I think Flake is pretty good, not sure if it's 4and 1/2 good. I like that it's inland off the beach on rose. You can get a real taste for what is current Venice culture. I would go and sit on The patio for an hour and watch the people pass. The crojo sandwich is good but there is nothing truly remarkable about it. Coffees are a bit expensive. The food runner is good and offers hot sauces/ other condiments. Yeah I think it's alright. read more

loved the ambience of this poppin' little breakfast shop near Venice Beach. The line out the door proved that locals love it too. The menu is cute and has a hand written feel. The servings were ginormous. We got a fatty on a bagel, yogurt bowl, and a redneck cowboy chicken sandwich. We also got a coffee. Liked the bagel and yogurt bowl, but wasn't a super fan of the "redneck sauce" on the cowboy chicken. I was also a little surprised that our order was over $30 for breakfast to go. eeps read more

This was my first time here. Super yummy! I got the turkey croissant sandwich with a side salad and it was SO GOOD! It had turkey, bacon, cheese, greens, in a croissant Super filling and not overly greasy. The salad was simple with a balsamic vinaigrette. I would definitely come back. Reasonable price for a nice full lunch. read more

My husband was a fan of Flake for months before I tried it. What was wrong with me?? It's wonderful! Delicious bagels stuffed with fluffy eggs, crisp bacon and melted cheese served by friendly employees who seem to sincerely hope you love your breakfast? Yes! We drive about 20 minutes to get to Flake and it's worth it. Great coffee, too. LOVE! read more

I had an Açai bowl and a Donut "made me do it" for lunch. Açai bowl was very tasty but they didn't add enough Açai and it was kind of hard and frozen in chunk - I like it little smoother. The donut " made me do it" was really tasty. The lady who works there warmed up the donut for me and out side was flaky and crunchy. Inside the donut, there is a cream cheese filling and also strawberry jam. It was sooo yummy!!! read more

This is our second time visiting flake seeing as we are from the Midwest and both times have been great the açaí bowls are amazing, apparently the best that my girlfriend has had anywhere, the staff is very friendly and accommodating. Definitely a place to eat breakfast if you're in Venice. You won't be disappointed. read more

I try really hard to like this place, but the food is bland. I have been twice now, and if simple is your preference, than maybe this spot is for you, but my experience is, I wish there was more effort. A little seasoning goes a long way, and it's my opinion that a breakfast burrito should have more than plain eggs, cheese and sausage with a flavorless salsa. read more

Such a good breakfast! The Nutty Munkee (WITH BACON) was to die for. I mean, how can Nutella, bananas, peanut butter, and bacon not be amazing? Super delicious and fresh! My husband loved his Croissan-wich Jones so much that he decided to get a "Wake and Flake" t-shirt to commemorate our visit. I wish we had been able to visit more than once, because I am a total cereal lover and their bowls sound awesome too. The employees were really warm and inviting. We loved this little spot on Rose! read more

One of my favorite spots in Venice. I have had a great meal every single time. Always positive experiences with the employees. Great neighborhood joint. My only disappointment was when they switched away from Groundworks. But, certainly something that I can get over to return again and again. My staple which I highly recommend to you: Super Cro-Jo - Add avocado & extra special sauce, then split an Acai bowl with berries with friend. read more

I eat here probably once a week. Flake is a wonderful place for hangover food, or just casual brunch. The ambiance is cozy and quaint, the staff is efficient and really nice, and overall it's a great atmosphere. I'm in love with the veggie burrito and I'm so loyal to it I honestly haven't tried the rest of the menu. They make a great almond milk latte as well. read more

I live very close by and find it so hard to not pop over and have a breakfast burrito every day! I'm used to breakfast burritos stock full of different ingredients, but I really appreciate the simplicity of Flake's. Egg, bacon, cheese, and avocado. DO NOT skip the salsa! Good, but not great. Came here out on a whim. The parking is quite horrendous; there's only street parking. There is no restroom here, but you can attempt to run across the street safely and successfully to use it at Cafe Gratitude. Seating is limited indoors, but there are a few more tables outdoors, not to mention indoors is a bit cramp. Upon walking in, there's a few paper menus to look at; then you order at the counter. The menu is fairly simply and straightforward: wraps, croissant sandwiches, acai bowls, and coffee needs. After much debate and recommendations, I ordered the fatty and the sambazon acai bowl. Two thumbs up for the super patient employee, who had to deal with super lost, indecisive people. The fatty: tastes like your basic ham and cheese croissant. The croissant, itself, wasn't as buttery and flakey as I anticipated. The fillings were the only thing that made it pretty good. The cheese was perfectly melted, and the "special sauce" added something different. Sambazon acai bowl: frozen. It was definitely different from what I'm use to. Instead of a blended smoothie-like texture, it was more of a frozen sorbet. Maybe because the day I went wasn't as warm as usual, but I didn't really enjoy the sorbet-like texture. The taste was sweet, not overly sweet, but sweet enough to contrast the fruits of they were tart. On the bright side, all the fruits were sweet, so it felt like I was eating dessert the entire time! Service- basic counter service, food- pretty darn good, parking- terrible, seating- decent depending on the time of day. I probably wouldn't come back since it's no where near me, but maybe if I haven't eaten breakfast on a beach day, I'll be back. Really nothing special. read more

My wife and I came here for breakfast Sunday 12/17/17. It is one of those small, trendy, foodie type places. I ordered the Croissant-wich Jones which is a croissant with scrambled egg, bacon and cheddar sandwich. My wife ordered the Super Cro Jo breakfast sandwich which was similar to my sandwich but had greens, tomato and their special sauce on it. Both sandwiches were good and the coffee was very good. It is a small neighborhood spot with tight seating. Would go back for sure, lunch menu looked good as well. read more

I got the croissant-wich Joe (bacon egg and cheese croissant). I do think this place is over hyped. I've had this exact sandwich from a small donut shop that was bigger, cheaper and tastier than this place. The size and price to me just isn't worth it. If you decide you still want to try it, I do recommend the chipotle mayo they have. It made the sandwich taste way better. read more

This place was the highlight of my vacation! Very cute and relaxing vibe which is nice because the L.A. area can be soooo pretentious! I had the quiche which was melt in your mouth good. Not too rich but soft and flaky. I was truly yummy. My friend had the oatmeal which she loved and we both ordered bacon. Everything was amazing. The service was great. Very friendly. Overall, I loved this place. I'm sad I don't live here because I totally would become a regular. read more

I happened to enjoy the breakfast burrito, though I thought it was a bit overpriced - I did appreciate that they subbed avocado for the bacon without a charge like sooo many places seem to do. Yay for being nice to vegetarians :) Not that we're really vegetarians... but... anyway. Simple, local-feel, good vibe, outdoor/indoor tables, dog-friendly AND delicious breakfast! Two of us went to grab breakfast around 11:30am during holiday season. We got in line to order at a cashier. It took 5 mins to order and another 5 minutes to have our food served at our table. All the outdoor tables (5 or 6 of them) were taken when we got there. We had two small dogs and wanted to sit outside. Luckily, someone was leaving and we grabbed the table. I saw a few people waiting to get a table outside for 10-15mins after we grabbed ours. Instead of egg/bacon croissant, I substituted with egg/avocado. Fresh and warm. I had it with hot sauce. My girl had açai bowl. The açai was hard and rather frozen than what she's used to. She liked it but preferred silky açai better. Overall, we liked it here. We'll be back again! read more

Trendy & tiny with a sense of amusement. There are a few tables insides and a handful more outside. In the middle of a residential area and walking distance to the beach, this is a nice little weekend spot to grab a bite. Food: delish. lots of vegan/vegetarian options, fresh ingredients, and wholesome goodness. Portion sizes are small but just enough to leave you satisfied. Reggie's Veggie Club and Veggie-D Wrap are both yummy, and I believe breakfast is served all day for all you breakfast lovers. Oh, and the chocolate covered pretzel cookie is soooo good. Service: super casual, friendly, and family-like. There's some music playing in the background, and at one point, everyone behind the counter chimed in and it sounded like "meow meow meow"?? Not sure, but it's happened twice now, and you can't help but smile. read more

Yep. This place is rad. Not a great place for a big group...more like a quick breakfast stop. There is only enough seating for 20 ppl or so in the entire restaurant so and the menu is mostly breakfast sandwiches or cereal. So if you are looking for a brunch stop this is not the place. I got oatmeal with a ton of different toppings and it was perfect. My hubby got an egg sandwich and a piece of banana bread that was SO GOOD!! Coffee was very strong. Everyone that works there is super nice. :) read more

When I watch old Seinfeld episodes I'm always confused when Jerry orders cereal from a diner. You can eat that home! Flake makes it alllllll make sense. I got oatmeal today with fixins! And I want to go back on a not so rainy day and do it again with cold cereal! Does anyone really call it cold cereal? I feel like that's such a mom thing. It breaks my heart to write this, because I only like to write good reviews...... The food was decent, but the customer service was HORRIBLE!!! Please look at your receipt's after you purchase the food. I was overcharged and treated poorly. When I told the girl who took my order that the price on the menu was different than the price I paid, she argued with me, even though it was in black and white and I was showing it to her. It was only $1 difference, but how I was treated and the embarrassment of all of it was awful. It was not the price difference that mattered, it was the principle. You just don't overcharge people for no reason. She then talked to another employee who stated that they started charging more due to increase in egg prices, but had no sign up about it and the menu prices did not reflect this change. Really bad business practices. Maybe the girl was just new or something, but she was extremely rude..... I will not be back. read more
