I stopped for dinner at Five Guys Burgers restaurant in Howell, NJ on Saturday December 2, 2017 at 730pm. Upon arrival the employee told me that they were out of hamburger buns. He stated that I could have a lettuce burger if I wanted. That's ridiculous. I walked out. I'm sure many others did as well. What major franchise would run out of hamburger buns, I never seen anything like this in my entire life. What I can't figure out is , how can a burger that goes against my burger beliefs be any good?? These burgers are thinner than I like them and cooked more on the well done side, yet they still manage to be delicious!! The fries are always good and fresh. A regular order is enough for 2 - 3 people. This store has the new coke machines that allow you to make a wide variety of different flavor cokes!!! If you happened to have read my recent review of PJ Clarke's in Lincoln Square, you'll know how excited I was to have discovered the surprising tastiness of Sir Kensington scooping ketchup in my formerly ketchup-less life. To celebrate, I stopped at Five Guys on my way home from work for a small bushel of french fries and a burger for the young gentleman. Five Guys have "gotten" what so many other places (especially NJ diners) have not: Figure out what you do best and don't deviate from it. As far as I recall, the Five Guys menu is burgers, fries (surprise, surprise), and hot dogs. There's actually two varieties of fries and what they deem a "veggie" burger (not really - it's just a burger-less burger which in my book, is not the same thing at all). Burgers come single or double patty, and with or without bacon and/or cheese; a plethora of toppings are complimentary and at your disposal. I am completely ignorant of the hot dogs, but the fries are very good - fresh cut and competently fried to order, not too thick and not too thin. There is a sign on the wall displaying the name and location of the farm providing the spuds for your fries, which means nothing to me, but makes me feel special just the same. Fries also, come "cajun" style. Fountain drinks are dispensed to order from computer-controlled mixing machines that allow children to come up with incredibly foul concoctions of Tab and root beer guaranteed to delight them to no end. On the other hand, the Coke here is perfectly balanced and snappy and will bring you back to the fountain soda of your youth. Lest I forget, there's also boxes of complimentary fresh, salted, peanuts in the shell to munch on while you wait. Even though I'm quite fond of the fries here, I only stop by a few times a year, because, unless I want to be riddled with guilt, I have to be in the mother of all fry-eating moods or bring a small french fry deprived village along to share. A small order of fries entails enough fries for two enthusiastic adults in a small tub, placed in a paper bag and then buried beneath an additional layer of fries, hence the reference to the small village. A large order of fries is too frightening to contemplate. read more

Delicious burger great fries, I love that they put out fresh lemons for your Coke and malt vinegar for the fries. Little things like That is what makes a place unique. I will also say the staff was very attentive and friendly, thank you for a good experience. read more

I honestly just realized five guys was considered "fast food." For years I thought it was a healthier (whatever that means) alternative to typical fast food joints. The fries are from Idaho potatoes grown by American farmers though!!! Seriously the fries are really good but they give you wayyy too much. The burger is amazing and so tender. I know I shouldn't eat there but hungry or not I find myself stopping at five guys for at least a cheeseburger. read more

If it wasn't for the horrible prices at this place, I would have gave it four stars. The burgers are very good for a fast food joint, but the prices will run you up the wall. For example, If you want the basic burger, fries, and a drink, that will run you about $12!! If someone else is buying, recommend 5 Guys. read more

Best of the burger chains, hands down. I've tried In N out Burger and Jack in the Box on the West Coast and I think they don't hold a candle to Five Guys. Very simply formula for success: fresh meat, quality ingredients, customizable condiments. I'd put these up there with Shake Shack in NYC, they're that good (and a bargain, too!) Also, try the cajun fries - fresh cut (w/skins) and nice seasoning! read more

Had a Five Guys. Two days later had an In N Out burger in Calif. Went back to five guys again to be sure. Hands down Five Guys is better and I have ALWAYS been an In N Out fan. read more

As a loyal customer to five guys I come here quite frequently. I walked in on Tuesday April 17th around 5:15pm and sat down to eat my food. I couldn't help to over hear the 2 female employee's conversation about her virginity and how she had "three relationships that weren't really relationships but they were sexual." I didn't see this as quite profession being that there was a child in the store and I was trying to enjoy my meal. read more

Probably my favorite place to get a burger when I'm starving and need food ASAP! It's five minutes from my boyfriend's house so we go here all the time. I always get the bacon cheeseburger, and I love that they don't cheap out on the bacon. Their regular burger has two patties, which is why their burgers aren't exactly the cheapest, but adding toppings doesn't cost any extra so it's worth it in my opinion. Their burgers have so much flavor! And I recommend always getting the smallest fry size, because they give you about three times more than the cup they tell you is a small. It's like $2.50 for the small, but it's worth it completely. It seems like $8 for a burger is a lot for fast food, but go to Applebee's and you're gonna spend like $15 on a burger with no flavor and go bankrupt in the process! Highly recommend Five Guys. However DO NOT GO IN HERE IF YOU HAVE AN AIRBORN PEANUT ALLERGY! They do have peanuts to snack on and they do fry their fries in peanut oil!!! read more

This franchise has been going downhill since December. Fries are overpriced to begin with but the extremely small cup was overflowing into the bag. Since December the portions have been getting smaller and smaller. $3 gets you a (litterly) a handful of fries now. And they are now overcooked. Of the two soda machines at least one drink is always empty. Lately the ketchup dispenser is usually empty. Since December the old crew has been replaced almost completely. Looks like new management has ruined one of the best burger spots in town. Too bad. read more

The Howell 5 guys is the best. The burgers are consistent. Fresh, juicy and cooked perfect every time. The restaurant is super clean and the staff are beyond polite and professional. Love this place and the 5 guys burgers. Fries are pretty amazing too!!!! read more
