SUMMARY
Pros
- Eric appears reasonably knowledgeable, although his fix did not provide a lasting solution.
Cons
- The fix was only temporary
- Does not keep his word
- Poor timeliness
- Questionable customer-service practices
- Expensive repair
- Gaps in technical reasoning
DETAILS
The fix was only temporary
- The laptop began overheating again several months after the repair. I did not make any hardware changes or system restores during that period. Screenshots or video can be provided on request.
Does not keep his word
- Eric stated that he normally does not disclose what repairs he performs because he considers that information proprietary. I agreed to use his service only after he explicitly stated that he would make an exception for me. He later acknowledged making that promise but declined to honor it.
(Related screenshots: 19-27 and Screenshot 65.)
- After completing the repair, he also declined to answer whether a routine system restore (which I perform periodically) would undo or interfere with the repair.
(Related screenshots: 27, 29, 30, 33.)
Poor timeliness
- The repair took approximately six weeks from start to finish. During that time, delays were attributed to suppliers sending incorrect fans.
(Related screenshots: conversation timestamps.)
Questionable business practices
- Despite delays that were attributed to incorrect parts from suppliers, I was charged for an additional set of fans and an extra $20 in labor rather than receiving any price adjustment.
(Related screenshots: 62.)
- After the repair was completed, his communication became increasingly dismissive and confrontational, which I personally found unprofessional.
(Related screenshots: 59-63.)
- When I reported CPU temperature fluctuations shortly after pickup and provided screenshots, Eric suggested that the issue may have been caused by something I did after receiving the laptop.
(Related screenshots: 28-32.)
Cost vs. value
- The total cost exceeded $300 for an overheating issue. To my knowledge, no components were replaced other than the fans, and the fix only lasted a few months.
Gaps in technical reasoning
- During our discussions, Eric stated that Windows core isolation is encryption. Based on my understanding and subsequent research, this is incorrect. We disagreed on this point, and he did not acknowledge the correction.
(Related screenshots: 42-46.)
- I suggested plotting temperature versus time to analyze intermittent overheating behavior rather than relying on a single temperature snapshot. This was not initially proposed during diagnosis.

Other concerns reflecting my personal impressions from conversations not captured in text messages.
- It was difficult to obtain a clear baseline price during the initial phone call; I had to ask several times before receiving one.
- After guessing my ethnic background from my name, he made unrelated political comments that I found inappropriate in a professional context.
- He expressed strong criticism of online repair tutorials, stating that they harm independent repair businesses.
VERDICT
While Eric may have technical ability, my experience involved broken promises, extended delays, communication issues, and a repair that did not provide a lasting solution to the overheating problem. Based on my experience, I would not use his services again. read more
