "Yoshinoya"-ish rice bowl places. Mainly grilled chicken and beef.... I've been coming here regularly up until about two years ago when I stopped working in the area. Since I'm working in the area again, I was back to eat here again. There was a distinct change from before. They don't charge extra for brown rich. They used to charge extra (I believe $0.50) for it. The 'magic sauce' which really makes the chicken bowl taste good seems to have a lot of sugary substance along with possibly MSG. The sauce is on the side, not directly in the bowl, so you can use the amount you want. It used to be poured on top of your bowl.... sometimes too much. So, these are definitely changes for the better. The brown rice was drying out and several of the pieces were so hard they hurt my teeth. This has to change.... The brown rice was left in the rice cooker/warmer for too long.... BOO! I think this place is suppose to be a healthier option from Yoshinoya, but I don't know how much better it really is.... I'm pretty sure that this is much better than a burger with fries. Well, for old time sake, I'll be going back to eat again. But, if they're brown rice is hard like this time, I'll have to consider finding a different option for lunch. read more

Why are the different locations SO inconsistent? I've been going to the Alhambra one in the past. I usually order a bowl for the wife, and a side of meat for myself (I dont want the rice). Alhambra gives a big side which is enough for lunch. My favorite post-workout meal location! I call and place my order as I'm driving, and the food is always ready by the time I arrive. The staff can sometimes appear to hate life, but if you talk to them you'll find that they're friendly. There can be a line of customers, especially during lunch time, but it's never TOO bad. I have been to many Flame Broilers since high school. I even eaten at the first location in Fullerton and this particular location meets your expectation on what all Flame Broilers should be like. I always get the half chicken & beef, their rice is always cooked perfectly and their sauce is always yummy and not too sweet. If you looking for the gooey thick teriyaki sauce, this place isn't for you. Try going to Yoshinoya. This location is always clean, the staff is friendly and you don't have to pay extra for brown rice. I just hope they open more locations near my work in W. LA. Tip: There are always coupons for this location in the Penny Saver. If don't receive the penny saver, you can at least order your food online and receive 10% off. read more

The food is good. I had the chicken and beef combo bowl iver rice and veggies. The chicken was tender since it was dark meat however, the beef leaves little to be desired. Itnis not tender, it is more chewy. This is what I have experienced at all the flame broilers I've eaten at. Waba Grill's beef is 10x better. I like that they finally offer avocado. read more
