I have visited this location a few times. I acknowledge that their burgers are quite flavorful and they actually provide 2 burgers on the bun - as opposed to the standard in most places of just one. When you order fries they provide an abundance of them. They come in a cup - which varies in size based on the portion size you order. However, regardless of what amount of fries the cup is supposed to hold they overload the cup with these tasty devils so you can count on receiving at least 1/3 - 1/2 portion more than you ordered. The cost of fries is relatively small to them so they have chosen to make a great impression on the customer by giving you so many. I love the taste of the fries and they cook them with skins still on - which I personally always enjoy. They have many, many bags of potatoes on display from their suppliers and as a nice touch they post the name of the farm that provided the potatoes. They provide free peanuts (in the shell) to munch on while waiting for your order which is also a nice customer oriented touch. The only reason I have rated 4 stars vs 5 is the amount of grease involved. The burgers are quite greasy and the fries are loaded with oil. They use peanut oil which is one of the healthier oils but they don't drain them well so even the bags they come in are loaded with oil. So, if you are looking for tasty food Five Guys won't disappoint. However avoid this place if you are in search of healthy meals. I would say going here now and then would be fun but I would not recommend a frequent visit- unless you want to make your cardiologist rich. :) read more

Okay I normally have a wonderful experience at Five Guys however today hopefully it was just an off day. I was in line when the customer ordered lettuce and the cashier asked if he was joking? He even asked why? The cashier laughed and he changed his order. I was next and asked for extra lettuce than stated, "what you said was inappropriate ". The cashier then stated, ""I can't " and walked away. The next person "don't recall her name" berating me and made me feel really uncomfortable. This is not what I'm use to at Five Guys! I've been to Five Guys restaurants in Florida and Maryland. Good burgers and fries. I also liked their milkshakes. This establishment does not deserve to a Five Guys. I received a bacon cheeseburger with mushrooms with burnt bacon and a dried out over done burger. I ate it because I was hungry. By the time I got home, I had really bad food poisoning. I was sicker than a dog for the rest of the day and couldn't eat the next day. This is a terrible restaurant. Stay away!! read more

I have visited dislocation a few times and this was by far the worst experience I have ever been through at a restaurant with a manager running around yelling in her phone at someone on the other end on Facetime that has nothing to do with Work waited over 15 minutes for fries and then when I asked the young lady that was working my burger she goes. Oh couple more minutes and walk away one of the most unprofessional unorganized scenes I have ever witnessed in the restaurant industry. I recommend cleanup. read more

We came in 30 minutes before close and they were not annoyed at all. We actually got "bonus fries" that were extra beyond the cup we ordered. Either that, or they fill the cups REALLY full. I have never had one of their hot dogs before, but I love Five Guys and love hot dogs and was in the area so I dropped in for a quick bite. They were as busy as usual, but the wait seemed a lot longer because the employees kept goofing off and joking with one another. In all honesty, the burgers were laid out on the counter ready to go and they couldn't have assembled them faster but when people are waiting it looks unprofessional to be screwing around. I ordered a cheese dog with mushrooms. Like their burgers, you can get whatever toppings you want on the hot dog (though, unlike a burger, there is a lot less space to hold them. My hot dog was fine, split down the middle and griddled, which allowed it to get a nicer color and texture. However, it wasn't very salty. Usually all beef hot dogs are very salty, so this was a change. In fact, I almost missed the salt and relied on the peanuts (free) to give me that "oh I am dying of thirst but I need another peanut" sensation. The cheese, which was folded American, added nothing. It didn't melt very much and didn't taste like much. The mushrooms were great, but I wish they had put a little salt on them. The roll was excellent and held its shape well. In the end, it was a decent hot dog. Unlike their burgers, which I cannot emulate at home, I can make a good hot dog in my kitchen so it wasn't a great value to me. It tasted under-seasoned, but maybe that is because I just expect everything from a burger place to be really salty. If you are here and don't want burgers (wait, why are you here?) it is an okay option, but stick with what their namesake is and leave the dogs at home. read more

OK, so I'm mostly vegetarian, and I've been entirely done with red meat for probably 20 years or more, so obviously I'm not going to say anything about the burgers here. But lately I've found myself sometimes experiencing a craving for a real milkshake, and I think that four-letter word describes the milkshakes at Five Guys, so that's where I head to to get my fix. And the two Five Guys milkshakes I've had so far have not disappointed. I've had their fries twice, however, from a different location each time, and I have to say I do not at all understand people's love of Five Guys' fries. The first time I had the fries, they tasted like almost nothing other than fryer grease, and the second time I had them, they tasted like absolutely nothing other than fryer grease. Call me weird (it certainly wouldn't be the first time), but I like my french fries to taste like potatoes, and in my admittedly limited experience, the fries at Five Guys don't, except perhaps on very rare occasions (I seem to recall getting one very potato-y tasting fry in that first batch of fries I got from a Five Guys, which is probably why I gave them a second chance). I thought my first experience with the fries to be meh at best, and my second experience "Why would anybody *eat* these things??" bad. Five Guys is extremely generous with the fries - a large fries is a large drink cup filled with fries, and probably weighs close to 2 pounds (largely because of all that fryer grease). But they don't really seem like fries to me; the impression I get is that the point of eating these things is to eat pure fryer grease, and the actual pieces of potato are simply used as a vehicle to transport the fryer grease from the fryer to your mouth. So while I will never order french fries from a Five Guys again, I probably will keep going here for the occasional milkshake. And I have to say, every positive comment I've read about the staff and the customer service rings true. I don't know how they do it, but staff at Five Guys seems to be genuinely happy working there, and they treat their customers accordingly. My interactions with the staff at Five Guys - especially the people working the grills - has always been extremely pleasant. In fact, the first time I had fries there, they were a gift from the guy working the grill - I was driving for DoorDash, picking up someone else's order, and the grill guy just asked me, out of the blue, "You want some fries too?" By the time Five Guys made it up to the Capital Region, it was already a large chain restaurant. But it was after the brand's arrival that this burger seller became much more of a national enterprise. The only reason I mention this is because I've noticed a decline in the deliciousness and quality of its beef. Granted, I'm more sensitive than most. But now I find small hard pieces of cartilage (I hope) in the patties. More importantly, the burgers just don't provide that long lingering beefy flavor on my tongue like they once did. Sigh. Fortunately, I've found the chain's vegetable sandwiches. One of my favorite things about the Five Guys burger has always been its rich delicious bun. And this bizarre concoction of grilled onions, sautéed mushrooms, LTO, sliced jalapeños, mayo and hot sauce is surprisingly good. It's even better since I discovered that they will grill the jalapeños for you too. It's strangely satisfying, especially when combined with the fries. The fries continue to shine. And not only that, they are a ridiculous bargain. A family of four can reasonably share a small order. Assuming you split it evenly, that still comes to 250 calories of french fries per person. I'll occasionally just come in for an afternoon snack and split a small order of fries with the two kids. TL;DR It's quick and delicious. Hands down 5 star- not because of the quality of the food (although it is our families FAVORITE burger place) But because of the kindness we witnessed- A Woman and her young son came in and ordered lunch- when she went to pay she realized she forgot her credit card and didn't have enough cash- Without missing a beat the manager told her not to worry about it when the woman tried to cancel the order- the woman tried to give the cash she had - and the manager refused telling the woman not to worry about it and to have a nice day!! OK Steve N.}}} I DID order the cheeseburger (2 patties) - the one with the cheese between the patties, and you were right - very nice: tender but not squidgy, juicy, and greasy. It was a big burger for a little superhero and this time I didn't try to finish it. In a basically veg-free environment I topped mine with fresh tomato, onion, lettuce and mustard with pickles (NO MAYO NO KETCHUP) to get me a serving of more than just meat and bread. The burger didn't fall apart and I loved every bite. Jag was a copycat but went with the grilled onions instead. Slippery and good but she didn't feel "wowed" - a good burger. AH - the best part was the fries!!! Thick - not those wee skinny pointy little shoestrings that you eat 6 at a time so you get a mouthful - these were dark and crispy on the outside and perfectly squishy inside, hot and fresh and not too salty, with lots of little overcooked ones to savor between eating big ones. We ordered a regular and it was ALOT of fries, but we ate them all. Tres yum. I went through about 10 napkins. I don't generally go for paper products going into landfill (FG is all about disposables) and though it may be part of the experience, I would really have liked a paper plate instead of paper bags and napkins and burger foil to eat off of. Rarely disappointed. Everything is always fresh. "Not A Freezer In The Place", according to one of their in-store signs. I always order online and pickup at their Guilderland location. The online ordering is very cool. Options aplenty. There are loads of toppings from which to choose, AND you can select 'light', 'normal', or 'heavy-on-the-' for each item on your burger. Once you arrive and tell them you've got a web order, they'll shout it down to the employees that are preparing food, and your order is usually ready within a couple of minutes. I much prefer their method of "get it started so that it's close to done when the customer arrives, but don't COMPLETELY finish preparing it until they get here" vs. other places that opt for the "prepare everything as soon as the online order comes in and then let it sit and get cold and gross" method. Their burgers are delicious, but the shining star of their menu (at least for me) is their fries, particularly their Cajun fries. I give them a hearty three stars with promise on the basis of providing a fairly delicious burger and a copious quantity of fries for a reasonable price in a reasonable amount of time. To compare them to In-and-Out Burger, as seems to be the popular thing for those of us visiting from California, they seem a little less assembly-line but not quite so frantic about the quality-control. I did have to wait for a while, which I hope simply means they were cooking my burger fresh. Some down marks for harsh flouro lighting and a cold (literally) eating area. I'll withhold the fourth star until another visit verifies it, but it's definitely well worth bypassing any of the more well-known fast food places and driving up to this. read more

First time eating at five guys in a very long time. The fries were so soggy, that we basically ate just the ones on top, and that was it. I noticed that your fries are staged in baskets over the fryers. I'm guessing they got too thawed. We got a medium at $4.19. I was tempted to ask for a refund, but with hostilities being rampant these days in customer service, I decided against it. My dogs will love the fries, so they won't go to waste. The burgers were incredible! I think the price is a little steep, but what can you do? The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was very clean. As food service workers, my husband and I take into consideration the challenging aspects COVID has presented to businesses like this. Kudos to the staff for dealing with the masks for their entire shifts, and for keeping things clean and pleasant. At $25, two epic burgers, one very disappointing order of fries and one fountain soda wasn't a great value. But we will try again someday read more

So...Five Guys. We finally meet. There's been a lot of hype. Both by my friends at home and by my friends here in Albany (although less so by my friends at home since we have no shortage of awesome burgers, including the unicorn-like Burgerville). But in Albany, cheap, good food is hard to come by. So yeah, I let myself get all hyped up. "THE FOOD IS JUST SOOOOO GOOD." "THERE ARE LIKE A BILLION TOPPINGS YOU CAN HAVE!!!" etc., etc. But when it came down to it, Five Guys was really only burgers and fries. And dogs, if you like tubesteak. I think their thing is that they do everything freshly made, but it's incredibly no-frills. A no-frills burger has a lot of potential. Case-in-point, In-N-Out. Perfect. Five Guys sadly fails at what In-N-Out is absolutely stellar at: the unique factor. True, you can get all your toppings free, but really none of the toppings were really special. You can get: mayo, relish, onions, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled or raw onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, A-1 sauce, barbecue sauce, and hot sauce. Honestly, the only thing on there that jumps out as me as even remotely non-standard is the mushrooms. They basically fill up their menu with a bunch of condiments that should be in squirt bottles next to the soda fountain. There's no denying that a small burger and fries here will feed you for two days straight, and that it's a helluva lot cheaper than 99.9 percent of the other options around. But that's comparing it to someplace like TGIFriday, Ruby Tuesday, or deJohn's, which is probably unfair to those places because Five Guys is really closer to a Wendy's or Burger King...they just don't use frozen beef. Actually, what would take this place from three stars to four in my book is if they offered freshly made milkshakes, too. It seems incredibly anticlimactic to me to take the time to serve fresh, to-made burgers and fries, and then throw a cup of pop at you. Food for thought. Five guys is the second best fast food burger you'll get (first is In-and-Out burger of course). I've always had mine made the way I asked it for. Never any mistakes. I like this establishment in Albany especially because it's right next to a TCBY dessert shop. It's owned by the same person so you can get something from either place and eat on either premise. So I'm a fan of Five Guys, but there's this fucking guy who works here who is quite possibly one of the weirdest dudes I've encountered. Understand that I used to work in Schenectady, so for someone OUTSIDE of Schenectady to be labelled by me as "one of the weirdest dudes I've encountered," that says a lot. The burgers? Great. I really like them. They're spot on, but the fries are absolutely fantastic. Five Guys also has those modern miracle soda machines that has combinations of soda that you've never even conceived of ("Kiwi tomato coconut Diet Sprite? What the hell is that even...?! Well, absolutely, why not!"). Now, as for the aforementioned weird dude who works here... He's always yelling. And not the standard yelling that occurs at Five Guys, where its employees yell out the number of people walking up to the door. No, this guy yells all sorts of random and weird shit. Randomly he will yell out a high-pitched celebratory "OOOWWWW!" for no observable reason. He also enforces laws from what I suspect is the Five Guys Penal Code. Don't attempt to walk up to the counter to get your order when they call out your number. If you do, this dude will call you out for violating section 301(b) for not allowing him to bring the food to your table. You dare to get your own ketchup? Violation of section 229(b)(iv), ketchup will be provided by the weird dude. I guess he at least has some personality, though. Interesting place. read more

My favorite hamburgers in the Capital District. Solidly built every time, plenty of variety for toppings, you can make something new every time you visit. But the fries, that really sets this place apart. Little paper cup, overflowing into a big old paper bag. If you take the time to look at them before you stuff your face, you can see the skin on the outside and the knife marks where someone pulled out any blemishes before cooking. Five guys is the best fast food burger I've ever had (my friends on the west coast rave about in-n-out burger... but I've never been)... the burgers are made to order for you... fresh... yum. Moreover, the fries are ridiculously addictive, maybe even better than the burgers. The chain has a simplistic retro look to the interior, and there is generally ample seating for many. The menu is pretty simple, with the primary diversity in burger toppings. Some people like the hotdogs, but I was not impressed, and would recommend sticking to the burgers. Unfortunately, for vegetarians (e.g. my wife), the "veggie" option is simply a burger-less sandwich with toppings... no gardenburger option. I am a big fan of the in-shell peanuts they provide to customers free of charge (I guess to hammer home that they cook everything in "healthy" peanut oil). This is just another nice touch on an already great fast-food experience. If you have a hankering for burgers and fries... there's no need to go anywhere else... it's that good. Why four stars? Well, the food is pretty simple (just burgers and fries). But most importantly, the food is simply AWFUL for your body. Yeah, you don't expect burgers and fries to be good for you, but a "regular" bacon cheese burger (which is a double-patty burger) and a half order of large fries is about an entire days worth of calories, and is over 100g of fat (50% more than a daily recommended intake). I was really craving a good quick burger so hubby and I decided to go to Five Guys in Guilderland. We got there at just the right time as the line got really long while we were waiting for our food. We sat at a table that was close to the grill (which was a bad idea). We watched the guy on the grill put cheese on almost all of the burgers and take them off the grill and they weren't even melted. The slice of cheese maybe spent a second on the grill and it was not melted at all. I'm sorry but one of my pet peeves is a cheeseburger or even grilled cheese where it is supposed to be melted and it's not even close, I mean how hard is it to melt cheese? It's not rocket science. So now I'm practically gagging with thinking about a cheeseburger with not melty cheese and having to actually eat it as well as ways to start it apart and stick it in the microwave when I get home without creating a huge mess... I decide to nicely approach the counter and give my observations to the guy who is taking orders and ask that order number such and such to please melt the cheese on the burgers. I feel like a jerk asking but I am looking around at all the other patrons in the restaurant eating cheeseburgers without the cheese melted and I am so grossed out that I just wanted to request that my cheese be melted. We are still sitting at the table waiting for our order and I see the guy at the counter tell the guy on the grill to melt the cheese on the burger for my order (+1 star). The guy on the grill is still not melting the cheese on any of the orders. Our order is up and keep in mind none of the cheese was melted. I am praying that by the time I get home, the cheese will be somewhat melted. Hubby explains heat transfer and continues to look at me like I'm weird because I'm concerned about melty cheese. I get home and the cheese is somewhat melted not completely cold but not completely melted. The food was okay but it probably would've been better if I didn't see all the un-melted cheese and just had the end result without knowing a thing. I must admit my opinion of Five Guys has changed over the years. I like my burgers cooked medium rare and I tend to shy away from places that refuse to give me a burger cooked as I like it. Five Guys cooks their burgers well done and that is it. However, I have found that their burgers are quite good even cooked that way. Obviously the cooking doneness is not the only way to adjust a burgers taste. The servings are huge - order a burger and you get a double as the standard. You can get a single but you need to order it that way. The fries are good - I'm not a fan of the skin-on, as they make it, but they are still tasty. But they give you way too many fries. I ordered a 'regular' fries and they filled a cup with fries, put that into the bag and then dumped an equal amount of fries on top. If you go with a freind you should plan to split one order of fries and have some left over. The prices are OK considering the large amount of toppings that are included and the portion size. A cheese burger (2 patties), regular fries and regular soda came to $11.20 at this location. More than at some other fast food chains but less than you would spend at TGIFridays or similar places. read more

Being born and raised in Southern California, I have to say comparing In-And-Out to Five Guys is like apples and oranges. If you're a burger fan, they're just completely different beasts (as evidenced by the fact that FG restaurants are now popping up in California). But my personal preference? FIVE GUYS WITHOUT A DOUBT! I swear when I first moved nearby, I was going to Five Guys like 3-4 times a week. I typically order one or two single burgers (little burgers) since their standard burger has the same size bun and amount of condiments except twice the beef. They have a great selection of toppings, although indecisive people may have a hard time and get a gross combination.... Their spicy cajun fries are fantastic. Mouth wateringly aromatic with a decent kick that won't cause you to tear up. A regular (massive) serving could easily be shared among 3 people. Not impressed! Just another burger joint with a over priced Ala Carter burger menu. Me and wifey ate @ the Glenmont location on a whim a year and a half ago due to other people's opinion of "just try it" So last week was our 2nd visit only because our daughter had a school fundraiser. I took a pass on there food and preferred to eat Boston Market, yum All the food ordered was to go and paid for separately by everyone is my house who visited and wanted to support the school. The fries portion was cheap for the price and Very SALTY McD's is better hands down! Most of the people who ate the food said "it is not all that and had better" and felt ripped off because of the food price. BK is cheaper! The burgers were tender but lacked taste very much, bacon had an over cooked taste also, buns tasted stale while other buns were hard and flaky. The only thing that my kids enjoyed was the shakes which surprised me because they love fries but did not like the ones from 5 guys, McD's shakes are better! Will not waste 5 cents @ 5 guys again! Advice to 5 guys, change your menu, come down on the prices, add more flavor and meat to burgers and stop being cheap on those skinny ass and maybe just maybe I will give you another chance on my taste buds, until then my money is good @ BK or McD's. My second Five Guys experience... The fries are good and the burgers are good enough but I have complaints. First the fries. I order the smallest size they have and it's still way too many. I end up throwing out at least twice as many as I eat. It's such a waste. The sacks of potatoes used as decoration are already a slap in the face to the people who go hungry in this country... and then to throw out so much on top of that...? YEAH YEAH ok, my bleeding heart digression is over. And yes, I'm fairly certain they use those potatoes and simply store them in the dining room to add "atmosphere". Whatever, just offer a smaller size fries! My second complaint is about how they wrap up your burger. They insist on smooshing it down completely flattening the bun. Please don't do this. Always a great burger and fresh fries! Snack on some peanuts! They have a dial up selection coke machine

So I've eaten at five guys in other locations and it's always great burger. Lots of choices in terms of toppings (all free) so you can go wild. Good fries too. i recommend the cajun fries rather than the regular ones. Be warned: if you have a peanut allergy, don't come anywhere near here. Besides the fact that they use peanut oil, they have open bulk boxes of peanuts to snack on while you're waiting for your food (all free), which is a bonus when you're hungry and not allergic to nuts. Food does take a bit to get, but it's good. This ain't a five-star restaurant, so don't expect that. But if you want good burgers and fries, this is your place. I don't have words to describe the smile I had on my face walking into this place. First of all, the staff are bat-$#!t crazy (which to be clear, is the BEST part of the experience). Immediately upon entering people were screaming out who know's what, but all I knew is these people were nuts and I loved it. The menu is simple which I love because I have serious decision paralysis when there's too many choices. The food is inexpensive which is always a bonus. The burger was one of if not the very best I've ever had. Period. The fries were outstanding and I almost couldn't stop myself from eating them. Everything I hoped for and more. read more

Not a freezer in the place! Been here so many times and never did a review and never had a complaint. From the peanuts, to the great soda machine. I love that seasoned French fries. They fill the bag with 2 extra scoops of Fries. Load the burgers with free toppings. With or without the bun. Either way it's not a bad deal. The 4 of us had lunch for 42.33. Not bad. read more
