Everything here was take out so the Ninja Bowl I got was packed to the brim. It was a bit hard to eat out of, but it was still very good!! Flake is a trendy little spot in Venice that is a perfect place to grab a snack to help you recover from a hangover. It has yummy breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and great cold brew. We recently went during the pandemic and the line and wait weren't too bad. It flew by super quick and we were able to enjoy our sandwiches in the nice LA weather. We ordered: -Breakwater Bagel comes with scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, and a choice of ham or bacon on a toasted bagel served with a side of their secret sauce. I got mine with bacon and it was perfection on a bagel. Honestly, I probably could have eaten 2 or even 3 of these bagel sandwiches. That's how good it was! -The Croissan-wich Jones comes with scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and Cheddar Cheese on a toasted croissant. My husband LOVES croissant sandwiches and this was his favorite thing that we ate on our trip. It was perfectly flaky, had crispy bacon, and the egg didn't make anything soggy. So good!!! Yup, even though I have Hawaiian roots and Paulo has Brazilian roots we both connected as friends and later brothers. So Paulo was in Venice, CA recently before flying back to his native São Paulo, Brazil. Of course, I had to see him off before he left The Republic of California. I also convinced Paulo that I'm the King of this great Republic... hey why not! Arnold did it, dude! So I drive 383.6 miles from San Francisco to Venice, CA to say "Aloha Brah"... As a goodbye gift I decide to get us Açaí bowls. We both love it, almost as much as women in Brazilian bikinis, but hey that's for another website. Back to Açaí bowls... it's something we talked about... legit Açaí bowls vs. touristy Açaí bowls. The difference in the berries, purée, fresh, texture, etc. I mean c'mon now. The Açaí bowl originated from Brazil and Paulo is Brazilian who loves the fruity bowls... let's go, brah! I choose Flake on Rose Ave. in Venice because (1) it was near where he was staying; (2) the high rated reviews; (3) they have Açaí bowls! So Flake it is! It was hot and humid in Venice on the day we met and it had nothing to do with Daisy Fuentes in Brazilian string bikini (tho she's really Cuban). We meet outside and the line was out the door! No worries we are told... it moves fast! And indeed it moved, yet no worries as we weren't in a rush, especially with Marley playing above us! One love, dude. We peruse the eclectic menu, but stick with our original plans. Since I'm treating, Paulo decides to get the Ninja Bowl which so happens to be the most expensive at $13 lol, but pretty much includes everything that goes into an Açaí bowl. Damn these Brazilians are smart lol! I choose the basic Açaí bowl for $8. The basic includes sliced bananas, granola, honey, and Açaí. That's $21 in fruit, brah. The place is packed with the younger to earthy crowd, hipsters to hippies to surfers all eating in harmony. We luckily find seats outside next to some attractive French women. Not by design, but I'm not complaining. Paulo and I talk about everything from cover bands to ick politics, and after a few minutes our Açaí bowls are delivered to our table. We immediately dig in and I can't help notice it tasted so familiar. Hmm then I realized I'm eating Sambazon Açaí Sorbet, not exactly bad, but it's sold everywhere and I've used it at home to make my own Açaí bowls. So kind of a letdown, dude. In the end, I still recommend Flake, but if you're a Açaí connoisseur, like I am, you won't get blown away by their Açaí bowls. Trust! My review is strictly based on the Açaí sold here. I came here last weekend with a friend to grab a quick brunch. I found this place through all the great yelp reviews and it didn't disappoint. The place was easy to find and parking wasn't too bad in the surrounding neighborhood. We came on Saturday around 11 and the place was busy but there wasn't a long wait. I opted to get the turkey sausage breakfast burrito and my friend got the veggie rad with an almond milk latte. The food came out quickly, despite the line being consistently out the door. My breakfast burrito was good - packed with eggs and sausage and had a tasty tomatillo salsa on the side. I wish it had crispy hash browns or tots inside for a textural contrast but it was overall a good burrito. My friend enjoyed her breakfast sandwich and latte. I would come back here if I was craving a breakfast burrito or to try one of their many other options. Given the area, I don't think you will find anywhere else with quality food for this cheap. read more

Eggs: The best part of the burrito. It was a consistent smooth velvety texture. Smothered with presumably American cheese and a white cheese blend. The burrito would have been more enjoyable with a sharper cheese -- like American for instance. Now what little turkey sausage I got was definitely enjoyable. However, the burrito was so disproportionately more egg and cheese, that you can hardly call it a 'turkey sausage and egg' burrito. The burrito was also super basic and dry. Would have been a bit more palatable to cut maybe a bit of red pepper and onion into the mixture. One small cup of green salsa was not enough to cover the bulk of the burrito. Definitely need to request 2-3 salsa cups. read more

Fair warning: if you are someone who requires a good amount of food to be full, you should order two of the breakfast sandwiches. They aren't huge. Stopped by for breakfast and coffee on a Monday morning. I got the croissant sandwich and loved it! My friend had the vegetarian breakfast burrito which he also enjoyed. The food was filling. I'll definitely be back for breakfast here when I visit Venice again. If it's your first time going to Flake- you order at the front outside, pick up your food outside and there's tables and two benches where you can sit outside to eat. People didn't seem to hang around sitting there too much so I'm sure you'll be able to find a seat. We came here on a Sunday morning around 11am. You order at the counter, find seating and then they being your food out to you. There was only one other person in line when we got there, but it got busier around 12-1230 and the line was out the door. Limited seating - there were 6-7 tables inside that seat 2 each and some outdoor seating but people seemed to their food and then leave as opposed to taking their time. We ordered the clubhouse croissant with chips the manwich with salad (~$25 total). Both dishes had excellent flavor and the spreads that they put on the sandwiches tastes amazing. Salad had a vinaigrette that complemented the sandwiches well. Street parking only but it was pretty easy to find in the neighborhood next to the cafe. read more

This place was super busy and seemed more like a good place to pick up food to go. The food was relatively inexpensive, delicious, and the staff was super nice. If you're gluten free, don't forget I puke up some banana bread (moist and flavorful). It's a small space and they don't have a parking lot, so you need to fight for street parking. Even thought there's normally a line, it goes by pretty fast and you get your food in a timely manner. If you're able to get a seat, it's pretty cramped, but not so much that it's a crappy experience. This is a small space, but the decor and vibe match Venice perfectly. read more

Just a few outdoor tables to sit, most people usually grab their orders to go elsewhere with. I have now tried quite a bit of the menu and I have to say my favorite is the Poseidons Wrap - a delicious tuna wrap that uses the secret sauce. The classic cronut breakfast sandwich is a little overhyped but still very good and I also enjoyed the vegan breakfast burrito. This neighborhood spot was the perfect place to begin a Saturday at the beach. Parking was a non issue, the dog was included because they have outdoor tables. Order at the corner window and pick out a place to sit. The turnover is quick, we didn't have to wait for our table. (Be prepared! I was not impressed with my experience at Flake despite it being a pretty popular place, and it may have just been what I ordered. I ordered the Turkey Sausage Burrito which was a decent size and the turkey sausage inside was good, the only problem was that there was barely any sausage in the burrito at all. The burrito was about 90% eggs which wasn't my favorite and the center of the burrito was mostly hollow. I've had better breakfast burritos that have other meat combinations, or include hash browns, potatoes, or even avocados in the burrito - this had none of that. The green salsa they included with it was basically water with a little bit of salsa in it. To top it off there is limited outdoor seating so most people left and we ate at one of their tables with no chairs. read more

I'm used to more generous acai bowls being from Orange County, but the flavors were good and really hit the spot. My boyfriend got a sandwich with chicken and pickled onions and avocado which was pretty tasty! Overall the food was decent but I'm not sure why this place is as popular as it is. Best bet may be to ride-share, as we did. Ambiance: Classic, American breakfast spot is what you're getting here all the way. There are no servers, just walk up and order what want you and food is brought out it brought out to you within five minutes or so. Food. The food here is good. No like, really good. Too often, people half-ass the quality and presentation of breakfast, NOT so here at Flake. Just look at the presentation of the fruit salad and quiche (see pics). Everything ordered was excellent. All breakfast sandwiches are NOT created equal and the one they serve up here is amazing. The croissant is super soft and flaky. The bacon is of decent quality and was fried well.
