AVOCADO TARTINE
Reyna J.

Good service, good food and good size portions. Only thing is it's a bit pricey, but we enjoyed it!

Lemon Tart
Emeline L.

Cute spot, good food, a little pricey. Food 4/5 Lemon Tart - I could one of these every day. It's got the perfect amount of tartness, and I loooooved how creamy it was. Smoked Salmon Tartine - Delicious. Loved the pickled carrots on the side too. Soft Scramble Tartine + Bacon - Yum!! The egg is like Gordan Ramsey style, love the creaminess of it. Ikura was a nice touch. Each tartine was about $20. Not exactly a cheap meal that might not fill you up all the way. Service 4/5 Standard, nothing special. Ambiance 4/5 Lots of seating indoor and outdoor. Indoors can get very loud and echo-y. It was pretty chilly outside during the day. Overall, I did enjoy this spot. Would definitely come back for the lemon tart.

Front patio

The last couple of times I came here, the outside patio wasn't available. The staff either didn't bother to set up the space or broke it down early. Today, 15 minutes before closing, they put up all chairs as if they wanted us to leave. Not very welcoming. I will take my business elsewhere.

Turkey sandwich

I found out about Tartine because I listen to Jeff Lewis. Apparently, this is a fav spot of his. Cute atmosphere. Very clean. I ordered 2 sandwiches To Go. -Fresh turkey sandwich cut off the bird. Moist and delicious. -Tuna sandwich with pickle hit the spot. Staff was friendly. They have merch and pastries for sale as well. Nice big & open place. Indoor & outside seating. I have tried a few spots because of Jeff Lewis and so far, no disappointments.

Smoked salmon tartine (-bread, +salad)
Pedro D.

They were very understanding of my gluten intolerance (I know I shouldn't be going to a bakery but I was in a group) and made me feel welcomed and seen by subbing my bread for salad on a smoked salmon tartine. It was DELICIOUS

The color was off, it was gritty, and tasted like low quality matcha.
Aka Y.

Very disappointed with the matcha latte. The matcha was gritty with undissolved bits, the color looked dull instead of vibrant green, and the taste was poor. Definitely not ordering matcha here again.

Outside and seating

This is very close to my house so I thought I'd give it a try. It is very spacious and clean inside with a lot of seating. There is also plenty of seating outside. I immediately saw they had a small lemon tart which I then felt like I couldn't live without. I ordered that and a cup of coffee. The tart was delicious but I thought that $11.50 was a bit high for it. You order at a counter and the service was friendly. There is apparently underground free parking, which for Santa Monica, is a big deal.

SOFT SCRAMBLE TARTINE

This was my fourth visit to Tartine (Venice location) solely for this toast. It's delicious and their coffee is also great. Ambiance is nice but they do not have public wifi (relevant if you're wanting to stop in and do some work while you eat). Highly recommend and can't wait for visit #5!!

Pastry options

Lovely cafe - bright, spacious and with good food and beverage options. Wish they had more vegan & vegetarian options.... In the pastry section, they had a vegan crumb cake and a vegan cornmeal cake. The only vegan item we could have on the breakfast menu was the Avocado Tartine, which was very pricey but also very tasty. The bread was INCREDIBLE - fluffy and flavorful; avocado was fresh and seasoning was lemony & good. Almond milk cappuccino was strong and aromatic. Parking garage was easy to access with free parking. $28 for the tartine and coffee. Expensive! But I guess you could pay for the pleasant ambience and attentive service.

I stopped by for a quick cappuccino and ended up getting a ginger cookie, sweet and gingery! I had no idea they had opened this past June. Tartine offers a good variety of breakfast, tartines, pasties and bread options to grab and go! The ambiance is open, with music playing, you'll experience different scents coming from the open kitchen, and the big doors let the breeze in! Staff is friendly and service is quick! Why my rating is not a perfect 5 is because of the high pricing for their offerings. Free parking downstairs!

Croissant
Benjamin S.

Had the opportunity to try the recently opened Tartine this morning. Was disappointed they didn't have French Toast (explanation: no bread???) but tried the croissant, soft scramble, and avocado tartine, as well as a latte. The premises was nice and open with some outdoor seating. Each item purchased was well-made/good and used quality ingredients, but I couldn't help feeling each was about 15-20% more expensive than other similar, comparable bakery restaurants in the area.

We were lucky enough to find a metered street spot directly in front of the restaurant and did not have to wait long at all for our Saturday morning brunch for a table of two. Our server was also very polite and everything that we ordered came out very fast. I started off with the Iced Maple Latte and thought it was really nice. It was a really sweet treat and I enjoyed it. For my breakfast, I chose the Eggs Benedict with the Sujuk sausage and added avocado and croissant. It was one of the best combos I've had in a long time and I am already eager to go back again to get it. I would highly recommend to everyone and would happily say this is one of my favorite breakfast options around.

We agreed to outside patio seating at tall seats which is more than fine. but we were sat at a shared table with a family which is fine when you have context that you are doing so, but i spent the beginning of the morning listening to two different children play of their phones blasting the sound. additionally both the seats we were in were directly in the sun which for me is fine but my bf burns very easily. but okay fine, it is what it is. We politely waited until the table next to us emptied, and then told the waitress we would like to move because the sun. She said we would need to wait and she would need to check. And then came back and told us they were too busy. We watched the seat we wanted to sit in be empty until we asked for boxes for our food. We watched another table stay empty until we left. The waitress never introduced herself either. Additionally, no one checked up on us during the entire meal. Usually any sit down restaurant would ask how your meal is. No one did. we weren't even given silverware when our meals arrived. we had to go get them ourselves. We had to ask for boxes after sitting and waiting for anyone to check in. We separately had to call out to the oblivious waitress to even pay, as she was standing out there just looking around. The food was great, like i wish we would have had cash to tip the cooks themselves bc the food was really good. But Ive attached photos of the food (great!) and photos of the many empty tables that made them sooo busy they cldnt accommodate the paying costumers that already ordered. my boyfriend and I have both worked in the service industry before. But i would just say that they had horrible service which can ruin a perfectly good meal. I hope if the owner is the one I met at the door, he considers getting new waitresses .

I used to go to the location on Montana back in the day, and this is my first time visiting their downtown SM location! Food, as I remember, was very delicious with great variety and care put in for each dish! The waiter was also extremely accommodating of my many allergies and would often ask the kitchen if the items I ordered were free from my allergens or modified it too! I do miss their cafe menu with the sandwiches and soup specials, but all of their food is just as great quality as I remember! The renovation is beautiful too, very trendy!

A little on the watery side. Chicken bites came out in about 15 minutes. The coating had a very satisfying crunch, very saucy, but fell off the chicken easily and was a bit salty. This is a messy dish for sure. You will get your hands dirty! Chorizo Benedict came out about 30 minutes after order. Not great honestly. Portion size was generous. The eggs were poached decently, still runny, but the chorizo itself was bland and rather dry. The potatoes were room temperature. The bread a bit too chewy. Not AT ALL spicy. Super light on the pico de gallo. The service was rather slow for not being very busy. They didn't appear to be understaffed either. The location itself is cozy and not too loud, which is nice! Short walk from down town. The staff was kind, but boy were they slow. From being seated to paying for my meal was well over an hour! Automatic 2.5% "service fee" total was $46.50 before tip. I don't think I'll be returning unfortunately. The search for a good Benedict in LA area continues!

Sitting on the outdoor patio gives you an interrupted view of the pool; sitting in the covered patio makes you feel like you're in a plant-filled bistro, and sitting by the bar allows for more sociability. They have the best Spritz in town, though I swap aperol with elderflower. A good caesar salad is a marker of a quality restaurant and theirs is my absolute favorite. The lettuce is fresh, portion is big, and they shave the breadcrumbs so you're not gnawing on a giant crouton. The scallops are one of the best things on the menu, as they come in a flavorful sauce and beautiful presentation. The agnolotti is the best pasta -- it's handmade, smells divine, and achieves the perfect caviar-cream-Parmesan bite. The service is attentive and helpful, offering the best menu recs and ensuring we order everything we want within the discounted hour. Very disappointing experience. We ordered a Mediterranean…read moresalad and a Caesar wrap, and surprisingly, both tasted almost identical. Both had the same Parmesan cheese and similar dressings that were extremely salty. The croutons were dry and stale-tasting, and the chicken we added to both dishes was incredibly dry and tasted anything but fresh. What makes this even more disappointing is that this place used to have the charm and quality of a good French-Mediterranean café. You would expect fresh ingredients, great bread, quality pastries, and thoughtfully prepared food. Unfortunately, it seems that as they've expanded, the quality has gone in the opposite direction. Nothing about the food tasted fresh, healthy, or made with quality ingredients. The excessive salt, dry chicken, and stale-tasting croutons made both dishes feel more like cheap, mass-produced food than something prepared at a proper café. There was no sense of freshness or attention to quality whatsoever. Everything tasted like it had been prepared well in advance rather than made with care. Honestly, you could pick up a prepackaged Caesar sandwich from Ralphs supermarket, and it would probably taste better. That's how bad the food was. And that's a pretty embarrassing comparison for a café that presents itself as a French-Mediterranean establishment. A French-Mediterranean café should be about freshness, quality, and flavor. Sadly, this place delivered none of those. I wouldn't recommend coming here for food. Very disappointing to see a once-good café lose what made it special.
