Such a cute takeout breakfast spot! I ordered the Rad Muffin and it was so filling and delicious. I'd soo come back. Their whole menu sounded very good. The Rad Muffin comes with scrambled eggs, Black Forest ham, and American cheese toasted on an English muffin with their own secret sauce. My sandwich was also piping hot coming straight from the kitchen so it tasted very fresh and the combination of flavors was amazing. The special sauce was the perfect amount of spicy too.

Turner egg burrito and ask for avocado too. Don't miss their special sauce. Green sauce has heat not spicy

One of the best breakfast spots in Venice! I had the egg and turkey burrito with avocado. Savory. Now sweet craving for their gluten-free buttered banana bread was amazing. Breakfast of champions! Always looking for the best breakfast burrito don't happen to be in Venice. Had to try this place based on the 1000+ reviews. Called in an order, very friendly and easy to understand over the phone. Burrito was ready in five minutes, even though it was quoted 15. Tried the turkey sausage burrito with tomatillo salsa. The salsa is a solid 10, was not expecting American cheese in the burrito, but it's still good. Definitely recommend not going on a Tuesday morning since there is almost no parking with street cleaning. It's a nice corner restaurant with plenty of tables around the sides and not too much traffic noise.

Hidden gem in Venice. It's a hole in the wall that has your breakfast favorites. We got the clubhouse croissant and the rad muffin. Both were delicious and highly recommend. Tastes like homemade sandwiches grandma made. There's limited seating outside, but we got a table easily on Sunday afternoon. There's street parking on Rose or in the neighborhood for a quick walk. The cashier was so sweet he even got my dog a piece of bacon. Usually you pick up the food at the window but they will walk your food to your table if you're dining in. Can't wait to come back and try something new!

Some things are more difficult to customize online for example a coffee with a shot of espresso (my pops wanted this) so it was easier on the phone. Staff was friendly. The turkey sausage burrito was super juicy and yummy. Croissant sandwiches were good too. Parking was super easy as we went there right when the opened on a weekday. Prices were reasonable.

If you're looking for an epic breakfast sandwich, look no further than FLAKE in Venice. Please order the Super Crojo: scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, smoked Gouda cheese, tomato, greens and a secret sauce on a toasted croissant. It is perfection. It cannot be outdone. There's a nice seating area outside, but limited tables so be ready to take your sandwich on the go!

Not bad of a place at all! I was in the area trying to kill time before a meeting in Santa Monica. I got there early due to the infamous traffic. This managed for me to have an amazing breakfast! Location is just the corner within the neighborhood right before heading to the beach. It's street parking, but at 8:30am on a weekday, it's super easy and got princess parking right at the front. You walk up and there were people trickling in and out. You can tell these are locals because they all had their dogs, they all were talking to each other, asking "where's ___?". It was nice. FOOD - I was TORN between getting a bacon or turkey sausage breakfast burrito. I usually measure how good they are based on bacon, but the local behind me said I MUST get the turkey sausage. I must say, it's delicious! There is no unnecessary fluff on these. Just a simple meat, egg, cheese breakfast burrito. I do wish I got the bacon, but guess I'll just have to come back! Service was friendly, helpful, and reasonably quick! You order inside and they call you to the pick-up window outside. They have a few tables outside to enjoy your food, which I took advantage of. Very delicious and their menu looks good too! I can't wait to come back

Flake is a great quick place to check out if you are looking for brunch on Rose. You can't go wrong with the breakfast burrito and a coffee. I come here pretty regularly if I am looking for a quick bite to get my day started in Venice.

A very homey and affordable breakfast spot in Venice that serves classic breakfast food (burritos, egg sandwiches, salads and wraps). No indoor seating, with a few tables outside , it's a quick stop to get a hearty and simple breakfast in. The Reggie Veggie is delicious with eggs, cheese, lettuce and breakfast sausage (could've done without the sausage) on a whole wheat toast. It was just what I craved - simple and healthy. After reading reviews, I ordered the banana bread (buttered and toasted), and it was perfect!! Tastes homemade and so moist. Don't skip this!

Seriously delicious!! I had rhe Rad Muffin. The ham is so good! Not tough, bland or too salty. Just right! The cheese will literally melt in your mouth. And their secret sauce is the real star. It's a perfect amount of spice. It tastes like chipotle, but I could be wrong. Ordered a bacon burrito. Came with a side of tomatillo sauce. Not spicy, but so good. Just wish it was a little more, I'll make sure to order some extra on the side. Love that they perfectly wrap up your food. And it will stay warm for almost an hour. My husband had to wait for his burrito at home and it didn't need to be reheated. The coffee is great! And the service was fantastic. Very kind and helpful staff! Plenty of seating for a quick bite. I was lucky enough to get a table with some shade. This will be my spot when heading to the beach in the morning. I can't wait to come back.

We love Flake. It is around the corner from our little apartment and it's the perfect place for a quick breakfast and lunch. We love to eat outside and bring our pup. The sandwiches are delicious. - Small spot at the corner - they have both indoor and outdoor seating - Super nice staff - Open early : 7am on Sunday, which I appreciate since I'm an early morning type person I came here on two occasions and each time ordered to go. What was nice was that a staff member would come outside with my order in box and handed it to me. I thought that was efficient since they avoid cramming too many ppl indoors and I could be outside without worrying my order was ready already. As for what I got - Super cro-jo (no modifications) - very well made, croissant nicely toasted. The smoked Gouda just put this at the top of my list of bfast sandwiches So overall the cro-jo was a 5 out of 5 - Acai bowl (added berries and coconut shavings as extra) - everything was super fresh and the portions were large, but they make you pay for it (came out to be more than $10). Cool little place with good food. Cro-jo is legit. Turkey sausage breakfast burrito is super yummy, especially with the green tomatillo salsa. Eggs are perfectly cooked and avocado is fresh and delicious. They have a variety of some acai bowls that are ridonculous. Have a variety of morning coffee libations to suit your tastebuds. Place is a little small but I have always gone between 7-8 am and never had a problem with the wait or getting a seat. Staff have always been super friendly. It has a slight decor that plays on the beach theme. Every time I am in the area it is a strong contender for my breakfast needs. Definitely recommend. read more

This spot I've been eyeing for a while and wanted to try their acai bowl. It was delish. And was big! I added fruity pebbles to mine and it was beyond yummy. Went for the first time and the guy in the glasses killed my entire experience! I ordered an almond milk cappuccino and he made a latte, which is totally fine bc whoever took the order punched in a latte (ticket printed out latte). I've worked in a restaurant for MANY years so totally understandable...but what's totally unacceptable was his behavior! He got it a huff and was shaking his head "no" when he turned around - I can still see you! Then he grabbed the decaf coffee...I was done with him so just walked out without saying anything bc I just didn't want to come back! I suggest you don't work in customer service if you don't want to serve food/drinks! 9/29/16 - Update: l haven't been back...YET...but plan to do so bc of the AMAZING customer service I personally got from the owner!!! She was super friendly, quick to change my mind, and funny!!! read more

Flake is my favorite spot in Venice. I've tried almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. The prices are great, their customer service is amazing, and even though it gets super busy at times, the service is always quick. They have small indoor and outdoor seating areas if you want to eat in and if you want take out, their take out is just as good. If you are in the Venice area, I highly recommend trying flake for the croissandwich-Jones or the ninja bowl!! read more

While yelp notes the cost here is low, it's not. While the cost isn't high, it's not cheap either. Average prices for average food. We got the breakfast burrito. It was good but not spectacular. Ralphs does a better burrito as it's cheaper, bigger and better tasting. Only problem is that Ralphs has a cut-off time of 0930. Parking is difficult, the venue is tiny and I don't feel it's worth the increased hassle, the long line, the cramped facility to get average food at above average prices. read more

My husband and I stayed in Venice Beach this week and we had breakfast here two days in a row because we loved it so much. Not only is the food delicious but the espresso is on point as well! We had the breakfast burrito, oatmeal with banana and coconut, breakfast croissant, and a flat white espresso. All amazing. And the staff are SO friendly and welcoming! We felt very at home here. read more

Had their acai bowl and it was absolutely delicious. Didn't want to share with the family but they hadn't experience something like this and they loved it as well! Lots of yummy flavors going on and also fresh fruit! If I'm back in the area I'd def come again to eat! Perfect little location too. Does get busy so it's was nice we could grab to go and eat at our air BNB. read more

If I came across this place in some little beach town, it would be the best spot on the beach, complete with the cliche use of a surfboard as part of the design. But being that this little place is in LA, there is a higher standard. The latte and staff were both nice... but a 5-star place if it was located somewhere like Pismo Beach. In LA it is a 3. Also, no matter how many yoga places they open, Rose Street will still be LA's Westside Skid Row, so I'll take the hipsters and yuppies on Abbott Kinney over the bums on Rose. Both are equally annoying socially, but at least hipsters beg their parents for money, and not me. read more

It's a nice day out, on my day off and spending it with the wifey. So, we were in the neighborhood and as always the most hated question I think is "babe what would you like to eat". So we did some soul searching and Flake was the closest and non regretful preferred choice. It's a hole in the wall but our taste buds really enjoyed "The fatty" and the "Yogurt Bowl" very much. We were also surprised on how fast our food was served out and for those who our inpatient no worries Flake customer service got you covered. Thank you for the delicious food Flake. read more

The food is solid and consistently yummy, with generous portions that actually leave you full. The sandwiches and salads are fresh, flavorful, and are high quality California comfort food. There are tons of vegetarian options as well as easy to customize sandwiches and other deli style offerings. The sides are so good too, and my favorite is the curried cous cous! I always upsize to a larger side and take the leftovers back to my hotel. I ordered a veggie sandwich with cous cous. My sandwich was stuffed with ingredients and was absolutely delicious. I ended up taking half of my meal back to the hotel to enjoy later (the leftovers were just as good, too)! The sandwiches travel especially well, making Mendocino Farms a terrific choice for a picnic on the beach. Where things got a little strange at this location was the service. The employees were polite but noticeably awkward, and interactions felt a bit "off" and disorganized. They weren't rude, just very weird. They also straight up stared to see if you would leave a tip, and then if you did they'd ring a loud cowbell. This made me feel really uncomfortable, and it felt extremely passive-aggressive. It was a quiet Sunday morning, but the restaurant was busy. Seating here is extremely limited (there are only a few tables and spots to sit), and a good half of the restaurant was taken up by catering bags and to-go orders placed on chairs and tables. It made the space feel cluttered and not very welcoming if you were hoping to sit and eat. Really wish they'd put the catering orders somewhere else instead of taking up valuable real estate for paying customers who want to dine in! Overall, this location of Mendocino Farms seems great for takeout thanks to the food and parking, but not ideal for dining in. If you're grabbing a meal to go, it's a good choice. Just don't count on a comfortable sit-down experience.

I work 53 steps from the front door of Flake (55 if I have to step over a sleeping Venice "local" or two in the alley). I like to use Flake's free WiFi and comfortable indoor/outdoor seating as a sort of extension to the office. Pretty soon, I'm sure we'll add "Flake" as an actual room you can pick as a meeting place. The satellite radio, indie music, and constant flow of colorful local patronage makes this a fun place to catch a fulfilling bowl of breakfast fare as well as a respectable place to just kick it. I usually order one of the following: 1. Steel-cut Irish Oatmeal w/fresh fruit: The nuttiness of the Irish Oatmeal, coupled with strawberries or blackberries makes me a happy camper. If you're ever in need of a heart-healthy breakfast with plenty of fiber, oatmeal is the ticket. Add crushed walnuts for some crunchy texture and you're off and running... 2. Yogurt bowl/only it's more like a cottage cheese bowl: I'm lobbying for this order to be the "Geoff Bowl" because it's so off the menu, I'm the only one eating it. I order the yogurt bowl with fresh fruit (strawberries/blackberies) only I substitute cottage cheese for yogurt and I ask for them to add granola and blackberries, then top off the whole thing with a generous helping of hunney for the Pooh in me. This works well for lunch, especially if you're looking to eschew the carbs. Try it. Be sure to refer to it as the "Geoff Bowl" 3. Cafe Americano: 2 shots espresso + hot water = heaven. Mmmmmmm. Couple this with item 1 or 2 from above and you're cooking with gas. I find it funny that the knock on this place is the pricing. Both of my orders above usually ring in at around $5. Comparing that with the $10 that I've spent at Starbucks for a coffee + yogurt parfait (not to mention the not-free Wifi) and I'm seeing some serious value... The cereal options are plentiful. The fresh fruit is always leaping at me from behind the counter, and the panini sandwiches look delicious. I can't wait to work my way through the menu options here. The owners are a friendly husband/wife couple that clearly put their hearts into the business. All of the little touches are there from the retro cereal box framed art to the cool satellite radio stations to the constantly updated lunch menu options. I've never been here when I wasn't greeted with a smile and friendly service. This is, plain and simple, a great local Venice spot worth visiting and then re-visiting. read more

This place is cool but I've got mixed feelings about it. I've read the other reviews (the good and the bad) and both have truth to them. Truth: the wait staff is NOT super friendly, but this is Venice Beach so we shouldn't be surprised here. Truth: the cereal bar is kind of overpriced, but I think the main attraction at Flake should be the other dishes, not the cereal. Truth: This place is not good for groups because the location space is TINY. I feel cramped every time I go there, and I have only been there in groups of two. Good luck finding a table. About the price range, it CAN be under ten dollars if you only order one dish, but to me, their dishes were kind of small, so my friend and I decided to order a bunch of different dishes and split them. We ordered five dishes, and it was a little much, but it was a VERY satisfying "little much". But it also cost us $20 each, including juice. Review: The Super Cro-Jo: AWESOME croissant sandwich with eggs and gouda cheese. It comes with bacon but you can have that replaced with a to-die-for veggie sausage patty. It's kind of small though, and it wasn't enough as a meal for a grown adult. The Veggie Rad: Very similar to the Cro-Jo, as it is an egg-white sandwich on English muffin and avocado, but the American cheese they just slopped on it was totally gross. I disapproved, but my friend swore it was even better than the Cro-Jo. This sandwich was even tinier. I don't know how big breakfast is for most people, but this would not suffice alone. The Quiche: A delicious (spinach?) quiche that is small, but satisfying. As it comes with mixed greens (you can order it with fruit, but it goes better with the greens), this meal might actually be enough for one person if you are planning on having a light lunch. Highly recommended. The Fruit Kebabs: It's just fruit with granola and watery yogurt on the side. My friend and I were disappointed as they came in bowls and not on kebabs. The Nutty Munkee: AMAZING AND BRILLIANT IDEA - toasted english muffin, with bananas, peanut butter, and nutella. This is definitely worth it, but now that I'm thinking about it, I probably could have made it at home. Regardless, I still give this place four stars because my friends and I love coming here on a Saturday morning to kick off the weekend. Kudos for the music there! read more

Utterly appalled and so enraged that I'm posting my first review. This place WAS one of my favorite neighborhood spots until yesterday when I was walking by and noticed that their mural on the outside wall was painted by "deadringer". Wondering why it sounded familiar, I googled it and realized it is the same racist POS that made the bat fried rice tee shirts a few months ago!! (check NY Times) Flake, you do realize that at least 30% of your Yelp reviews are posted by Asians, right? I know this mural had been up long before because I have walked/ridden past it a thousand times, but in a time when everyone else is aligning with equality, you are promoting the work of people who choose to further the divide. If that "artist" had designed something targeting any other race, guaranteed you would have painted over it by now. If only your social consciousness was as good as your food, guess it's back to Gjusta for me. read more

Best cafe within close proximity to my house. More than just cereal. i'm into the veggie-D, and Rad Muffins minus the meat. Nice to have a few vegan and vegetarian options along with great coffee. Besides that, Paige and the crew are extremely friendly. You can bring your dog, listen to good music and dodge the homeless in one fell swoop. Thank God there is someone else on Rose Avenue who cares about the neighborhood and is willing to do something about it. Please support small businesses not corporate economic ideology. God caught off guard because they looked busy, and I figured that busy places should have good food...!! Through talking to a few folks I realized it was busy mostly because service was slow and people would just hang out for a while before and after their meal. I rarely go to Venice anymore but I met a client in the area and she wanted to stop in at Flake for an iced coffee. A quick stop turned into brunch. I had an Acaí bowl (which was terrific) and she had a breakfast burrito. This place is typical Venice style and if you're into that, there is no better place to go. We originally stopped at Bluestone Lane to get a slice of banana bread and an afternoon coffee but they ran out of banana bread. I walked across the street and was greeted by the lovely gentleman at the door.
