This company is unprofessional to start. I brought them my ROG ally to repair and he said he wasn't sure if he could fix it but his buddy might. Then after I left it with him I didn't hear from him for months. After I then stopped in and requested it back to take somewhere else when I stopped in to pick it up. The device was more broken then when I left it with him. A broken trigger and all of the screws missing from the back plate and the heat sink removed from the cpu. Now I can't take it elsewhere to get it fixed because he basically destroyed it. And then had the audacity to say well I'm not going you any money. I absolutely will tell everyone never to go hear for anything the guy is rude and disrespectful. read more

Mr. Thompson, the proprietor, quickly analyzed my problem. I couldn't properly update; the HD was bad and was unable keep up with the demands of the processor (or something like that, I'm not a techie). He suggested putting in a SSD drive. That was exactly what I needed, since I had long complained about the slowness of the computer's response. Very reasonable--less than $200. Did it within a day. A comment about parking: if you're using GPS, it will direct you to the address on Main St. No parking there (maybe other side of the road, I don't recall). If you're coming through High St on the divided lanes, go through the light at Main. Turn right onto S Wolf St. There's a little sign maybe 100 ft. in. The entrance is in back--you'll have to ring a bell. But don't let the unimposing nature of the facilities put you off. He'll do excellent work. P.S. Some reviews below complain about Mr. Thompson's gruff nature. True, but again, don't let it put you off. Brought in a new itx homebuilt with a cloned operating system from my 7 year old computer. I thought I could update the system from that. After spending much of my life dealing with "techies", engineers and other people who know more than I do(In some things) and are sometimes, like everyone else, "difficult" to work with(In some ways), I also know, very well(Very) how the guys with the little shops are constantly dealing with folks who: A: Don't have a clue. Much like when we go to a mechanics shop, thinking we know all about cars, since we drive them all the time, but are shocked by the $1,500 "inspection" bill. Independents can be great, and honest as the day is long(I try hard to deal with no one else.), but, you may pay the price of their(Anyone's. Yours, for instance.) unrelated(Maybe disparate from your own...) oft and loudly stated opinions and attitudes on everything(Surely one reason they have their own business...). B. Do have a clue, but not as much as they think they do or they would do their own repairs and mods, and/or know the difficulties and just get on with it. C. You have to know that when the warranty runs out, you're on your own- period. If there is no written warranty, mostly things used, you're on your own when you leave the business. Weeks or months later? Get out your wallet. Remember: YOU may know you are honest(Or may actually be wrong? Amazing as it sounds.), but they have no idea. Meantime, I'm going to Fix My Computer, tomorrow, to see what they might have in the "pro" used line. If nothing there, I'll go to Free Geek Penn, in Ephrata(Where, once I get a couple newer ones, I'll take the old ones and all my saved-up no longer used electronics there for recycle. I spend a LOT of time on my laptop,due to health issues,and when it crashed,the obvious place to take it to was Fix My Computer. I'd taken my old one there before too for serving and they installed a virus protection on it for me. This time,it was finished in 2 days and cost me less than a $ 100.00. Personally,I prefer dealing with small businesses and their owners,rather than a Corporation. They hooked me up an old power cord for my laptop and charged me 10 bucks. I thought that was a pretty good deal. They could have charged me 40 bucks for a universal charging cord. I was happy. Update:Sept. 2017...I bought a rebuilt computer from this place in Nov. Of 2015. It was supposed to have a new battery in it. The battery died after 3 months. It was supposed to be built from completely new parts except for the outer shell. It wasn't. A week ago the screen stopped coming on, so I called to talk with him about the issue. Now, most people agree that Dave, the owner, is rude, arrogant and hard to deal with or even talk with. He's condescending to everyone because, of course, no one knows more than or even as much as him. Everyone who owns a computer is stupid and barely even knows how to turn it on. What I do know, after taking the computer elsewhere for an objective diagnosis, is that the motherboard has failed...after LESS than two years of checking emails and little else. The computer was not used for gaming, it wasn't over clocked and it wasn't overheated. It always sat on a cooling pad and the fan was cleaned weekly. I called Dave and explained what had happened. His first inclination was to blame me, started aggressively quizzing me about power surges, power outages, did I leave the battery in all the time, etc. He barked about how they had just lost a new model to lightning, then said he wasn't going to take some random guy's word that the motherboard had failed. I explained that I wasn't a moron, knew to unplug devices during storms, that I hadn't ruined the battery, and that the computer had NOT failed due to any neglect or abuse. He told me to bring it in and he'd look at it. The point is, this guy's first response was to try to blame the ignorance of the customer in a tone that immediately puts the customer on the defensive, having to justify and validate what was a reasonable complaint, and have a heated discussion rather than a calm, professional conversation. Will I take this computer in for him to look at? Not a chance. I've taken it to another guy who is professional, friendly, pleasant and who has a 5-star rating from a large number of customers. Why would I go somewhere that I'll have to be ready for verbal jousting, be made to feel ignorant, and have him be condescending to me, raising his voice rather than talking about an issue in a cool and calm manner? I'd rather do business with someone who at least acts like they appreciate my business. He's not the only game in town, he just seems to think he is, and he acts like it. By the way, my major in college was computer science, so I know a little about that of which I speak. read more

I've brought my computer here twice, once for a hard drive and once for a battery/ charge port replacement. I could tell when I walk in that this was a place for people of all levels. Lots of gaming equipment. They have great hours, and they are very transparent about options. It would've costed more to get an OEM hard drive replacement, but I was given the option to get a less expensive solid state hard drive if I was willing to give up capacity (I never needed 1 TB I have an external hard drive) it was cheaper that way, and he told me a solid state hard drive (SSD) has no moving parts and was less likely to fail. I came back for a charge port and battery replacement after computer savvy friends failed. My computer runs like an Olympic athlete and it's 8 years old thanks to these guys! read more

I wanted to upgrade my processor to an i7 4790k and amazon had them for about $339 with prime. I placed an order on Amazon but then got an email later on that day saying it was backordered. I've lived in Manheim for a couple of years and have passed Fix My Computer every day on my home from work. I figured I'd call them up and see if they had the part that I wanted at a fair markup. Well, the guy had it and it was only $365. He checked with me before selling it that I had the proper motherboard and asked my if I was planning on overclocking it, etc. Basically, he was making sure I knew what I was buying and had the right equipment to work with it. While I was there to pick it up I saw he has pretty much any decent newer component that you could find on newegg, and prices are very competitive to newegg and amazon. He had a popular heatsink/fan combo that normally retails online for about $30 and he only wanted $38 for it in his store. You factor in shipping costs (or not if you're prime) and your time he's really not marking it up all that much more than online prices. We also got into talking about older 90s hardware for a good 30 minutes before I realized I was having too much fun and had to get back to work! Overall, great guy and great local PC shop. There hasn't been a decent local shop since the 90's heyday of computer shows. And this guy has completely fair and reasonable prices. Highly recommended! read more

After word vomiting on me as I walked into the shop with expletives about his yellow pages bill, he took my iPhone to complete a repair estimate. Unsure, if it was my Harriet Tubman screensaver, but out of some blue he suggested that "us Americans" should be over slavery by now, since it happened, in his words "200" yrs ago. And how those using iPhones during "these protests" don't have a clue how good they've got it in this country, since Japanese sweat shops are enslaving workers that make the iPhones. I have had Norton on my 'older' computer (6 years old, to be exact). It kept getting slower and slower, and making ugly grinding sounds........I took it to Fix My Computer in Manheim to see if there was anything he could do to make my machine useful. Not only was he successful, but he only took a day to fix it........and he charged me less than the cost of a year of Norton! This shop is amazing! 1st, I am very glad the shop is close to me, I can walk there! The first time I used them was nearly 1&1/2 years ago. I have an hp laptop and brought it to them because the fan was loud and the battery would not hold a charge anymore. When I walked in I was greeted very professionally and friendly. The staff is also very knowledgeable, and quickly diagnosed my issues. I was told "it would be done by the next day. And it was, and has been fine since. (a year and 1/2 now) Also, the $ charge for the replacing of the fan and battery was low enough to surprise me! I left there very satisfied. I also have a Dell laptop that I acquired free because the person I got it from could not figure out how to turn it on. That, I figured out instantly. Once I turned it on I saw it was loaded with viruses. I also brought it to Fix My Computer. They cleaned it up and installed an anti virus within a day or two. The cost was again very reasonable!! I can't say enough good about this shop. They know what they're doing and don't try to "rob" you, the best in the area. I am a very satisfied customer and will go to them with any future issues! Definitely 5 stars!! And, I found from a friend, they do "house calls". Now that is "old school". Again good price to come out! That person is a satisfied customer also. The best way I can describe this "repair shop" as it is called, by the old saying "you get what you pay for". However, in my case I wasn't even that lucky. I own an HP touch screen laptop that somehow acquired two large cracks in the screen. While it was still operable I decided to take it to fix my computer where I was told "no problem, I'll order the part which will take about a week, and I'll call you when it's done." I thought great, he only quoted me $125 or so to fix it and he'd call me if there were any changes. Almost two weeks go by without contact so I called him to find that he had ordered the wrong part from China, it'll be another week. One week later, I am still wondering why I haven't gotten a single phone call I was promised when I dropped off the computer. I call again, guess what? Next part wasn't the right one either. You guessed it, one more week passes in which I am without a computer. I call again to be told that HP and his supplier is the issue, the real part I need is going to be over $400 uninstalled. Nope, I decided I'm coming to pick up my computer I don't wish to make that kind of payment after all this time. This is when I began to get insulted and screamed at over the phone by the owner of this "business". He immediately became defensive and went on about how it isn't his fault, I can't come pick up my computer because it's in 100 pieces in his shop, etc. I told him especially at this point I would just like my computer back as I have no interest in continued business with you. He told me that it is ridiculous I couldn't understand the terms he was using the describe the parts, and that I couldn't understand why he couldn't put my computer back together. I now understand that he couldn't put it back together because in the process of taking it apart, he did more damage to it. He told me it would be 140$ to put it back together and it wouldn't be touch screen anymore. So I am paying you more than I was quoted originally for my computer, which was more functioning when dropped it off? After much debate and the WORST customer service (SCREAMED at and INSULTED) I have ever witnessed even in movies, I picked up my computer without a screen and was charged $63 for this "professionals time." I advise nobody use this man as a repair service. I cannot speak for his retail items as they seem to have good reviews but when it comes down to repair (which his shop is named of), it's definitely worth spending the extra buck to go to Best Buy or other shops who care about your business and at least has the courtesy to treat you like a wanted customer. Hell, they might even give you a phone call when your repair takes a month longer than quoted. read more
