My family and I came here on a Sunday just after church around 130pm. To our surprise there was no wait and we had the place to ourselves for about 30 min. It was great not having to wait for lunch time and being seated right away. This is a great place to watch sports because they have a good amount of tv's all around the restaurant. It wasn't loud at all, but again we were the only ones there until maybe 3 other tables showed up during our meal. The service was good, but being the only ones there, you might have expected to be a tad bit more attentive with our drink fill ups. The food was good and they served good portions for the price! The burgers were plump and juicy and they had a wide variety of selection. The shrimp platter I expected more shrimps. But the portion size of the tater tots was enough. THE BEST burgers and for a great price! We've been here a lot. I'm finally able to set a burger down to write this! The Burger Bar has a great open seating area and awesome food. Even though we've been here a lot, for carry out and dining in, I've only had a few of the menu items. When you find what you like here, it's hard to give anything else a chance. I usually get the Russell Street or the 3 slider combo. Both I usually get the seasoned waffle fries along with a beer or two. Drive by here often on our way to downtown Rochester Hills. Place I am told used to be a Mr. Bee's. It's brighter inside than the Clawson location. Lots of TVs and feels more like a sports bar too. Ordered 3rd Avenue Turkey Reuben, side of upgraded onion ring, Greek town Greek salad and the gratiot burger with the Turkey burger and waffle fries. Their cleaning solution smells awful, or it's the yellow rag, it smells like a mix of bleach and dirty mop water. It's nauseating every time they clean a table by us. Our Greek salad isn't out yet. The table that was seated well after us has their piping hot French onion soup before our Greek salad, makes little sense to me. Where in the world is our Greek salad, she even asked if it was our starter. The Greek salad finally came out and seconds before our burger too. The Greek salad was so-so. Had a rotten lettuce or two in it. The Turkey patty is frozen and super fatty. I had gristle and fat in every single bite. It was disappointing and disgusting. The Turkey Reuben wasn't what I was expecting. The rye bread as thick like Texas toast, not my thing. Removed the bread after a bite and ate the pan fried deli Turkey meat. The waffle fries were the best part of the meal. The onion rings were just average. The bill at the bottom states there is a 3% convenience fee on all credit/debit card payments. Their food and their customer arrive to CC folks stinks badly. Poorly done. It's not like is a mom and pop shop at all. I wasn't pleased by the food and more displeased after being charged 3% for using a credit card here. Once again punishing folks that don't come here with cash. No mention of a 3% charge for CC payments on the menu and you don't find out until you have already eaten and received the bill. Sherry should have told us about the 3% charge. This place has a really bad business model for a touted burger joint. It's a burger spot. If you offer up any patty, even if it's a veggie or a burger patty, make it fresh. Why give non-burger eaters a lesser patty that's frozen and nasty? And don't be the cheap-o and charge a 3% fee for using credit cards. You are not a hole-in-the-wall mom and pop burger joint. Solid burger! I think some places over do it with burgers. I like to keep my burger simple with the basics and not a lot of extra fluff. Patty was well cooked and actually medium rare like we asked. It is a 1/2 lb angus so it it a good size. The waffle fries were still crispy by the time we got home. The sweet potato fries however were soggy and didn't seem like they fried well at all but were still tasty. Price is very fair. The food was ok, not great. My corned beef sliders were a bit over done and the meat was dry. Fries were good. Biggest complaint was the server with attitude. After our food was brought, we were one plate short - mine. I asked the waitress for a plate and she indicated that I should remove the sour cream and salsa (about 10 of them) from a serving plate and use that as my plate. I said - you want me to remove the salsa and that's my plate? She said yep. I said bring me a plate please. Very nicely, no attitude. She then did several things, ignored me, walked off and eventually came back with a plate for me - just to let me know that I wasn't going to tell her what to do. This is very similar in concept to Detroit Burger Bar in Farmington Hills, down to the branded bun, gigantic 1/2 lb burgers, and giant knife stuck through the center. However, it doesn't seem to be directly affiliated since the website for Old Detroit Burger Bar does not include Farmington Hills as one of its locations. At this location, I ordered the Michigan Ave burger, which is topped with bbq sauce, pulled pork, cheddar cheese, and fried onion strings, in addition to the standard lettuce/tomato/pickles that come with it (I omitted the raw onion). I got this with a side of tots. The burger was pretty good, but quite heavy and greasy. It was also medium to medium well instead of the medium rare that I ordered (which is typical, based on my experiences in general). Without all the special toppings, the burger would have been quite bland - there wasn't much flavor at all. The tots were good, though. They were hot and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I did originally order a slider basket, which comes with 3 sliders. I thought that I could mix and match options, but that's only with the 6 slider sample platter (way too much for one person...). I didn't feel like ordering 3 of the same slider...that's just a lot of bread and probably not much meat. Might as well go for the full burger. I also ordered a Vernors float (Vernors, Jameson, and vanilla ice cream) that was delicious, but costed $8.00, which seems excessive. All in all, it was a good meal. I was just served the worst chicken sandwich I have had at Old Detroit Burger Bar. I was in the mood for a good chicken sandwich and the one on their menu looks great (see pics). They should really consider offering it instead of what they served me. You can see what I was served in the other pic. I ordered it with bacon and Swiss added but only got the bacon. No big deal and they offered to add it but I declined as I didn't want to add time to the meal. The sandwich meat was very, very dry and was the kind of frozen chicken patty you would buy a sleeve of at the supermarket. Thin, breaded sawdust. The bacon was very overcooked and to add to the dryness, the bun was grilled. This is a trademark of this place and on a greasy burger it's a good thing, not so much on this sandwich. On Tuesday March 27 I wanted to try this place due to the name and a craving for a Burger and Beer (that's the taste way to go) my opinion. On one TV was a Red Wing hockey game, my favorite team. (They are done as I type here, didn't even make it to round 1 of the playoffs= sad). We were greeted by our waitress Marijana to take our drink orders which were all beers to go around but different flavors. The "craft beer" menu, attached certainly has a lot to choose! Also their "speciality drink" menu. Even though we missed happy hour for half price on drinks, we were able to experience "The Special Tuesday" offer = order a drink and get half off a burger or sandwich. My beer choice was a Atwater Dirty Blonde (my hair is NOT) for $6.00. We also ordered the Old Detroiter Appetizer combo platter to share which was 4 chicken tenders, 4 breaded cheese sticks and onion rings for $11.00 Since this restaurant has a Detroit theme, many of the drinks, food and dessert entrees are named after a certain landmark in Detroit. So one can pick their favorite place and try that food item. Our waitress made a comment that the kitchen is "backed" up with orders since its Tuesday so she took our dinner food order also in case the timing would be long. Okay we said but I made the comment to PLEASE DO NOT place our food order to go in the kitchen till AFTER we start to eat our appetizer platter, so we will not be rushed. We want to relax, drink and talk for nice evening together. So by the time we all finished our beers our waitress was not around to check on us yet I saw her in back chatting with another table. After 30 minutes no appetizer and no refills, not good. I am not a patient person when it comes to a place to eat with speed and accuracy. When another 10 minutes went by I called another waitress passing by to find our girl and why such a long wait? in less than 5 minutes our waitress comes over to our table with our platter to share between the 4 of us. Then a minute or 2 later out comes a kitchen helper with all our 4 entrees while we were snacking. What ? Say one thing and do another? Unacceptable now we all have to rush to eat since our burgers and fries that were hot. Who's at fault the waitress or kitchen with such bad timing on service?? When I asked her she had no answer and walked away to another table to chat with friends she knew ? Spouse ordered The Troy Wrap which was grilled chicken, bacon, shredded lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese with bbq sauce in a warm tortilla and tater tots as the side. A great choice. Note: When ordering a burger or sandwich one has a choice of potato chips, waffle fries, tater tots or onion rings. Great variety for sides. I ordered the Russell Street burger which was a 1/4 # with cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and also with tater tots. How nice that the "buns" on burgers were "stamped" with their logo. My burger was cooked proper medium well and had great flavor with crispy bacon the way I like. Our bill was reasonable photo attached since Tuesday is 50% off 1 entrée when a bar drink order is placed. We were happy for that along with the other couple we were dining with since they paid for their own meals too. We left a 10% tip based on slow and incorrect service not the food. A quick peek at the restaurant's menu online and I was game to try this place. Any place with so many burger versions definitely merits a visit. The space is large and given the late afternoon timeframe, still waiting for customers to show up for the dinner rush. Twenty or so screens were mounted throughout the restaurant so every seat was provided a view of a basketball, golf, or baseball game. A grape Faygo to start while deciding: should I try the burger topped with guacamole, sour cream and two kinds of cheese? Or should I have the one with pulled pork and onion rings, topped with barbecue sauce? In the end, I went with the Russell Street burger, medium rare, with bacon and onion rings. Onion rings! And since we're talking about onion rings, I also subbed out the fries with (more!) onion rings. A few crispy mozzarella sticks to whet the appetite and my burger was ready. Sadly, the burger itself was severely under-seasoned. And the cheese, bacon and other toppings surprisingly did little to add flavor. The battered onion rings were the only tasty things on the plate. They were quite good, and they came with a zip sauce for dipping. I ordered a patty melt and got the waffle fries with it. The burger was quite good and big -- I took half of it home! The waffle fries were also very good, and half of those came home with me as well. We shared the fried cheesecake rollups for dessert. We got it with raspberry sauce and ice cream. We had an awesome waitress; she was very honest about the food section, so she didn't agree with everything on the menu which is fine. We enjoyed the fact - she wasn't pushing products on us. The food was very tasty and filling as well; I would say the place is mid range price on the food - nothing too cheap and nothing too pricy, right in the middle. The only suggestion I have is maybe some more lighting since they use dark colors for the color scheme. Maybe they are looking for the night club feel instead. Honestly, I don't know why am reading so many negative reviews when I went to this place the food was awesome! It wasn't the best burger I ever had but it was definitely delicious the onion rings were good, and the waffle fries were amazing absolutely amazing! I came with my boyfriend to get some food and I remembered this place after visiting a different restaurant around the area decided to stop by and ordered the regular Detroit burger, it was a perfect medium rare that I enjoy. And to be honest it wasn't the greatest burger as stated earlier, but if you're around the area just trying to grab a quick bite I would definitely recommend! Walking in, the place was nice and busy for a Friday night, so I ended up sitting at the bar. After reviewing the menu, I ended up getting the 2 sliders with Tater Tots. I considered getting a beer, but passed since I wasn't really feeling it. I do love that they have a decent selection of booze here, which was nice. I was pretty happy with the food, and my server was good considering she said she was new and the place was considerably busy. My wife ordered tuna sliders with sweet potato fries - as she always does (one or two times a months for years), and look at the photo. There's a $1.50 upcharge for sweet potato fries - she had eaten two fries (2!!) and was working on a slider when I took the photo. I asked the server when the plates were delivered what's going on, and didn't get an answer. We ate our dinner, and I asked our server again what's up with skimping on the fries, and we spoke to the manager, who took my phone to show the kitchen. No waiving of the upcharge - no "hey, you guys are good customers, so I'll knock $5 off - nothing but, oh, we've had turnover in the kitchen, and I'm really sorry". Wow - we're regulars. I will say my portion of regular fries was clearly way smaller than "normal" too. I paid the bill - and on our way home, we decided we don't need to go back. There are other choices available. We dicided to come here again to celebrate my brother in law and sister on buying a new house. The burger bar is clean, spacious and theres a lot of tv's for sports. The people here are friendly and seems like everyone knew each other. Our waiter did a great job and always checking up on us. We ordered the i-75 burger to share and my brother got the Old detroit classic burger. Their menu here has a lot of food to choose from and so many burger options.
