I came to Flake with a bunch of friends and had a nice experience. It's a super small restaurant, so I didn't have the ideal spot. My seat wasn't covered by the overhang, so the sun was beating down on me, which wasn't great. Other than that, the food was great. I ordered the acaí bowl, without the extra berries. The sorbet was delicious, as well as the granola and banana on top. It was perfect for a cold lunch on a hot day. The service was pretty quick. Overall, I really liked this restaurant. The prices were a little steep for what you got, but I still might come back if I'm in the area. read more

First thing first, I ordered Eggs wrapped in tortilla with a some sausage in there- not the "turkey sausage burrito" they advertised. Seems like they were trying to compensate for the price they were asking for with the amount of eggs. Other than that, the egg was a good consistency ( not too runny, not that well done) perfect balance if you ask me. But come on, don't call it a "turkey sausage burrito" if its 85% egg 10% sausage and 5% american cheese.. No you read that right,.. AMERICAN CHEESE IN A BURRITO. We wanted to find a quick grab and go breakfast spot so we could eat and chill at the beach. We decided to try Flake and I'm so glad we did. Flake is a cute and small shop with some tables inside and outside. They offer several menu items including breakfast sandwiches, wraps, acai bowls, breakfast burritos, croissant, English muffins, as well as coffee and tea. Although there was a long line, the service was quick and efficient. My friends ordered a variety of their sandwiches and their basic acai bowl with seasonal berries. My friends raved about their acai bowl and how it was one of the best acai bowls they've ever had. I ordered their turkey sausage breakfast burrito with scrambled eggs, cheese, and avocado ($1.50 extra). Green salsa was also included to give your burrito a little spice. The eggs were fluffly, soft, and running. The cheese was warm and it nicely melted into the burrito. Each bite was heaven in my mouth. My friends and I ended up going to Flake the next day and I ordered not one, but TWO of their turkey sausage breakfast burritos. I was definitely taking advantage of my stay in Venice. Amazing choice for brunch, especially if you're vegetarian! They have soo many good vegetarian choices, including veggie "meats" which were amazing. This is the type of place where you order inside and they'll bring your food out to you. They have a few tables outside so I was able to bring my dog along with me. Flake was always my go-to breakfast place when I lived in Venice. They were open relatively late for a breakfast place. 8-2 on weekdays and 8-3 on weekends. My favorite was the Turkey Sausage burrito which comes with turkey sausage, scrambled eggs, American cheese & a side of homemade tomatillo salsa and is only $9.50. Another go-to for me was the Sambazon acai bowl with comes with frozen Acai sorbet, Nature's Path Organic Hemp Granola and sliced bananas and is only $8.50. I would pair my meal with a Yerba mate or a fresh-squeezed orange juice and would be set for breakfast or early lunch. The prices here are unbeatable, especially for how great the quality of the food is. Highly recommend for breakfast in Venice! read more

Such a cute Venice spot. They have a wide variety of breakfast sandwiches and burritos as well as açaí. None of us tried the bowls this time, but the burritos, bagel sandwiches, and English muffin sandwiches that we had were all delicious. I came here this morning to grab some "$" breakfast and work on a project online. I drove here from West Hollywood, thinking I'd try a new cafe to sit outside and get some work done. First of all, as listed, there is NO wifi. Why a cafè would have no wifi is beyond me, the only thing I could think was maybe they didn't want people hanging around too long since there is minimal seating, whatever the case, if you don't have wifi DONT list that you do!!! Second of all, a quite bland breakfast croissant sandwich and an iced tea came to $13. I don't think that's $, I think that's more like $$. But I guess whatever you can get away with right? I sat outside and decided to just enjoy breakfast, knowing now I'm going to have to relocate to another cafe after I'm done. & not that it was the cafes fault, but a man on a bike kept coming up to the tables and sitting across from everyone, screaming "bitches" at all the women and sexual remarks the entire time I was eating. I'm so confused how Flake is 4.5 stars when it's super average. The servers are not overly friendly, their outdoor seating is cramped with uncomfortable chairs, they don't have wifi, they charge for coffee refills even if you're eating there, oh and the food is so basic. My turkey sausage burrito was just cheese, eggs, and cut up pieces of turkey sausage. Nothing unique in the least. My wife's $10 acai bowl was the same. Zero thought went into either dish. This is one of the few places that have "non-pork" options on their menu, which made it an easy choice for us to try out. What a CUTE place! It's really a laid back, beach vibe. The ambience is relaxing and chill. It's not good for large groups, I counted approximately 5 tables inside, there are also tables outside but sometimes it's a little too chilly to eat outside in Venice. I had the bacon, egg, cheese, on croissant, fresh squeeze orange juice, donuts, and banana nut bread. The pricing was reasonable and the portion sizes were fair. But I thought the food was just okay. Flake is a great neighborhood spot for breakfast. This is probably one of the last few Venice places that are low key and affordable. Trust me, I love a nice meal that has a cool ambiance and vibe but sometimes I just want a low key breakfast in sweatpants without feeling like I'm a slob kabbob. Everything is between $7-12 which for LA especially Venice is bomb. I got the breakfast bagel with egg, gouda cheese, tomato and lettuce. It was good, it's not ground breaking but for less than $8 it did the job. I barely tasted any cheese, so that was my only complaint, I wanted it to be more cheesy. The breakfast burritos look delicious as well as the build your own cereal bowls which is a super cute concept. What a great find! My boyfriend and I were looking for a new brunch spot to try out on a Saturday morning, so I did a quick search on Yelp (thanks, Yelpers!) and chose Flake. What a great decision that turned out to be! The wait wasn't long, and we found a table inside within minutes of arriving. My boyfriend ordered the bacon burrito ($7.00) with a large coffee, and I ordered the veggie burrito ($8.50) with an iced tea ($3), and a Sambazon acai bowl ($7.75) to share. The total came out to just over $30, which is about average for an LA brunch spot. The cashier was very pleasant, patient, and understanding. Right after I ordered my iced tea, the person behind him was already making my drink, which I didn't realize when I asked him to serve my drink without ice. He was very understanding, and had my drink re-poured for me. The food came very quickly, and it was all so delicious! The granola on the acai bowl had a particularly delicious combination of crunchy and sweet. It inspired me to want to start making acai bowls at home again. My boyfriend enjoyed his coffee black, which is definitely a sign that their coffee is good. Their coffee is also self-serve, with free refills - yay! I took a sip of my iced tea during our meal, and I discovered that it had mint in it, which I did not expect and do not like. I waited in line, and told the cashier, who, again, was very patient and understanding about my complaint. He offered to find a solution for me, but a woman behind the counter (a manager, perhaps?) took over, and offered to brew a fresh pot of iced tea for me without any mint in it. I was delighted by her generous offer, and accepted. The tea only took a few minutes to brew, and it was much more to my liking. I'm very impressed about how kind and helpful the staff is here! They really match quality and service, which is a difficult combination to come across nowadays. Reading the reviews they've received, coupled with my experience here, I am not surprised that the owners took the time to make amends for the reviews they received from unhappy customers. Although Flake is a very hipster, typical Venice business, with a clientele of surfers, dog owners, and yogis, they do not have the typical pretentious, hipster apathetic approach to their customers. They are very eager to serve their customers with high quality food and high quality service, to make you want to come back for more. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back here again! They accept credit cards, and there is street parking along Rose, which is free and easy to find. There is indoor and outdoor seating, so you can bring your pup to sit on your lap as you dive into your fresh fruit acai bowl. read more
