Five guys has sprung up just about everywhere and all their locations look identical. They have burgers, hot dogs and fries. The cajun fries are very good. The burgers are just ok. You can have 1 or 2 small patties with your choice of toppings. The regular is around $6. I think that is overpriced for whar it is (2 small well-done patties). If you are hungry and in a hurry, it's an ok place to eat at. The fries and free peanuts are the best part. Personally, i prefer smashburger. Overall i'd give this place 3.5 stars. read more

Had a great meal here yesterday. My guy and I went in after being home bound with the storm for a few days. We wanted some burgers. Forget this stew and bread crusts stuff. Winter is here, yet, summer grillin' is calling my name. I'm LOL at the review with the child's burger! I love when you can tell peeps aren't paying attention to portion sizes. Jr, 1 patty and regular, 2 patties. C'mon. So. It's not very crowded and the lot is slick, but here we are and we're ready to go. We need the restroom and they were both very clean, fully stocked, warm water ready, soap foamin' and ready to go! Washed up and met dude at the order menu. The line moved quick and I ordered my new fav, jr cheese with grilled onions, lettuce, tom, green peppers, and jalapenos. It's really delicious. I love the crisp raw green peppers! This long, blonde hair strand was in my mouth with my fries. I have never in my life experienced anything this disgusting. Five Guys is expensive so for me to not be able to eat my food without a foot long hair in my mouth is pretty traumatic. I thought I was going crazy... I figured no it's just my mind playing tricks on me. I go to pull the piece of hair out of my mouth thinking wow this is gross... a small piece of hair is in my food. As I pull the hair out, it CONTINUES to come out my mouth and is clearly way longer than expected. I called to speak with the manager of this location who had an attitude about my complaint and I was told to come in to get a SMALL fry for the hair. I should have received a full refund or another form of compensation for this. I was very hungry and eager to eat for THAT to happen. I will never eat five guys again because of this experience and apparently this is not the first time this location has had "hair" problems. Poor Oregonians, if this is your version of In & Out I am sincerely sorry. Why I hate 5 Guys : 1. Why the fuck do they give you peanuts ? What does that have to do with Burgers? I went here hoping to get a burger that reminded me of In-N-Out, and was pleasantly surprised to get something better. It's not a copy of that other great burger place in Socal, so I can understand the people wanting a taste from home could be disappointed, Five guys is it's own burger. I got the bacon cheeseburger and the large fries. The burger was big and loaded with all kinds of toppings including mushrooms, grilled onions, peppers and A-1 steak sauce. The patty was hand shaped and not like the preformed patties you get from the burger chains, it also had a great texture. The fries were some of the best I have had in a long time. Crispy and plentiful. You get peanuts at the door, throw the shells on the floor, makes the short wait even shorter. If you're allergic to peanuts, you might want to send a friend in as there are peanut shells all over the floor and also, the fries are cooked in peanut oil. The few knocks I have with this place, no onion rings, no shakes, and no fresh brewed iced tea. Other than that, this place is a great burger. read more

Listen up. I know a thing or two about burgers. I have an inner fat man hiding inside of me. This place is one of the best burger places I've been to in the US. And I've had burgers in 49 states! Alaska I'll get you eventually! Anyhow compared to In-N-Out, Fat Burgers, White Castle, Hamburger Hamlet, Apple Pan, Father's Office, it's still up there in the top 5. Why? Simple. Everything is fresh and brought in, usually local, nothing is every frozen, the patties are hand made, and you customize your burger. They won't put anything on it unless you tell them to, which means grilled mushrooms and onions, etc and unlike Fatburgers, no extra charge. The french fries actually tasted like potatoes, like sliced good potatoes. Not the stuff that takes 5 mins to make, the ones where 50 years ago french fries took an hour or more. Those kinds of fries. And without much sauce or filler, the meat tasted like meat. I like hamburgers. It's a strong second to pepperoni pizza and given it's a more common menu feature, burgers are probably my #1 consumed food, especially if you count fast food eating. That said, it's hard to wax in great detail about a hamburger. It's a ground beef patty between two buns. And.... There's a blog about burgers around Portland and I couldn't last a week reading it because the bloggers were such snobby douchebags about them. They're hamburgers! Jesus. We love them because when something so simple is awesome, it's pretty incredible. Tarting them up with brie and truffles or whatever, you're really missing the point. So this is a pretty damn good burger. What makes it good? No idea. Never frozen meat? Maybe. Ground onsite? Is it? I can normally only tell when I hit a piece of gristle. Most places serve a pretty mediocre burger, some hit a few mystery notes right and produce a pretty good burger. This day at Five Guys I got a really great burger. Can't quantify it, don't care to. Eating ain't math. The fries. That's another matter. The first fries I had, the stray ones at the bottom of the bag were pretty freaking good. Like stop what you're doing and marvel good. Then I ignored them until I finished my burger (warning, 5GB&F suffers from Vanishing Bottom Bun Syndrome.) and when I came back they were not very good at all. It's well known that french fries don't keep, but for five minutes? Really? And I found the decor offputting. Storing your wares in the dining room isn't quaint, or whatever, it's irritating. However, the negative reaction to the mere mention of In-N-Out is nothing short of virulent, green-eyed envy. They've all heard of the awesomeness that is the Holy Grail of burgers--the Double-Double. Some have even sampled the succulent deliciousness of the D-D while passing through CA...on the way to someplace else, of course. Yes, this is a review of Five Guys Burger & Fries, not In-N-Out. I'm bringing up In-N-Out because Five Guys is the closest thing to my aforementioned favorite burger place that I've been able to find up here in the Great Pacific Northwest. Of course, a burger, regular fries and a regular drink set me back more than a ten spot. Ouch. That's steep. Nevertheless, the burger was juicy and loaded with meat. I have to say that the fresh cut fries at Five Guys are actually BETTER than the fries at In-N-Out. They are thicker and cooked longer. No need to order them extra crispy at Five Guys. They have a nice variety of toppings at Five Guys, too. You can get your burger customized to your exact specifications. They even have mushrooms and jalapeños. Sweet. I've never had a burger at Five Guys, so while I was out and about running errands today and found myself hungry and near this outlet, I stopped in and had the little bacon cheeseburger. It's a pretty substantial burger on its own, and I'd probably be surprised at the size of the regular burgers. I was greeted in a friendly way as I walked in the front door. I had to stop for a minute and look over my shoulder as I wasn't sure who they were shouting at, but it was me, and I guessed it was OK that they were shouting at me as I wasn't holding the place up or anything (but seriously I'm having some fun here and it was done in a fun way). The overall store colors of red on white works very well here. Everything is super clean and shiny, which is appreciated, and I was thrilled with the signage. The signage is not up too high and is lettered nicely enough that it was super easy to read and order. Oh and it was not digital signage. I've grown to not like digital signage, although I'm sure business owners must love it. The cashier was very helpful in explaining how to order the extra free toppings and was friendly as well, and when I didn't choose to order a beverage, immediately offered me a cup for water. Sometimes in other places when I choose just water, I often feel like a cheapskate. I wasn't made to feel that way here at Five Guys. I also think the traffic flow here for such a large venue is very well handled and very efficient. I never once felt like I had any problems getting in and out. I didn't order fries (some who know me well might chuckle a little bit at not ordering fries as I've spoken about my love of fried potato products at other places often here on Yelp), which I guess I'm going to have to remedy because I've heard the fries are really great at Five Guys. The lack of fries ordered is evidently what emboldened me to order the bacon on my cheeseburger. What really impressed me was they got my bacon fried totally perfect for me, still a little limp and not crispy. I know it's un-American, but I simply don't like bacon fried crispy. OK, moving on from my bacon preferences, I really enjoyed my burger an awful lot. I don't very often order burgers or fries anywhere anymore, so it was excellent that my treat was so tasty. As I left, someone shouted a friendly good-bye, but I just smiled as I walked out the door and said to myself "oh, that's just the Five Guys way." Minus a half star for not even offering a small order of your over-hyped not so spectacular "Fresh Cut Fries" You have no choice in the amount of fries and so thusly they end up in the trash because after eating about ten or twelve I was so bored with their flavor, texture and boredom I just threw them out, like a half pound of them... in the trash. 1 is the number of Stars subtracted for your own Hype not standing up to your own food's quality. Yes, one star for your utter lack of humility. If your food cannot stand up to your own bragging of quality and value then I consider that bullshit and bullshit doesn't taste as good as you'd think it would. How are you going to picture going to an industrial diner-y barn? Ceilings are high, the whole store decked and checked in red and white, peanuts and lotsa peanuts from the table to the floor. They don't have window treatments but instead they have almost every page of their "awards and ratings" posted at almost every wall and window. Creativity and humility to a degree is lacking. I am about to do the unthinkable. The impossible. I am going to review Five Guys, and I will not compare it to any other restaurant chain, in particular one located in the American Southwest. Five Guys is a pretty damn decent burger. Portions are a good size. I usually get the little bacon cheeseburger - which they abbreviate LBC, much to my delight - and which is not little, but rather a single patty with crisp bacon and melty cheese. Burgers are topped with your choice of probably 12 or 15 different items - as many as you want. The fries....eh, they're always a little more done than I like, but hand-cut and salted well. The cons? It's crowded, if not with people it is maddeningly crowded with tables and chairs. The ambience is cold and lacking, for sure, and I really don't understand how peanut shells on a slick linoleum floor passed any insurance underwriter's inspection. 3 1/2 stars for sure; hand-formed patties, great toppings, and fast service bump it to 4. read more

Ate here for lunch for the first time today. National chain making its first appearance in the Portland area. Why they picked a random strip mall in Beaverton next to a Blockbuster and a Massage Envy is a mystery, but still, there you go. It was hopping as people give it a try. Free self serve peanuts are available at the door. Then get in a line, order at a counter, go find a table, and then go get your food (which is served in a paper sack) when they call your number. Too many tables and it was hard to move around in there. Ambience is pretty bare bones - decorations are large signs with quotes on them about how awesome they are. Food - Fries are hand cut on the premises and the regular size is pretty big. They are fried in peanut oil (yeah, if you have a peanut allergy do not go in this place - you WILL DIE). And are yummy and crunchy. Burger, well they had two choices "regular" or "little." I ordered a regular, and then was asked what from the list of toppings I'd like, toppings are included in the price they included lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, etc.. etc.., fries were extra, and so was a soda. A regular bacon cheeseburger, plus regular size fries, plus medium soda = $10.25 The difference between a regular and a little is the regular has two patties, the little has one. The patties are 1/5 lb size (I asked). The burger I got tasted fresh and been fried up nice and all the toppings I asked for were there and were good eating. My food was good - but the bland cafeteria setting and crowded tables were annoying, and for the meal I got, 10 bucks feels like too much... 7 or 8 bucks would've seemed closer to what I feel it should've cost. But that said the product itself was tasty and if someone suggested it again for lunch, I wouldn't argue too much -but honestly I'd be just as happy going to the McMenamins across the street and probably end up spending the same amount or a little less.
