I had pleasant interactions with both the cashier and with the sole gentleman customer service representative at Ocean State Job Lot on this visit. It was early afternoon on a work day, so the patrons were light, yet there were several stations open (3-4) and lines were 0-1 person deep. It was a whole different story, however, at the Customer Service desk. The line numbered 3, so I decided to make my purchases first, then check back in for my exchange. It was a different line up of customers by then, but I was #4 in queue. Poor Brian was the only rep behind the desk, and he also had to multitask helping out the other cashiers with their issues. I think I spotted the manager mulling about, and thought that it would be really nice if he were to jump on in to help thin out our line since the cashiers weren't trained for the task even though by then they were pretty free of customers. But nope. But Brian was personable, apologizing for the wait and thanking us for our patience. 4 stars for Brian and the gal who rang me up. 3 stars for the store on this January 2019 visit.

I purchased a Copa beach chair last June. I put it away in September and pulled it back out of…read morestorage last month. I only used it for a couple of hours a couple days a week. I sat in it today and the bottom ripped open. I only weigh 130 lbs and no one else used it. There's also a hole in the storage compartment on the bottom. I've always purchased my beach chairs from job lot and find myself having to replace them in a couple of years, but this is ridiculous! I'm done with Job Lot and all the junk they sell. I paid $40 for a chair I used for 5 months. I am beyond angry!

What I don't really like is when store's use the word "dollar" in their name, but DON'T sell everything in the store for one dollar or less. For instance, "Family Dollar" (which, ironically, is RIGHT next door to this store) doesn't sell everything for a dollar, and previous stores I used to go to (Dollar Plus in Dedham, Dollar Plus in Walpole, both of which have closed). Anyway, this store isn't a dollar store, but thankfully didn't call themselves it. I had to do a double-take to realize the actual name of the store. It's really called "Super Discount Store". In the past, driving by, and until today I thought it said "Super Dollar Store". Anyway, this store is great. It has some of the best discounts around and a great stock of everything. I have one major complaint. The smell of the store. When walking into anywhere, it should smell great, or at least passable. I didn't notice if they sold any air fresheners, but if they do they should spray some around, and if not, management should walk next door to Family Dollar and buy one for the store, the Febreze "spring" edition would be nice. Anyhow, this stores best variety is clothing. They have good clothing at reasonable prices, and an extra large selection of "Boston" wear, and summer sandals. Other than that, all of the departments are mostly pretty good. The storage and container department was a bit overpriced, but other than that, everything from medical to toys to office supplies was all priced well and had a good, decent inventory. The lady working was friendly, kind, seemed to be working hard to keep the store clean (good employee!). Overall, this is a good discount store that I will be coming back to and purchasing more from. 4 stars.

Family Dollar can be such a great store when you combine their low prices with coupons and store…read morepromotions. While this particular location may not be the most appealing from the exterior (way down in the ditches of East Dedham), it serves a purpose and need for the area. I really like it since it's the only one in the area... I would have to drive into Boston to find another one if I desired. Anyway, the Dedham location sits along the east side of town on Bussey Street. The store is located on Bussey, but is in a space situated below street level, with a ramp leading down. Whenever I tell people about the store, I call it "the basement store". Yet, don't be scared to stop by. The store itself doesn't draw an ugly clientele, and there really aren't too many people throughout the store at any given time. While it might not always be the most organized or clean, it's good enough for a cheap, discount store. This store is large for a store of this type, with thirty two aisles precisely, and has a large section of everything from seasonal items, to food, to clothing (not the best thing to buy here, but they still have it), to cleaning, to storage, and so on and so on. Prices are consistently reasonable, and it is always a better idea to stop here instead of CVS down the street if you're looking for a better deal on essentially anything. Make sure before you come here to sign up for the rewards on their website and clip coupons to your account, then when you go to checkout you put in your phone number and the savings all get taken off. While the e-coupons don't work at other places, Family Dollar is one place that all the coupons have just worked. Staff are relatively quiet, but friendly typically. All in all, it's a good discount store, and the only one in the area. 5 stars.

The store is disorganized,…read morethey are very all over the place and things seem to be left in piles waiting for someone to come put things away in isles. 2. They are short staffed, there's always a long line. 3. Customer service from this ONE lady was terrible, she was rude, not pleasant at all. We purchased a good amount of items and after she scanned them all she looked at us sort of dismissing us. We asked about bags and she said "you're supposed to pay for them...5 cents" and we said, "ok, we will.." she put most of the heavy things in a brown paper bag and proceeded to move the bag closer to us letting us know we don't have to pay, we can go ahead and leave. Very distasteful, she never offered us bags to begin with, how is one to assume the bags are available only if you are paying for them? Why did she assume we were going to carry all of the items by hand to the vehicle? She could have at the very least offered bags given the amount of items we had on the counter. Because of people like her, companies like Family Dollar lose customers.

Worst experience ever with the cashier this afternoon. We've been customers of this store for years…read moreand have never been treated as carelessly as we were today. Don't get me wrong, the salesman was very helpful pulling sizes and giving great advice. The tailor was also knowledgeable and did a good and was friendly. Things however went quickly south when we got to the cashier to pay. To say that the young woman at the register was rude as an understatement. There was not only a lack of basic retail service skills, but the young woman's attitude was borderline hostile. Basic questions about the breakdown of the charges and any discounts we might be able to take advantage of were met with rolled eyes, huffing, and puffing...at one point she literally walked away and starting ringing up another customer! I've worked retail and know it's a tough job, but this is NOT who you behave with customers, especially when we were nothing but courteous. K&G, do better with vetting, hiring, and training your staff! This was absolutely ridiculous. I'm angry that I had to interact with this person and your company should be ashamed to employ someone like that.

While waiting, I used the restroom, and there was literal feces on the floor. It was absolutely disgusting. What made it even worse was that the store had only been open for about 30 minutes, so it's concerning that the restroom was already in that condition. I understand accidents happen, but there should have been staff available, and the restroom should have been checked and cleaned promptly. Some of the good destinations of this plaza are -- Tuesday Morning -- Hallmark -- Planet Fittness -- Star Market -- Domino's -- Men's Wearhouse -- Payless and at least 10 more shops. Everything else you need is somewhere around this section of the highway. This specific plaza I use mostly as a cut through to get onto the highway or cut over towards Best Buy, since it's so much faster without dealing with the highway traffic. Either the Dedham Mall or Legacy Place has mostly every other shop you would need.... the rest of the average chain retail stores are here, in this two sided plaza (one side Providence Highway and one side Washington Street). Lots of parking and the many stop signs and crosswalks throughout the parking lot help keep people going slow and cautious. Average plaza.... nothing really all that great to drive out of your way for though. 3 stars.
