I purchased a Copa beach chair last June. I put it away in September and pulled it back out of storage last month. I only used it for a couple of hours a couple days a week. I sat in it today and the bottom ripped open. I only weigh 130 lbs and no one else used it. There's also a hole in the storage compartment on the bottom. I've always purchased my beach chairs from job lot and find myself having to replace them in a couple of years, but this is ridiculous! I'm done with Job Lot and all the junk they sell. Side comment about Yelp - I hate that they now limit the editing of published reviews to 30 days or so. I noticed this in January 2019. End rant, but continued hatred of this change... I had pleasant interactions with both the cashier and with the sole gentleman customer service representative at Ocean State Job Lot on this visit. It was early afternoon on a work day, so the patrons were light, yet there were several stations open (3-4) and lines were 0-1 person deep. It was a whole different story, however, at the Customer Service desk. The line numbered 3, so I decided to make my purchases first, then check back in for my exchange. It was a different line up of customers by then, but I was #4 in queue. Poor Brian was the only rep behind the desk, and he also had to multitask helping out the other cashiers with their issues. I think I spotted the manager mulling about, and thought that it would be really nice if he were to jump on in to help thin out our line since the cashiers weren't trained for the task even though by then they were pretty free of customers. But nope. But Brian was personable, apologizing for the wait and thanking us for our patience. 4 stars for Brian and the gal who rang me up. 3 stars for the store on this January 2019 visit. read more

Good prices but some foods are close to expiration. We bought some limited edition Bonne Maman preserves which were fairly priced (but actually not lower than regular stores) but the expiration or best by date was the same month of purchase. Not a huge deal obviously but may be an issue if you want to give as gifts. Overall the store is generally organized but a slight bit messy, the smell is usually of dirt or pesticides which is I guess may be a bit much to ask of a store of this kind to improve upon. We still love coming here because it's a bit of a treasure hunt and the staff is really nice. Def not a pretentious place. Oh their sales where you get store credit for a purchase is great -- we got a waffle iron for $120 but got $120 to spend in store, score! read more

Now that grocery stores have gone nuts with prices, this is a great place for lots of canned foods, pasta, everything but meat! Paper foods , hair care, it's a one stop shop great place! I love the new set up! Love the face creams I'd get at other stores are cheaper here! Shampoo variety! Some foods you can't find at grocery store! Cheap, cheap, cheap stuff. You name it glasses, sunglasses, pastas, sauces, detergents, everything for your backyard, basically a lot of dry goods. They have a lot of inexpensive bathroom products that will probably cost you an arm and a foot from Bed Bath & Beyond. I like going here because you do get some deals like potato chips but just make sure they're not expired the following week. Check it out! I got some pretty cool sunglasses. read more

This review is basically on Paul, an employee @ the Service Desk. Two days ago, I bought several boxes of tea and Paul checked me out at the register. When I got home, I looked at my receipt and observed that on one of the teas, Paul keyed in the wrong code and he charged me $14 for an item I didn't purchase. I called the store and a nice lady, Debbie, recommended that I return to the store and "we'll take care of it", she said. Today, I returned to the store and, as luck would have it, Paul was at the Service Desk. I showed him my receipt, explained that he charged me $14 for an item I never purchased and explained that I called the store and Debbie advised me to return for a credit. He asked me when I called the store. "Yesterday", I told him. "Does it make a difference when I called the store?" I asked. "Actually, it does", he responded. Then, he called for Barry to come to the Service area. Paul, then, walked away from the Service area without saying a word. Barry, the manager, soon came over with Paul. They spoke for a minute and then Barry said he would credit me the $14. Barry then left and I said to Paul, "you know if I made a mistake with a customer and made them drive a half hour out of their way to come back to the store, the least I would do is apologize for the mistake and inconvenience". His response was, "that's cool." Paul never bothered to apologize and I wonder if he knows what the word Service means. It's a good thing he's not my employee because I would never allow an employee to treat a customer with such rudeness. I have been shopping here for years. Some great bargains for sure but the eat for free thing is highly suspicious. Yet again, today i tried to use a Crazy Card but was told it was never "activated". Probably half the time I have tried to use one of these I am told there is no value or it is not a valid card or , today, it was "never activated". I have been suspicious and annoyed in the past but something is really wrong here. When I raised my concern with a supervisor, she asked if I had the receipt (from a month or so ago!). No , I guess I foolishly threw it away. I was starting to keep them in a box because something was awfully fishy, but did not have this one. Tomorrow I file a formal complaint with State Attorney General. Someone needs to investigate. It cannot be only me. Beware!! Keep receipts!!! Fight back!!! read more

I'm waiting in one of the two lines open to check out and figured I'd write my complaint. I used to love this place but the decision of mgmt to redesign sucks. Granted I was very used to the old way and knew exactly where to go. Now they've got different items in multiple sections. The men's and women's clothes are all over the place as is the kitchen stuff and other random items. I love this new OSJL (for decades it was a Toys R Us) b/c it is the biggest one I have ever been to, so therefore assuming they have more stuff... I got lots of useful, quality household items. People's carts were loaded up here! They have really good brands (as well as some unknowns...) for food (brand names and many organic items!!!!) , housewares etc. Know what you want and go hunt for it here. It is clean and does not feel like a "warehouse" as other OSJL's feel. read more

Meh. I remember going to a Job Lot for the first time in Attleboro when I first moved up here 8 years ago and thinking it was the coolest thing. Down in Virginia we don't have Job Lots but instead we have Big Lots. That first Job Lot experience was awesome - found so many great things. I hadn't been to one since. So the other day I went to this one in Dedham, full of excitement - only to be pretty disappointed. It was messy, disorganized, and didn't have a lot of great stuff - mostly junk. I was hoping there would be better garden/patio furniture but the selection was very limited. The food section was ok - I was able to find some good vegan stuff - almond milk, Indian mixes, Thai mixes, can soup, dry beans, rice noodles, etc. I was rushed because they were closing for the evening so maybe if I had more time I would have found more. Overall I didn't get much. They rushed us out but then the line to checkout took forever as there was only one cashier open. I did like the shark boogie boards though! However the staff I noticed was wicked friendly - esp as I was walking to my car. read more

After breaking up a gossip circle of employees talking about whos cell phone did what, here are some of the quotes the cashier was throwing across the floor during my check out. "This is my last customer, you have to get the next one" GROOOAN "I have to work another shift tomorrow too" "You get off at 7? You're so lucky I want to go home too" I would think this was one employee's poor pride of work, but you can tell these girls all play into it together. These people hate their job, the management must be AWFUL. They really make you feel uncomfortable and unwelcome when they are talking about you, around you. I guess their perfect job would be to man the counters without any customers coming up to bother their chit chatting amongst each other. read more

This is one of my favorite OSJL in the area. I like the fact the aisles are wide and not crunchy. The store is very organized and well kept. You can get just about anything there from dog items to lawn furniture. They have great prices and offer internet coupons. The only flaw about ALL OSJL stores is if you buy food items PLEASE check the expiration date. I have brought a few items to customer service that have expired. There is lots of parking and it is close to Stop & Shop, and other stores. read more

Is this REALLY an Ocean State Job Lot? Well, really it is. But it's DEFINITELY the biggest one out there. This store used to be Toys R Us, and when it was, the store was taken much better care of..... yet this is a discount store, not Nordstrom, so don't expect it to be tip-top clean. The store in general has much more than any of the other Ocean State Job Lot stores, and specifically has TONS more rugs. They always have a large seasonal section as well as kitchen products. The hardware section in the back is also large and everything is priced well (that's what you SHOULD expect from Ocean State Job Lot). The checkout area I have never had an issue with, other than the fact that some employees do not turn on their registers lights here, which is SO annoying yet, not to big of a deal. Also, checkout NEVER takes too long and the employees at checkout and around the store are all very helpful and friendly. Overall, this is definitely the largest and one of the best OSJL stores I've been to. Definitely make a stop when shopping in Dedham..... it's technically separated from the mall, so it's not in the mall, yet to get to this store you must cut through the mall or cut through the U-Turn area of Providence Highway in Dedham. For people going Providence Hwy North to Boston, turn right at the Dedham Mall intersection (where Uno's is), or continue (like 5 feet) to the U Turn Extension, which is your last chance to access this store (or else you have to go all the up and u turn all the way back down (which is really a pain). From Providence Highway South towards Westwood & I-95, turn left at Uno's or U Turn there and then keep right for U Turn Extension. Very confusing, but very annoying if you forget where to turn to get here (take caution). 5 stars. Not questionable. read more

I love this place! A little of this, a little of that, and everythng is cheap! It can be hit or miss, but for the most part you can really pick up some bargains. Paper goods, tablecloths, planters and pots, gadgets, toys, kitchen items and a food section that has some strange/wonderful/unusual items. The person who said the prices were high...is incorrect. For the useful, quality (and yes, name-brand) items (thisis not Bldg #19-ish) they have, the prices are cheap. In this economy, we need stores like this. I know I'm not walking into a Bed Bath and Beyond when I go to Ocean State, and in the past couple of years I've run in here for a few things without too much trouble. BUT recently...the store is FILTHY! You can't get from one aisle to another because the stockers have carts filled with boxes and junk. This couldn't be done at night? Then you get to the registers where, if you are lucky, your wait will be under fifteen minutes. HIRE MORE CASHIERS!!! And did I mentioned the store is filthy? I have given this store the benefit of the doubt too many times. I'm now disappointed in myself because I should have better. You get what you pay for. The chewing gum is hard, the coffee is stale, the clothes smell, and the overall quality is poor. And to top it off I spent $70 on a pool cover only to find out it was ripped. It was clearly a manufacturers issue but the manager wouldn't return it unless I fded it up and put it back in the package in its original condition. We'll, it's a 24' pool. Let me spell it out: the cover was twenty seven feet wide. Really? Where am I supposed to fold this up like new so you can put it back on the shelf?? In the parking lot. Never again. Where can you get pool supplies, rugs, toys and cleaning supplies as well as food items?? This is the place. Rhode Island based Ocean State Job Lot opened in the old Toys R Us spot in Dedham Mall with a large scale version of their super discount store loaded to the ceiling with an array of low priced items. Some of these items I am not sure where they arrive from spotting M&Ms from Xmas and dusty boxes of chocolate covered cherries. Its the only place I have seen where you can grab some yard tools, toiletries, housewares, beach toys and cookies and kitchen spices all at one time. It goes beyond Wal Mart to offer items at even cheaper prices. The only problem with this place, it is a disorganized mess of stuff just thrown everywhere. They try and keep it somewhat organized, but I think it is just no use. Stuff is everywhere, falling off shelves, on the floor, in wrong departments. However I think for a place like this, it is okay to sift through all the "stuff" to find the bargains this place contains. The one thing I think this place is good for is things for the yard at really low prices. You can get literally anything for your yard at almost a third off the prices of even Wal Mart or Target. This is definitely a place to pay a visit. read more

Ocean State Job Lot has good stuff at good prices but the Dedham store is quite a mess. Shelves are messy or empty and frequently items are out of stock that are advertised with coupons. The staff are not very helpful and many stand around and gab while one register is open and a long line forms. I have been to other Ocean State Job Lots and they are organised and clean. Staff even greet you at the door! Too bad Dedham is not like that. read more

This store does not accept EBT card payments even though they advertise that they do. Every time I tried to use my card, it kept saying "error". The excuse was that "the system has been down all afternoon, "the system is old and nedds updating", etc. Well, the system has been down since this summer! There is no excuse! If you are going to accept Apple Pay (I associate this with well-heeled folks), them fix your software for EBT cards. I have been to many job lot stores, including non-0cean State stores and this is one in Dedham is probably the most spacious of all of them. In contrast to many other stores, the merchandise here is well organized and they always provide a great selection. The parking lot is very very spacious and deals on food and clothing are not to be believed. My only gripe, is that they always had a variety of chocolates from all over the world at insane prices. The last two times I have gone there,,I could not find a single bar of PURE milk or dark chocolate. Granted they had chocolate covered cookies. But that's not the same. So I settled for 2 for 1 Toblerone dark chocolate with honey and almond nougat. How can you beat .90 cents for a 100 gram of Swiss chocolate? Only 4 stars because I miss my chocolate. read more

This rating is a combination...the store is fine and usually when i can find an employee on the floor they are very helpful. Yesterday was an exception; the cashier (?lead cashier?) Ashley was completely unhelpful to the point of being rude when I asked her where an item was. Very incomplete directions...i didn't need to be taken by the hand but something more than "in seasonal" (which was obvious) would have been helpful, and nothing further than I asked "where in seasonal." I had waited in line to ask her while she was chatting with a customer who appeared to be a friend; she repeatedly (during my transaction with her as well) announced..."No waiting on register 5" which seemed clearly to be because she didn't want any customers. And as i walked by register 5 on my way out I happened to see a puzzled customer saying "this is register 5" but no one was there... And now i see on their website that the item i was looking for is actually in stock...surely there are people looking for work who would be more motivated to help the customer. read more

My sig other and I pop in here once in a while to check out the steals and deals. We used to go to the OSJL in Buzzard's Bay when we lived down at the Cape, this one in Dedham is soooo much cleaner and is WAY bigger! We met the manager the first time in here...very nice guy. We both thought he was super friendly and professional. He made it a point to walk thought the store and he "chatted" up the customers. Nice touch! If you think the staff are rude here, take a venture down to the Cape and check out that Buzzard's Bay...you'll come back here and hug the staff! The prices here are a tad higher for the same products than the OSJL on the Cape, which is surprising...I thought everything was more expensive down at the Cape ;) But I would gladly pay the extra few cents per item in exchange for the store's cleanliness and more organized layout. As for the store...besides being very clean and organized (everything is relative in life), there is a great selection of kitchen goods and pet supplies. We make it a habit to peruse the kitchen goods, perishables and non-perishables, because there is always a deal to be found. One just needs to take the extra minute to look, this is not meant for the quick stop and grab the one item you need. Every time we are in the area, we make a point to stop in. Ocean State is one of my favorite stores. That will not change. BUT, the management at the store in Dedham needs to be trained on how to handle customers and how to make the customer feel valued. The other night we were there with a carriage full of goods...upon waiting in line , for a long time because only one line was open (yet 5 other employee were congregated around the service desk), we were told the line was cash only....but not told where to go or who else was open. Numerous times we have shopped there and the lines are long and no one makes an effort to expedite the process....many employees stand around, and the "manager" on at the time is doing nothing. The store is a mess, and the aisles are unorganized and narrow. I will still shop Ocean State, but perhaps in Waltham or another location. Until some brain power and initiative is brought to the Dedham store, I suggest you stay away.... read more

Love this place, good stuff for cheep!!! I'm a teacher, and I get all my Supplise here.. It's a blessing that this kind of place exists really......Though, I was bummed today to see some serious unprofessionalism :/ the majority of staff I encountered were extremely rude. As I was getting rung up, the girl with the pierced throat at check out was gossiping loudly (to her coworkers across the store) about the customer who just left..saying how ugly she was... It's just unfortunate that the female staff I encountered don't know how to behave in front of a guest. The managers should better train and monitor their staff. This place has potential, but rude staff can really make a business suffer. Set higher standards!!!!! I must say though, one nice gentlemen saw my hands full and offered me a cart. Now that was good service! You need more staff like him :) read more
