Small leak by the front entrance.
Jason R.

First time at this location, and probably my last. It was pretty late when I arrived, but most of the tables were taken. Unfortunately, the only open tables were very filthy and had leftover garbage. I ordered a grilled cheese and small Cajun fries-- as I was ordering I noticed the prices went up, once again. It's sorta ridiculous now with the pricing but my issues were more with the cleanliness issue. As I was leaving, I noticed there was a leak by the front door when I felt water fall on my head. This place needs to work on their presentation a little better.

Came here awhile ago with hubby to get some dinner after some errands. We didn't remember our previous 5guy experience (upstate ny) and decided to try here. It was busy around dinner time. 1 man at the register and 4 guys in the open kitchen. We were able to watch them prep, cook and assemble our burgers after ordering. They use regular aluminum foil to wrap the burgers-- warning the bag gets greasy especially with fries. If you order fries, it's a small cup that was sitting there (we watched and was worried that it's so cold) but 5guy's tradition is that they also dump 1-2scoops of fries into the bag of food (all over your food) which makes the brown paper bag super greasy. We drove home with our hot greasy food and there was a grease stain on my lap from holding the bag. Overall taste was okay. Maybe because of the timing, but the bacon and sides are sitting there (not very warm). Certain toppings are free which is nice. They have peanuts in bins for you to scoop/snack while you wait for your order which is nice. I asked for extra bag so that I could take some peanuts home and deshell them at my leisure. It was great timing because I needed to buy peanuts to roast and chop for my chicken satay skewers for a family potluck. Got burgers and free peanuts--NICE! Food very greasy and needed plates for fries. Felt like I really need something healthy after this. No burgers for awhile.

Food is alright for the price. Other burger chains serve better burgers, but I do like how there are unlimited toppings here at Five Guys. Toppings were good and had a lot to choose from. The portions of the fries were HUGE and a small is enough to feed 2 people. I got the cajun fries, which were saltier than I prefer but still tasted good. The oreo milkshake I got was really good and probably the one thing I'd come back for if I were craving for it. The cashier lady was super friendly and overall seems like she enjoys her job. In my opinion, pricing at Five Guys is a bit too steep for fast food. Probably nice to try it once since I've been curious for a while, but not to eat out at regularly.

So I came on a Monday and the wait was longg. I got 3 burgers and a small Cajun fries. The cashier was taking orders and she was the one cooking. It wasn't until another 4 people that placed their order did some other people from the kitchen come out to cook. I like that you can add unlimited toppings to your burger to make it whatever you want it to be. They have two soda machines in the back corner. I enjoyed my burger but the wait was long and when I opened my takeout bag, more than half the fries were on the bottom of the bag and they put a few fries in a tiny cup.

What the heck is this!! What the heck happened at five guys?

I ordered a bacon cheese burger with grilled onion mushroom jalapeños and A1 sauce. Instead I got this crap. What the heck is going on!

I ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger with all the toppings. This is what I got.

Usually Im a fan of Five Guys just because I like that you can overstuff the burger with toppings. Which is the only reason I get five guys. But in the span of like maybe 2-3 months, first two times were in order and they did not put bacon even though we ordered a bacon cheese burger with everything. Third time was the same order but through uber eats bacon cheese burger with all the toppings and they literally missed everything. If it wasn't for ubereats, I would've wasted another $30 something on two burgers. The employees are literally doing this on purpose at this point. They hate their job and you can see it from the way they treat customers (through the reviews) and how they make the burgers. Just don't come to this five guys. They literally fuck up your order every time. I gave them 3 chances not spending another $30-$40 on some untoasted buns with two patties.

Some overly seasoned fries.

Sometimes, what you need at 10 pm on a weekday is just a big ol' grease burger. And for that, five guys is an excellent option. I know it's a chain, and I know it's not In-N-Out, but I like them. The burgers are made to order so they are always fresh (even at 10 pm right before they close). The toppings are great as well. Personally, I'm a fan of the sloppy burger but I know that not everyone is. I also like how you can get the burger "protein style" with lettuce wrapping. Fries are decent but nothing special. Overall, I think it's a solid place to go when you are in the mood for a burger and want to change it up from the typical chains. But keep in mind, between a burger, some fries, and a drink you are looking at close to $20. Still, worth it once in a while.

Their milkshakes are delicious and so refreshing, especially on a hot day.

The food handlers were talking over my food. Go there if you want saliva as an extra topping on your burgers.

Employees were nice enough. Burgers were terrible and way overpriced. Fries were not exceptional.

While food took awhile, we were no in a rush and the employees were friendly. The crif burger and New Yorker were too basic for me, but I enjoyed the elote topping for the elote dog. The tots were a nice side to pair with your meal. There's nothing like some hot dogs and burgers before/after drinking, so it's a smart pairing being next to all the bars. Would I come here solely for the hot dogs and burgers? Probably not. But it works great together with PDT.

The crif is pork and beef, New Yorker (all beef) and veggie option. I did a New Yorker (all beef) $4.75 with sauerkraut ($0.75) and the Spicy Redneck which featured a bacon wrapped crif dog with chili, coleslaw and picked jalapeños. Both satisfied the hot dog craving I had. There are also tater tots and burgers available. The bread was a bit stale, hence the 3 stars and the bun split on my New Yorker making it messy to eat. The woman behind the counter was friendly and suggested I try the dog featured this month- featuring a fried pickle or the Tsunami which has teriyaki sauce and pineapples. I would stop here again if in the area, but for basic dog a cart will hit the spot.

It wasn't the best quality frankfurter, but somehow it worked with my indiscriminate palette. Flash forward a century or so, and this is the only Gray's Papaya left in the city. Since I'm a survivor, I thought it only appropriate to take Jamie to the original flagship location and order what else but the Recession Special. Sure enough, they still offer it for $7.50. It was $1.95 when I was a child, but it's still a good deal consisting of 2 Hot Dogs (Photo 10) and a Medium Papaya Drink (Photo 9). The franks were the same as I recall, nothing special but if you add onions and pay an extra 75 cents for the chili, it just works. The papaya drink is not a fruit juice but a puree mixed with sugar and milk. It actually complements the dog in a guilty pleasure kind of way. There was a line but it moved fast. Plenty of room at the red mini-counter, so I was able to relive my youthful dining dalliance with little effort. I went for one filled with gooey mozzarella--so satisfying--and loved how it still kept the nostalgic corn dog look. There are over a dozen creative configurations, including versions with potato cubes or rice cakes, each with its own quirky appeal. Once you choose your dog, there are 2 more steps: pick a dry topping (I chose cinnamon sugar, which added a sweet-savory contrast) & finish it off with sauces from a lineup that includes ketchup, mustard, gochu hot sauce, and sweet chili. My only wish is that there was actual seating (it's more of a grab-and-go spot) & the wall being wide open made it feel a bit drafty. Still, the food is worth it. Definitely a fun East Village stop if you're craving something indulgent & out of the ordinary.
