Everything about this place is my favorite -- I lived up the street from Flake and frequented this cute little spot. It's got a local feel, and the staff has all been there forever. There's indoor and outdoor seating, but the indoor seating gets a little too hot on a hot day. If you're in a hurry, they've never messed up a to-go order in the 10 years that I've been frequenting this spot. If you're trying to knock out a beach day and score a meal before, definitely order to-go and take it to the beach with you. Weekends get packed, so order online or for-pick up. The coffee is fantastic. Lattes are great. The menu options are appealing to anyone -- the veggies, vegans, ketos, paleos, dairy-frees, and everyone in between can find something super good on the menu. Flake definitely lives up to the hype! My husband and I stopped by here to pick up the Super CroJo (breakfast croissant) on our way to explore Venice. I absolutely love croissants and have been searching for the best croissant sandwiches. They have one of the best breakfast croissants sandwiches that I've ever had. The reviews for Flake are off the charts so I had to give it a shot.. I was impressed! The thing I loved most was how fresh and healthy it all tasted. I got the super cro-jo: Scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, smoked gouda cheese, greens, tomato, and secret sauce on a toasted croissant. I was expecting it to be super heavy and greasy, as most croissant-style sandwiches are. However, it was very healthy tasting! Again, I loved how fresh everything tasted. This place was a perfect place for a reasonably priced chill brunch with very strong "Venice" vibes! We ordered the turkey sausage breakfast burrito, two breakfast sandwiches, an açaí bowl, a flat white, and an iced coffee for a total of about $50. The breakfast burrito was huge and so filling that I only ate half. It had a perfect ratio of eggs, cheese, and sausage and when I dipped it in the salsa verde it came with, it was amazing! Even if you don't like salsa, use the salsa. The other sandwiches also had perfectly balanced flavors and my friends, who never finish their meals, loved it so much that they both finished their plates! The sandwiches came with a nice mixed lettuce blend with a DELICIOUS balsamic dressing and was a perfect light side to balance the sandwiches. Holy! I'm so happy that my friend and I ordered takeout breakfast at Flake during our time in SoCal. We needed to grab some quick food before our hike, and Flake exceeded our expectations. We both ordered the Super Cru Jo and loved it. I added avocado to mine and also got an iced latte with oat milk. Everything was delicious! However, the sandwich might be a bit small for people with big appetites. I was pretty hungry that morning, and I probably could have eaten another sandwich (same goes for my friend who generally just eats more). If you're gluten free, don't forget I puke up some banana bread (moist and flavorful). It's a small space and they don't have a parking lot, so you need to fight for street parking. Even thought there's normally a line, it goes by pretty fast and you get your food in a timely manner. We ordered three items which I'll go into separately: Breakfast Burrito: This burrito tasted oddly similar to the sausage burritos at McDonalds. It may be the cheese/cheese sauce? In any case, I'm always lightly disheartened when a breakfast burrito is absent of any form of potato, this burrito was mostly egg with a bit of cheese and bacon. It felt pretty lacking and without substance. Acai Bowl: This was...kind of an anemic looking acai bowl. First off, the acai was still frozen solid which made it hard to break apart and eat. Secondly, it was just acai, bananas, and granola. Usually, an acai bowl is supposed to be more colorful and provide a variety of fruit. But this just seemed lazy- I could hardly call it an acai bowl. The Fatty: I think this is what it was called, but it was a turkey croissant sandwich that actually was not bad at all. It had avocado and their secret sauce, which had a bit of heat and a kick to it. Was quite alright! The standout item in these three was the croissant sandwich, but even that I think was just okay. I like this little tiny restaurant. Staff are very helpful and friendly. You have to order in the front, they'll give you a number and bring the food to you. Pretty solid little cafe. Love the location, Rose Ave is the cutest street to walk around and look at all the bougie shops. I tried the super cro-jo since that's what Flake is known for. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that you should always take breakfast advice from the drunk guy that followed you and your friends home. Because that advice led us to Flake. We were agonizing over the menu, so I asked one of the friendly folk behind the counter what he would order. The answer was immediate: "The bacon burrito. Grilled. With special sauce inside." Done. I went here every day before the pandemic and they had great food and great service! The workers were really nice!

Perfect! I got the Veggie Reggie and a small hot sugar free vanilla latte with almond milk. The Veggie Reggie was so great their choice of veggie sausage is immaculate it's not like the kind that are rubbery or have a bad after taste it's literally perfect. The cheese was melted to perfect and the bread of the sandwich wasn't soggy at all. The texture of the sandwich was perfect not too much lettuce or tomato to make it unbearable it was amazing for the perfect bite every time. The coffee was great nothing out of this world I mean almond milk sugar free lattes are nothing crazy anywhere so I understand! But can we talk about the scenery it's so enjoyable I felt happy with the quick grab and go vibe and just sit down and eat. Plus the area was nice to just daze off and watch around. Finally, the staff was so beautiful and sweet I asked so many questions and was greeted with patience, answered, and amazing energy. I kept it simple and didn't add extra fruit besides the banana that comes with the bowl. The sorbet textured acai topped with the crunchy granola and the nutty hempy seeds was the perfect combination. It is refreshing like ice cream, but healthy for you - win, win! Prices are relatively reasonable for the area, but parking can be difficult at times (street only). Food: The Sambazon Acai Bowl is super popular and for good reason with a healthy portion of fruit and granola on top of frozen sorbet. I've also tried the Neptuna Melt (you can add extras like avocado and bacon) and Poseidon's Wrap (albacore tuna salad) which are consistent. The coffee and teas are pretty standard. I stopped into Flake for a bite since I was early for my doggie daycare appointment. I ordered a bacon burrito, eyed what appeared to be fresh OJ, but decided to get my faithful Guayaki tea. The place was packed, but I was lucky enough to get a seat at a table just at the edge of the back of the house. It was a great spot for an observant Virgo like me. Here's what I observed: - The 'fresh' OJ is poured from a large gallon jug of Perricone Farms into small individual plastic cups, which makes the customers think it's freshly squeezed. - The scrambled eggs are precooked and stored in large clear bins on the counter. - There are multiple microwaves, that are in constant use. - The rows of hot sauces are oddly discolored, which tips off to improper storing. - The decor is retro with the old fashioned cereal posters. - It's a celebrity hotspot. Now onto my burrito. It was freaking delicious. It was served with a tomatillo salsa that I recognized, but the burrito didn't need it. The reason the burrito didn't need the salsa was due to the fact that it had processed cheese slices in it. It took me back to the days when I just moved into my apartment and I threw random stuff into tortillas (or sometimes hardly anything at all), but THAT Kraft sliced cheese was always there. The bacon was throughout the burrito, the cheese was almost constant. When it wasn't, the salsa was there for me. Service was pretty nice considering how busy the place is, and how snobby some of the patrons are. If you're a health nut, stick to your fancy bowls. The iced latte was good, and for a dollar you can get a coffee refill, which is super! Seating maxes out around 30 people, half inside and half out. I ordered take out this past weekend. I placed my order over the phone and ordered the super cro-jo and the croissan-which Jones. Placing the order was quick and easy. They picked up the phone almost immediately. The food was ready in 12 minutes. I drove to go pick up the food and unfortunately there was no parking.
