I don't get it, I guess. Lots of people love this place but after several tries I just don't see the appeal. The burgers and the toppings are nothing special. I like all the topping options that are all free - that is cool. The fries were decent but I have had better. Is it just me or is this place overpriced, too? I had a little burger, a little fries and a regular Coke for just under $10. If I am sitting down at a restaurant with wait staff, I'd have no problem with that price, but for what is basically fast food (just a tiny step above McD's), $10 is too much. I came to this location on 2 separate occasions after placing my order online for pickup I got my order on both occasions it was wrong. The first time I just ate it and went on even though it was missing bacon and a patty. The second time there was no patty at all with my plate. I told the lady and she just gave me one patty without cheese. I told her it had cheese on it and she gave me an attitude and slapped a cold peace of cheese on the singular patty and put it in the foil pan. I will never enter this establishment again. read more

I usually have a good experience here. The employees here seem to enjoy working here and are very friendly. There was only one time where they messed up my order. I asked for a burger without a bun (which is an option that I love since I'm low carb.). They forgot my order but the manager offered me a milkshake (which I wasn't able to have because I'm lactose intolerant) but then refunded my fries. I really appreciated that they were willing to go the extra mile in order to make things better. The employees here are always so nice, helpful, and seem genuinely happy to be working here. I love coming in for the atmosphere, so it is even better that the food is killer. I always get the cheeseburger with A1, mayo, and grilled jalapenos. The burger is always perfect, amazingly seasoned and delicious. Burgers can be hard to make equally wonderful every time, but after a few dozen trips over the last few years on lunch breaks with co-workers, I have yet to be disappointed. That says something about not only their food and quality control, but also the business as a whole. Highly recommend giving it a visit. It's worth every penny. read more

They are just not cutting it any more in regards to the quality of the burgers. They used to provide burgers that were delicious and juicy, which you can see in my previous review of this Five Guys, but I guess they have a new cook. The customer service is still good and the fries are still delicious, but whoever is cooking the burgers is clueless. The buns are still good and the toppings are still fresh, but the meat is dry and over-cooked. To make matters worse, I submitted a complaint to the Regional Manager where I included a picture of the burnt meat and she sent me a gift card to make things right. That was about six weeks ago and we have been back to this restaurant three times since that and the meat left something to be desired all three times. On my first visit since I received the gift card, I watched the woman very closely as she cooked the burgers and I could tell right away why the meat has been so dry and overcooked. She used a cast iron steak weight to press the burgers down to nothing with all of her weight in an effort to cook the meat faster. What is this-Smashburger? Smashing a burger never makes sense in my opinion because I like my burgers nice and juicy and smashing the meat drains the juice, which is why I ate at Smashburger only one time. I didn't realize why it was called Smashburger until I had one of their awful burgers. But, if you're going to smash the meat, then you should at least wait until the burger is mostly cooked and this woman was smashing them only about a minute after they touched the grill. I also noticed why I end up with hard pieces of dried meat in random bites when I eat a burger from this location-the woman leaves small pieces of meat all over the flat-top grill, which eventually become hard pieces of inedible meat and somehow end up in the patties. If you bite into a patty and feel something hard in between your teeth, please know that those are not pieces of bone, but they are pieces of dried-out inedible burnt beef. We gave this location a fair shot after our initial bad experience-tried it three more times, but we shall not be back. That is why I cannot give any more than two stars. I didn't bother contacting the Regional Manager again about these experiences because no gift card amount is going to make up for the apathetic method in which their cook grills the meat we have had on our three most recent visits. It's too bad too, because Five Guys was once a great place to get a delicious burger and fries at a fair price. read more

I don't know what it is about these burgers, but they are DAMN good. I've had take-out a time or two (delish) but tonight was our first experience dining in so I got to eat the food without the wait. The fries were definitely better fresh (with just a bit of crisp) but the burger was still just as tasty. They did screw up a tad and give me mustard instead of ketchup, but it didn't ruin it for me at all since my other five toppings were correct! There are a lot of things I appreciate about 5 Guys Burgers and Fries. I like that when I first walk in, I can tell it's a place that prides itself on cleanliness. It's so bright and clean even during busy lunch hours which is great to see. I love the selection here as well. I love that you can get a smaller size burger, and my boyfriend can get the larger size. I love all the various toppings you can add, and that your burger is so customizable and tasty! My absolute favorite part of five guys is their fries. I've never had their regular fries, only the cajun fries. Hands down best fries I've ever had. Love them! They are so addicting. Nice and spicy, tasty, FRESH and made to order. Oh and even the smallest order is enough to feed an army. I like the inside and how large and inviting it is to dine in with the pop machines, and various condiments, and free peanuts while you wait. They are also extremely timely and I've never had to wait too long for my order! Great place for fast and tasty food. read more

Walking in to Five Guys, I am always struck by the clean, bright and shiny atmosphere. I don't know whether it's the red and white tiles, the friendly order taker or the sparse dining area with wooden chairs and tables, but the place definitely looks clean, open and inviting. The menu is pretty simple. There are regular size burgers and cheeseburgers, with or without bacon, and then smaller versions of the same. They have hot dogs, with or without cheese and/or bacon. And then there's the fries, which are divine. All toppings at Five Guys are free. In addition to the expected ketchup, mustard, lettuce and tomato, there's also grilled onions, mushroms, jalapenos or green peppers. After placing an order, you find a table and help yourself to the very large bin of fresh roasted peanuts. This is a smart and tasty idea. The burgers are consistently juicy and delicious. I order the double (regular) with cheese. There's lots of cheese, and lots of meat. And lunch usually requires several napkins. Five Guys uses 100% fresh U.S. ground beef. It's never frozen, and it is hand-shaped into patties. Likewise, the potatoes are made from 100% American potatoes. Potatoes are fried, with skins in 100% peanut oil. I usually get a little cheeseburger with various toppings and split a regular order of fries with my boyfriend. The people who work there are typically engaging and funny. Our last visit had us talking video games with one of the guys on the line. We had just been at GameStop and picked up a few games. Plus you are usually greeted/acknowledged as soon as you walk in the door. I always find myself munching on the free peanuts too just because they are delicious. The food isn't gourmet, but if you want a step up from regular fast food joints and would rather have something freshly made in front of you then this is a great place to go. Also, they give you a TON of fries. We always do the regular size between two of us. You get the cup full of fries plus an extra scoop. Probably no need to order separate sides of fries unless you're really really hungry! read more

We love Five guys burgers and go there often. But do yourself and favor and don't go to this store. Usually all is good. To save time we call in the order and pickup to go. This time we called and and waited 30 minutes to get our order. When I saw that people who had ordered after me were getting their orders, I approached them, only to find out that my order was ready and nobody had called my name. The food was sitting there getting cold. Not only that, the order was filled incorrectly. Not wanting to make a scene at the store, i took the order and called later to make management aware. Typical Five Guys. Great food and options for your burger or dog. Fries are a must, but the sizes are huge, so a "Little" fry order is more than enough for one person, even the extra hungry of us. I was super stoked to finally be checking out this place, and I'm sure the guy behind the register could tell. When they found out we were "Five Guys" virgins, they all yelled "Hi Kate!" I loved it. The same guy that took my order came up and gave us crayons and blank index cards to draw on while we waited for our food to come up, which took no time at all, but just long enough for me to write "Burger!" in block letters with a sky blue crayon and eat a few of the complimentary peanuts. I'm no burger connoisseur, but that was one of the best burgers I've had. Not in a fancy restaurant kind of way, but in like the backyard BBQ kind of way. The difference between the Cheeseburger and the Little Cheeseburger is the number of patties, regular having two and little having one. Now that I know better, I'd just get the Little version because that was A LOT of burger for me. The Little would have been plenty and maybe I wouldn't be desperately wanting a nap at the moment. Let's cut to the fries. I got a "Regular" Cajun fry, the small size, and I'm not exaggerating when I say they gave me at least 4 potatoes worth of french fries, if not more. It could have been 6 even. It was a lot! They were overwhelming, but delicious. I don't think I'd get the Cajun the next time, but I'm glad I tried them. It was just too much of the same thing, I think. All in all, I was more than satisfied with my lunch at Five Guys Burgers & Fries, and I'll definitely be back. I found it funny that a Rush song was playing over their sound system and the guy flipping the burgers looked a bit like Neil Peart, drummer and lyricist for the Canadian trio. I'm curious. As the son of immigrant parents, maybe this is something I would never have known, but why are so many burger places and/or their logos done in a motif including red and white. What's with the checkerboard pattern? The red and white tile on the walls of this Five Guys reminded me of the Purina logo. A pet food company's logo is probably not the best association for a customer's mind to draw in a burger place. My trip to this Five Guys location marks the first time that I've ever actually been in a Five Guys. I thought my experience might be different if I ate the food at the source. Hence, I'm writing a new review. I've had their burgers brought in to me at work. I usually got the buns pretty soggy by the time they got to me. Five Guys has this weird practice of wrapping their food in foil. I'm not sure that's the best way to bag a burger. If you like a steamed bun a la the bun of a slider, well, I suppose that's fine. Personally, I'm not a fan of a soggy burger bun. This time I got a bacon cheesedog and a cheeseburger. The hot dog bun was soggy thanks to the foil-wrapping issue. The burger managed to escape that fate. Still, the burger was fine. It wasn't earth-shatteringly good. I could go through a litany of things that I find wrong with that burger, though. I think I'm going to click the "unlike" button on the customizable burger idea. I used to like the idea, but it leads to a randomness in the application of toppings that just doesn't serve to balance a burger's taste. The biggest taste I had in this burger was the lettuce and tomato. Perhaps it was my fault for only getting a single patty. The customizable burger has such problems inherent in their concept. I am now of the belief that it's a bad idea. There is a reason that fast food-icon burgers are successful even though they're not customizable. Those icons were carefully constructed, I imagine. Anyway, the dog, well, it had bacon on it. So, since bacon makes everything better, I liked it in spite of the soggy bun, which, is a bit off-putting. read more

I went to the Five Guys in Oak Park. I was not happy after all the hype. This Five Guys is basically the same. I was waiting for things to calm down a bit and then FINALLY while my wife and I were shopping at Target in the same parking lot, I felt it was time to go give it a try. Same experience. The burgers are well done and basically Wendy's. I had a Bacon Burger. I meant to order a bacon cheeseburger but screwed up. I ordered pickles, onions, lettuce, ketchup and mustard with tomato. They put close to six pickles on. The lettuce was crisp big iceberg. Two tomatoes and the other ingredients overwhelmed the the two patties. WHICH WERE dry and over cooked. I finally took the condiments off just to taste the burgers. Bad. Not grey matter McDonalds bad, just over cooked non-seasoned beef. Another bad experience at what is supposed to be a national chain of great reviews. Besides the peanuts and the coke products (thank the gods) the burger was bad and dry. My wifes cheese on her burger was cold and not melted. I cannot recommend this place to anyone. My kids even thought the fries were too greasy. I took them home as a gift for them and after a few they discarded them. i cannot believe that anyone who is in this area would eat this and call it good when RedCoat is just down the street. Without a doubt one of the best burgers I've had in a long time! We ended up here after a last-minute shopping trip to find an Easter dress for my daughter. My wife and I had cheeseburgers that were very generously topped "All the way" (everything but the Kitchen Sink) while our daughter tends to have much simpler taste had a naked double.It's not very often that the three of us can dine out for about $20 including drinks and fries without someone being disappointed. This is now one of our favorite places and will be sure to be spreading the word! read more

It's quite expensive considering it's not a full service restaurant, but the food is very good. Burgers come regular size (two patties, a bit over half a pound I believe) and small (one patty, a bit over a quarter pound). Fries come in regular or large - basically they fill a cup with fries, but then also throw an extra handful into your bag. Everything is very greasy, but the burgers are much better than the other fast food chains. The Cajun fries are very good as well (and they really are just fried potatoes, nothing funky going on here). The regular fries are good, but not great (just potatoes, not much flavor). A "regular" (double) burger with bacon and cheese is around $7. Fries are just under $3 and a regular soft drink is $2. Overall, that makes for a $12 meal which is about twice what you'd spend at another fast food location, but the food is considerably better. If you prefer food quality over dining experience (you have to wait at the counter for your food and then take it to a table) then the prices are reasonable, but you should know what to expect as prices are more in line with a casual dining restaurant chain than a fast food chain. Peanuts are free, and delicious. If you have a peanut allergy, I'd highly recommend going elsewhere as they are everywhere. read more

Where's the Beef? I've been a regular here since it opened and have become less enchanted the last year or so as the burgers have shrunk by about 30%. Overall I like the concept and the staff is friendly but you need to decide if you're selling a "burger" or a slider. For me it's not about the money so much as having you guys as a brand live up to your promise. You're brand is dis-integrating and so will your customer base if it hasn't already. I just went to Five guys with my 6 year old.............and hands down.........the worst burger and fries I've ever had. My son even agreed. I think that Mc Donalds and B.K are better as far as chains go. The only reason I gave 1 star is because the peanuts were good and I liked that they had malt vinegar for the fries. The burger was thin, dry, over cooked and tasteless, the fries greasy, over cooked and again tasteless. I can't believe people eat there. I even had a friend tell me that it was great. Well, it wasn't cheap and I will stick to Red Coat, The Emory or Miller's if I want a burger, they're only a few dollars more. read more

I love it. When I want a really good burger and fries (to heck with cholesterol) this is where I go. I moderate it somewhat by getting the smaller cheeseburger (one patty instead of two) which is perfectly adequate. Large assortment of free toppings are available, I get grilled mushrooms, lettuce and tomato. The fries are the best I've had, fresh unprocessed tasting and with the skin still on. You can ask for them without the extra salt shaker treatment and they are happy to oblige. read more
