I love the milk shakes!!! Burgers are pretty good and service was good. Not a fan of the fries.

I absolutely LOVE Five Guys' burgers. I wish I could cook them like they do, and I've spent time googling the process. I feel like they're so tasty that I eat them too fast and don't really get to enjoy it. The toppings are great, I go for a Bacon Cheeseburger w/ everything and hot sauce (everything only gets you the toppings in the top row). You really can't beat it. The fries are also delicious, they are made from fresh potatoes and they have a sign listing which farm they came from that day. They also have all the potatoes piled up around the dining area. They fry them in peanut oil, and it really gives it a good flavor that is different from what you might normally expect. A tip on the fries: get the Little Fry. With the extras they put into the bag, it is enough for 2 people. They also have the new fountain soda machines that let you choose you drink on the touch screen. This also allows you to customize drinks with different orders. It is the only place I can ever find Vanilla Coke. Great burger, great fries, and great coke. YES PLEASE! I have one problem with this place. Every time I go to order my burger I ask for a bacon cheeseburger and every time they ask me back if i want the LITTLE one. NO I don't want the little bacon cheese burger. If i'm eating a burger in the first place, size really isn't on my mind. What is on my mind however is that I want to stuff my face with a delicious burger with a side of your phenomenal cajun fries. The cajun fries....so yummy! Everything here is always fresh...lettuce, tom, etc. They have a ton of different options to personalize your burger for maximum yummyness. I stick with jalapenos, hot sauce, peppers and mushrooms. Everyone knows Five Guys, and I'm glad they're finally penetrating the Boston area somewhat (though I'm still waiting for a Cambridge location, guys!). Went here for my first go-round this past weekend, and really enjoyed it. A burger and a soda come out to about $8, and with fries it gets just beyond $10. The fries are the thicker, market-style fries, well salted. Things I already knew about Five Guys: -Fresh burgers and hand-cut fries, a la In-N-Out but somehow not quite as good -clean, fast-food atmosphere -burgers with free, made-to-order toppings (there are no stock/standard burgers) Things I didn't know about Five Guys: -the standard burger is a double patty (800+ calories!) and the "mini-burger" is the single (that's kind of deceiving) -the regular-size fries is enough to feed a small family -loud 80s music (you decide if it's a plus or not) How does it compare? I'd say it's more fresh/homemade and less greasy than UBurger and a step better than Four Burgers in Cambridge. Think of a glorified Wendy's (squarish patties and all). I like it. read more

Went twice. Once during a weekday lunch our with a co-worker and again on a Saturday with my wife and kids. The burgers are good, well-made and juicy. I'm a big guy with a big appetite and the little burger is big enough for me. The fries are okay, but I like mine to be a little crispier. Some day I may try a hot dog and then I will have eaten the whole menu. That's it for the menu! 3 things, but what more do you need? The downside was the noise. They play 80s Rock at a high volume, which is fine for a crowded weekday lunch, but it was way too loud for my family. We had a small problem with them forgetting one of our burgers, but I put that down to a new employee rather than to the restaurant itself. Back to the food: The burgers are indeed messy, but good. They give you a ton of potential toppings, all free for the asking, including grilled onions and mushrooms. Yum! Bacon and cheese are extra. Finally, the price is good. Five Guys is a great place to visit if you want a change from McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King... however they do offer good food and service but the second you walk into the door it like being on a used car lot where you are being asked to order without looking at the menu.... I loved the Five Guys in VA the one time I had it. So when we finally got them up here I had to check it out. Both the Foxboro location and the Dedham location lived up to my expectations. I can't say the same about Randolph. Not yet at least. And I know it takes time to work some of these things out. My main complaint is that the burgers are overly dry. The patty's don't poke out of the bread like they do at other locations because they shrink from being overly cooked. Definitely not the juicy (some say greasy) burgers that Five Guys is known for. And this is coming from a guy that doesn't like to see any pink in his burger. All other locations have managed to maintain a juicy burger at the medium well to well cooking level that is standard. So when they work it out I can see myself moving the rating up to a 5. The hot dogs are great, the fries are great and the staff works well together. The place is clean and there is plenty of parking in the front and out back. If they can work out the dry burger problem I can see this place lasting in the notoriously finicky Randolph. read more

Went in - novices - ordered the cheeseburger had no idea it would be a double - too much! But cooked to perfection, 15 toppings, design your own burger. Great burger, next time will order a "mini" burger. Not a fan of the Cajun fries but that's me, I loved the regular fries. Definite go to for a burger didn't feel like fast food. Very top quality burgers and fries that come at flat prices. Fountain allows for free refills and top experience. The atmosphere is very upbeat and seems very classical/old school. Sorry, I can't comment on the burgers since I got the grilled cheese. The bread was good but the cheese wasn't totally melted. My vanilla shake was thick, creamy, and very filling. Definitely only order the small fries. The medium order was way too much for the three of us combined. They were okay, nothing special. The restaurant was very clean, but it was at a slow time of day. And fyi they have peanuts free for all customers and use peanut oil to cook the food. read more

I've driven by this place a million times, have been wanting to try it for ages and I finally stopped there and had lunch this afternoon. This is one of those places where you order at the counter and they call you when your food is all set. Just pick your burger and let them know what you want on it for toppings as they have plenty to choose from. I had their double burger with cheese and got a small order of fries to go with it. They have a bin full of complimentary peanuts that you can help yourself to so you have something to munch on while your food is being prepared. They have a free style coca cola machine there where you pour your own soda and the options with this machine are endless. I was very satisfied with my burger and it really hit the spot. However if you're looking for dessert, don't expect too much here. They offer milkshakes but that's about as close as you'll get to dessert. After a hard day of work and too tired to cook we decided on burgers. The staff were super friendly and looked like they were having fun enjoying their job. The restaurant is clean, the staff is friendly and the food comes out relatively fast. Catherine took my order and was very courteous, efficient and friendly. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with pickles, mushrooms, mayo and ketchup. I'm not going to give a low star rating for this, because it's my own preference and I'm not looking to hurt the staff or establishment; that said, I think I'm done with Five Guys. Lately, I haven't been able to put my finger on exactly why their burgers have disappointed me the last few times. It occurred to me that the buns get WAY too soggy before you're even half-way finished eating. When I ask to have ketchup added, I want to taste ketchup. Not a ketchup soaked bun. This doesn't seem to happen at other competing burger chains, just at Five Guys. Perhaps this could be remedied by placing ketchup, bbq sauce, mayo or mustard in between the burger patties? Slightly toasted buns don't suffer from sogginess either. Regardless, it's not up to me how your burgers are prepared, but this is a low point for me, and it's been a drawback for my previous visits. Over-cooked, flat, nothing but well-done burgers. The cooks lean on the burgers with all their might using a press while they cook. Best way to make a dry burger. I've been to 2 locations and won't go back. Being gluten-free, I cannot eat their burgers on-site without the buns as they don't provide paper plates, just cheap foil. Five Guys Have The Best Burgers I Ever Tasted And One With A Side Order Of French Fries Is A Meal In Itself ! Excellent Food ! *

Well, I came in here the other day after the wait at Lynwood was an hour and a half for an order (talk about a victim of success). Walked in and the staff handled my order reasonably quickly. The burgers I ordered were filled to the brim. The operations seemed efficient when I was there, but it was a busy time of operation (Saturday night), so it was good service speed and it seems like they were keeping everyone's orders straight, seemingly triple-checking them. I'll take this chain over the other burger joints, the only 'issue' being the lack of selection, but that is a non-issue since they do well what they focus on. Burgers, hot dogs, fries, and that's it. The fries are hot, but not as crisp as I typically enjoy them. Very lightly salted to start, so if you are a salt fiend, get the packets ready. Overall, they're good, and an excessive portion, the size of a large being a 20 oz cup... and the equivalent on a metal tray dumped into your paper bag after it is placed inside. Definitely fries to enjoy in the first 5-10 minutes after you have them. Afterward, they become less appealing. No normal human should be able to finish a large order of fries on their own unless it's a meal in itself. It looks like a day's worth of calories. I don't expect to get my food within a few moments, so some who are expecting McDonalds' speed efficiency would be sorely disappointed, but the quality more than makes up for it in my opinion. Burgers are cranked out as the orders come in, rather than kept in a steam locker. Despite how heavily they're topped, they're not that messy to eat. I'm actually happy they offer the tubs of ketchup instead of packets, for the simple things in life. I hate dealing with ketchup packets. read more

I have been here a few times. The burgers are good, however they only cook them to one temperature, well done. And their regular size hamburger or cheese burger is two patties. So if you are not that hungry go for the "little burger" Fries arent that great, they are very soggy and they just throw them into the bag, so the great bleeds through the paper bag and causes it to rip. I love 5 guys! They have great tasting burgers with lots of great toppings. I like the small cheeseburger with everything. I like the fact that you have to wait a few minutes to have your burger made to order. The prices are a little more than the golden arches, the red headed chick, or BK, but the quality is so much better. The double cheeseburger is too much for me. The first time I went there, I HATED the fries. But I had an idea. The 2nd time I went there, I asked if they could make the fries well done. Now they are the best fries ever, crisp on the outside, hot and flakey potato on the inside. Instead of "checking in" at Five Guys, I take a pic of "Today's potatoes are from....Rexburg, ID" and post to FB. And then everyone is jealous because they know I got the killa burger and fries! Me and my father decided we needed something to eat before going to the dark knight rises at the Randolph theatre so we stopped here for a quick bite. Inside it kind of reminded me of a 50's diner with classic 80's music playing, there are very innovative touch screen coke machines which was really cool and you can also sit out on the patio (don't unless you want Randolph traffic watching you eat). They also let you take free peanuts (don't ask me why.) I ordered the double bacon burger (Keep in mind that they assume you want a double so if you want a single burger you have to tell them.) The burger was delicious but a bit on the greasy side but this place isn't for people that are on diets. Huge portions and nice golden fries. Overall, I enjoyed it thoroughly. The only negative is the prices are really steep for a fast food joint. read more

Summary: Hype is greater than Reality. Unfortunate buy true. More: I have friends who rave about 5 Guys. It's not that the burgers are bad. It's not that the hand cut fries are bad. It's just that the stories people tell, the "have you tried 5 guys yet?" questions, all work up a story of these burgers and fries as the stuff of legends. They just aren't as good as the hype. The other issue here is the peanut oil. This means no kids can come along because of the issues with peanut allergies. The restaurant is very Spartan. The decorations are OK, the bags of potatoes stored out in the dining area lead me to think that it's kitch working overtime rather than anything 'real' happening.
