I first went here back in January after being new to OC. I received a coupon in the mail for an oil change, and since I was in need, I decided to go in. The service was good and the oil change was fast. Afterwards, I was told that I needed to replace my air filter and my belts and he quoted me a price. I'm no car guy at all, so I was unsure if I really did need new belts or not, especially since I had just changed my timing belt in November. I asked my dad and he suggested I proceed with caution. Fast forward 2.5 months, I had put a decent amount of miles on my car driving for DoorDash, so I decided to just go with the belts replacement as I also needed an oil change. I arrived around 10:40am this past Saturday 3/26/16. I got there and requested an oil change along with the quoted service for replacing my belts and air filter. I asked how long the job would take as I had plans for 1pm. I never got an answer for length, but was assured they would start working on it right away. What a relief! Ended up finishing around 2:30pm. I was extremely annoyed as I was forced to delay the plans I had originally made. I kept seeing customers come and go, while I waited around. I'm not giving this a 1 star due to the long wait -- I am a patient person, the mechanic even commented several times "thank you for being so patient." I'm giving this a 1 star because of what happened afterwards. In the haste to speed things up once the belt was finally delivered, the belt must have been installed incorrectly. I drove to the store and then home immediately afterwards and all was good and fine. The following Monday, I drove from my home in Orange to my job in Newport. As I was closing in to my office, I heard a noise I had never heard before coming from my engine. As soon as I got to my office, I popped open the hood to see if I could make any sense of what was going on. Again, I'm no car guy, so I was unsure of what was wrong, but I knew the belt should not be hitting my engine the way it was at that moment. After contemplating what to do, I decided to call the Fix-N-Smog to see if they can fix the problem. Here's the thing, it appeared as if there was a loose belt somewhere in the engine, and this sounded and felt extremely unsafe. I did not feel confident driving the ~14 miles all the way to take my car back to this shop. I called and explained my situation. I mentioned that I had just gone in two days prior, and that my car's engine was now making weird noises. I explained that it sounded like the new belt was hitting my engine. I was then immediately put on with the manager. I explained my situation again, but when he said I should take it into the shop, I asked "Do you think it would be safe to drive the car all the way there like this?" He just replied with, "Well you're driving on it now." Definitely did not appreciate that answer as I definitely did not feel safe driving, but still wanted a professional's opinion. He also suggested getting my car towed all the way there, but I was to obviously pay for it. After recording a video of my engine, I sent it to my dad and to my car guy friend. They both instructed me not to drive any further -- I was glad to know that my gut feeling about driving +10 miles would not be safe. My friend said the loose belt could easily get caught in another part of the engine which could cause a lot more damage. I was extremely upset about dropping over $100 on Saturday only to have the very same belt messed up two days later, and was even more upset that I was unable to have them fix what they did, but I had to go to another mechanic near my job. The new mechanic showed me the new belt that installed by Fix-n-Smog and it was already cracked because the belt was installed too tightly -- causing other problems. Not only was the brand new belt ruined, it also pulled out the alternator causing it to now cause the serpentine belt to spin in a misaligned motion. Had I just replaced the belt, I would have ended up with another new belt cracking right away. I will definitely never return, even though I really wanted them to fix their mistake. I ended up having to pay several hundred dollars more for a whole new belt on top of a new alternator. I am glad I did not take the manager's advice to drive the 14 miles back to their shop -- I value my life. read more

Great service! I was in and out in 15 minutes for a smog check! No appointment necessary. Helpful guys working here. Just be careful not to step in a muddy puddle ... The asphalt could use a little TLC. read more

These guys tried to make me buy an unnecessary part and charge me for labor to put it on when they visually failed my smog check. They wouldn't tell me exactly which part it was, so I thought something was fishy. I took it elsewhere and found out it was a six dollar part that I literally took off and put on in ten seconds. Do not waste your money here! read more

Fast, friendly and such a great price for a star certified smog check. I was in and out in about 25 minutes on a Saturday morning. I would highly recommend! read more

Alex Mayer, the owner of Fix n Smog is the "real deal". I had an estimate to fix my RV that was really outrageous. I saw Fix n Smog website and decided to call. Alex walked me through his diagnostic process and why it was so detailed. The other guy did a diagnostic and listed every part that came up. Alex and his team pin pointed the problem and fixed it. My Rv passed smog and I was spared from getting screwed. Call Alex next time you need a smog test and if you are unlucky to fail. Know that you will get a fair deal from this guy. I highly recommend Fix n Smog. Robert. read more

So Bad, So Sad~! I received a Fix-N-Smog circular mailer advertisement (Ad)in my mailbox in Santa Ana. The Ad promoted an "Oil Change" for $14.90 for up to 4 quarts of oil. I arrived early to Fix-N-Smog and was the first automobile for service. An older gentleman with a slight limp in his walk looked at the Ad I showed him and asked the make and model of my auto. He informed me my model had a 'Skid Plate' and it would be $10.00 additional dollars above the $14.90 advertised rate. A 'Skid Plate' is a flat piece of plastic that sits below the auto's oil pan to protect it from any debris one might run over on the roadway. The 'Skid Plate' is attached at one end that slides into a slot and rests on a lip as the other side has two 'knobs' that fit into notches. The knobs rotate 180 degrees with a tool such as a screw driver. When the knobs are rotated 180 degrees they line up to the opening and the 'skid plate' drops down on that end. One pulls the other fitting end off of the lip and it is removed to get to the Oil Filter and the Drain plug in the oil pan. The removal of the 'Skid Plate' takes 10 seconds to remove and approximately 15 to 20 seconds to put back on. For this $10.00 in an additional charge more. NOTE: The regular place I have had my oil changed at for the past 7 years, has closed for now due to Covid-19. That regular place charged $0.00 over seven (7) years and nearly 30 different oil changes to remove and re-attache the 'skid plate'. So Bad, So Sad. The older gentleman did tell me he would give me 5 quarts of oil rather than the 4 quart limit as part of the additional $10.00 charge. So Bad, So Sad. read more

Avoid this shit hole at all costs... car was tested a while back in Irvine and passed with flying colors. Take it to Fix n Go because it was cheap. Well you get what you pay for. Car left with a check engine light and said my timing was 15 degrees off? The owner starts saying he will start repairing it and I said no, then he gets an attitude and tells me I will blow the engine if he doesn't diagnose the problem. I laughed and drove home. I clear the code of a misfire and take it to another smog location. Car passes with no problem... Just your typical attempt at a mechanic doing a shake down. read more

I was referred here by my friend hamid because the quote I got for my car at the other place was a bit fishy. Met with Alex and immediately knew I'm in the right place. So professional and HONEST ! I also sent my grandpa to him and same he called me and said same thing. Telling me to call and personally thank him. Some other place which will remain nameless almost charged my grandpa almost a $1000 for a misfire issue and Alex told him no $20 and your are done. WHO DOES THAT YALL, nowadays!!! Alex I wish I can show this review to all who are apprehensive like me who knows Nothing about this stuff and my grandpa. You could have easily made money on both of our cars but you didn't. Will definitely send all my family there. read more

BEWARE!! This business is super shady. I brought my truck for a rear brake service. An hour later I received a call from a service adviser indicating the truck needed new rear drums. A complete scam. I said no. The truck has 80K miles and the drums are not replaced until 200K. I had checked the drums a week ago. The drum were fine. I then paid for the service and drove my truck home when suddenly the tire air pressure sensor lite-up on the dash. I called Fix & Smog and the service adviser tried to lure me back to the shop so he could diagnosis the problem. The issue was that Fix & Smog dangerously over inflated all four tires with 80 psi of air. Normal operation psi are 45. This scam could have turned tragic if a tire ruptured while driving. Had their scam worked, they would taken air out each tire and charged me $50 to $200 for each sensor. Additionally, someone could have very easily lost their life. BE SUPER CAREFUL with this place. I will never return to this place. Your life and health are worth more than their sketchy coupons to lure people in and cheat them out of their hard earned money. read more

Horrible. Had 8:00 appt. Mechanic never showed, by time I left at 9. Place looks like it's days away from being condemned. Great job. Helped me understand problem. Did diagnostic, fixed problem for fair price and passed my smog!

Aside from other negative reviews, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Alex was very helpful in showing me what issues I was having with my brakes. I found myself returning back to Fix N Smog because my husband destroyed the AC in our minivan and with temperatures soaring in the 90's and for the health and safety of our newborn and kids, I needed help fast. I brought the van in as soon as the business was open and right away the mechanic's told me to pull in and they begin trying to resolve my problem. Given that the repair would take some time, I was offered a ride home with my little one in tote. Alex gave me a phone call to explain the condition of the AC system and the recommended repair. His quote was very reasonable, and my husband was very pleased with the price and quality of services. Summer is enjoyable now that the van has new coolant and the kids are comfortable. Alex and his team are a honest and hard working bunch. read more
