I encountered one of their patrons smoking a cigarette. His friend was vaping. This is illegal in California. Los Angeles city ordinances have prohibited smoking in outside dining areas since 2011. When I alerted the store to this, they did nothing while their patron verbally assaulted me for raising the issue. I've lived here all my life and for some reason was always on my way to or from somewhere and never had enough time to just stop and give this place a try. Well, I finally did and I'm glad. I had a fresh bagel and cream cheese and realized I had forgotten to ask for tomatoes. When I told him I wanted to pay to add tomatoes he told me not to worry about it! I love that this is an independent business. The cafe was nice and clean, which I appreciated. I will definitely make time to go back. The staff are really sweet and helpful, they recommended the spicy chicken burrito (which was HUGE and very tasty). Pricing is pretty standard for Venice Beach (approx. $25/person for each to get a meal and drink). I want to emphasize that their portions are HEFTY and make the price definitely worth it. We were told this was a "hip" place in Venice to stop for a coffee while touring around. I have to say, I was super disappointed with the experience. I had a huge group that came in, probably almost 15 people and everyone got a coffee. The woman working was very sweet, but it was the product that was the issue. I don't think there was one person in our group who said they enjoyed their coffee. And a majority got lattes- fairly simple and standard drinks yet they tasted just, off. I'm not sure what it was but I don't think I'd come here again, for coffee at least.
