New to California from Chicago and after the long drive needed to do a lot of work on my car ranging from changing a headlight, to getting new brakes, and even an oil change. I drive a GLK so I'm picky about who i let work on my car, but after talking to Alex I felt pretty comfortable giving him and his workshop a shot. I first went here back in January after being new to OC. I received a coupon in the mail for an oil change, and since I was in need, I decided to go in. The service was good and the oil change was fast. Afterwards, I was told that I needed to replace my air filter and my belts and he quoted me a price. I'm no car guy at all, so I was unsure if I really did need new belts or not, especially since I had just changed my timing belt in November. I asked my dad and he suggested I proceed with caution. Fast forward 2.5 months, I had put a decent amount of miles on my car driving for DoorDash, so I decided to just go with the belts replacement as I also needed an oil change. I arrived around 10:40am this past Saturday 3/26/16. I got there and requested an oil change along with the quoted service for replacing my belts and air filter. I asked how long the job would take as I had plans for 1pm. I never got an answer for length, but was assured they would start working on it right away. What a relief! Ended up finishing around 2:30pm. I was extremely annoyed as I was forced to delay the plans I had originally made. I kept seeing customers come and go, while I waited around. I'm not giving this a 1 star due to the long wait -- I am a patient person, the mechanic even commented several times "thank you for being so patient." I'm giving this a 1 star because of what happened afterwards. In the haste to speed things up once the belt was finally delivered, the belt must have been installed incorrectly. I drove to the store and then home immediately afterwards and all was good and fine. The following Monday, I drove from my home in Orange to my job in Newport. As I was closing in to my office, I heard a noise I had never heard before coming from my engine. As soon as I got to my office, I popped open the hood to see if I could make any sense of what was going on. Again, I'm no car guy, so I was unsure of what was wrong, but I knew the belt should not be hitting my engine the way it was at that moment. After contemplating what to do, I decided to call the Fix-N-Smog to see if they can fix the problem. Here's the thing, it appeared as if there was a loose belt somewhere in the engine, and this sounded and felt extremely unsafe. I did not feel confident driving the ~14 miles all the way to take my car back to this shop. I called and explained my situation. I mentioned that I had just gone in two days prior, and that my car's engine was now making weird noises. I explained that it sounded like the new belt was hitting my engine. I was then immediately put on with the manager. I explained my situation again, but when he said I should take it into the shop, I asked "Do you think it would be safe to drive the car all the way there like this?" He just replied with, "Well you're driving on it now." Definitely did not appreciate that answer as I definitely did not feel safe driving, but still wanted a professional's opinion. He also suggested getting my car towed all the way there, but I was to obviously pay for it. After recording a video of my engine, I sent it to my dad and to my car guy friend. They both instructed me not to drive any further -- I was glad to know that my gut feeling about driving +10 miles would not be safe. My friend said the loose belt could easily get caught in another part of the engine which could cause a lot more damage. I was extremely upset about dropping over $100 on Saturday only to have the very same belt messed up two days later, and was even more upset that I was unable to have them fix what they did, but I had to go to another mechanic near my job. The new mechanic showed me the new belt that installed by Fix-n-Smog and it was already cracked because the belt was installed too tightly -- causing other problems. Not only was the brand new belt ruined, it also pulled out the alternator causing it to now cause the serpentine belt to spin in a misaligned motion. Had I just replaced the belt, I would have ended up with another new belt cracking right away. I will definitely never return, even though I really wanted them to fix their mistake. I ended up having to pay several hundred dollars more for a whole new belt on top of a new alternator. I am glad I did not take the manager's advice to drive the 14 miles back to their shop -- I value my life. read more

These guys tried to make me buy an unnecessary part and charge me for labor to put it on when they visually failed my smog check. They wouldn't tell me exactly which part it was, so I thought something was fishy. I took it elsewhere and found out it was a six dollar part that I literally took off and put on in ten seconds. Alex Mayer, the owner of Fix n Smog is the "real deal". I had an estimate to fix my RV that was really outrageous. I saw Fix n Smog website and decided to call. Alex walked me through his diagnostic process and why it was so detailed. The other guy did a diagnostic and listed every part that came up. Alex and his team pin pointed the problem and fixed it. Avoid this shit hole at all costs... car was tested a while back in Irvine and passed with flying colors. Take it to Fix n Go because it was cheap. Well you get what you pay for. Car left with a check engine light and said my timing was 15 degrees off? The owner starts saying he will start repairing it and I said no, then he gets an attitude and tells me I will blow the engine if he doesn't diagnose the problem. I laughed and drove home. I clear the code of a misfire and take it to another smog location. Car passes with no problem... Just your typical attempt at a mechanic doing a shake down. read more

I get my Honda check at this shop, I only trust these guys for their honesty, they really know what their doing. The young guy who owns this shop is really attentive with his customers he has personally done the oil change, as well as the breaks, and Smog check, whenever I'm in a hurry, this place always gets the work done. I recommend to call ahead of time, but if you have emergency they will take care of you right away. Since lately we've had really hot humid summer days, I notice the air conditioning in my car was not working well ( air was not cool enough ) I was desperate and took the car to have it check at an auto shop in Lake Forest those guys want to charge an arm and leg. I called Fix and Go and in matter of less then 1hour the Manager or owner had check the car and had fixed, he told me he would not charge because it was something minor. I was impress he didn't want to charge me, I was really please with how fast they work and their honesty. I highly recommend this guys they sure know what their doing!!! read more

Scott wasted my time! I called him up and asked if he could smog my 98 Astro van he said yes bring it in. When I got there he was complaining about the extra work taking apart the inside to see back of motor then asked if I wanted to do it. What the fuck??? He put it on the rack and asked me to take a look at the catalytic converter. He said it has no markings or numbers so I can't smog it and it will be $250 or something to put a brand new one on. I told him to drop it to the ground. If you look up when you need numbers on a catalytic converter it is for aftermarket 2009 to present if it's damaged, leaks or is no good. Again, my van is a 98 and has stock converter he did not run the test to see if it failed just wanted to put a new converter on or just didn't want to do the job. Lol, he asked me for the paper work for a stock converter that has no markings or numbers. Again, paperwork or registration required on aftermarket catalytic converters 2009 to present. Thanks to Scott for wasting my time. Be aware of this if you go there. Must think I'm stupid. read more

Aside from other negative reviews, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Alex was very helpful in showing me what issues I was having with my brakes. Apparently the cylinder, shoes, pads, basically the whole nine yards needed to get serviced. He charged a fair value and will be back in the future for other repairs. read more

I found myself returning back to Fix N Smog because my husband destroyed the AC in our minivan and with temperatures soaring in the 90's and for the health and safety of our newborn and kids, I needed help fast. I brought the van in as soon as the business was open and right away the mechanic's told me to pull in and they begin trying to resolve my problem. Given that the repair would take some time, I was offered a ride home with my little one in tote. Alex gave me a phone call to explain the condition of the AC system and the recommended repair. His quote was very reasonable, and my husband was very pleased with the price and quality of services. Summer is enjoyable now that the van has new coolant and the kids are comfortable. Great service, first time I have been here. I almost got stuck on 55 and was afraid my car would stall. Lights were all flashing and everything... I got really worried got of the freeway quick and came here. Then I got worried how much they would charge. They said they were not sure until they looked to see what the problem was.. and then I got more worried. So I waited about 30 min and called a bunch my friends that know about cars, not sure if that helped or worried me more :) After talking on the phone forever about what to do one of the workers came out and told me that something was loose with my water pump and they fixed it and I should not have any more problems. I wouldn't even give Fix and Smog one star if possible because I just had the worst experience I have ever had when taking my vehicle in for service. I took my vehicle into to the above mentioned shop when hearing a foreign noise under my hood. Little did I know that I would experience the utmost in incompetence and inconsideration by everyone on staff. Incompetent 1. Misdiagnosing the noise coming from under my hood as being from the water pump. 2. When they replaced a hose, coolant spilled all over my driveway leaving an unsightly puddle. 3. The owner telling me the foreign noise was gone after my first visit when in fact he never checked it. Inconsideration 1. On 2 occasions the business never called me to tell me that my car was fixed. I had to call them. I have one car only and this is a major inconvenience. 2. Not offering to clean my driveway or saying they were sorry for inconveniencing me or misdiagnosing my problem. Finally, after a second trip and $800 spent the coolant leak was fixed, and the necessary repair of my alternator was completed. However, this was after arguing with owner who tried to lie to me by saying that there was a second noise coming from under my hood on my return visit. I don't understand how this business keeps its doors open when getting the kind of incompetence, lack of integrity and a disregard for my considerration shown by the staff at Fix and Smog. read more

I first went to Fix-N-Smog on 09/05/2017 to have my 2007 Ford Mustang smog checked. I decided to go there because it was local and because I found an Internet coupon (primarily because of the coupon). On my first visit the owner stated that it was going to take 20-minutes. It took way more than that, which was horrible because their waiting room/office had no air condition running, so I kept having to step outside. Oh and looking at my car took more than 20-minutes. Scott (Caucasian male with facial hair) the smog checker approaches me and tells me that he needs to show me something. He proceeds to try and lecture me about how my cold-air-intake is a modification. I told him I knew that it's a mod and that I had the C.A.R.B. EO sticker/decal in the glove compartment. He then gives me attitude, and tries to lecture me on how the sticker is supposed to be inside the engine bay. Told him I kept the sticker in the glove box so it doesn't get damaged (I clean my engine bay quite often). He then tells me that I have to comeback some other day to get retested because they were closed. He didn't actually test the car, he just visually inspected it and then stopped because of the sticker/decal. Scott proceeded to FAIL my car and charge me $29.75 except for the SMOG certificate. Scott also said, "You baby your car don't you?" When I got home I noticed a grease palm print on the driver's side near the hood. So he or someone else there left the print mark. I came back on 09/07/2017 and had to deal with Scott again. He had me pull up my car into their engine bay, which seemed rather dangerous because of the car lift inside. Another employee even told me to watch my step after I was exiting my car. I gave Scott the C.A.R.B. EO sticker/decal. He then proceeded to go on his cell phone to look up the C.A.R.B. EO number but instead of just verifying the code etc. he proceeded to nitpick the description of the cold air intake. Basically he would have had to have taken the whole thing apart. Then he asked me for the tuning device. I told him what's the problem? He basically rambled on about how he was just checking the description on the C.A.R.B. website and that there was supposed to be a tuning device. I told him that he didn't need the physical tuner because the car has already been tuned. Scott actually thought that the tuner went inside the engine bay and was looking for it. I told Scott that he had been giving me attitude since Tuesday. He threw a hissy fit and told me to take my car elsewhere. I told him that I was getting a refund. The owner Alex was sitting in the engine bay. I told him that Scott had been giving me attitude since Tuesday when he tried to lecture me about the mod in my car because I put him in his place after telling him I knew what it was and that I had the sticker for it etc. Scott proceeded to call me a "FAG" In front of Alex. I told the owner that I would be writing negative reviews online because of this incident. I made sure that Scott knew that I would remember his name by pointing at the embroidered name Scott on his work shirt and stating his name multiple times. Alex did NOT chastise or fire Scott in my presence about calling me a "FAG." The owner gave me a refund, and mumbled a halfhearted apology as he was issuing the refund back on to my card. I told him that he needed to fire Scott, and that he the owner knew that I would have to write a review about this. The previous place that I had my car smog checked at did not give me the kind of attitude over my cold-air-intake that Scott did. Again, I only went to Fix-N-Smog because of a coupon and proximity to me. I later went to a STAR certified and ASE Certified smog check center in Santa Ana, and they gave me NO ATTITUDE about my cold-air-intake, and verified the C.A.R.B. EO number etc. (I placed the decal/sticker on the unit) matched what I had installed in my engine etc. AVOID this place if you have mods/modifications on your car and because of an apparent homophobic employee who called a paying customer a "FAG" in front of the OWNER without any immediate consequences. read more

Owner is a nice guy. Had a recall on my vehicle and car did not pass smog. He told me to come back and he would wave the inspection fee. Happy with the service plus is $38 for a smog check compared to other places that wanted to charge me $59. read more

Owner and technicians are rude, went in to do a smog. They tried telling me my air intake wasn't stock when I've never replaced it or removed the air intake, it's been stock since i bought it 9 years ago. The intake was missing a part so i did not pass smog which made sense i double checked with Toyota of Orange to confirm this. Very unpleasant and rude tho both owner and technician. Makes you wonder if they claim to say "that intake isn't stock i see these cars every day " when it was actually stock if they really know what they are doing. Seemed like they just wanted to make quick money and if i did order the part with them and had it replaced I'm sure they would've ripped me off. When i tried asking the technician how much the part would be he snarked at me saying the owner would tell me all about it when i asked the owner he wasn't helpful just said idk i have to look it up.
