I was just done eating and I couldn't bring my drink I'm the car without a lid so I asked for one, the people there looked and didn't have anybut as I walked out and threw my drink out, the worker ran up and gave me the lid and as we told him about how I threw the drink out he took me inside with him and gave me a bigger cup and a lid for it and it literally made my day. Through the whole thing he was smiling at me and talking to me like asking "how was your day" or "I like your pants" and he is the nicest service worker I have ever had an experience with. He had yellow highlights I think and was pretty tall. I don't know his name sadly and I wish I did. If someone there sees this please tell him how much I appreciate people like him. This is a tough review to write because I helped open this restaurant. I worked here in 2012 when it opened. I know Shane (the old manager), and Jim and Millie (the owners). I like coming here to support the business I helped open. But tonight, they got my order so wrong, I don't know if I will go back. 3 of my burgers were supposed to have extra bacon--there was none. Two of my burgers were supposed to have bell pepper and jalapeños--there was none. One burger should've been little and it wasn't. Years ago, I sampled Five Guys and thought, "it's ok." I tried it again and I was wrong: It's better than OK. Side note: Check out the NPR podcast, How I Built This, June 5, 2017, which interviews Jerry Murrell, Five Guys founder. Interesting guy, interesting story. Let's start with the calories. Dinner here tops 1500 very easily. So get over that or just eat half the meal. Next up: the fries. Stellar. They were as good as fries get. Super-fresh and super hot. Uncannily hot, in fact. 15 minutes later, they were still hot! Chewy-tender, with lots of crispy edges, well browned. Salt was perfect (most places overdo it). Even if they didn't have bags of potatoes as dining room decor, you would know these are made from fresh, not-frozen or pre-processed potatoes. I would have these as dinner, by themselves. The burger. I am a snob on this topic, as I like my burgers medium or medium-well and chains aren't generally allowed to do that but having said that, this was a juicy, meaty burger. Or, I should say, "burgers," since the "hamburger" is delivered as a double. The place was clean, service was efficient. I'm a meat-loving girl from Texas, raised on the best home burgers and surrounded by the best quality beef around. As a result, I'm a little pickier than your average bear when it comes to burgers. This place is burger basics at their best. My first experience with Five Guys (several years ago, in another state) was dismal- I just didn't get it. With the larger size burger, with that particular thickness, there is a risk of overcooking and drying out the patty. But sometimes you just want a burger, and decide to give a place another shot. Enter this place, this location, last night: took the BF and was happily surprised! I got the little cheeseburger, he got the regular bacon and cheese, and we split the regular-size cajun fries. Don't let the word "little" get you down, this burger is still a good size. Love how the toppings are included- I went all the way and got the grilled mushrooms and onions, ketchup, mayo, and mustard, and pickles, along with the usual lettuce and tomato culprits. BF insists the larger size was absolutely necessary for his appetite, and assures me the bacon was indeed with the extra charge. Burgers were juicy and messy, and tasted just like what I remember from being a kid. Can't beat the taste that brings back good memories. The fries, though. A regular is more than enough for three or four people, I can't imagine what kind of group needs to order a large (maybe a family?). Our bag easily had two cups full of fries. And yes, we ate them all. Just a hint of spice and a wallop of flavor, they rank really high up there in my hierarchy of fast food fries- but this place isn't really fast food, either. I just witnessed the nicest thing at this location. A homeless man was outside going through the garbage can when an employee, a young man with curly blonde hair, came outside. I thought he was going to ask him to leave, but instead he handed him a bag of food and asked what else he could get for the man. He said that the man could come back anytime he was working and he would buy food for him. He asked several times if he could get the man anything else. On October 27th, I placed my usual weekly order at this restaurant where the prices now reach about $20 for a cheeseburger, frys and a drink! Red Robin and In-n-Out sell the same items for about $12! I drove home, sat down in my sofa to enjoy my dinner to discover that my plain cheeseburger was prepared with everything on it and not as I had ordered! Pickles, lettuce, onions, ketchup and mustard all over! I packed everything up and drove back to the restaurant. I pationally asked for the on duty manager and met Paola. I asked for the order to be remade according to how I specified it with the original order, and requested a refund as a goodwill customer jester as other restaurants do. She immediately went to the back of the restaurant, calling someone, instead of providing me with good customer service. She returned in a few minutes stating that she spoke with the district manager who they agreed to either refund the money for the retuned food or remake the order. I explained to Paola that an hour had passed since my original order was placed, I had driven home and returned, and good customer service would dictate that the order should be remade along with a refund as similar restaurants would do. Paola informed me that her district manager and herself would like me to leave the property and take my business elsewhere! She needed to return back to work and she started calling the police on me for requesting the refund in the first place! I'd like to as the community to honor my request and friends of mine to not patronize this restaurant anymore. They don't represent our community values and spirit by this behavior and poor customer service! Although 5 guys are pretty much any typical burger, this place gets an extra star because of customer service! My boyfriend and i come here quite often when we're hungry after school and he ALWAYS ALWAYS wants burgers. such a burger fiend.... but who am i to complain? i love burgers too ^___^ (hehe so asian) Five guys is better than McD for sure, but they're a little more greasier and oilier than In-n-out. I was passing through SJ on a Sunday evening when I needed some dinner. Ordered a bacon burger, small fries, and a lemonade online through google. Waited abt 20 minutes (I know Five Guys can get busy), but my food was not ready when I got to the restaurant. I don't know if they received my order or not, but there was a lot of confusion about where my order came from and what was included in the order. Instead of apologizing and trying to make things right, the store manager asked if I was in the correct Five Guys. I told him that I was, because I had ordered through Google maps. They offered to make my food there and I said OK, but it took another 10 min on top of the 20 that I had already waited. When I picked up my drink was still not ready and had to be retrieved from the back. The manager had a smirk on his face like all of their f-ups were cute. Then, after leaving the restaurant, I discovered that my order WAS STILL WRONG. There was no apology or admission of fault from this store throughout the whole process. Even a coupon or some type of discount would've been nice... just some acknowledgement that my order was lost and I wasn't served correctly. Ordered online for pickup on a Friday evening. When I arrived, the restaurant was packed. Everyone from staff to customers were wearing masks, but social distancing was not enforced, probably because the staff was overwhelmed. When I went to the counter, I was told that my order would take another 10 minutes. Checked in again 10 minutes later and the order was still not done. Ended up waiting 30 minutes after my scheduled pick up time before giving up and having to leave for home so I wouldn't be late for a scheduled call. The staff was too busy to even flag down to tell them I was leaving. Tried calling them on the car ride home to let them know to cancel the order but nobody picked up the phone. It's the middle of the pandemic and everyone is trying their best, but overall pretty negative experience given the lack of social distancing, the over 30 minute wait past the scheduled pick up time, and the inability to even get someone in the store to cancel the order. Ended up having to call the corporate line to try and get a refund. Unclear whether that will happen or if I'll end up having to do a credit card charge back. I'll give them another shot on the other side of the pandemic but won't be going back during. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER 1. Didn't put bacon in my burger so I returned it. I thought the stuff was going to remake it so I asked them to put extra toppings. Instead they gave me bacon, lettuce, mushrooms, and tomatoes on the side wrapped in Tinfoil. I didn't know that I had to make my own burger. 2. Everything was so cold. My fries were cold. I hate complaining since I worked at Starbucks for 3 years and I have worked in the restaurant business for 4.5 years. I know those customers that complain but I hate being those people. BUT everything was just plain BAD. 4. Rachel A. was very rude to my friend and I. And she "refunded" our account. A few days later I noticed that I had been charged twice by her. This store owes me $22.36. And they owe my friend as well. I called my bank and filled a claim so I should be refunded in 10 days. Here is how I would have resolved the situation. First ...remake the whole burger the right way because no one wants to make their own burger and eat a cold meal. Two ... if there is a hair in any food product the shift manager should automatically give the customers a refund. Why? So by now, I am guessing that most folks have had the Five Guys experience. This burger joint is the East Coast version of In-N-Out. Now there are some important pros and cons versus In-N-Out. Before we get into the Five Guys v. In-N-Out, let's go through the Five Guys experience, particular this branch. MUSIC: The music is 80's hard rock. Lot of VanHalen and such. For older folks, there is a little nostalgia, and a little why did I like this crap. For the younger folks, I am guessing there is the WTF factor? SERVICE: Hyper-friendly. I typically like my service friendly and less in your face. However, they do mean well and are very attentive. I wish this location was a little busier so we'd get asked if we need anything else, more ketchup? less than 3-4 times per visit. PEANUTS: Big plus if you enjoy peanuts, but if you have a peanut-allergy, STAY AWAY!. There are peanuts everywhere. They have two big bins, and the Toucan Sam (Raisan Bran commercial reference) metal scoopers [sp?] to serve all you can eat. BURGERS: Very fresh tasting and very messy. You can add a ton of toppings and condiments on demand at the counter. NOTE: The standard burger comes with 2 patties. FRIES: Huge portions and expensive. Not good. SODAS: They have one of those new-fangled Coca-Cola insta-soda machines that can deliver literally 100s of different sodas. The great thing about this location is that they have 2 of these so there is not a huge bottleneck which can happen at other busy restaurants. You get behind someone who has to navigate through 14 screens before making a soda decision, and it gets old fast. vs IN-N-OUT. COST: Five Guys is more expensive, but the burgers are also much larger. QUALITY: Both are good, but Five Guys is actually better. I know this is sacrilege to say in California, but it is true. The fact that the patties are much larger means that they come out juicier than In-N-Out's. CONVENIENCE: This is where In-N-Out wins. The Five Guys burgers are hugely messy. You are going to need around 9 napkins minimum before you complete one burger. The burgers tend to fall apart half way through too. FRIES: Another strong victory for In-N-Out. They put some seasoning on the Five Guys burgers, but they are pretty lousy regardless. Super salty and pretty limp. Plus it is annoying that they give you a ton of fries that you will never be able to finish. Seriously, I thought In-n-Out's portions were ridiculously large till I say Five Guys huge feed bag of fries. CUSTOMIZATION: This is one of the biggest differences between Five Guys and In-N-Out. Five Guys encourages huge customization, where In-N-Out believes in a one size fits all system. CROWDS: In-N-Out is way busier. Five Guys seems to be doing OK here in the Bay Area, but they are not diminished In-N-Out's popularity. CONCLUSION Five Guys provides a superior burger than In-N-Out. It tastes like one you would grill in your backyard with all your favorite accoutrements. I do think In-N-Out provides a perfectly decent burger and fries at a great price. In terms of taste, the nod goes to Five Guys. read more

I have had great experiences with Five Guys so far in terms of their service level and great food. Their waiters are always friendly and very nice. I love the selections of toppings here that are unique and not offered at other places such as A1 and hot sauces. Although the pricing is indeed more on the premium side (in comparison to places such as In-n-Out), I do think the quality warrants it. I highly recommend the bacon cheeseburger with the works, which includes preselected toppings to help accelerate your order process. The Oreo creme and cookie shake is amazing as a dessert. For a vegetarian who likes the texture of a "burger" bun and fillings, without meat or a vegetarian patty of any kind, this place is decent. Your options as a vegetarian are very limited here, but its tasty for what it is. You can get a no-cheese just veggies filled burger (mushrooms, peppers, onions, tomato, lettuce - etc) or you can order a cheese sandwich and add your condiments. Head's up about this - its much cheaper to buy the cheese sandwich and get all the toppings, then to get the veggies with cheese. SAME SANDWICH, no joke, but with a $1 difference. I have no idea who decided the pricing situation for this, but it is the same sandwich when you read what's in the "everything" condiments listed in red and black. Anyway, save your $1 and get the cheese version with whatever toppings you want. I like the fries here too, they are cooked in that peanut oil so they have a decent taste (comparing them to In-and-Out). Overall, very very limited for a vegetarian without any kind of veggie patty substitute, but manageable and tasty if you like that sandwich texture and flavor without needing the patty. My co-worker and I came here for lunch one day and left very, VERY content! I got the bacon cheeseburger with a bunch of toppings, and a beverage. My co-worker got something similar. Once in a great while a restaurant earns a five star rating with me. Customer service, quality and taste of burger fries and soda, cleanliness in seating area and bathroom area, all fabulous! Five Guys in CA is just as good as the ones in TX and LA. Burgers are great and the fries are better any other. My son loves the burger bowl with grilled jalapeños. Their "little hamburger" is the same size as other places regular burgers. I love the way they give you fries in a separate bag. Some places let one or two fries flow over. I swear there are as many fries in the sack as there is in the cup. We will make a special trip to go to Five Guys, and I am glad I looked on Yelp to find this one near San Jose. read more

This place, like many other Five Guys locations, gives you so much extra fries that basically half the bag is filled. As for the milkshakes, I highly recommend trying the flavor combination of coffee and caramel. It basically tastes like a more delicious caramel frappuccino from Starbucks that has a stronger coffee flavor. The burgers are, as always, juicy and so so delicious. They really satisfy your burger craving. Forget about Jack in the Box nearby and get yourself a Five Guys instead. HOLY HAMBURGER, BATMAN! It's been at LEAST a year since I've been to a Five Guys and I must say that I have fallen in LOVE...and not at first sight, or second, or even third. My husband and I were extremely excited when this Five Guys opened up within a few blocks from our house (few years ago). all my husband eats is cheeseburgers and this looked like the real deal. When you first walk in, it's amazing: a barrel full of unlimited peanuts, an advanced soda machine that looks pretty nifty, a blackboard on the wall that tells you where the current batch of potatoes are from, etc. Let's just say they did a very good job at making it visually appealing and sparking your interest. Skip ahead to the burgers: The first three times we came here we ordered 3 cheeseburgers and 3 fries (my mother was eating with us), and the bill was just over $30...YIKES! We felt that the burgers were a little too much, the fries were bland and just not worth the money for a "quick" dinner. Needless to say, we stopped coming. Today, my husband and I were almost desperate to just find some burgers that weren't fast food and we were in a hurry. We gave in and decided to just come here because it was so close and we knew their quality was excellent, and we didn't mind paying a little extra this time. When we walked up to the register we were surprised to see that they had added some new stuff to their menu, including LITTLE burgers!! AND they are a couple bucks cheaper than the normal size. SCORE! We ordered one little cheeseburger and one regular size cheeseburger, and a large fries. We sat and waited maybe 10 minutes, probably less, for our order and when we received it my husband had to have some fries immediately, even though we were getting it to go (but who DOESN'T??). We were so pleased to see that the fries were also different, better! At least, they tasted better than they used to to us. For the true burger connoisseur, the quality and taste of the meat makes or breaks a burger. And, at Five Guys, there is something deeply off-putting about the flavor of the meat itself. Despite Five Guys claims of using fresh beef, all their burgers are suspiciously cooked well-done. Further, they must use something to treat the meat itself - either that or the beef is just very poorly seasoned. I have yet to find a national or even regional burger chain that makes really good, high quality burgers. The bar is set high, and Five Guys doesn't even come close. Did they have to post the calories right next to the Hamburger orders? It was shocking to see that one hamburger with nothing else takes up 90% of your caloric intake for one entire day. Buzz kill. So here's my thought. I would get the mini cheeseburger, which was really just a normal burger with one patty. I also got the cajun fries. As soon as I got into the car, I reach into the bag and was shocked to feel around for so many fries! They really don't skimp here on portions because it seemed like they dumped an entire cup of them and then some. Was I complaining? Nope. Were they good? Yes. The burger didn't disappoint either with all of the extra "free" toppings that included grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, mayo, ketchup, and lettuce. It was nice that you could pick out all of the toppings without an extra charge. Before leaving, I noticed the free peanuts they offered. I love this place. I've been here a few times, and I'd never been here before. Sorry In-N-Out, but you just got moved DOWN to #2. Five Guys coming in HOT for 1st place. Burgers are juicy and thicc, cheese is fresh, meat is fresh to death (literally), and produce is tasty and also fresh. Fries are seasoned to perfection and a tad soggy (MY FAV), and fat af. They give you a million fries, too. For example, if you order a regular (middle size), then they give you DOUBLE the regular fries. SIGN ME UP!
