So funny story, the girlfriend has never been to five guys before. So when she ordered the regular burger I was very impressed. When she realized the scale of her burger I had a good chuckle. But my girlfriend is not one to back down from a challenge. We both demolished our burgers, a large fries and a milkshake. The strawberry milkshake was divine. The burgers were cooked perfectly. Placed an online order for in store pick up. Was right on time for my pick up, saw they were working on the order but had messed it up. Instead of remaking the order they started stripping off what wasn't supposed to be on one of the burgers and just reassembled it. Then put everything in a bag threw it above the fry station and that was that! I waited another five minutes as they were clearly understaffed and over whelmed, took another 5 minutes for them to add my fries to the bag and hand it to me after I inquired about my order. My boyfriend and I ordered burgers this past Sunday night and upon arrival, on the app it said the food was ready, yet had to wait for an extra 20-25 minutes for the order (it wasn't even packed at all). My husband came into this establishment in the middle of the day and his order was denied because he had $100 dollar bill. His order was $25. The manager refused service because she didn't have change. This was a busy time and not having change??? Wow being a manager in multiple places I know that there's a deposit and a safe with registers pre counted, there's absolutely no reason for the customer to be denied when there's obviously a solution. GREAT FOOD. FILTHY RESTAURANT. The last few times I've come to this location it's always the same. So I'm finally leaving an honest review. For starters the food was great like always. Out fast and hot (not including the cold bacon they put on both bacon burgers) and quality was top notch. However when we got there , there was only one table that wasn't being used that was clean. Every other table was FILTHY and dirty. There are GERMS all over just sitting there festering. and we are forced to clean our own table or just make it worse which most people who came in where doing and it was sad and made me disgusted. Several people looked like they were going to stay and decided on leaving. It doesn't matter how good the food is when you feel like you're eating on the inside of a garbage can. THE WORST PART. We ordered at 7:02. Now mind you these tables were alllllll filthy save one. And we left at 7:42. AND NOT ONCE DID THEY COME OUT AND CLEAN ANYTHING. Not the tables. Not the filth and crumbs and shells all over the floor. Not the garbage or food or trash on the tables. Not. Once. Sure they were busy at times but it also slowed down. This isn't rush hour here. It's 7pm. It was obvious the dinner rush was already over and left to rot in the dining hall. So i went around and took pics of all the tables when i very first got there. Was rejected upon setting foot in store at 6:15 pm. My family and I were hoping to get a burger before our movie and saw that 5 Guys closed at 8pm last night, Sunday, Oct 10th. Once we arrived we saw a sign on the door that said closing at 7pm due to staffing. Ok, no problem, it was about 6:15 so we had plenty of time. As we were walking in, our kids were excited and started talking about what they wanted to order and were then interupted by a woman yelling that 5 Guys was closed. We said we saw the sign that said they were closing at 7pm. Then she said they need to stop taking orders at 6pm. I had no idea it took an hour to make a burger. We didn't want to make a scene so we politely left, feeling rejected and confused. As we walked out we revisited the sign and then saw the hand written portion stating, last order at 6pm. We were a party of eight and starving so 5 Guys missed out on a sale that could have helped with labor cost of the employees sitting there at 6:15 waiting for 7pm to come around. I'm a big fan of Five Guys. I love the limited menu concept, the focus on customized food and fanaticism about quality. But this particular location - Cedar Hills and Walker, in Beaverton - really let the brand down Friday evening, November 15. We took our grandson for his first Five Guys experience, and ordered burgers, fries and shakes. No complaints about the burgers and shakes, but the fries were beyond embarrassing. Portion size excellent - as usual - and the 'overflow' fries in the bag were limp, but almost tolerable. The fries in the cup were a total write-off: not hot, limp and soggy. We ate in the shop with our little guy, but tossed our fries. Had it just been the two of us we would have shared our experience with the team on duty. We'll continue to eat at Five Guys and will expect many fine meals in the future. Point of this post is to remind everyone - diners and food handlers - that quality matters in every part of every fast-food order. Ohhhhh... I get it now. So I finally made the loooooooong journey from deep SE PDX to the 'burbs to get a look at the local franchise of the east coast burger chain Five Guys Burger and Fries. For months now I have been reading reviews here that seem to fall into 2 categories: The "It's like In-n-Out and that's good" category, and the "It's not In-n-Out and therefore it sucks" category. Sorry, but I can't join either camp. Let me start by saying: IF IT'S NOT IN-N-OUT IT'S NOT IN-N-OUT. That's a tautology folks, but it sometimes those are so obvious that they need to be pointed out again. This is not In-n-Out because it is something different... it's 5 Guys Burgers and Fries. Yes, the decor has that red/white checkered pattern, the burgers and fries are made fresh by a horde of harried workers rushing around in plain sight of the ordering counter, the menu is simple on paper but can be much more complex when actually ordered, and the burger's, well, they're good. So I guess I can see where people are getting into comparisons. But that's really where it ends. Here, the burgers are more expensive ($10.27 for a burger, small fries, and a medium soda). There are more options on the menu (but as far as I know, no secret off-menu options). The burgers automatically double. They are greasier, the bun is smashed (see photo), and there's way more toppings: grilled mushrooms, relish, bbq sauce, green peppers, A-1 sauce, hot sauce, and jalapenos. They also sell hot dogs. Those are all things that are decidedly not In-n-Out. Plus, you can get cajun fries. Oh, and this franchise is not from California. So really, what you get down to, is that you are comparing a burger place in Portland with a burger place that's not in Portland, and it makes you, me, and baby Jesus cry. Why? Because we can't get In-n-Out here. That's why. So great, it's not as good. Is it better than driving 6 hours south to Redding for In-n-Out (the closest In-n-Out to Oregon, yes, I have checked with the corporate office). Yes. I think I can say that. Even though I HATE driving to Beaverton, it beats driving to Redding for lunch. If I happen to BE in California, then yes, I prefer In-n-Out. If they open an In-n-Out next door to Five Guys Burgers and Fries, well, then, there may be an all out burger battle royale. That said, I did enjoy my burger today. It was delicious as far as fast food burgers go. The meat and bacon were good. The bun was annoyingly smashed and fell apart almost immediately, making it hard/messy to eat. And UNLIKE In-n-Out or Burgerville, they don't give you those little burger wrapper things (that look like cupcake wrappers) to help keep all the goop from getting all over your hands/the table/your shirt. I am not stoked about paying over $5 for it, but that was the option. I took it. The real highlight? The FRIES. Both the cajun fries and the Five Guys Fries are bomb. Fresh cut, fresh cooked, nice and thick, and salted to hell. You get way more than you order. A small is supposed to be this small cup, but when I got my bag, it looked like they had dumped about 3 of those small cups in there. The place was jam packed but the delivery was still quick. The service was friendly and on-point. They definitely run a tight ship. So I can see how this place would remind you of an In-n-Out. Especially with the red/white checkers. In fact, the second I walked in, I thought "Oh, I see what these guys are trying to do." But really, I think it's the east coast's answer to In-n-Out. Similar in some respects, but different. Shall I compare the two? Say one is better than the other? No, I won't. You can do that. Doing so just makes me wish there were an In-n-Out here, and there isn't, and that makes me cry, and... damn it! See, I even did it! ARGH! So kids, I've learned something today: If you go through life comparing everything to the best version of that thing, you are bound to be disappointed. And really, if you can't get the best where you are, then what sense does that make? So go try Five Guys Burgers and Fries. Don't go in expecting In-n-Out. Be surprised by what you can get fast food style (for restaurant prices) in Oregon, and know that you just can't get In-n-Out here. It makes that burger taste oh so much better. I was very impressed by my first visit years ago. However, Portland now offers so much burger quality, that it's difficult to go back to the chains. It's much better than the big brands such as McDonalds, Burger King, Carl's and Wendy's, and even Burgerville. And I'm a little more partial to Five Guys than Little Big Burger. For a fast food joint it's not so bad. Neat and clean. 5 Guys uses peanut oil to fry, and only uses fresh, not frozen meat. All food is prepared for you at the time of order. So it can take 10-15 minutes for your order to be up, but that's how fresh food works. They supply all you can eat peanuts to enjoy while you wait. The food is pretty tasty, and I love all the topping options. I don't do fast food often. The first time I went to 5 Guys was 2010. I made my second trip this last weekend. After many months of forgetfulness that this place existed, I finally made it out to Cedar Hills for some burger action. My best friend and I were somewhat lost at first and made a left turn instead of right on Cedar Hills. Eventually after looking it up online we realized we were closer than we thought. We got there about 9 PM and it was not packed at all. The service was friendly although a little slow since the cashier was multi-tasking between phone orders and the ringing people at the same time. Eventually things were speeding up and I placed my order. I decided to go for the junior bacon burger size and regular fries. It took me a while to find the peanuts since they were not displayed very well. I munched on the salted peanuts and then my order was ready. Even late at night, the place was well staffed so the food came out faster than expected. I was impressed they used fresh sliced jalapenos and surprisingly my burger was intact when I opened up the package. I asked for it to be spicy including the hot sauce and they delivered. It surely beats the Red Robin's supposedly spicy burger that is not spicy at all. The burger was pretty good simply because of the amount of toppings I could choose from. I only ordered a few such as the jalapenos, mustard, hot sauce and grilled onions. I think if they didn't offer all of those toppings, the burger would just be mediocre. The junior burger was enough for me too since the regular burger would have included 2 patties instead of 1. The fries were delicious at first. They definitely give you a generous serving that can easily feed 2 people. So being the nice guy that I am, I shared my fries. Towards the end, the flavor was gone and the consistency wasn't there with the taste for the fries. After a critical visit and photo shoot with Santa for The Tax Deduction, The Wife and I were finally was able to get over here to try the other Five Guys. Have been to the West Linn one a few times which was tasty, but a little cramped. When we arrived at this location we were very surprised to see a nice open space and a easy to read menu as we waited to order. The food was, as usual, very good and the fries just amazing. It was the vibe we got here was so much lighter than the other location. Even the people around us were very friendly and we had several nice conversations, even with the guy in the Ohio State hat (boo!). So if you're really hungry then it's a great... but it was a LOT of meat. The second time I ordered the little bacon cheeseburger, which is just 1 beef patty. The great thing about this place is: 1. All the toppings are FREE! They have grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, different types of sauces and more! 2. There's complimentary peanuts when you enter their restaurant so help yourself! 3. Not all 5 Guys are created alike. [2005] Washington, DC., made me forget what In-n- Out had to do with beef. That burger was so off the chain I almost missed my plane home trying to get that last bite in. Fries - fantastic like 10 star diner in Beverly Hills for ten with each order. Honestly, I hardly ever eat beef, but when I hit PDX soil that's like 65% of my diet. Your local cows are up there with Argentinean beef - f-n tasty. I opted to be a sheep this past weekend to see what all the fuss was about - they also think they're great based on the fact they have all their reviews posted everywhere too. That really had not much to do with this review other than I saw In-And-Out eleventy billion times in other reviews. In my opinion, these burgers are pretty tasty. I love that you can pick 'n' choose the toppings you want without an extra cost. I opted for the classics (ketchup, mustard, mayo) sans tomato + grilled onions. YUM. They also put a lot of meat in their burgers, dear Jesus. I felt like I was in a meat coma after I was done. Granted, the burgers can get a bit soggy but HELLO - sauce + bun + sitting = soggy. If you're so worried, unwrap it immediately or don't get sauce Problem solved. The fries, not so crazy about. They aren't greasy or anything, just OK. That's all I got. Let me start off by saying that this is NOT In-n-Out. Nothing is, and comparing the two is really unfair to Five Guys Burger and Fries. Having said that, this place definitely gives me the fix I've so desperately needed since leaving California, and therefore distancing myself from the beautiful yellow and red establishment that satiated my drinking-induced burger cravings. This may turn other people off, but I like the decor. Peanut shells on the floor? I'm in. I think the "messiness" of this place distracts from the fact that I will, without a doubt, get food all over my face/the table/my clothes. If only I had known about this place when I was still dating I could have saved myself the "does she know she eats like an animal having a seizure" looks I received from so many dates. I was initially put off by how expensive the food seemed in comparison to other burger joints, but you get so much bang for your buck here. You order a single cheeseburger, but get two patties. You can order any amount of toppings without being charged an additional fee, and they don't skimp on them. A small is large, and a large is HUGE. You even get free refills on drinks which some places don't do anymore. I like this place, and I will definitely be back. When I went to oregon to visit, I passed by 5 guys wondering what it was since there were many people in the restaurant and since then I've been dying to try this place. Even californians were raving about 5 Guys. When I came to oregon again and tried this place, it was fantastic! The fries were even great! I got the Cheeseburger with mayo, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, jalapeno peppers, bbq sauce. No need to even think about ordering the large, unless you're splitting it. The burger was juicy, the cheese wasn't as melted as I'd hoped it would be. The bacon tasted funky, and I am in love with bacon. I don't understand the peanuts. There were peanut shells everywhere. The decor looks In N Out-esque. What I can't stand is the huge amount of signs and newspaper clippings boasting how great and "cheap" it is. Why, then, did we spend $21 on 2 burgers, 2 small drinks and 2 regular fries? Seems a bit steep. Kinda wished for Carls Jr. after that. I do not like the fries. I didn't like the regular ones last time I went. They need Whataburger fries or something. So what is a vegetarian doing reviewing a burger place? Yeah, I'm asking myself that too honestly, especially when I walked in the door thinking - OK I'm having fries and calling it a meal. Pretty standard for me at a burger place. BUT: They have a grilled cheese, or grilled veggie sandwich - which is basically the "burger" with any/all the "fixins" without the meat. Surprisingly they call it out on the menu - which is a nice touch. And actually, it was REALLY good - albeit messy. I opted for ALL the veggies, which included sauteed mushrooms, so my sandwich ended up being warm - surprising. Place was PACKED, but the line moves quickly - and somehow we actually ended up getting a seat once our food was ready. The fries - OK, do NOT get a large unless you are a family of 4, or have an appetite for a small country. The small fries are FINE, and quite good. Peanuts are free, throw the shells on the floor, although this has me wondering where is the beer. Seems peanut shells on the floor and beer go pretty well together. Finally, this is weird putting in a review - but the restrooms were really clean and well kept. With as many people plowing through here I expected far worse, but they are really nice and clean. I've returned a few times since my first review. Sadly the quality of food prep has gone down quite a bit. I was especially disappointed that my buns on every occasion have been untoasted, therefore falling apart in sogginess. The fries also have become flacid (soggy, no crunch). I probably will not return to this store again. read more

Food is always excellent. My experience on 12/5 not so much. If you are running 45 minutes or more to fill an order, be honest and tell people that before we place an order!! It took precisely 47 minutes to get my order. That is crazy. I would have never waited if your cashier had been honest about the extensive wait for getting my to go order. read more

Food was okay but I didn't get the extra scoop of fries that five always blesses its customers with. They weren't busy so maybe they just didn't know that the extra scoop of fries is my favorite part. read more

A delicious messy burger is what you will get here. And HUGE amount of fries. Little burger is one patty, a burger is two patties. All the normal toppings are available. The burgers are made fresh and are not dry at all. About $5 for a burger, a couple more for fries,(a small is easily shared by two, a large will feed a family, unless they are college football players). The $2 for a medium coke, though is a bit much. All in all, a great burger joint, or heart attack in a sack. Won't eat it every day, so when I close, I can indulge. read more

Lets be honest here. I don't really like burgers. They just don't do it for me. However the burgers here are pretty darn good. For a newbie the process may be a little daunting. Also don't ask for a small anything, You need to use their terminology.... Portions are pretty large. I got the small bacon cheeseburger and the small fries and was full. It took a while to get my food, so don't come here expecting to get you food fast. Good food takes time. All around the food was great. Oh don't forget they have malt vinegar. read more

5 stars!!! Let me just say that since this covid-19 things all started this is the first time I ate at a restaurant that I completely felt safe and was not worried one iota! It was extremely clean and they had all kinds of safeguards in place such as a lady who cleaned every inch of the walls, hand sanitizer readily available, even tissues to use so that you can have contact free drinks. Connection ready to go when I went into the restroom it was the cleanest restroom I had ever been in and smelled of fresh bleach. All the workers took care to keep their masks on and use proper protocol in preparing and delivering the food. To say I'm impressed is an understatement but more importantly I'm just so thankful that they care enough to do above and beyond. The food also was fantastic with everything very fresh tasting and they even grilled onions and peppers for me to put on my burger. The lady taking our order was super sweet and nice and very patient as we figured out what we wanted to order. just a top-notch experience. My son used to live in Beaverton and I used to visit this location all the time when visiting him and it always has been so good. He moved to Hillsboro and so we went there a few weeks ago and was so disappointed. So much so that I almost didn't give Five Guys another chance. It didn't feel clean and our food was so soggy with oil that we had to replace the buns with our own once we got them home. All I can say is I'm so glad I remembered this location and had such a fantastic experience here. I hope the manager and the crew of the Beaverton store read this and just know that in these uncertain times the extra effort they're putting forth makes all the difference in the world!
