I recently brought my Mac Desktop in to Alliance. It was barely working at all- I had painstakingly started creating my tax information for my accountant, and I already had spent several hours inputting detailed information into my Quicken Account. I was told originally (at Alliance) that they wouldn't be able to do a migration of the information on my old hard drive- however, when I called back - Mike answered and he was not only helpful- but said that he would start the migration- right away- and that it might take two days. I feel like it's my civic duty to tell everyone about this place! I found out about Alliance through word of mouth and am now paying it forward. I took my 2 year old Toshiba laptop in to get looked at in June to The Geek Squad and was thoroughly disgusted at the price they wanted to charge me for a simple diagnosis. So disgusted, I actually bought a new Dell for about $200 more than their estimate. I put the old laptop away and didn't think about it. However, a few people told me about Alliance, vouched for their technical skills and economical pricing so I went into the LeMoyne store with my old laptop when I needed to retrieve some data off of it. The storefront was bigger than I expected and in addition to technical support, Alliance offers refurbished and new machines (both laptop and desktop), as well as a good array of pc peripherals and parts. Not only did I get a free diagnosis, I got my corrupted hard drive replaced and a full data retrieval of info I thought I had lost forever .... all at a very modest price tag. I contemplated kidnapping Rich Peterson, the tech who not only fixed my laptop but also gave me some great insight to a free anti virus program that is superior to the AVG that I had been using (it's avira, by the way). He never made me feel like a technological cretin and was very patient and extremely helpful. I read the reviews on the other Alliance location and to be truthful, I think Rich may have been the differentiating factor in my positive review of this place. That being said, there is usually only 1 tech and 1 floor person working at the same time so, I will caution beforehand ... if you are looking for quick turnaround, you may have to pay extra for it. Since my Toshiba is my back up laptop, I had the luxury of time and of course, that eliminated a lot of my stress in getting this laptop fixed. I also turned in my old old Compaq laptop that I bought in 2004 for store credit. Talk about one stop shopping! Is zero stars not an option?  It should be, this place deserves it. Easily the worst service experience I've ever had. They lied to my face about the computer multiple times, tried to give my machine back to me with screws visibly missing, and jerked me around for two months only for the laptop to end up in worse condition than when I brought it in, including a piece actually broken off and lost. Yes, I was refunded for the service. No, I don't think that makes up for the truly horrible job done or the con they tried to repeatedly pull on me, and now my case is broken. If you can't fix it yourself, I doubt they can handle it either, but they might just make it worse. Cute dog though. read more

They were not able to retrieve data from my Mac's hard drive when it crashed. Luckily a friend of mine told me they aren't great with Apple products and was able to get 95% of my files from the hard drive. However, they installed a new hard drive for me in record time. read more

I ordered a new motherboard and CPU for my personal desktop computer and installed them with my other components into a new case. I was not able to get it to turn on. I took it here to have the professionals look at it. Their diagnosis seemed to be accurate which was that I used too much thermal compound. My complaints are... (1) that they were 2 1/2 weeks late in diagnosing the problem. They had it for 3 1/2 weeks total. (2) that when reading the technician's remarks back to me on the phone, the technician made it sound like I was a complete moron for putting too much thermal compound on the CPU and (3) that they only have one employee working on weekends. I had to stand in line for 45 minutes to get my computer back. I also had to stand in line for a long time when dropping it off. (The reason I put plenty of thermal computer on the CPU is because I experienced lots of problems in the past from using too little.) read more

All I can say is that Alliance Computer is ALWAYS my "go-to" computer repair store when my computer is unhealthy. I was almost finished creating a video for my daughter's surprise 16th birthday party (which I spent over 20+ hours creating) and then out of the blue, a frightening message popped up on my laptop stating "Windows detected a hard desk problem" - back up your files immediately to prevent information loss". I quickly transported my laptop to Alliance Computers on Derry Street because the birthday party was in two days. After the tech at Alliance Computers reassured me that they would be able to fix it without me losing the video they called me the very next day before lunchtime and told me it was all fixed up and I was able to pick it up right away. Needless to say, the video was not harmed and the next day everyone loved watching the video. Thank you Alliance Computers!!! I can always count on your company to fix my computer and its fixed up so promptly. read more

**UPDATE** So after speaking with the Manager I learned a few things. One of the two men handling my computer the day I turned it over to Alliance did not work there. Apparently he was just a pal of the employee helping the guy out because it was so swamped. The Manager could not explain to me why my computer was missing screws from the bottom. So now what I know is, no one can tell me who handled my computer nor what was done to it. I think that is pretty scary for something like computer service. I have to question if parts were swapped, if it was used for sketchy activities. And even scarier is no one at Alliance can tell me who handled my computer because they don't know who the guy I dealt with actually was. At this point I have decided to dispose of my lap top. I am very worried about what happened to my computer. I think Alliance should consider themselves very fortunate that I am not a litigious person. I really feel they are responsible for rendering my computer unsafe to use. I was also disappointed that I was contacted by a Manager and not an owner. I am a small business owner. If I had Yelp review like this I would never push it off one someone else. I would face up to my responsibilities myself. Someone higher up did call and leave a message after I told the Manager I was upset that this was pushed off on a Manager to handle me but it was too little too late. Alliance cost me $500 to replace my computer, just before Christmas. Pretty crappy way to start my holiday season but I will recover and honestly my time has value too and suing them would eat more of the time they've already stolen from me. So lesson learned! NO ALLIANCE EVER! I feel it's very important that I let people know what is going on over there because this goes beyond bad service. P.S. I do feel I have some burden to bear in this situation. I never should have left my computer there that day. I had a lot of serious misgivings about the situation and I didn't listen to my gut. I should have walked out with the other people who walked out that day. (There were several of them.) To Danielle's response: 1. I was NEVER told my part arrived mere hours after I picked up my computer. In fact I was told my part had not arrived and there was no way of knowing when it would arrive. That is what I was told. So once again the story you are telling is NOT the story I was told that day. 2. No one ever contacted me until I posted my Yelp review. A person claiming to be an acting Vice President called me AFTER I told Jason his call should have come from an owner and I did note that in my update. I said it was too little too late. 3. No one EVER offered to fix my computer for free they offered to install a part I purchased myself. So don't make it seem as though you were going to give me a part. 4. I will not use that computer again because at the end of the day you cannot explain to me what tampering was done to my computer because quite simply you don't know. I had a desktop pc built by Alliance in 2008 and it chugged along fine into 2019 when I realized how much slower it had become so I decided to upgrade. I ordered a new desktop pc to be built. First thing is although I told the tech person I wanted a DVD burner included, when I picked it up there was not such device and I was forced to purchase an external USB DVD burner. When I booted the new computer I had an error message in red letters about a problem with the cpu fan. After a call I was told to return the machine. A tech determined the problem was a defective BIOS for the motherboard and disabled the message. However the biggest problem with this computer is it goes to sleep after a couple minutes idle and requires to be rebooted. I have tried all the windows 10 settings which are indicated for the pc to go into sleep "never". Still happens and neither the keyboard or mouse will wake it up and always needs to be rebooted. What a pain. I found a program called "insomnia" which needs to run on the desktop to keep the pc awake. A conversation with another technician failed to be helpful. I'm regretting buying this boat anchor. read more

I'm very please with the final results of my business with the Lemoyne store, especially Jon, the technician who worked twice on my device. I have an original HP Slate 7 (2800) -- the first one that came out before the Extreme, Pro and 8-inch versions. Due to time, normal wear perhaps and occasional slight twisting of the power cable plug in the USB port, the port was getting very loose and difficult to charge the device without careful placement and leaving the device sit still. I thought perhaps the port could be tightened, so I brought it into the store. When I was called to pick it up 10 days later (possibly delayed due to workload they mentioned when I brought it in PLUS the POLAR VORTEX in January), Jon said (if I remember right )they didn't have a tool to tighten the port but tried to find a part distributer. Because the HP Slate is probably not one of the leading brands, and honestly HP does not have a great inventory of accessories or replacement parts (at least for this first version of the Slate), I'm aware that finding a distributor was difficult. Perhaps only because I'm an HP employee, I had access to finding information about distributors of the HP parts. I found the internal USB cable and port on one site that said it was out of stock. Upon CALLING the distributor and persisting in e-mail for a few days, they said they had ONE for me. The price on the distributor website was $75, but they said they'll give it to me for $35 and ultimately charge only $25 total (nothing more for shipping or anything). When I got the part, I brought it and my tablet into the Lemoyne store. Perhaps I could have installed the part myself, but I didn't want to take any chances. Jon had the part installed and called just two hours later. I picked it up the next day, and they charged nothing more for the labor. Apparently, they applied the time to the hour I paid for the work from the first visit. So, again, I'm very pleased with the results. Thanks much! read more
