I just so happened to be at the mall and needed a quick manicure. Luckily, I was able to slip in for an appointment right away. First off, I loved the look of the salon. The chairs were comfy and white, and I liked how the pedicure chairs were elevated. In addition, I loved how many options they had for colors. I've been here a few times with my best friend. I've been looking for a go-to nail salon for a while since moving back from the OC. I've been to plenty of nail salons to have now figured out what I do and don't like. I would consider myself fairly picky when it comes to getting my nails done. I live in LA so this is kind of a drive for me but in all honesty, it's worth it. For the quality work you get, it's fairly priced. I wouldn't say this is the cheapest place I've been to, but I would say this is by far the best place I've been to in terms of quality. Here's some background: my nails grow out fast and my cuticles build up pretty quick, so I get my nails done often. My nails are fairly strong so I usually opt for gel manis. This place cleans out my cuticles really well and apply the gel in such a way that most people mistaken my nails for being fake. I normally don't like acrylics for how uncomfortable they start feeling. More so recently, I've been breaking my natural nails a lot so I've been getting acrylics done elsewhere in the meantime (counter-intuitive, but I just like having longer nails.) Up until I came here to Five Star, I thought I was getting pretty decent acrylic jobs done. It wasn't until I met Katie that she changed my whole perspective on acrylics. I met Katie when I came in for a fill for nails that were originally done at a different salon. In the beginning, I was kind of offended when Katie (nicely) mentioned that my acrylics weren't on straight and the shapes were off. Because I had never experienced a GOOD acrylic job before, I thought that's how it was suppose to be. Katie is quick, friendly, and she pays the upmost attention to detail. She shapes acrylic nails like clockwork and it's the best work I have ever seen. Katie was able to straighten out my nails, even them out, and even shape them EXACTLY the way I wanted them. Her work was so perfect that after she painted my nails, my acrylics looked like what my natural nails would have looked like if I had grew them out. I was so impressed. Worse manicure I have ever gotten. Everything up to the nail polish part was okay. I chose to get a regular nail polish because I needed my nails to recover from being done for months they were thin and damaged. The lady that helped me did not know how to properly paint nails. I had to point out how to paint the tips so that my nails would not chip the next day. There was a bubble and she lied saying that it was my nail. Came here around 4:30 on Wednesday as a walk-in. I called 10 mins before I came bc it was close to my workplace and they told me 20 mins wait and I didn't mind. Tammy helped me out after finishing her client and she did such an amazing job. I previously had acrylics and needed them removed and also got a new set. I went to a different place before and they did it so terrible that I just couldn't deal with them. Tammy took her time and was very gentle with my nails. There was so many colors to choose from and I went with a matte gel with glitter for my fourth finger. Her shaping was amazing and it was beautiful. Im honestly so obsessed with them and she was probably the best nail tech I ever had. I got my old acrylics removed with a new set of gel nails and the total was 53$. The ladies are very friendly and welcoming towards customers. The salon itself is kept quite clean with multiple tables and multiple pedicure slots. My first couple times here I was helped by Katie, very talented technician. She was great! This was my 3rd time here and sadly I had given up my acrylic nails for my new job. I got a classic mani, no gel and a pedi w gel. Also, a $5 gel removal for my mani. Total was $49 +tip. My expectation was not met. I would've corrected the tech who did my mani but I had already been there for 2 hrs. The picture quality doesn't do justice. The color hides much of the imperfections; lumpy, bubbles, & leftover polish on skin. I'm sorry I didn't get her name to warn you.
