Start off by saying "BLACK OWNED" amazing experience. My bestie had a surprise bday party and an surprise engagement here. Our party was a success. Thanks to Tashara and Amy I cant remember the other names but 2 young guys were so attentive. The spot was so nice and innovative. And to add one of the owners came and greeted the bride and to be. I had the bbq salmon salad, came out late as hell but when I tell you that salad was bomb asf!!!! After the dinner we went to the next room "Velvet Room" we had complementary champagne and a hookah !!! But the dj might as well just turned off the music cause he just kept talking and talking and talking and talking. Couldn't get my boogie on like I wanted to cause of his sidebars on the mic. Hosted my birthday dinner there on a Friday night. Definitely a vibe! Cocktails were great, music was A1, wait staff extremely attentive my group had an entire section to ourselves (they are definitely following social distancing standards). Food was great! Not my first visit for dinner so I expected nothing less. I believe we had one of everything on the appetizer menu - Light bites are a must when indulging in cocktails! The wings with curry are amazing ordered some to go. The jerk salmon was more of a blackened salmon to us all but this is coming from a group of people who are from the islands and know jerk - it was tasty non the less. I really just can't say enough good things about 5 Central!! There are several different sections that all seem to have different themes and vibes. There are several bars, a cigar lounge, restaurant and a hookah room. I celebrated my birthday here with a couple of friends and we were allowed to celebrate in a private area which was amazing! Its very beautiful and eclectic. Our waitress was great and the food was also good. On my second visit it was during Sunday brunch and the vibe was everything! The stuffed french toast is a must! This is a very nice upscale place. 5 different themed areas under one roof. It's black owned. It's the largest restaurant/venue in Houston at a whopping 17,000 sqft! My friends and I go there in Friday's (get there around 9, cuz they close early at 12am) and their Sunday brunch is yummy. I highly suggest a reservation!! Always great vibes and good service! I'm not enthused about the $20 valet parking, it's kinda pricey. Overall a lit spot!! read more

I've been to this establishment several times for events and the casual night outings, typically on a Friday. The food never disappoints even tho the cost is on the higher end and so are the drinks. Which is fine. But the last few times the bartender upstairs, the brown skin girl with the dreads has solely ruined the entire experience there not once but twice for my colleges, friends, partner and I. The first time I let it go but when we went back this past weekend that was enough. Rude, as if we were bothering her to help us with drinks, ordering food and just to do her job in general. While she casually enjoyed hanging out with her friends. It was a obstacle to even close out terrible service of a bill. 10/10 Would not recommend upstairs, stick to the lower level! read more

I'm so pleased with this establishment! I've been here three times now and the food is only superseded by the options for experiences under one roof! I usually like to try something new each time, but the way the curry chicken tasted... woooo!! It was consistent between visits too. I replaced the mashed potatoes with the Mac and cheese the second time cause I ate both the first time and was past full. Either way, a must stop if you are in Houston and want good food, good service and a great ambiance. Crooks! I went here tonight and when it was time to pay the bill i gave them 2 one hundred dollar bills to settle my $122 bill. They came back and said one of the bills was fake...and just left! Ignored me for the next few minutes as i asked questions and was baffled, asking them to at least show me the fake bill. They actually gave me my real bill back! I called the cops because that was a lie and they could not produce the "fake" bill i supposedly gave them. Never once did they ask me to settle my bill but gave me the real bill back, very suspect. I created such a stink as i was getting my car from valet they came out with a fake bill in a plastic baggy thirty minutes later... i settled the bill... but beware, this is a scam they run! Probably circulating the same fake bill to scam customers . So saddened by this situation. I will take these photos to my reputable bank and they will validate that this is a bill i never received . I tried the Bistro. The food was good but it's a little pricey. I had children with me, I don't recommend it. The space isn't really conducive for kids. There is no kids menu. I had one drink, the Trick Daddy. It was pretty but not very strong. The manager of the establishment was nice but his staff could use an attitude adjustment, maybe it was a long night for them. I don't know but the host that greeted us was a little rude and unfriendly. The manager reset the tone. read more

I came to support Black Restaurant Week and they absolutely missed the mark in many ways. We arrived and the restaurant is in a residential area. There was no parking along the street which forced us to valet park for $10. I planned to tour the whole facility. We get to the front door to and saw the sign on the door that required masks to enter, so of course we complied. I was very grateful that they had set those measures in place due to all the cases rising in Houston. We found a table and sat down. We looked around and it was pretty nice. We waited and waited for someone to come and greet us but that didn't happen. I eventually flagged down a short, blonde lady and asked for a some assistance. She told me that she would send a server to our table. A few minutes later someone came to our table. I had to ask her to bring us menus. She came back with water and menus but I noticed that she did not bring out the BRW Menus. I told her that we would like the BRW menus and she said that she would be back with them. A few minutes passed and she came back to the table saying that they had to print more because they ran out. I said ok! In the meantime we looked over the menus and I was helping my daughter decide what to get. She came back a few minutes later and said that they ran out of paper and I could go online to look at the menus. Gee Whiz! She did not tell us where to go and look. I knew to go to houbrw to look because I had previously been on the site researching restaurants. I ordered a Lemon Drop Martini and she said that it would be a while because the bar was backed up. She left and came back to take our order and I told her that we would like a tour of the facility. She said that she would tell a higher up and someone would come to the table. We waited a while and she finally brought my drink. We saw others entering the restaurant without masks and I felt that was unsafe. Why have a sign on the door if you are not enforcing it. The server and waitress comes to the table with some of our food and she then apologizes that our food is not coming out in order and sporadically. One of the appetizers which was the Collard and Artichoke dip, My boyfriends entree, which was the Fried Chicken dish, that they sat in front of my daughter. I had to tell them that was his dish. My Salmon came out as well. We were missing another appetizer and my daughters fried chicken with Crawfish Rice, and Fries. None of the food that was brought out was hot only a little warm. The salmon was overcooked and presented poorIy. I was a bit upset. Our waitress disappeared so I caught one of the servers to tell him about our food and I sent back the dip and my Salmon. My boyfriend was hungry and decided to keep his lukewarm Chicken and bland Collard Greens. My daughter's food finally came out with none of the sides that she requested. Her chicken was piping hot like Fried Chicken is supposed to be. My Salmon came as well and it was hot this time but still overcooked and the dish was totally lacking from what I saw on the picture and how it's supposed to be made. I just kept it at that point. The Crispy Asian Shrimp was hot and tasty. The dip was dry and nasty. I'm sure that they put it in the microwave. Our waitress was still no where to be found so I flagged down the same server to tell him about the sides. He was about to take the whole plate back and I stopped him. I told him to just bring out the sides that she requested. Our waitress finally shows up to see how we were doing. REALLY??? I asked her what was going on with the tour that I requested and she said that she forgot and would tell someone. OOOKKK..... A little bit later a guy comes to our table asking did we request to tour. I told him yes, a long time ago. We were eating and we would do the tour after we were done. The waitress came over and I told her that we needed to go containers. She hurried off and came back with one styrofoam container. I told her that I needed another one. I asked her where are the plastic containers that are divided and she said that they ran out. So we had to use the styrofoam containers with no dividers for the food. Fast forward... My boyfriend paid and was waiting for his card. The owner came to the table to take us on the tour. That was the highlight of the night. Everything else had failed. read more

I was thrilled when my friend said, "Let's go to Upper Kirby Bistro, as it has been on my places of "need to experience." The ambience was beautiful. Waitstaff were helpful. The gumbo my friend and I shared was great! But..... The Jerk Salmon Caesar was less than promising, hoped for better. I set aside the salmon to show the horrible pieces of inedible lettuce that was full off large white and brown pieces. When my waitress showed her manager, her manager said she would show the chef. The manager didn't follow up with feedback but left it on the waitress to tell me they would take off 25%...off the salad. The unfortunate part was that it wasn't worth the 75% I was left to pay. Good management usually follows up after an unpleasant experience..noted and will most likely not come back. read more

I try to get a cigar a couple times a month. Particularly when out of town, so I've seen my fair share of cigar bars in the US. I live in Houston and always thought we had weak and small cigar bars since Downing Street closed. Me and a friend decided to try Five Central. BLACK OWNED which is fantastic! In the heart of River Oaks which is great. The inside and levels are much bigger than you think, looking from the outside. Get in and it's different rooms...cigar, lounge, wine bar and restaurant. The setup is off the charts good. Good vibes with grown folks socializing. Hmmm..did I mention it was BLACK OWNED. We sit in the cigar lounge. Place is laid out nicely. Glad we did not go on a Fri or Saturday cause I am sure this place gets plenty of attendance. The server/bartender was outstanding. Her name was Stephanie and she was on top of her game! We didn't realize we could order food. So we had cigars and drinks, now solid food is on the way to us in the cigar lounge. Fried chicken, macaroni, collard greens, etc. All was really good! The only downside is parking can be a pain since I don't do valet. Oh yea, did I mention it was BLACK OWNED. If you don't check this place out, your missing out. The food here was terrible. Overpriced. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. The shrimp appetizer claimed to be "Korean style" gochujang. The thing came out and was generic shrimp that was probably microwaved. And it cost almost $30! Everything we ordered was just off. Never going back for food. first i was charged my tab fee 107 dollars then i get a new charge for 84 dollars i call the restaurant they put me on the phone with a "manager" her excuse was we only see one transaction of 107 dollars and sometimes the system charges a fee ... that does not make sense. how do you charge me a fee of 84 and tell me that it only happens to some people and it should drop off 3-5 days but she doesn't see anything on her end. and if it doesn't drop off then despite it with your bank.. terrible management and liars. no one is charging a random fee of 84 dollars. they are using your cards after making you have an open tab with a card on file. don't trust them. read more
