Since this is a mere hop, skip & jump away from my place of employment, my coworkers & I decided to go here in the first few days of opening. Not that we haven't been to A Five Guys but just not this one. So let's see what we have here - pretty spacious & plenty of places to sit. Very organized line system. Large menu board that's pretty easy to read, and provides you easy ways to order from the multitude of toppings they offer that don't cost you a dime extra. THANK GOD. ALSO, thank you order lady who reminded me that the normal cheeseburger in fact comes with 2 patties, not one. Which is basically 1 patty too much so I got the "little" burger (even though there's nothing really little about that burger!). The burger itself is of course, tasty and fresh but a word of caution for those who take it to go - it's juicy, and if you add any condiments, it just gets soggy on the drive home. It WILL fall apart. So don't complain, I've warned you! The fries are....OK. I still am not crazy about them, either way you can order them. And whilst not FAST food (in terms of how long it takes) they are pretty speedy getting the food out, even when busy but you will likely have some tiny wait. My guess is they appreciate a good burger more than their west coast compatriots. All i read on here is about aoggy this or getting my order wrong with this topping or that topping. People pile a burger high all kinds of toppings then expecting it to be some unjuicy barely edible fast food look alike is not possible. This is grab yourself some napkins and get busy. This Five Guys location is not as consistently good as the previously location we uses to live close to (in CA). The burgers are typically juicy and well made without screwing up the add ons selected, but sometimes you get your burger (bag) handed to you, only to find a soggy bun, which is never enjoyable. The flavor of the meat though along with your selected toppings just melts together in a way that it just great! The fries are typically more miss than hit. They will come out greasy and limp/undercooked or over cooked. There never seems to be enough seasoning added when you order the Cajun style seasoned fries. The regular portion size is more than enough for two people, you could share with three if you really wanted to. We ordered the little portion size this evening and it was enough for two to split and we hardly had any fries left after eating our burgers too. So as far as price and fry portion you get your monies worth. As for drinks I wish this place had the customizable "Coke freestyle" machine. Not a huge thing but it's super cool to be able to just tap the screen and add any flavor from vanilla to orange to your soda. Yeah the fries are amazing and the only reason I come back, but the burgers are nothing special the buns end up soggy before you finish. You can get just as good a hamburger down the street for half the price and more toppings. If I want fries I'll go here, but for that reason alone. Took my whole family (5 of us) to five guys with high hopes, we ordered 2 of the double cheeseburgers and 3 smaller burgers (there was no kids menu) we also ordered a Large Fry (to share) and 2 milkshakes 1 salted Carmel and 1 strawberry. Ok so first of all the prices are extremely high, the burgers had no flavor in the actual patty, buns were soggy. Fries were decent. Milkshakes were both awful, we threw them away. Salted Carmel has no salt or Carmel in it at all so a very watered down milkshake, the strawberry was awful maybe the put the salted Carmel syrup in it as well, but I couldn't drink it. A burger place where the best thing on the menu is the bacon hot dog. Five Guys is "ok" - not bad food by any means but not in the same league as Best Burger and BBQ or Killer Burger. The thing I LOVE about Five Guys is the toppings you can choose from at no additional cost. The thing I dislike is the fact that the burgers are all doubles - I would rather have a normal sized single patty than a double burger. Single patties are easier to eat and frankly leaves more room for condiments. Not a bad place to go if you need a fix, but not my first choice. I also think they are slightly spendy for what you get. I would rather drop a couple bucks more for a gourmet burger from one of the previously mentioned locations. read more

It's A Fry-able Option! While I've rarely found myself here I decided it was time for a review. They have a really hard working crew here that's all smiles and very helpful. We all know the drill with the gourmet fast food chains......simple menu with solid food that's a step above your drive thru! Plus those roasted peanuts are always a plus! Being vegetarian however, you're pretty limited here. I'm okay with that.......it's just that the veggie sandwich is a big mess. They are very nice about grilling the veggies separate from the meat and put together a menagerie of grilled mushrooms, peppers, onions, etc., but with the super soft bun and no real protein it just falls apart and you eat it all with a fork. A veggie burger patty is needed and I'm sure it's not the first they've heard of this. However to be fair.........they do what they do best and there's better veggie options elsewhere. I still think they make some of the best fries anywhere and on occasion they make a nice snack when you're craving fried potato-y goodness! Overall I'm impressed with this location. Always clean, including the restrooms, and everyone is bright and cheery and the atmosphere is always welcoming. While they could do with an update on the menu for veggies, and the signage(all the best burger awards and reviews hanging up are from 10+ years ago), this is still a great place to get a quality burger and fries. This time we took our order of two burgers and a regular fries to go. We got in to the fries on the way home and were not disappointed; they have that slight crust and nice soft insides that for us makes a great French fry. When we got home we unwrapped the burgers and dug in but the bun in one of the burgers quickly disintegrated and there wasn't really a melding of ingredients that goes with a good burger . So let's start off by saying that 4 stars here does not equal 4 stars at other, higher quality joints. But it's really all about expectations. And Five Guys does what they basically seem to set out to do... Let's go to the chart: 1) Get you in and out as quickly as possible, maximizing the space inside for seated patrons. Check! They have the ordering line going around the outside of the room, although some folks seemed to have trouble understanding the signs (arrows can be so confusing, after all). They appeared to subscribe to the Fuddrucker's theory of patron crowd management; use your own supply boxes and stores to create barriers that mark off where the cattle are to be herded. 2) Simplify the ordering process so as to make it easy and quick. Check (mostly)! They have burgers (with cheese and/or bacon as major addons), fries (hence the name), that offer either "Five Guys" style (which I think is salt, if last night's experience is an indicator) or Cajun enhancement. They also offer Dogs (with various accoutrements) and Sandwiches (grilled cheese and veggie options). To wash it all down, they offer soda cups of varying sizes (well, regular or large) that you can fill yourself from their bounteous fountain. One part of this that I greatly appreciate is the variety of included trimmings for the aforementioned burgers: Mayo, Relish, Onions, Lettuce, Pickles, Tomatoes, Grilled Onions, Grilled Mushrooms, Ketchup & Mustard are all included on your burger unless you specifically ask them not to add them. On top of that, you may add the following items: Jalapeno Peppers, Green Peppers, A.1.® Steak Sauce, Bar-B-Q Sauce & Hot Sauce. Personally I love that they offer to do what I do with virtually every burger I make at home - replace the ketchup (catsup?) with BBQ sauce. Next time, I will probably pare down some of the other includes as well...but one needs to experience the intended offering at least once, right? 3) Serve up your food fast. Well, they kinda fell down a little on this one. My wife and I probably waited for around 15 minutes (or so) for our meal (2 burgers and some fries). I'll write this off to them still streamlining the process and getting everyone up to speed. That said, the guy working the handoff asked us specifically about our number and let us know when our food was nearly up. Communication and effort count for quite a bit in my narrow, little world, after all... 4) Give you food that doesn't suck. Check! The fries actually tasted like potatoes (rather than grease and salt) but they definitely left an oil slick on the bag that they unceremoniously tossed them into. The burgers were surprisingly tasty and they certainly didn't skimp on the toppings. The buns were soft, but didn't fall apart like so many other fast food options...in fact, it held together for the entirety of the meal (which we'd taken home). That said, it's still a bit of a gut bomb...but, honestly, what did you expect? Note to self: the double burger was unnecessary and made it difficult to get even my big mouth around it. All in all, the experience met or exceeded my expectations. It was a little on the spendy side (for fast food) and the order filling was a little slow. I really like the Five Guys approach. It's a fast food place that mostly sells burgers and fries. They aren't mixing up the menu every 6 months to experiment. They know their formula works as it stands. The burgers are nicely cooked. They let you customize the hell out of your burger. I think the free peanuts are a nice old-timey amenity. They give you plenty of tasty, lava-hot fries. My only complaint is that the fries are usually a little too salty for me. The staff are plenty fast and fairly professional. I came here because the hype I heard from friends and reviews but it wasn't worth all of the praises that people were singing. The Burger: Other than the onions and the pickles, I felt that everything else in my burger was kind of bland (including the meat, bun, and the sauce). The "Little" Burger is still plenty fine (one patty instead of two) and you get a lot of toppings to choose from but there's nothing too out of the orindary. No goat cheese or pickled daikon or anything like you'd find with a standard Portland artisan burger. The Fries: You get plenty of them. They're a little greasy but they're ok. A small serving will easily feed two. For some reason, everyone compares this to In N' Out Burger of teh fast food world but to me, that's like comparing a Cadillac to a Kia. You can taste the fresh, never-forzen meat at In N' Out...and there's a lot less grease involved too. There are plenty of great local places that serve a better burger for a better price, I'd suggest one of those instead. If free peanuts, an unlimited soda fountain, and free toppings is what you fancy, then Five Guys will do the job just fine. If you want quality, local meat and a burger with flavor, try one of the many food carts around that do a stellar job at showcasing how real food is done. read more

First, there is propaganda regarding how good their burgers and fries are from people all over the USA. If the burgers and fries are so good then why post comments all over the restaurant including the bathroom! They have an option for cajun fries which I ordered since I am from New Orleans area. The cajun fries straight up SUCK. All they do is add a seasoning to the outside of the fries which makes the fries nasty, and they are nothing like the cajun fries from a fast food chain called Rally's in metro New Orleans or Popeye's fries. Cajun fries are created from the batter and seasoning, not just a seasoning sprinkled on the outside. Next, I have three critiques regarding the so called famous burger: 1. The bacon is too thin and crispy. It seems to be precooked bacon that come in thin strips. 2. The onions and mushrooms are put on the bottom bun which half way through eating my burger, the bun came apart. I then had to figure out how to hold it. 3. The mushrooms seem to be canned because the quality of the mushroom is horrible. A sliced fresh mushroom would be ideal for the so called best burger. The pros of this place are excellent customer service, classic/hard rock music that plays inside and outside the building, the way the burger is cooked and the taste is great, the sauted onions are great and they give you lots of fries. Clarification upon revisitation. I went back when I wasn't shopping-crazed and starving, and it was...OK. The food was fast-food fine, but not especially crave- or comment-worthy. The bag was still super greasy, but I still found it endearing. I was hesitant on trying chain burgers, but after Don B and Robb both giving the approval on these burgers, I decided to add them to my search for Best Burger, the winning spot currently held by 4th Street Brewing in Gresham. I was torn and maybe this review is a 3.5, because I hate the fries. First time I went, the fries (un-cajun) were decent. The second time (cajun) they were gross and bland, except kind of spicy. The idea of the fries is great though, they always use different potatoes and list the type and farm on the board. I guess they could always be slightly different, but it seems they always make them pretty mushy. However, I just can't give the burger less than 4 stars. It is freaking delicious. The meat on it's own tastes fresh and delectable. The bun is thin, so it kind of melts and fuses to the burger. Although I generally prefer the bun to stand up to the sauce, this merging of bun/burger is quite addicting. I love the customization options, and how cheap a burger can be with all of this stuff added. Most places will charge about $12 for a bacon cheeseburger with jalapenos, bbq sauce and grilled mushrooms. A lot of additions are up to $1 each. So this is almost half price! I couldn't believe other reviewers saying this is expensive, a double bacon cheese burger with all the fixings is $6.19!!! A little burger is $4.89 and it's not little, it's a regular size burger. Small fries ($2.89) is more than enough to share between 2-3 people. Our entire meal was $12.67 for 2 burgers and fries. The 2nd time, it was $14 for a huge monster double bacon for hubby with mass additions, regular burger for me and fries to share... This is fast food prices, but so much better. They even list calories, and you can order ONLINE! Yes, this review is long, but they have squeezed into 2nd favorite burger spot for now, and I'll try other types of fries, since it's $1.45 each (small is enough for both of us). I cheated on the no-beef diet in order to try one of the doubel cheeseburgers and fries that had been praised up and down by co-workers and friends alike. As a no-cow person, I am understandably biased, but the burger was extrememly greasy and didn't seem to be all that special- I could have made a similar one at home. The fries were greasy (of course) but wonderful, and reminded me of Al's Burgers and Fries in Burlington, Vermont. The nostalgia alone can be enough to go back and grab the fries! I thoroughly enjoyed Five Guys. YES it's greasy. But as an occasional thing I'm not worried about it. I feel safe saying this place has some of the best fries I've ever had. They were just divine. My guy and I got a large fry and shared it. I could have eaten more fries to be honest. They were so good. But I was seriously full, I would have been eating them just because they were good. A large fry is huge and definitely enough for two people to share. As for the burger, I enjoyed my burger very much, it was absolutely better than a fast food burger, no competition. They are messy... so grab lots of napkins and don't go there wearing your church clothes. I was a little surprised though, I kept hearing all this hype about the toppings, that they have ANY topping you could want on a burger... wellllll... I can think of a few topping that I would want on a burger that they didn't have. Not really something they should be docked for, but would really have loved some guacamole (charge extra if you must! How can you not offer this?!). They have all the good standard stuff. I think the most exotic thing they offer as a topping is jalapenos. I got mushrooms and grilled onions on mine. Along with the standard lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard, and ketchup. You have to pay for extra cheese, but that's not a shocker, I don't know anywhere that doesn't charge for extra cheese. Price wise, it was more expensive than say McDonald's or something, but what do you expect... it's not a drive through restaurant, and the food is better and freshly made, AND completely customizable. Come on now, how can you possibly still expect "fast food" prices. I don't consider this place to be a fast food restaurant... it's like a hybrid blend of a sit down and a fast food. It's cheaper than Red Robin's burgers and more expensive than Wendy's or McD's. Fairly priced I would say. The atmosphere was alright. We had our 8 month old with us, he's pretty chill, enjoyed watching the cooks (which was kinda neat for us as well), they had lots of high chairs, and coloring stuff for older kids. It worked on us so I can only imagine how well its been going for folks who are less finicky about food. The thing is... FGB&F is not going to go down in history as the world's best burger... but... it's damn good. With your choice of sizes (small = 1 beef patty large = 2 beef patties) great fries (you can get 'em cajunized and spice it up a bit) and a handful of fantabulous toppings (caramelized onions, mushrooms, bacon, etc...) you can find yourself swimming in a sloppy delicious burger in no time. The icing on the cake? Free roasted/salted peanuts in the shell that you eat and simply toss the shells upon the ground. As far as "fast-food" cheeseburgers go, Five Guys really is as good as it gets. I am even going to go out on a limb here and say it is even better than In-N-Out (I used to live 2 blocks from an In-N-Out in Sherman Oaks, CA... it's amazing, but Five Guys is even more amazing). If I crave a cheeseburger, I come here, because it's the best straight-up cheeseburger you can get. Sure there are many great "gourmet" cheese burgers out there, burgers with fancy cheeses with French names I can't pronounce, arugula instead of lettuce, some sort of fancypants frou frou dressing like "apricot compote", but that's not what I look for in a Cheeseburger! Gourmet cheeseburgers have their time and place, and many of them can be outstanding, but the whole phenomenon is a bit like dressing a redneck up in a Gucci suit. It's still a redneck! Ergo, it's still a damn cheeseburger! Take the redneck/cheeseburger for what it is. Although I occasionally like my cheeseburger dressed in a couture evening gown, I typically like it in jeans and a t-shirt much better. And Five Guys serves up the best "jeans and a t-shirt" cheeseburger your money can buy, hands down. Does that make sense? That probably doesn't make sense, does it? Well, I tried. Oh! And one RECOMMENDATION: Try your cheeseburger with just cheese, ketchup, mustard, RAW onion, and pickle. No joke, it's absolutely amazing. I understand that things are different with covid 19 But I had the worst experience at Five Guys last night. First the guy at the till doesn't give me a receipt then gives an attitude and tells me the machine is broken then waves me off rudely when I ask for a number so can get my food. So after waiting a few minutes things spiral out of control when this guy keeps taking peoples or with no number and no recept. The people serving the food finally catch on. And its complete madness trying to figure out who's order is who's. So after another 15 minutes and 5 or so people who came in after me get their food. I get mine. On the drive home the bag leaks all over my pants and my food falls are over the floor of my car whenI go to lift it up.Little too much grease? So even after all that I eat the complete soggy mess of a 10 dollar burger and the last 3 bites I go to take a bite and as i pull the burger from my mouth , I pull out a 10 inch hair that was inside the burger. It took all had not to vomit. I was so mad I couldn't eve call to complain as I was liable to scream at whoever was on the phone. Living near Eugene, OR, I've seen many Five Guys restaurants. I love a good burger (it's probably my favorite food) but I had never tried one. While visiting a friend in Portland we decided to give it a try. Not knowing any better, I got the "hamburger" instead of the "small hamburger." The regular hamburger is actually two patties. That's a lot for me. I could choose from a huge list of toppings, which included mushrooms (which my friend got on hers) but I kept mine pretty basic. I did ask for BBQ sauce (which was on the board) on the side and I added that to my burger and it was fantastic. In fact, the burger was good all the way around. Lots of pickles and tomatoes, plus the two patties that were cooked almost to perfection. I wish they had stuck to mayo on just one side of the burger (they put it on both the top and the bottom), but that was still okay. They didn't use too much. We shared a large order of fries. They were pretty good, but I think they were oversalted. I was having to tap a little bit of the salt off of them as I ate them. But they were still very good. We also got to start peanuts that they had in the restaurant. So we got a full meal. The small and regular burger, plus a soda and a bottled water cost just under $20. So it is kind of pricey. But the food was very good and I could definitely see me coming back here again the next time I get a hankering for salt... I mean burgers. read more

My new favorite! A short bit of business then,on to the meat of the matter. Peanuts served fresh in open boxes. If you have peanut or legume allergies Stay Away! Great basic burgers with REAL meat. Delicious, generous, and full of the oh so bad but,ya gotta love it good stuff. The fries say small. No such thing. They measure the fries into a cup. Put the cup into the bag. They are not done yet. They add a HUGE amount of fries on top of that. Huge patties. Great cheesy foil. I won't eat in the store. I take my meal home and thoroughly enter my cheeseburgersaltyfrenchfrywithmaltvinegar stupor. These truly satisfy my cheeseburgerfrenchfry emotions. Downside: No milk shakes. I also like the fries just a bit crispier,and my favorite partner in dine deeply desires the option for cheddar or other cheeses than American. read more

Tried it about a year ago, pretty danged good. Tried again yesterday, yuck. Maybe I was *really* hungry when I went last, but I still feel gross from yesterday's meal.. I only ate half my burger, mainly because the middle was not cooked enough. Kinda gross, right? And then something I ate DEFINITELY had msg in it. I'm going to call today and ask them because I've found differing opinions and statements online about if there is msg in the cajun seasoning. Headache, nausea, etc. No, I'm not hungover. I want to like Five Guys because they are friendly and they give out free peanuts, but I just can't. It was so freaking gross. read more
